Why she steps, emboldened and hand in hand with your fears. All of which are gruesome but kinder and gentler and warmer than you.

You want to grimace. You want to inch your fingertips towards her cheek. If only your uncalloused palm, a replica of your fathers and grandfathers and statesman and clergymen, if only it could be near enough to smooth her hair and tuck it neatly behind her ear - if only she could see how pretty she could be if she tried.

In another era she would have burned at the stake. A flame wall between your unwavering, pointing yellow fingernail and the bare skin between her eyes. In this lifetime she roams, at one with the snakes and spiders and ghosts in the woods. All of which she’d prefer to being with you.”

My paintings and drawings are comprised of overlapping figures stitched together in one composition. They are multifaceted, abstracted, and meant to evoke the idea that our identity is in flux. Though we are singular beings, our psyche is not. We are molded in part by time and our life experiences. The subjects in my paintings personify the strength and frailty of consciousness and the depths to which we experience the human condition. The figures are displaced, out of sync and painted together from a multitude of people, like ghosts or layered memories, both timeless and self-aware.
