HELLO! for the hc ask game maybe 🎶📓 👽 for beverly? :]
hobbies:
she’s a crafty gal. she has a little craft cart that has like skeins of yarn, wire, paints, beads, etc etc. she likes having something to keep her hands busy while she works on other things, but she also really enjoys making gifts for her friends! all the losers have like. a kind of wonky mug or bowl that bev made and painted herself. even if it doesn’t always come out perfectly, they love them because it’ll always remind them of bev :)
quirk:
she never unties her laces. her shoes get so stretched out from her trying to tug them on, but typically, if she can’t easily slip a shoe on or off, she doesn’t wear them. she likes the aesthetic of laces and will even lace her shoes up with pretty ties sometimes, but she just. cant be bothered to actually unlace them every time.

💝👽 for Mike :)
OMG I GET TO TALK ABOUT MIKE <3
💝 A headcanon about their love language
i do not know what its called but he's the one where its like gifts but those gifts are experiences and knowledge. he is always showing the losers cool places around derry, once he can drive he's driving them out to neighboring towns to show them random markets and stores and restaurants that he likes. he also loves telling the losers random facts. they're just sitting there and he's reading a history book or something and he's like did you guys know [insert random obscure history fact they definitely did not know]. his love language imo is sharing the things he loves with his loved ones (which is why i think he loves being a game master so much !!!! i am number one ttrpg fan mike believer) :]
👽 A headcanon about a weird quirk of theirs
as a kid he likes to watch TV upside down. like he's just laying in front of the TV watching he-man upside down for some reason. he still understands whats happening perfectly somehow. also he eats candy by color in reverse rainbow order.

[Stan] "...And if you find someone worth holding on to... never, ever, let them go. Follow your own path.
"Think of this letter as a promise."
[Eddie] "A promise I'm asking you to make."
[Mike] "To me."
[Ben] "To each other."
[Bev] "An oath."
[Stanley] "See, the thing about being a Loser is... you don't have anything to lose. So..."
[Young Richie] "Be true."
[Young Eddie] "Be brave."
[Young Mike] "Stand."
[Young Bev] "Believe."
[Young Bill] "And don't ever forget..."
[Young Stan] "We're Losers... and we always will be."

mikey headcanons? <3
• i always picture him wearing glasses for personal I Love Him reasons
• mike’s probably the most objectively a little handsome out of all the losers club. he really doesn’t know it though
• ofc he plays trombone in book canon and in a world where they all get to go to high school together he’d play in the marching band with richie
• he’s such a dog person imo and i think him having a couple of big old hounds (mr chips 2 and 3 electric boogaloos) during those lonely 27 years in derry is not only correct but deserved
• prolificcc bookworm (ik. librarian. but fuck all those local history papers i’m talking like…he’s staying in the classroom at lunch age 13 to read for funsies) and his fave genres are mystery and high fantasy
• he’s got a huge loud goofy laugh. truly music to the bill denbroughs of the world’s ears

welcome to the first week of bit club! super excited for us to share this reading experience— it has always been one of my favorite king books.
in week one we’re covering part one: the shadow before, which consists of the first three chapters: after the flood (1957), after the festival (1984), and six phone calls (1985).

the epigraph for this novel is three quotes, which i’ve included here: the first and third are from songs and the second is from a poem (this second quote was also in the epigraph for ’salem’s lot!). i always love king’s use of quotes/lyrics to set the tone for what you’re about to read. as someone who is rereading the book for maybe the fifth or sixth time, i personally like the lines from george seferis as a prelude to the story, but what do you guys think? also note that there is another lyric on the page for part one.

i’ll make a discussion post on friday about the things i found notable and interesting about these chapters and we can get into it then, but for now all i’ll say is good luck and hope you enjoy the book as much as i do!

For a series that has such a foundational basis in the theme of friendship, it's completely infuriating that chapter two makes such an enormous distinction between Richie's romantic love for Eddie and the rest of the losers' platonic love for Eddie -- namely in the quarry scene at the end of the movie. And like... of course Richie would be devastated that Eddie was killed. I don't even mind him being portrayed as the saddest one out of everybody, but the problem is that the rest of the losers don't seem sad at all. They all comfort Richie, but that's all it is: trying to make Richie feel better, because he's the one that's upset. Once Richie stops crying, everybody goes back to smiling, swimming around, and basically having a great time... what, an hour after Eddie died? Movie-Eddie deserved so much more than that. His friends loved him enormously, and we should have seen them mourn for him.
