Disclaimer: This post is dedicated to my hometown, Banjarmasin. @ibnusina I just attended an inspiring public lecture hosted by Erasmus Huis: Reuse, Redevelop and Design. How the Dutch deal with heritage. I completely notice that Banjarmasin has done something similar already since years ago, Kudos! I'm absolutely also excited and looking forward to more projects in the future. Even though I am aware of how complicated projects they are going to be. But of course, don't get swayed by difficulties! Anywho, I'd like to share a few takeaways from the sharing which are: 1. Dealing with heritage is a tricky one because it involves so many stakeholders. The gentrification issue somehow is inevitable. But, considering its positive impacts on the city, economy, and society in general after being reused/redeveloped/rebuilt is also wise. 2. This type of development needs intervention, creativity, and well-thought programs based on the needs so that it can perform as planned and activate the space as part of a place-making project. Highlighted example: M Bloc Space in Jakarta. (a must-visit one) 3. It should include the public, private, and civic sectors. Multi-disciplinary is a key! 4. Many more~ By rethinking the way we treat our heritage assets, I hope that we won’t end up creating a boring environment, but instead, increase the economic prosperity, provide hub/spaces for community and lastly promote eco-efficiency. Reminiscing a moment when I was in Denver, Colorado. This is one of places in the US that blew my mind as a foreigner. I can surely feel the vibe.
Shared street would probably have been a trend years ago, but experiencing a well-designed one was new for me.

It’s been 3 years since I designed this building as a sole architect in charge. Did this as (nicely put) a pro-bono, I was able to explore more opportunities and possibilities in design and imagine what future trend is going to look like.
Anyway, it is always nice being able to look back to what I have done so far with my expertise.
Here is a proposal of old mosque redesign project in Sungai Tabuk, Banjarmasin, Indonesia. 😃
