My Journey to Escape the War in Gaza

My name is Abdelmajed. I never imagined I’d be sharing my story like this, but life in Gaza has become unbearable. I am a survivor of the war here, and in the blink of an eye, everything I once knew—my home, my safety, my community—was ripped away from me.

The war has transformed Gaza into a graveyard of broken dreams. The buildings that once stood as symbols of life and resilience are now piles of rubble. Every corner is filled with the echoes of explosions. Every moment is shrouded in uncertainty. There is no security. There is no stability. There is no light at the end of the tunnel.

Basic needs have become luxuries. Food is scarce. Clean water is even scarcer. Hospitals are overwhelmed and under-resourced, and there is almost no medical care to be found. Every night, families go to bed hungry, praying they’ll wake up to see another day. The cost of basic necessities has skyrocketed, and it’s become a daily battle just to survive.

I’ve seen things I never thought possible—standing in long lines for a piece of bread, rationing every drop of water, and watching my people suffer in silence. I have lost everything—my home, my safety, my dignity.

Escape from Gaza is my only hope, but it’s almost impossible without financial help. The cost of evacuation is far beyond my means, and without support, I’m trapped in a warzone with no way out.

I’m reaching out to you now, in the hopes that someone, anyone, can help. I am not asking for luxury. I am asking for a chance—just a chance—to live. A chance to escape this never-ending cycle of fear, destruction, and loss. A chance to rebuild my life somewhere safe, where I can begin again, where I can find hope once more.

Any amount you can give will help me get closer to safety. Even the smallest donation will make a difference—it could be the lifeline I need to survive. Throwback Thursday! In 1944, the Office of Strategic Services (predecessor to the CIA) put out this sabotage manual for civilians living in Europe under Nazi occupation. This manual was only de-classified in 2008. It's an important piece of anti-fascist history, offering a fascinating look at what everyday, average citizens were being asked to do to resist fascist rule and work towards liberation. We have to announce that, sadly, we must go on another hiatus. 

This is not permanent, but we do not have a concrete idea of when exactly we are coming back that we would be able to provide you.

Our patreon will not be shut down, you may cancel your subscription if you wish and we have sent out emails to all patreon members to let them know and we will send a reminder near the end of the month just in case.

However - if you would like to continue supporting us on patreon, it would all go towards bringing us back from the hiatus sooner and support us being able to get prints made upon return - and we do promise this, when we do return, it will be with prints!

Any continued support from you would be beyond appreciated, but we do understand that if issues are not being made, you may not be able to afford to support us. Either way we are beyond grateful for all of you!

do we just send the finished illustration to your e-mail? is it important what dimension the picture has?

are you letting us know afterwards if the picture made it in the final zine?

Yes we will of ourse let you know if it gets in via email, we need a contract signed to publish your work! We can resize all work if need be, but it is better to submit bigger - we have also already answered a question on file sizes in our answered tag!

Who's name keeps showing up in that dream journal? Who's address is the serial number on the folds of your brain? What is it, that thing, that calls your name from the dark, that softly beckons, that makes you feel as if you've met before, when you know that you haven't.

I've been on the "Fuck Stickermule" train for a few years now after they posted COVID conspiracy bullshit, and it was found out their CEO was a Trump / Anti-LGBTQ+ donor.

Take your business elsewhere. Just because they have good deals occasionally shouldn't mean they should be able to use your money to support shitty recipients.

Some businesses I'd recommend checking out:

StickerGuy -Been using Sticker Guy for like 15 years for my bands stickers over the years. They have some of the best vinyl stickers I've ever used and those things are practically indestructible. Ridiculously good prices too.

RockinMonkey - I've only ever used them for one run of holographic stickers but the quality is so good and I'd definitely go to them again if I were to get more printed.

StickerNinja - Never personally used but I've seen so many people recommend them and their quality shows on their socials. And I'm fairly certain they're BIPOC owned, super pro-LGBTQ+ and are very vocally Pro-Palestine which is a plus in my book!

Some have likely been wondering why we have not posted a theme for August- well there isn't one!

We will be taking a break to rework a few things so we can function even better and get our first three issues printed for a big bunch of art fairs and makers markets happening in September!

Fear not however! We will be resuming our regular Publishing Schedule in September!

This week, we shall announce the theme for the SEPTEMBER issue, so anyone interested in submitting will have two months to prepare and submit something!

Keep an eye out for that theme and announcements for the events we will be selling prints at in Chicago!
