As a YouTuber(?) (Podcaster that just uploads content on YouTube) I personally try to avoid hyping subscriber milestones as goals-- posts like "10 until 100!" and whatnot, for a few reasons.

Mainly, I don't want people to follow our content just because I asked (even if it's nicely!); I want people to be genuinely interested in what we have to say, and there's no hard feelings if our content doesn't speak to people.

Of course, if someone decides to subscribe because they know me or my cohost personally, and they just want to support, I will happily and graciously accept the free follow.

But honestly, at this point in time, having a higher subscriber/follower count doesn't actually guarantee that people will engage with your stuff. Whether that's the algorithm to blame, or simply just the effort you put into your content, is a whole other can of worms. But there are definitely examples of accounts with relatively high subscriber counts, but low viewership.

And the other reason, which might sting a little, is because I find hyping the subscriber goal to be kinda annoying, especially if it's very constant. There's no hard feelings to creators who do this, because relevancy is kinda tied to growth in the online space (and for professional stuff such as acting, there's been cases where your follower count is weighed as a metric). And for the most part it doesn't really hurt anyone (unless there's some edge case that I haven't accounted for).

But if half of someone's feed is just pushing people to reach the next follower goal, it can be kind of a turnoff. It kind of sends the message that it's more about the subscriber count than the thing you're making, even if that's not the intent.

But I'll fully admit, sometimes I see the number getting soooo close and I just *cringe* aaaaaaaaaaa

I know I'm not immune. The temptation is there.
