What is good cholesterol?
Cholesterol is an essential component of the Human body.
What Is Cholesterol Exactly?
It is first and foremost, a type of fat which is known as a sterol. It serves many bodily functions and is deemed vitally important to the human body, well at least good cholesterol has always been thought to, but the truth is that the human body needs both types of cholesterol which are HDL and LDL. Our diet enables our body to convert the saturated and unsaturated fats we consume into cholesterol depending on what we eat and a few other factors that can dictate what kind of cholesterol is created.
What Does Cholesterol Do?
Cholesterol serves several functions like regulation and production of growth and development hormones, assimilating and processing Vitamin D, and may also play a role in how testosterone and estrogen function in the body.
Cholesterol aslo assists in the production of stomach bile. It is needed for optimal neural activity as well as for the creation and maintenance of body tissue. Suffice it to say, cholesterol is important.
The problem is when people talk about this subject, they are almost invariable meaning the bad type of cholesterol, but there are two types, low-density lipoprotein, and high-density high-density lipoprotein.
One is good and one is considered to be bad, though this is a bit of a misnomer, because it's the effect of the lipoprotein on the cholesterol that matters, all things being equal.
What Are Lipoproteins?
These are a type of package that carries cholesterol around the body. Inside both HDL and LDL the cholesterol is exactly the same.
Lipoproteins serve vital functions inside the body that allow several important activities to take place. Without these lipoproteins, the body would be unable to carry and maintain tissue health, and also our skin and hair would lose their moisture making it flaky and eventually causing it to fall out.
What Does HDL & LDL Mean?
These lipoproteins are broadly divided into two specific categories. They are the lighter lipoproteins or low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and heavier or high-density lipoproteins (HDL). There are actually more types than this, but these two are the main ones.
What Is HDL?
HDL is widely regarded as a good part of the cholesterol spectrum. It is good because of its helpful properties and how it acts upon the body. As we all know, bad cholesterol causes our blood vessels and arteries to clog up because it collects in the inner linings of arterial walls and can lead to the restricted flow of blood.
This is where HDL comes to the fore. One of its functions is to mainly carry this most harmful substance in our blood back to the liver where it is processed and expelled out. Much like a bouncer at a nightclub, HDL finds the misbehaving party (LDL) and removes them from the premises.
What Is LDL ?
LDL's cause the build-up of plaque, fat, and unwanted sticky slime in the walls of the arteries that carry the oxygen-rich blood from our heart to all vital areas of the body? This is a very undesirable occurrence because, over time, the heart needs to start pumping harder and faster to counter the restricted blood flow.
This leaves the heart overworked and causes various heart problems like strokes and the deadly and unfortunately all too frequent heart attack. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol may be divided into two types, the large particles and the small.
The small is considered more dangerous because there's a correlation between people with small LDL having a higher overall bad cholesterol.

Why HDL Cholesterol Is... Great.
Even though LDL's can be potentially harmful to one's helath, the amazing human body seems to have found a way to counter this problem. Where there is bad cholesterol, there is a way to negate it.
Enriching the body with foods that promote HDL's is a sure-fire way to keep the harmful cholesterol in check. The benefit of a diet of foods that increase HDL cholesterol is that these foods are usually exceptionally healthy and can add a whole lot of other benefits.
People with high LDL cholesterol often find themselves in a predicament possibly having gotten used to a diet of bad foods such as trans fats and low fiber foods.
They have to take a variety of supplements and medicines in order to try and keep the bad cholesterol in check.
But, there are several natural ways to do that. This goes to show that taking action to keep HDH high and LDL low is the smart thing to do. What Are Normal HDL Levels?
The ideal levels of HDL have to be maintained at around sixty milligrams per decilitre. The value can be above this amount but any value below it will cause an unpleasant and unhealthy build-up of cholesterol. This can be extremely life-threatening.
When the value of HDL dropped below 40, a person is at a high risk of developing very high cholesterol. The body becomes inefficient at cleaning itself of the invested plaque-causing rapid build-up.
The natural ways are mainly through a good diet and healthy regular exercise. Burning of excess fat, consuming a balanced and healthy diet is foremost. Certain HDL rich foods are considered a great alternative to give your body a boost.
How To Boost HDL Levels?

Effective Ways to Discipline Children
People who lack discipline can not think in terms of self-critique or proper self-responsibility.
This inability to self-regulate affects them and everybody else.
It starts at childhood and the parents at a huge part of the reason they grow into ill-disciplined adults who are entitled, can’t think critically, and can’t respect opposing views.
Examples?
TV shows such “Super Nanny” and “Nanny 911 show effective ways to discipline children.
The best examples of lack of discipline of children can be seen on these TV shows. These poor parents lack in knowledge and direction of how to discipline children or don’t believe in discipline at all.
Children are not born knowing right from wrong and discipline is the best trainer for children.
At what age should discipline of children start?
A child who can get around on his own needs discipline for his own safety. For example, when a crawling baby insists on crawling up the stairs, simply pick him up and put him in the play pen with a verbal warning of simply “No.”
That is the right amount of discipline for a child that young. He will eventually understand that if he tries to crawl up the stairs he will get to play in the playpen.
Discipline for young children
As the child grows older she will need other forms of discipline. Warning a child of the consequences of her actions and then letting her experience the consequences (if the consequences are not dangerous to her) is an effective discipline tactic.
For instance, if she refuses to put away her toys before going to bed and you have warned her that she will not be allowed to play with them, stick to your guns and take her toys from her for one full day. When she gets her toys back remind her again of the consequences if she does not put them away.
If she does it again determine if she truly forgot or if she is being defiant. She will still need to go without her toys another day if she simply forgot. Consistency is crucial in helping her to remember the rules. However, if she is defiant add another day without her toys. Keep adding days until she becomes compliant.
What ever you do, stick to the consequences of her disobedience. You will establish the fact that you mean what you say and you are to be obeyed. This will come in handy when she’s a teenager. You chose the role of parenthood and being a parent is not for wimps.
Ways to discipline children in their teens
First of all, tweens or teens need to know that the only rights they have are the right to be loved, educated, housed, clothed and fed and that everything else they have is a privilege. He does not have a right to his own TV, computer, cell phone, video games or car. Therefore, if he breaks a rule he can expect to lose a privilege.
Take his favorite privilege away long enough for it to hurt and be remembered.
You as parents have the right to search his room if you suspect drugs, cigarettes, alcohol or inappropriate books and magazines. If you have brought him up to know that you love him enough to discipline him and if you tell him the consequences for misbehavior then he can count on those consequences coming to pass.
On the other side of discipline for children in their teens is they know that you truly love them and that they can talk to you and you will listen.
In Conclusion
Kids need discipline, they need guidance and they need trust. There is no perfect balance, but the fact that you are reading this shows that you care enough to make discipline an important part of their upbringing.

Omega 3 - olive Oil
I use olive oil all the time to make sure I get enough of those omega 3 good fats.
Olive oil (in my opinion), is the tastiest of all the oils and is unbelievably versatile, so the next time you are looking to boost your good fat intake of healthy fats, try extra virgin olive oil.
I never shy away from good fat like olive oil which is one of the reasons I eat fat

Why I Eat Fat
OK, if you've read anything of mine then you'll know that I'm pro-fat. I think it's a simple substance that's been much maligned, yet for poor reasoning.
Here are three reasons I like to eat good fat in my diet:
1. It makes healthy food more palatable - Chowing down a salad is a lot easier with tasty flaxseed oil and balsamic vinegar dressing.
2. It is hard to eat a lot of it - Contrary to what people say, it's quite hard to overindulge in fat by itself. A bag of potato chips has a lot of fat, but it has even more carbs.
3. It can help burn fat - Omega 3's can help raise your metabolic rate.

The difference between fats
There are several types of fats. Monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, trans, saturated - But what are which and which are good.
First I'd like to say that trans are bad and should be avoided like the plague, but luckily they are almost a thing of the past like olestra and saccharin. Saturated fats aren't as bad as they have been made out to be.
Saturated fats are only bad if consumed in heavy excess in the absence of good fats. You can find saturated fats in meat fat and dairy-based fats as well as palm and coconut oils.
Monounsaturated fats are good fats as they help reduce cholesterol and improve cardiovascular function. They are available in olive oil, nuts fish and flaxseeds.
Polyunsaturated fats are also good although are not as good as monounsaturated fats. They can be found in soy and soy oil, margarines and many other foods.
Trans fats are the worst and are very dangerous for your health.
Fats are good and healthy - You need them to live, so make sure you know what you’re putting in your body.

Apparently they are now banning trans fats across the globe. This is a positive move in a way because the whole case of good fat and bad fat has become blurred. At last a harmful (man made) product is going to be taken off the market. Generally I wouldn’t approve of government intervention, but in this case Joe Public don’t understand the inherent dangers of such a bad fat.

Fat Is OK
Every chef worth his salt knows and espouses the virtue of fat. Simply put - "fat is flavor" is so often the catch cry of the culinary community.
Eat more fat then?
If only the health fraternity caught on!
But, alas they don't and poor old fat is left in the cold again.
Ok - So I may be rambling a bit, but my point is that something that adds flavor can actually help you lose weight.
How you ask?
Satiety...
Tasty food appeases the appetite and takes away the need for bouts of gluttony, so it stands to reason then that smaller, yet tasty meals that have liberal amounts of the very best fat will not lead to critical overeating - The real cause of obesity charged weight gain.
It's just a thought.
A highly common sense derived one at that.
Satisfaction is being satisfied, so if the taste is good enough then you may possibly avoid binges.
There are a lot of different fats, so eating the right ones is also important

I'm a little bit over the whole anti-fat sentiment that the 80's has left as a bad information hangover. One of the most important things in the human diet is fat, in fact without adequate fat you can become very unhealthy indeed, not that the media or the movies would let you know this.
Billions of dollars a year are poured into creating low-fat products and advertisements for these "so-called" benevolent entities.
Unfortunately, this has created an anti-fat hysteria that has polarized the sensible from the uninformed and hurt general health immensely.

Intellectual Barriers
Building intelligence is a big interest of mine, so much so that I've become a little bit obsessed with critical thinking, IQ puzzles, and logic problems.
All that aside, I think something worth mentioning is the barriers that can hold you back from reaching your cerebral peaks.
Here are a couple of intellectual barriers to watch out for:
Bad Diet
Before I get metaphorical, I wanted to speak about a physical barrier. You see poor dietary practices can leave your brain without the nutrients it needs to perform at maximum levels. Sugars, salt, and saturated fats can adversely affect mental performance and lead to lower IQ in those who regularly consume such mental poisons.
Generalization
This kind of assumption can lead to all sorts of terrible mistakes. To generalize about the inanimate is one thing but to cast dispersion on human traits based on emotionally charged poor “logic” is a crime against intelligence.
Lack Of Critical Thinking
Biases sway opinions but what do you do when they’re your own biases?
This is why critical thinking is so important in reigning in negative, bias thinking.
Negativity
This, in essence, is actually an assumption. Negativity is the assumption that the worst is imminent from a situation. To assume without good reason is to set the mind to administer information incorrectly.
Measure information on validity, not emotional bias.
These three are some of the worst offenders, so be mindful of them in the future.

Why Generosity Is Important
Without the altruistic, giving nature of some members of society, the world would be a very different place indeed. I would go as far as to say that the whole of civilized society runs on a kind of generosity that without which, the world simply wouldn't function.
In order for a civilization to work, the members must adhere to certain principles of necessity that help to lubricate and facilitate the tolerance, empathy, giving and maintaining of a peaceful society.
Everyone at some stage in their lives has needed help and been given it generously by someone who needed not to do so, but they did anyway. Hopefully at some stage you've also repaid the favor and helped someone else.
Unfortunately there are some who do not subscribe to the principle that generosity is necessary for a functional society, or at least they just don't care. These people often take but never give. They almost disturb the balance.
But fortunately there are these other kind individuals who give far more than ever asked of them and they continue to do so on a regular basis. These truly decent members of society often ask for nothing in return even though they deserve reward and recognition.
If you ask me why generosity is important?, I would probably say because without it we are less human and more robotic.
The more human traits we can keep in the process of an evolving society, the better.
Don’t underestimate the effect of generosity on your happiness and the flow on effects this has for your health.

A lot can rest on the fate of which company you are with and what their policies are, not to mention the personalities of those in charge, but there are a few things you can do to expedite the process.

Yeah, you know - The old fashioned work hard and get noticed. I the right setting this can really help and realistically it should be the most important factor, but we all know that ain't the case.
Mental Courage
Be brave. Sometimes you have to be a better version of yourself which means sucking up those critical nerves and soldiering on.
It's All Who You Know
Nepotism - Have you seen it in action? Well, maybe if you're "in the know", then you should put your contacts to work for you. Every advantage counts.
Brand Yourself
Turn up to all the company meetings and make yourself known - Make it impossible to resist your charm.
Once your name is on everyone's lips - Make it stay there 'til it counts.

Honesty Is The Best Policy
With the overwhelming presence of dishonety in the political arena and the media, I find honesty extremely refreshing. I'd go as far as to say that real honesty is actually a pretty rare commodity and that If I find someone speaking their mind in a respectful manner I usually develop a fondness for them regardless of their point of view.
Honesty Is A Dying Form
Oh, come on!
You know it is - Look around you - Every other website is full of information designed to gain your trust and sell you hokey wares. Every TV commercial treats you like a complete idiot and practically slaps you across the face with the most inconceivable garbage imaginable.
Don't get me started on politicians, but don't blame them for their inability to give a yes or no answer - We need to place that blame squarely upon our own shoulders.
When we get given honesty and we don't like what we hear - We shoot the messenger.
If you can go about your business and prove to be genuinely honest, then you have a real chance to build a huge amount of respect, because you'll be part of a pretty rare breed.
So go ahead and tell it like it is, don't worry about the immaturity of those who "Can't Handle The Truth", chances are those flakes can handle much of anything if they choose to live with their heads firmly planted in the sand.
Let honesty be the best policy for you
