I love that I share my house with one of the most efficient apex predators millions of years of evolution could produce. I love that two of nature’s most prolific machines met and were like “hmmm. We should lay around and do nothing together”. Now we’re both fat and happy and full of meat. The hedonism of it all

Be not afraid!
So a week ago, I sprained my ankle and couldn't walk for 3 days. I'm used to hiking at least an hour a day with my huskies so not being able to walk at all was driving me crazy. And in my jittery sedimentary state, I kept getting visions of this blursed being: a biblically accurate axolotl. There was nothing I could do but draw it. I'm all better now and able to walk again, now back to making less cursed art (maybe)

i think it's a good time to remember that he's a real person. behind the music, behind the mask and the lore and everything. just trying to live his life like every fucking body else. like REALLY think about it. what does your day to day life look like, and how distraught would you be if that suddenly involved HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of people? whether he chose this or not - i don't care. don't come at me with the whole "oh, but fame comes with a price". stfu. not another word. i could not care less.
we should feel LUCKY to hear the songs he writes with ii. We should feel privileged to witness what he's clearly put his heart and soul into. instead, there are those that act as if they are entitled to their music. do you even understand how easy it would be for them to say "this is it. no more after this"? idk.
this song makes me feel so mad because why couldn't we, as a fanbase, just respect the one wish he had - to focus on the music and not him. i think we're all guilty in some way or another. this album is just... if these two songs are anything like the rest, we are in for one hell of an awakening. and i know it's not everyone, but i do think it's good that everyone hears this.

No lyric has hit me in my heart quite like Vessel singing,
"And if you don't think I mean it, then I understand. But I'm still glad you came, so let me see those hands."
Truly no lyrics has audibly taken my breath away like this one. The amazement, pride, bitter-sweetness, and admiration I felt hearing this line filled with Vessel's honest words have affected me to my core. The gratitude and tenderness he is showing to his fans while also setting a firm boundary and sharing his disappointment about "those fans" is astonishing.
Caramel is a song of nauances; of fondness, thankfulness, hope, uncertainty, disappointment and determination. We can see the divide. Let us not push Sleep Token away from the art they love to create and share.
Respect this band as much as they show respect to us.

One thing I love about Sleep Token is that so many argue that it isn’t “real metal” and isn’t heavy enough, and a lot of people thought that they would go heavier and more grotesque to try and fit that definition with this new album.
But they haven’t done that at all. In fact, the black, red, and white has become green, cream, and pink. We’re getting flowers and a flamingo. The end of Caramel basically says “you want heavier? No.” The aesthetic to me is very smart and still very ominous.
Personally, I think a lot of what they do is metal but it’s also a masterful blend of so many styles that sounds completely authentic to them, and they didn’t change that. And I love that very much.

Idk if I've really discovered anything with this, but I noticed something about the backgrounds and such with the new song and album.
They seem to be images rendered in colorblind setting. Specifically tritanopia, a blue-yellow colorblindness that is one of the rarest forms of colorblindness overall, caused by a complete absence of s-cones in the retinas (and bc of that it is classified as a dichromacy, where individuals have only two types of functioning color receptors instead of the usual three). In short, individuals with this condition have difficulty seeing blue and yellow hues.

Ya wanna know how I learned that there's different forms of colorblindness?
Halo.
I cannot for the fucking LIFE OF ME find the exact source for this, I keep bloody forgetting it, but I read somewhere that the Sangheli from Halo naturally have tritanopia, which is ironic because their blood is a very intense indigo/purple/blue. As well as many of their ships are various shades of dark purple inside and out. So I was like "huh, I've never heard of this, lemme look it up", and then I learned that there's seven different types of colorblindness. I know Ves is a Halo fan but there is a hilarious amount of references to it in the discography if you know what to look for, and I do because I love the franchise myself.
So uh, yeah, if I've connected any dots with this, who's eyes are we looking through? Is Sleep or Vessel tritanopic? Is this just how Arcadia looks?

i still can't get over the fact how the new album is even in arcadia.
like. take me back to eden, and now even in arcadia.
take me back to eden, which is a paradise that was inhabited in and later lost due to the sin of eating the forbidden fruit.
even in arcadia, which is an idyllic paradise of a real region in greece. a concept that was romanticized and explored during the renaissance that is said to be unobtainable and lost.
and the phrase "even in" -- referring to the phrase "et in arcadia ego," roughly meaning "even in arcadia, there i am." a phrase used as a title to painter nicolas poussin's painting (left) depicting three shepherds and a woman. yet, this work was inspired by a work of the same name done by artist guercino (right), done about a decade before. and his work has themes of memento mori, a reminder that death is always There, with the image of a skull reinforcing the idea of the title.
all just to say...
vessel wants to be taken back to eden -- back to a way when things were idyllic and perfect. and yet, if he obtains this, if he somehow gets to arcadia, he's met with the harsh reality that his paradise is unobtainable and lost. "i" -- whether that be sleep, death, or some other figure -- they are still there in what appears to be paradise, even if vessel wants to escape from them...
