Bound: The Complete Advent Fics by Saras_Girl
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just wanted to make this for my friend @cailynwrites because she's always been so generous with her podfic knowledge and she mentioned once something about loving Saras_Girl's advent fics and BOY am I hoping I didn't misremember that. Oh wait, I know, I think it was her desert island fic. Again, I hope my memory didn't lead me astray. It's just like me to embark on a massive project like this without double checking.
ANYWAY.
This is another tabloid folio-sized bind, just like my GallaPlacidia anthology. It has even more pages! What a beaut.
I made my own bookcloth out of some fabric I'd bought a while back to make a Christmas tree skirt, and then I got a Christmas tree skirt on clearance a couple of years ago so now I don't need to make one. It's fun and Christmassy without being too Christmassy, I think.
I used printable HTV for the title on the front and the spine. I also added in an oxford hollow to give it a bit more support because it is so heavy.
And because the type is pretty small, I included a little magnifying glass in the package. 🔎
I'm just excited to finally get to post this, I finished it a couple of months ago, but I had to wait to send it. It's just as well, now we're that much closer to Christmas!

Teenage Dreams and Other Illogical Things by @hopenight
Nedzu tasks Aizawa Shouta to investigate some oddities amongst the staff at Aldera Middle School. However, due to said oddities amongst the staff, it's unwise to slip Shouta in as a transfer teacher. Thanks to a temporary physical age regression quirk, Shouta is primed to go undercover as a student at Aldera with two objects in mind: figure out the discrepancies in the staff and keep the only Quirkless student at Aldera, Midoriya Izuku, safe. Deeply unimpressed at having to be fourteen again, even physically, Shouta finds an unexpected kinship with the kid. While he tries to keep Midoriya safe and solve the cast, Shouta ends up rediscovering some things along the way as well. Whether it's setting a bully on the path of redemption or reigniting his love of heroics, Midoriya Izuku and Aizawa Shouta are about to change each other's lives for the better.
Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia
Relationships: Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead & Midoriya Izuku, Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead & Nedzu, Bakugou Katsuki & Midoriya Izuku, Midoriya Inko & Midoriya Izuku, Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead/Yamada Hizashi | Present Mic, Midoriya Izuku & Shinsou Hitoshi
Rating: Teen and Up
A very fun read! Sometimes you just want to read a good fic with a strong platonic relationship and an interesting plot.
A lot of fun interactions happen at the Midoriya apartments so for the full title page spread I took a pic of them from the wiki and quickly converted it to vector before editing the colors.
For me, the sort of unofficial color scheme of Aizawa and Midoriya is yellow, green, grey, and red. I don't have any red papers in my stash that I felt matched the vibe and almost everytime I try to make a red paper it looks more suitable for a horror themed work 😅
So, I did some marbling and made this cute paper I covered the book cover with and made the color scheme yellow, green, grey, and pink.
Tumblr media
The edges are painted with yellow watercolor and sealed with beeswax, and the endbands were my first foray into using silk thread. Grey, of course, to go with my choosen color scheme. I understand the silk thread hype now.

Finished another dos-a-dos binding; this time the series Boat & Bird by @viridian-house, a kisame x Itachi diptych. Originally wasn't going to bind as a dos-a-dos, but inspiration struck regarding sharkskin, and I decided last minute with the typeset to print for a dos-a-dos binding. The spines of the book are done with shark skin-for thematic purposes-I tanned myself, specifically Pacific Spiny Dogfish (Squalus suckleyi, the same species jaws which can be seen in the first image). The grey is from the more dorsal skin, and the white-yellow is from the belly (ventral side) of a single shark. The fabric was fabric I picked up when I was in Japan a few years ago. Fic links below;
Lone Crow on An Empty Coast (M, 22k)
He spies the small smile on Itachi's face. It’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, he decides at once, delicate and almost shy. It warms his eyes in a way that makes Kisame think of a small pond from somewhere in his childhood, lit in the evening by a single lantern hanging from the pole of a fisherman’s raft.
His heart calms.
* * *
There's something lurking in Itachi's eyes that Kisame is determined to unearth.
(Kisame-centric; Itachi x Kisame; series of ficlets)
Wake (E, 31k)
He looks so serious that it would be funny if they'd not done what they'd just done. They stare at each other for so long that Itachi starts to wonder if he should be worried, and that is when Kisame's voice cuts through the silence. It is a correction that is said with composure, though of course that does not necessarily mean that it is said with ease.
“If this is to be the nature of our relationship, then, Itachi-san, you must know at least one thing: I do not think too much of your wellbeing. In truth, I cannot think enough of it."
* * *
Itachi quickly takes notice that Kisame cannot seem to stop staring at him.
(Itachi-centric; Itachi x Kisame; series of ficlets)

My final FandomTrumpsHate: Falling For You and Loving you Slow by and for @tawnyontumblr. I just love so many of Tawny’s wonderful fics, making this absolutely delightful.
Since these two are part of her Only You series, I picked some elements that would be similar—the beautiful marbled papers in differing colors for the covers and a matching bookcloth spine. @snek-panini had inspired me to give legal quartos a try, so that was a fun change. I now love this size!
Both are human AUs: in Falling Aziraphale is a sex-worker trying to retire, and Crowley is his new client. E, 37,189
Loving is a delightful burlesque AU, part one of Bookshop Burlesque so I included both stories to complete it. The musical choices featured were playing in my head for days. Such fun! E, 48,785

Fanbinding of Mission Status: SNAFU? - Tiny Books Bang 2025
Mission Status: SNAFU? by Anonymous
Fandom: Transformers Rating: Mature Archive Warnings:  No Archive Warnings Apply Category: M/M Words: 4, 346
Another set of tiny books for the Tiny Books Bang! This is a fun and fluffy Ratchet/Wheeljack fic, so you know there are some shenanigans. Also Megatron and Optimus Prime are cute in the background :)
These little guys are sewnboards bindings, so no endbands this time around:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The typesetter chose a delighful font for the title: you know this little adventure is meticulously recorded in Teletran's archives ;) :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I chose to apply graphite to the edges again, because I'm obsessed. I swear I won't use it on my next book, promise ;)
Tumblr media
Finally, I used a hot foil quill on the spine again, and some color-coordinating endpapers:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just two copies this time around, one for myself and one for the typesetter. This is a fic that I hadn't read before, but I enjoyed the light-hearted shenanigans! Thank you anonymous author, I'm sending good vibes your way!
I've added this to the Renegade Publishing Fanbindings collection on AO3, located here.

Saving Grace by @a-spectacular-pigeon
August 3, 2025
Full cloth case binding with paper inlay and design in heat transfer vinyl.
This fic is, in my opinion, the absolute top tier of PHM fanfiction. Reading it brought me all the same feelings as reading the novel, but moreso. The way Rocky is characterized in this fic is just so, so good, it's permanently impacted how I see the character. I stayed up till 2am to finish it and then immediately asked permission to bind it because I immediately knew I had to.
In my design I really wanted to emphasize that this book is from Rocky's perspective, even though it's written in english using earth units (as is explained, in universe, by the fact that Rocky is writing for a human audience). Converting the chapter numbers to seximal and using eridian numerals was an easy decision, but for the rest of the book I was faced with a challenge: physical books are an inherently visual medium, and (most of) my options for decoration are visual in nature. How do I handle that when the POV character is blind and experiences the world through senses completely foreign to humans? I thought about using sonar-style designs of audio waveforms, but figured that was too on the nose (and, in a way, too human). I eventually settled on using images of the disturbances soundwaves create through various media (liquids for the title page and table of contents, sand for the cover and chapter headings) to represent how eridians interpret the world via omnidirectional sound in a way that human readers can understand. My favorite cyamatics images were all black and white, which sent me down the road towards a strictly greyscale aesthetic. Most of the images and motifs in the design are straight horizontal and vertical lines, as a nod to the theme of "alignment" in the fic.
Materials: covers - 2 mm grey board spine stiffener - paperboard covering material - black linen bookcloth inlay - image printed on cardstock vinyl - siser easyweed white vinyl
endpapers - grey cardstock with pearl finish endbands - faux double core french endband, with cotton embroidery floss textblock paper - Church bookbinding paper, 20lb, cream, 8.5x11
Typeset: Designed in Scribus. The body text is Libertinius Serif Regular, with page numbers and running headers in SAASeriesADOT Regular, titles in Beiamox Regular, and ornaments in Bergamot Ornaments Regular. Images by Paul Hindemith, Jordi Torrents, and the NASA Johnson Space Center.
Cover Design: Designed in Photopea. Fonts used are Beiamox Regular (front, spine) and SAASeriesADOT (back). Cyamatics image by cadboy_hk.
dimensions: 5.25"x8.25"

Another FandomTrumpsHate: the lovely Lord of the Rings series What Peace Brings by @wanderingjedihistorian. My only non-Good Omens bind of the event.
This is a Boromir lives and learns how to cope after the war told in little vignettes. Wander suggested Gondor colors so black and white. I found this beautiful paper with violet flowers that I loved and provided a growing element that worked well with the themes.
Also features beautiful art by @mysandwichranaway and @stardryad and a charming divider by @saradika-graphics
Thank you for sharing wander! I really enjoyed binding this one.

Fanbinding of Predator, Prey - Tiny Books Bang 2025
Predator, Prey by NyonSuperstar
Fandom: Transformers Rating: Mature Archive Warnings:  Graphic Depictions of Violence Category: M/M Words: 7,304
These little guys are letter-sextodecimos (16 book pages per page of letter sized paper), which works out to about 2"x2.75"!
Tumblr media
For this year's Tiny Books Bang, someone typeset the first two stories of NyonSuperstar's "Predator, Prey" series, and I was lucky enough to be chosen to bind it!
The typesetter leaned into the vampire theme with an appropriately spooky title font, and some cobwebby corner decorations:
Tumblr media
I followed suite with some endpapers from a Halloween themed paper pack:
Tumblr media
These are my first silk endbands, in the appropriate red and purple for transformers:
Tumblr media
I gave the text block graphite edges (a new skill learned at this year's Renegade Retreat). And the cover paper is from the Take It or Leave It table at the Retreat:
Tumblr media
Titles on the spine were applied with the hot foil-quill:
Tumblr media
For those interested, I’ve also included this fanbinding in the Renegade Publishing Fanbindings collection on AO3, located here.
The typesetter and I both have our copies. However, I've fallen down on the job of reaching out to the author. As you can see, I've made three copies (the hard part!): I will see if I can track them down on the Social Medias and make an offer. I always hope to make authors feel appreciated by their fans!

Now that all three copies have made their way to the recipients, it's time to post pictures of my first end-to-end book bind!
These are copies of @robotmango's delightful Word of Honor novella, 'The wild geese.' Featuring arranged-ish marriage, Feral Gremlin Accidentally Falls For Husband, and really more self-mutilation than you might think for what's essentially a love story about finding freedom. I've loved this fic for a long time, and when I saw @rainsfalling's gorgeous typeset (mountain chapter headers! and scene breaks!) for @renegadeguild's Tiny Books Bang I was overcome with covetous glee >:D
Tumblr media
...of course, then I had to actually print the thing, which took four separate goes around the Brother tech support phone line and a whole replacement printer, BUT! printer nemesis defeated, the bookmaking itself was a delight! This was my first time working with textblocks all the way up from a flat page to a book, and I was right, the sewing is the best bit. Naked unglued textblocks are extremely wobbly, though, and this is also very cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another piece of technology conquered: my Silhouette Cameo vinyl printer (cutter?), scavenged from the ruins of Joann's demise and put hard to work cutting out so many tiny geese and mountain ranges. (Weeding is also very fun. Slightly less than sewing! But only because sometimes you lose pieces and have to swear about it.) Cover design remains a mystery, so I mostly copied @rainsfalling's interior design work ^.^;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One thing I knew I wanted was to make these three - one each for Rainsfalling and Orange and one for me to keep - to be sisters, not triplets. I got to try out faux double-core endbands at the Renegade Bindery retreat, and so swapping out a single colour in the endbands (and using different ribbons) seemed like a good way to change things up without making a ton more work for myself! (Pro tip, though: do not flirt with Thread Chicken while making end bands. It is very hard to keep an even tension with only two inches of tail!!!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all, I'm extremely happy with these as my first full project, & I feel like I learned a ton. (Much thanks to all the Renegade folks, particularly @runawaymarbles for letting me come over & slicing chunks off of these with her guillotine, without which the edges would be a far more jagged affair.) They're real! They open! You can read them like real books! I... have already typeset & am partway through making three more octavo projects ^.^;
Soon my shelves will be overwhelmed with tiny fic binds and you know what? I'm okay with that.

Bound: Nothing Gold Can Stay by @moonflower-rose
Yes, again. I bound this for @amandabynds for the same exchange I bound the Summer 2009 series that I posted here. (yes it's all moonflower_rose here all the time)
Okay, so out of the blue one day I decided to google Samspelt, an IKEA figurine that's mentioned in the fic. I've listened or read this fic approximately 394392 times and had not yet done so. And when I did, I had no choice but to buy one off eBay immediately.
So then of course I had to feature him in my binding. But I wasn't sure how. I was very much stuck. But then my dear friend @phoenixortheflame talked it through with me and I decided to make it a fake IKEA catalog page. Which was so fun! Handily, my binding desk is from IKEA, as is my wardrobe, so I made that corner into a little IKEA cover.
Tumblr media
This was the photo I ended up using. Even that lamp on the left is from IKEA. And look, all of the books next to Samspelt are MFR binds.
I ended up making my first 3 piece bradel here, too. It enabled me to feature the photo on the cover without worrying about having to line everything up perfectly (like I would have if I'd just printed the whole cover.)
Anyway, I love how it came out! I also sent one to @reveriepi because her podfic of it makes me unhinged.

Fanbinding: Mutually Beneficial Transaction by Pookaseraph
Tumblr media
Bind #33
Mutually Beneficial Transaction by Pookaseraph
Date Completed: July 2025
Size: Legal Quarto. 189 pages, 41,572 words.
I'm on a nostalgia kick to reread and bind some old favorites and this X-Men First Class AU fic was high on the list.
Summary:  “In his sophomore year at Columbia University, Erik, feeling slowly strangled by his mounting college debt, places an ad on a sugar daddies website. He doesn't know exactly what to expect from it, but when he's contacted by a man named Charles who seems less creepy than the other people who have responded to his profile, he decides to give it a shot. Charles is nothing like what he expected, and Erik finds himself slowly falling in love with his sugar daddy while trying to find out exactly what caused this amazing guy to buy his emotional and sexual intimacy when he clearly deserves so much more than that.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A good chunk of the story takes place in Pittsburgh, so the color scheme had to be yellow and black.  I recently tried my hand at paste paper for the first time and had a nice black paper with a grid pattern created with a fork.  The cardstock endpapers are a very yellow grid that has been in my stash for ages.  The spine cloth was from a Book Craft Supply mystery bundle.  The pack had plenty that would work for legal quarto and smaller, but probably wouldn’t be good for making folios.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Legal quarto is such a perfect size for a book - it’s just a smidge larger than a mass-market paperback and fits nicely in the hand.  Formatted in LibreOffice Writer with Liberation Serif for the body font (it may be the default but it’s also a nice, friendly round feel) and Wolfers Stamp for the title to try to get an oxidized metal look.
And a super satisfying in-progress shot. I’m really surprised with how things lined up.

the hands of god by @heartslogos - Genshin Impact, 134k, bound at folio size with rounded + backed spine! This copy made for @shadowling-guistical as a whimsical and slightly nerdy wedding gift.
I had a lot of friends consult with me re: the themes and design, since I've never actually played GI myself. We ended up with a cover inspired by the in-game icon for the Folio of Foliage. Used HYWenHei (very close to the official Genshin font, from what I can tell) for headings and titles, as well as a very fun leafy font called Nabel for dropcaps. Body text in Alegreya. Endpages from Andersen's (i picked up a bunch of real pretty paper while in Sydney, expect to see more of it whenever I post next)
Little tree on the bookmark. For knowledge. :>

Bookbinding - Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham
Tumblr media
Binds # 31 & 32
Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham
Date Completed: July 2025
Size: Octavo.  520 pages, 58,428 words
Tumblr media
I participated in @renegadeguild Tiny Books Bang this year, where we some people formatted books octavo size or smaller and then another group of people made books using those typesets, two copies - one to keep and the other to send to the original typesetter.  I was lucky enough to get to bind Wind in the Willows, typeset by the lovely Wren.  This book was such a big part of my childhood so it was great to spend some time with it again.
I dithered for ages on what the book should look like and eventually settled on some blue hand-marbled paper to tie in with the river theme, with brown and blue accents to pick up some of the colors in the veins.  The gold vines got added at the very end when the spine cloth was just looking a little large for how small the book was.  I’m especially fond of the endpapers, which I made using an image from my collection of Art Nouveau Dover Pictorial Archives books.

Man Turns Animal by @hatethysinner
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well well well well well... looks like someone has turned into Remmick trash.
It's me. I regret nothing.
What can I say that haven't been already said by everyone else about Sinners? How it is a love letter to Blues, of the South, of monsters human and without. But thanks to the movie, I now have a new monster bae that I want in multiple flavors! And Man Turns Animal by @hatethysinner is one of the best I have read, a Remmick who has a disturbing love for a black!OC that utterly ruins her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For this bind, I sought to make the typeset as minimalist as possible to make the story and the words shine through. With that said, I couldn't help myself from embellishing several of the story's poignant words at certain places at the end of each chapter (which were made from converting the section breaks in the original fic).
They were already pushed to an empty page by the preceding paragraphs, so why not make them impactful?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the book itself, I wanted to evoke a dark gothic cover that vibes with what is inside. So I got some fonts and borders and designed a cover with an image of Remmick being soaked and bloody red-eyed. Unfortunately, making the covers resulted in some of the printed toner coming off at the edges from me being rough. But I think that makes a weathered look to the ficbind that actually adds to the vibe.
Being a small book of 120 pages, I decided to not use thick cords for endbands. Instead, I rolled pieces of red paper to protect the top and bottom of the book. Simple, but effective.
Thank you to @hatethysinner for making such a disturbing and wonderful fic of our new favourite vampire boi!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(You wouldn't believe how much time it took for me to decide where the warnings and Tumblr tags should go!)
