It made a little highlights reel for Gurathin. Omigod.
Fuck me I hope it scored it with yakkety sax.
Some weeping teen with their head on its shoulder as the closing shot, spiral-in-cut to black.

Murderbot thoughts after Ep 6
In Escape Velocity Protocol (Ep 4), Pin-Lee and Arada (and Ratthi?) kill to protect Mensah and Murderbot. And they do it in a particularly gruesome way, by squishing the hostile with the hopper.
They are greeted as rescuing heroes. Nobody throws up or asks why they did that.
In Ep 6, Murderbot kills to protect the PresAux crew. It's also a gruesome killing, but to be fair, a headshot was the only option.
The crew reacts with trauma and shock, and a lot of questioning of Murderbot's actions. "That was a person!"
So the hostile SecUnit wasn't a person?
Another little sign that PrexAux team might say that they view constructs differently than the Corporation Rim does, but they still have some unconscious bias to unlearn.

no fr the second they pulled out those star wars looking comm units i was like WHERE IS THE FEED??? rn feels like gurathin and secunit are the only ones with access to the feed which is odd to me but maybe theyll all get feed devices after this nightmare survey
I'm not upset about the show not using the feed, per se, because it would be hard to be clear and consistent with something like that. But how in the hell are they going to do exit strategy without it

I got to the part in Artificial Condition where ART is confused about SecUnit not liking its function. (Which SecUnit points out is because ART has a good function that isn’t murdering people.)
Obviously SecUnit calling itself “Murderbot” is tongue-in-cheek, but before that passage I didn’t realize how self-derisive the name actually is. There are aspects of its intended function that SecUnit actually enjoys, like protecting humans. But it refers to itself by the function it is most disgusted by.
In All Systems Red, Gurathin says “It calls itself ‘Murderbot,’” to try to convince the others that SecUnit can’t be trusted. When, in fact, it calls itself “Murderbot” because it has self-esteem issues.

I particularly adore the relationship between Gurathin and Murderbot in light of how similar they are. Throughout the season, Gurathin is clearly on the same "I must protect everyone" train, struggling to fit in; he is painfully awkward and has been through some trauma; I feel like Gurathin is in the aftermath of "was adopted by these nice and frustratingly naive people after unspeakable horrors" arc that Murderbot is starting

this scene had me lmao because i can’t remember if it’s canon to the books or if it is just fancontent that dictates secunit’s arm weapons do not even have enough power to do something like this.. so in my head mb was like ‘oh god oh fuck’ and turned its arm weapons up like 500% power and fried them
In its defense,, it did tell her to drop the weapon and she grabbed Gurathin to use as a human shield instead.

I was unsure about gurathins characterisation at first, mostly because I was picturing a whole different guy based on the books, but the gurathin/mb parallels go hard. One thing i noticed is that they're emphasising gurathins status as an augmented human more in the show. Something about the "this is no more a machine than gurathin is" feels more weighty with the added hints to his corporation rim backstory. This was also mostly brought on by lebebe calling him a "walking dataport" while threatening his life, dehumanising him in the same way as she did with "you brought it, you own it" murderbot. There's something tasty here i can tell

Gurathin, being expertly chokeslammed in a way precisely calibrated for maximum intimidation with no damage: I hope this doesn't awaken anything in me.
Ratthi, already hooking up with the first traumatised ex-Corporate Death Squad freedom fighter he can find: Sorry, did you say something?

“it’s not really addressed in the book” feels laughable to me but maybe im just thinking of the book series as a whole and it’s not in asr as much.. rest of this statement EATS though i am so so happy that the crew of the TV series are continuing to use it/its pronouns for murderbot, keep the queer and polyamorous relationships (though the throuple in the series is.. an odd choice and plays into negative polyamory stereotypes imo), and deliberately mentioning the importance that mb has to neurodivergent people

Good to know that the showrunners are being very deliberate in keeping Murderbot aroace, since I've been some people being worried they would ignore that part of the books.
