something i just cant get out of my head is a lottienat reluctant coparenting situation.

like maybe nat has a younger sibling (real young, like pre-grade school age) and then her parents die and suddenly the state wont let nat have custody unless she is financially stable. the solution? lottie matthews!

lottie matthews, who is so selfless and who absolutely lacks a sense of self preservation, and so she offers to help nat out knowing full well that she has feelings for nat that arent reciprocated.

yk what the logistics to this au arent worked out in the slightest but i cant bring myself to care.

basically what happens next is- lottie and nat get married and whatnot to prove to a social worker that nat is financially stable and able to take care of her younger sibling. they have to keep up the married facade yk as to not get sent to jail for fraud. so they move in together, tell their friends theyre together (who, for the most part, arent surprised and make a lot of comments like “couldve seen this one coming” just teasing the shit outta them), and take care of the kid together.

now obviously this kid doesnt really know whats going on, doesnt remember nats parents. all they know is that they have lottie and nat who are, really, the kids parents!

HCS:

• when the kid calls nat “dad” for the first time, nat freaks tf out bc 1) shes not even their parent 2) shes not a man and 3) shes scared of becoming like her own dad

• this freakout is made worse when the kid calls lottie “mom” and nat realizes what the fuck this kid is thinking

• lottie love love loves pissing nat off, and WILL act all lovey dovey w/ nat as a “joke”

• nat always pretends to be disgusted w/ her but secretly really, really likes it

• lottie hides it but everytime nat does this little act, her heart is CRUSHED

• when the kid eventually starts like preschool or something and they have to go in for parent-teacher conferences, both of them get really flustered as being referred to as the kids’ parents, and quickly clear up the fact that the kid is nat’s little sibling

• their hearts both explode though

• the kids’ favorite aunts are shauna and van. van for the silly and shauna i cannot explain. maybe its the fact that shauna always wrangles in jackie and they just dont like jackie. who knows.

• lottie and nat have to sleep together at night to keep up appearances and all— lottie is like a heater and nat gets inexplicably cold during the night + seeks out heat sources… when nat woke up for the first time entangled in lottie, she got so embarrassed and refused to look at her the whole day.

until, of course, night came and they had to share a bed again. lottie was amused, but didnt want to say anything out of fear of scaring nat away. eventually this just continued until it became the norm

• van is the only one who knows about the whole thing being a farce bc theyre the person both of lottienat went to in order to vent about the situation. van finds it all incredibly amusing. knows they both have feelings for each other but will NEVER say anything because theyre a little shit.

• it ends up being like that one game of gay chicken, where they basically raise this kid for years and then eventually one of them just goes “i love you” and then they makeout and live happily ever after

• can definitely see them teaching their kid how to play soccer— lottie becomes a regular soccer mom w/ a soccer van and all, and nat hits that dad pose w/ her hands on her hips at every game. yells w/ her thick italian-american accent even though these kids are like. half her age.

• the matthews-scatorccio household becomes a safe haven for all of their kids’ little troubled friends— always food, comfort, and a warm place to sleep if needed.

• they start a traditon very early on of movie nights every saturday, and extravagent breakfasts prepped by lottie the next morning, bc breakfast is the only thing she can really cook

• speaking of cooking, chef!nat who cooks dinner every night and meal preps for the week even when shes tired from cooking all day already. because she knows lottie cant do it.

idk will probably add to this au later…might even make it a full fledged fic who knows.

sigh comforting nat after ben is found guilty…established relationship

before that though- watching as the vote continues, over and over and over again, with nothing changing. watching the frustration bubble and build within nat as the vote progresses without change. she’s losing it, you can tell, but you cant do anything to help her. stepping in would just undermine her authority.

so when shauna pulls that shit and changes peoples minds, including two of the people nat trusted the most, travis and lottie, nat was heartbroken. so close and yet so far.

you were one of the few who didn’t change your vote to guilty, along with mari and robin.

almost immediately following her giving the guilty verdict, nat storms off to her tent. it’s still light out and there’s still much to do, but she can’t help it. she needs to calm down, needs to break where no one can see her- even if they all know what she’s feeling anyway.

you follow, albeit hesitantly. you don’t want her to be alone, but there’s also the chance that nat will be less than receptive towards your presence.

when you enter her hut, though, skinny arms find their way around your body, and nat’s head buries itself into your neck.

“i can’t- i can’t believe they did that,” she sobs. “and then what? what are we gonna do now, just kill him? there’s no need for that, he can just go back to living by himself, far, far away from us.”

“i know, i know, nat,” you comfort her. “i’m so sorry.”

“fuck i don’t get shauna. i understand she’s mad about her baby but for fucks sake, killing ben isn’t going to bring him back.”

you say nothing in response to this, instead choosing to hold her tighter instead, pressing kisses to the side of her head. ben was like a father to her, you knew. closest thing to a good dad that she’d ever had.

and, well. knowing shauna, nat was probably going to have to witness his death soon.

so you just held her throughout the night, until she fell asleep hours later, still in your arms. it was uncomfortable, but you made it work. anything to make her feel better before ben’s inevitable death.
