Worth It
Pairing: Matt Casey x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: Y/N struggles with demands from a friend, and Matt solidifies the fact he will always be in her corner.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.6K+
Warnings/Tags: toxic friendships
A/N: something bugged me recently so here’s a fic! This can be a bit of a controversial take based on the context but didn’t want to go full on in the fic so anyway~ just needed to get this off my chest.
Tumblr media
“Baby, I’m…” Matt’s voice drifted off slightly before he completed his sentence, “…home.”
You could only imagine being Matt and coming home to this sight.
You were seated in the middle of the living room in the apartment you shared with Matt, surrounded by yarn, bits of fluff stuck in your hair, sheets of sketched designs strewn across the floor.
You could feel the panic rise even more as you took in the look on Matt’s face. Especially since you couldn’t read his emotions as the anxiety clouded your brain.
“Matt, I…”
You couldn’t continue as you felt your chest tighten just a little, the anxiety and panic clawing its way to the surface and rearing its ugly head at you.
This had all started with Amy.
Amy.
She was a friend you’d known for almost your entire life. You’d laughed together, cried together, dreamed about the future together and talked about those dreams. Along the way, you both had stumbled, you saw less of each other, and Amy reached out less, sometimes forgetting to respond to your messages. Despite what everyone told you, you convinced yourself that it was just how life was and you made excuses for Amy’s growing absence in your life.
Then, she’d reached out to tell you she was getting married.
You felt the excitement first, remembering it like it was yesterday, how you had both talked excitedly about how you would be each other’s bridesmaids. It wasn’t a conscious memory, but it was like your brain had pulled it up, triggered by the words Amy was saying.
You didn’t even feel any apprehension when she asked if you would make the flowers for the bridesmaids. You weren’t too confident because crocheted flowers weren’t really your thing. In fact, you’d only tried it out once. So you’d told Amy you’d give it a shot, make a prototype and see how it went.
You could tell Matt hadn’t been thrilled with the idea but he didn’t say much, only offering opinions when you asked for them and keeping most of his comments focused on the task rather than Amy. Yet, you knew he was holding back. You knew Matt didn’t feel great about Amy, mainly because of the things he’d witnessed, in particular, the way she blew back into your life when it was convenient for her.
But things had been going downhill ever since you’d made the first prototype. She kept changing what she wanted, and even you were getting a little frustrated, mixed with a desire not to disappoint her.
So, having Matt stand there with a surprised look on his face in the middle of an extremely messed up living room only added to your current panic.
You felt your breath quicken and very soon, Matt’s figure was clouded by the tears you didn’t realize had pooled behind your eyes.
Without saying anything, Matt dropped whatever was in his arms, heading straight for you and folding you nice and tight into his arms.
“Y/N, it’s okay. It’s okay.” Matt whispered quietly, and you felt the rumble of his chest before your breathing slowly evened out once again.
Matt didn’t move immediately, but his fingers brushed off the residual tears that were rolling down your cheeks.
“Sorry, I don’t…”
Matt just tightened his arms a little and pressed a kiss firmly to the top of your head.
“Sorry,” You mumbled, scrubbing off the remnants of tears on your cheeks before glancing up at him.
Matt shook his head and leaned down for another kiss and you leaned into his embrace, temporarily forgetting about the mess in the living room.
Tumblr media
By the time you woke up the next morning, there was barely a trace of the mess last night. The yarn was back in the boxes you had in the corner of the room and the half done flowers were laid out neatly on the kitchen counter.
No one else would have guessed what had happened the night before.
Matt was almost on his way out, draining the last sip of his coffee and smiling as you walked into the kitchen.
He didn’t ask but just studied your face for a little longer than usual.
You smiled back at him and nodded. Go on, I’m fine.” You assured him, even though you stepped toward him and nuzzled your face into his shoulder.
Matt pressed you lightly against him and pressed a kiss to your temple.
“You know where to find me if you need me.” Matt whispered gently into your ear.
You smiled into his shoulder with a small nod before both of you pulled away and you let Matt go before he was late for shift.
Even as the door closed behind Matt, you felt it rear to the surface. This time, the feeling was different. It wasn’t even residual anxiety from the night before. You couldn’t put your finger on it but it was bugging you.
Deciding that it might be good to have a change of pace, you grabbed the materials you needed, slung the tote bag over your shoulders and left the house, figuring you’d find a nice cafe to work out of.
So you did and you had been right. A change of environment had done wonders for you and you finally had a final prototype for the new flower idea Amy had had.
You snapped a photo and sent it to Amy, quoting as reasonable a price you could for the materials and stitches. You even gave her what she called a ‘friend discount’.
But for someone who sometimes took days to respond to you, her response was quick now.
It’s a little out of my budget.
Thereafter, she proceeded to give you a price she was willing to pay that was such a lowball, you almost dropped your phone.
It took you a moment and another few breaths to register that feeling bubbling up in your chest now. You recognised it as a more intense version of what you had been feeling that morning. Now, you could indeed put your finger on it - Disappointment.
It was disappointment that raged within you. Especially when you’d always treated Amy like a sister.
You felt it swell as you thought about the effort you’d put in all these years, even just the effort in designing flowers she would want for her wedding, and then you remembered the many times she’d blown you off, and when she’d been dating that toxic ex of hers and had cut you out of her life for more than a year until the break up.
Resisting the urge to send her a scathing reply, you stuffed the rest of your belongings into your bag and headed out the cafe, only realizing where your legs had taken you when you looked up at the firehouse in front of you.
The trucks were all parked which meant everyone was around.
Now that you were here, you had second thoughts and you were about to retreat, thinking you’d talk to Matt during breakfast the next day when you heard an all too familiar voice call out to you.
“Y/N?”
Of course today would be the day Kelly came to get something out of his car.
“Hey, Kelly.” You greeted back, your voice sounding weird even to you.
Kelly either didn’t notice or chose not to mention it. He just smiled and nodded. “Come on, Casey’s in his office.”
You didn’t protest, letting Kelly lead you in as if it was your first time visiting the firehouse.
Everyone called out toward you with smiles and you waved back at them as you made your way through the common room and toward Matt’s office.
“Look who I found,” Kelly called with a casual rap at Matt’s door.
Matt sat up, glancing at you before smiling. “Thanks, Sev.”
Kelly winked, more at you than him, before leaving the both of you alone.
Matt got up to close his door and glanced at you. “Everything okay?”
After all, you rarely came to the firehouse without a call beforehand. Usually, you were worried about being in the way so you only came to bring them some food, especially when you’d heard it was a difficult shift.
You nodded. “Nothing big, I just…”
You held back a heavy sigh and just handed him your phone.
Matt’s eyes moved across your phone screen as he read the message and you could see the slight darkening of his expression, even though he was trying to keep it under control.
Matt looked back up at you and handed your phone back to you. “So what are you thinking?” Matt asked.
You shouldn’t have been shocked by Matthew Casey’s complete focus on your feelings, but you couldn’t help the little jolt of warmth that still filled you even though you and Matt had been dating for a long while.
You shrugged and Matt gave you a look, which just made you smile.
“Fine, I’m annoyed. It’s like every single moment with her has been flashing in my head since I got that message and the annoyance has been piling. That’s why I haven’t responded.”
“Go for it, babe.” Matt said, matter of factly.
You glanced at him with half a smile.
“You deserve to be treated with respect and I think it’s high time someone told her. And if you don’t want to do it, I’d be happy to.” Matt said, his voice laced with a subtle protectiveness.
You pulled him toward you, just so you can lay your head against him and smiled. “Thank you.”
Tumblr media
The conversation had gone about as you’d expected.
You tried your best to keep your side as light as possible while remaining firm, and ultimately, the decision had been for you to try to do little flower wristlets for Amy’s flower girls, instead of a large order of flowers.
You weren’t too thrilled to do it anymore, but a part of you felt obliged to, so you’d agreed.
It was only two days later that you had run into Amy when Matt had taken you out for dinner.
“Hey, I…” You greeted her even from a distance, trying to keep things as normal as possible.
But you didn’t miss the look on her face as she turned away, as if she was pretending not to see you.
Instinctively, you glanced up at Matt, your expression one of disbelief.
Matt just squeezed your hand but you could see the strain lines on his face which were a clear telltale sign he was using all his effort to hold back.
Matt was trying to reassure you, but the only thing you felt now was anger.
There was no more second-guessing on your part about whether you had been too harsh or too mean. You knew the answer.
You were about to open a small side business for your crochet. All your friends, including Amy, knew that.
In fact, anyone who tried to ask you to make something for them had always offered you more than what you quoted, reminding you that friends didn’t take each other for a ride.
Amy was the exact opposite and what really grinded at you was the fact that she thought she was well within her rights to be angry at you.
You were a little confused but the anger had swallowed it all up.
“You want to go elsewhere?” Matt offered.
You glanced up at him.
If this had been anyone else, it might have made you avoid the situation altogether. But right now, the indignant feeling had turned into anger.
Why should we? You put in so much effort into trying to get a reservation here. Let’s just have a good dinner.” You answered.
This felt like a huge breakthrough moment for you, even Matt felt it - you could do anything you had set your mind to.
You sat down with Matt in a corner of the restaurant, pretty sure that Matt had used one of his superpowers to get the both of you a great table and you turned your back on Amy, focusing all your energy and attention on the one person who was worth it.
Once the appetisers were served, you’d thrown Amy to the back of your mind, sinking into Matt’s company and enjoying the date night that both of you deserved.
It was just as the both of you had stepped out after paying the bill when someone grabbed your arm.
“Food’s great here, isn’t it?”
You blinked back in disbelief at Amy, who was smiling as if nothing had happened.
It would have been much better if you hadn’t met her in front of the restaurant earlier. Now, you were just wondering what the hell she was doing.
Matt didn’t say anything, just stood by your side and waited.
“What are you doing?” You asked, unable to hold it back any longer. There was a slight tremor in your voice that no one but Matt picked up on.
The saddest part was Amy used to be able to. Now, she just didn’t care.
That realization hit you hard but also allowed you to look her straight in the eye.
Frustratingly, Amy was staring at you as if she was confused by your question.
When you didn’t offer her any explanation, she swallowed and spoke, “Come on, Y/N. I told you I was on a budget. You’re my friend, I didn’t expect you to try and profit off my wedding.”
You glanced up at Matt just a little and he merely nodded in encouragement.
“Profit? Amy, you agreed to pay! You are literally the only person that has lowballed me for anything crochet related. I’m not even asking you to pay me for the prototypes or the materials used for it. Have you looked up the prices online? I’m profiting nothing.” You paused and looked her directly in the eye. “Look, I think this isn’t a good idea. “
“What are you saying? You don’t want to talk about it?” Amy asked, and you could hear the tone in her voice change slightly.
You sighed. “I’m saying I don’t think I can make anything for your wedding, or be your bridesmaid. I’ve said everything that needs to be said.”
“Y/N, you… What am I supposed to tell my family?”
You couldn’t hold back the chuckle that escaped your lips. You shouldn’t have expected anything else but the fact that she was more worried about having to explain what had happened to her family members who had always treated you as one of their own, spoke volumes.
“You can tell them what happened, Amy. Just remember that if anyone calls me, I’m telling the truth.”
Matt smiled and slung an arm around you, turning to lead you away before he paused.
He glanced back at Amy before he spoke, “She cared. She really cared and you threw it back in her face. She deserves someone who treats her as a friend.”
You tugged at Matt’s arm and Matt sighed before taking you away with him.
Tumblr media
The journey home had been pretty silent and Matt only broke it as he closed the door behind the both of you and hung both your jackets by the door.
“You okay?”
You glanced up at him and nodded before you pulled back again and shrugged. “Kind of, you know? I’m upset but like it also feels lighter? If that makes sense.”
“It just has to make sense to you. The only thing important to me is how you are feeling right now.”
You stepped into Matt’s embrace and smiled against him.
“With you? Matthew Casey, I’m on top of the freaking world.”
Matt smiled, leaning back enough to take a look at you before pressing his lips gently to yours in a deep kiss.

5 Times You Held Back + 1 Time You Didn't Have To
Pairing: Will Halstead x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: Five times you held back, and the one time you didn’t have to
Tumblr media
Word Count: 3K+
Warnings: not Natalie Manning friendly, not Manstead friendly
A/N: Got into my protect Will Halstead feelings and this is the result. Thanks to @seatsbythepit for being the angel she is and beta-ing for me! Also tagging @squadmuse because she wanted it! Anyway edited this at 1am so all mistakes are mine!
WILL HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
1
Today was it.
You’d told yourself you’d do it. You would tell Will how you felt.
You’d grown up with the Halsteads and the brothers had taken you under their wing. You’d been almost inseparable since that first day, other than the time both Will and Jay had left Chicago for other pursuits. But that hadn’t changed much of anything. Your bond with the Halsteads was a constant.
They were the older brothers you never had, the family you yearned for. Until the day you realized you’d fallen for Will. You’d fallen so hard that there wasn’t even a way out of it.
And only that idiot Will had absolutely no idea. Even Jay had picked up on it, but Will was clueless.
You needed to rip the band aid out, so you’d decided that it was better to get it over with.
You’d headed straight down from the wards once you’d looked in on your patient, hoping to catch Will.
You stepped out of the doors, noticing Will and Natalie almost immediately. You were already heading for them when they stepped toward each other and you knew what was coming. But it was like being unable to tear your eyes away from a car wreck you knew was going to happen.
So you stood there, like a complete idiot, as you watched Natalie step up to Will, her head angled in what you knew was a kiss.
Next thing you knew, before it happened, someone had spun you around.
Jay stared back at you with concern only an older brother would have filling his eyes.
His eyes snapped back upwards for just a second before he gave a small smile. “Come on, let’s go.”
You didn’t say anything, just let Jay lead you to your car. You sat in the passenger’s seat for a while and Jay glanced at you. “You okay?”
You turned to give him a smile. “Yeah, of course. It’s not like Will and I…” You let your voice trail off and you turned away.
Jay just started the car and drove off, leaving his older brother behind.
2
You knew this day would come. The day Will would sit you and Jay down and tell you he was engaged.
You always knew it.
But you hadn’t expected to feel like you’d been stabbed in the middle of your chest.
Jay was no help because he hadn’t even warned you, even though you knew for a fact that the ring sitting on Natalie’s finger now had been at Jay’s apartment a week ago.
Then, of all things, you had to overhear Natalie and Will talking about the wedding.
“A church wedding, a reception… I’ve done all that before.”
You’d been staying out of their business but those words seemed to find you like a heat-seeking missile.
It was hard enough dealing with your overwhelming feelings for Will as he was planning a wedding with a girl he was head over heels in love with. But hearing such a comment really got under your skin.
You couldn’t really believe your ears. Even if this was Natalie’s second marriage, you wondered why she hadn’t considered that it was Will’s first. His excitement was almost contagious. At least it would have been if you weren’t so overwhelmingly and stupidly in love with him.
You wanted to tell Natalie that she was being immensely selfish, that she had no idea how good she had it and a few other choice words but you swallowed them all down and turned away.
You smiled a little when you heard Will stand up for himself, just glad he wasn’t going to give in, but you didn’t turn around, merely walking away to join some of the other doctors in your department.
After all, there was nothing you could say.
3
You felt you’d handled everything great overall, especially after everything that had happened.
Every time you felt you could do this, Will would pull something crazy on you that made you need to take a step back. Be it his engagement, his wedding, his disappearance, or witness protection.
Even when he’d returned, you’d found out from Jay first because he’d naturally gone to Natalie.
You couldn’t even be pissed because you were so relieved he was okay.
Then, he showed up at your door.
“Will?”
You glanced at the clock on the wall. “It’s the middle of the night. You okay?”
Will nodded. “Look, Jay’s on assignment. Can I crash here tonight?”
You frowned but stepped backward to let him in. “Yeah, of course.”
You’d gotten the couch ready for Will as best as you could before getting him a beer. “What’s up?”
“Natalie kicked me out.” Will said quietly.
You froze. “What?”
You thought you’d heard him wrongly. Because if you were Natalie, you’d put him in your arms immediately, you’d take in every moment you had with Will and you’d just be glad he was home, back in Chicago, safe and sound.
You swallowed, pushing the thoughts back down because you couldn’t allow yourself to go there. Not now, because no matter what this was, it didn’t change the fact he was still engaged to Natalie.
You’d never particularly liked Natalie. You hadn’t disliked her, you just didn’t have much of an opinion. Until this moment.
You hadn’t even been resentful when she’d shown up with Will on the night you’d set aside for the Halsteads although Jay was a little irritated but you knew he was just being protective. You hadn’t even felt much when she handed you the wedding invitation at work but tonight?
You felt it now, the annoyance that coursed through your veins as you looked back at Will sitting on your couch. You were glad to have him back of course, but he wasn’t the Will that had left. Jay had reminded you it was to be expected, and you knew that but seeing the unfamiliar lines of anxiety across his face felt unsettling and you hated it.
But to throw your fiancé out on the first night he was home?
You couldn’t understand any of this.
The urge to tell Will everything you felt was pulsating through you, so you swallowed and patted his arm.
“Get some sleep.”
“Thanks Y/N.”
You could only force a smile.
4
“Will?”
You felt it, the fear clawing at you when you saw him running in carrying Natalie, blood running down his face.
“Oh God, Will…”
“I’m fine!” Will snapped.
You’d never shied away from a fight with Will, feelings or no feelings but this wasn’t the first time he’d snapped at you since Natalie had broken things off and returned his mother’s ring to him.
You knew things had been hard for him. You weren’t sure if it was worse being Will who had been dumped, or if it was worse to be you, forced to watch Will pine after Natalie even after it was clear she’d moved on as easily as if they hadn’t almost gotten married.
It was probably worse to be you, considering the only thing you could do was divert his attention and anyone who knew Will knew that it was like fighting a losing battle.
You wanted to tell him he deserved better. You wanted to tell him how you’d never make him feel the way he felt now. You were even down for a drinking and bitching session.
But Will wasn’t ready for it.
So, you could only hang there quietly in the background, making sure Will knew you were there when he needed you.
But the fact he’d snapped at you right now, when he could barely stand straight, his face still stained with blood, unable to tear his eyes away from the room Natalie was in, just felt like it was adding insult to injury.
You felt the worry switch to hurt, then annoyance and borderline anger before you turned away. You motioned at one of the nurses, who nodded at you.
You didn’t tell Will you were leaving but you left word at the nurses’ station for them to leave Connor a message. At least he’d have a harder time fighting Connor.
You left the hospital, making the turn toward a bar near your place. You didn’t feel like going home to an empty apartment, but you didn’t feel like going to Molly’s where everyone knew you either.
You hadn’t gone too far when Jay had called, asking if you heard about Will and if you could pick him up.
Holding back a sigh, you agreed and turned right back around to drive back to the hospital.
You found Will upstairs, standing over Natalie, right before Philip walked right up to Will. You couldn’t hear exactly what you were saying but the argument was clear.
“Get out of my face.” Will growled, just as you slid yourself between them.
“Back off.” The two words slipped through your gritted teeth as you glared at Philip. This guy had always given you the creeps.
You turned back to look at Will. “Both of you.”
Then, you gently pushed Will out of the room.
“Y/N…”
You didn’t look directly at him. “I’m only here because Jay called. Come on, I’ll take you back.”
Ignoring the way his gaze lingered on Natalie, you stepped towards the lifts first, jamming your hands back into your pockets.
The only other thing you said to him that night was, “It’s not your fault.”
You didn’t let Will answer before you closed Jay’s apartment door on him, turning to return back to yours.
5
You had come down to the ED since Will had asked you to wait for him so you could go for drinks, the awkwardness from the night of the accident long lifted. But he’d started without you, because you’d spotted them already drinking. However, before you could step into the lounge, Will burst out, running right past you.
“Will!” You yelled, but he didn’t even hear you.
And you knew that wasn’t a good sign.
You stopped just long enough to ask Crockett what had happened before you were tearing out after Will as well.
On a good day, Will couldn’t keep his mouth shut to save his life.
It used to be a running joke with you and Halstead brothers that one day Jay would hold him down and you would sew his mouth shut. That way he’d stop getting himself into trouble.
And today was definitely not a good day.
Especially not that Will’s gut feeling had been proven right - Philip was lying to Natalie.
You made it out just in time to hear Will and Natalie talking, so you hesitated. This didn’t seem like a conversation you should be involved in.
You were about to turn around and leave when the next words out of Natalie’s mouth made you freeze in your tracks.
“I can take care of myself! Just get out of my life!”
You spun around, pretty sure your mouth was agape.
You could see the hurt in Will’s eyes even from this distance and you felt the anger bubble up in your gut.
But you also knew you needed to prioritize.
You stepped right up to Will, not even aware if Natalie had already walked off and closed your hand around his wrist. “Come on, let’s go.”
Will didn’t move for a second, like he was still processing.
You felt that urge bubble up to the surface once again, the one where you wanted to run to Natalie and shake some sense into her. Better yet, you wanted to tell her exactly what you thought of her and how she treated the people around her.
But there was a strange look in Will’s eyes that you’d never seen before. So, you didn’t move, just waited, your hand still clasped tightly around his wrist.
And once again, you didn’t say anything.
1
Things had been strangely quiet since that confrontation Will had had with Natalie.
They avoided eye contact in the ED, even though there were a few times you caught Will looking in her direction, like he was considering talking to her.
That had only lasted a few days, however.
It could have had something to do with the conversation you and Will had had about finally moving on, or the fact that Natalie still looked at him coldly as if Will was the one who had lied to her or hurt her.
But no matter what, Will did seem to be moving - in a direction opposite from Natalie.
It felt like you’d finally gotten your friend back.
You’d been spending a lot of time together, that Jay had teased you about making it way too obvious that you only wanted to hang out with Will.
But there was something different.
You couldn’t really pinpoint it - maybe it was the way he stood a little too close, or maybe it was the way he laughed, but something felt different, especially as he seemed to finally put her down.
Then, it came. One night, the both of you were standing on the roof, watching a video that one of Will’s patients had sent to him when you heard her call out to him.
“Will, can we talk?”
You felt your heart sink. Of course, the familiar taste of rejection that you’d almost learned to live with, but also the dread that this was happening once again.
You pulled back from Will a little, only just realizing how close the both of you were standing with each other.
You gave Will a small smile that didn’t reach your eyes and said quietly, “I’ll see you downstairs.”
To your surprise, Will reached out, his hand closing gently around your wrist.
You didn’t miss Natalie’s eyes flicking toward his hand, but you were just as surprised so you glanced back at him.
Will didn’t seem to know what to say then he gave you a small smile. “It won’t take long.”
You nodded, turning to leave.
Natalie didn’t even wait for you to be out of earshot before she began.
“I remember, Will. I remember the night of the accident. I was coming to tell you that I was wrong, that I was really unfair to you… and that I love you.”
It was an instinctive reaction as you froze, one foot in front of the other.
But you didn’t stick around to hear Will’s answer, pushing yourself out the door by sheer willpower.
You decided you didn’t really want to wait for Will. There was no point in sticking around just to have your heart broken anyway. But the universe seemed to have a problem with your decision and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion around you, even the lift was exceedingly slow today.
Fucking Murphy.
You’d finally stepped toward the carpark, heading straight for your car when a hand closed over your wrist, pulling you back.
You looked back into Will’s eyes as you turned around, your heart sinking. You really didn’t need this now.
Your eyes must have betrayed you because Will’s expression changed. “I need to tell you something.”
You pulled your arm gently out of his grasp and shook your head. “Not now, Will. I don’t need to hear it now.”
“Yes, you do.” Will said, his voice pressing a little firmly.
Swallowing down the urge to snap at him, you turned to face him. “Look, it’s not any of my business who you see. You don’t have to tell me anything.”
A small frown crossed Will’s face and he took half a step back. Then, as if he’d made some sort of decision all on his own, he glanced back at you again.
“It is your business if you’re that person.” Will’s voice was low but you swore it felt like the entire temperature outside had shifted. You doubted your own ears as you blinked back at him.
Will continued, “When Natalie told me to get out of her life, I did. And it was… not what I expected. That was the best decision I ever made, Y/N. I finally… I finally realized what I was missing.”
You blinked back stupidly at him.
“I promise this isn’t some spur of the moment thing. I’ve been trying to find a way to tell you but I just… it sounded stupid or insincere everytime I tried so I kept waiting for the perfect opportunity..” Will’s voice faded a little, his eyes searching your face for some sort of indication.
When there was nothing, Will spoke again.
“Y/N, say something.”
You didn’t really know what to say because nothing seemed real.
You glanced up at Will again but you knew Will. He wouldn’t fuck around with something like this. He was oblivious, that was clear. But ever since that mess with Nina, you also knew he’d never jump into something unless he’d sorted his own feelings out.
“Will, it’s always been… well, you.” You paused, taking a deep breath.
“You have no idea how many times I had to hold back. All the things I wanted to tell you. How was I supposed to tell you how I felt when you weren’t looking at me? How was I supposed to help you see that you deserved someone who loved and cared about you at least half as much as how you care about people around you? That you deserve to be protected too? But I couldn’t. I told myself that even if I had to be your best friend or younger sister for the rest of your life, you deserved to have someone who would be there for you, no matter how much it hurt…”
Will didn’t let you keep rambling on. Instead, he stepped forward, pulling you gently to fit your body against his, in the middle of the open carpark, and pressed his lips against yours.
It was hesitant at first, but when you responded, you felt Will fall into it as well, the kiss going deeper.
“I’m sorry I was an idiot. A blind idiot.” Will said, his voice low as he gently pulled away again.
You just smiled. “Better late than never right?”
Your teasing voice just made him smile and he circled his arms around you, pulling you tightly against him without saying anything else.
And you knew. You knew that you didn’t need to hold back any longer.

A/N: Short one because I haven't released something for Jay in way too long! This has been sitting in my WIP drafts for the longest time so I finally got it written! An anon requested something similar for Will but since I had a half-written fic, I finished this and posting this instead! As always thanks to bestie @seatsbythepit for being my beta queen~!
JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You hadn’t thought this through.
It sounded like an innocent enough date when Jay had asked if you wanted to go watch the game. You hadn't been dating for long, and every day felt a little unreal in a ‘I can’t believe Jay Halstead wants to go out with me’ kind of way, and you appreciated every opportunity you got to spend with Jay especially since you never knew if he would have to go undercover or spend nights at the district trying to clear a case.
But now that the game was approaching, you were in a bit of a panic.
You enjoyed watching a game, but you didn’t always know what you were watching or doing, and you weren’t sure you were ready to let Jay see that side of you.
“Y/N, everything okay?” Kelly’s voice interrupted your internalized panic and you glanced up.
“Ah, I should have thought of you!” You proclaimed, earning yourself an eyebrow raise from the squad lieutenant. “I need your help.”
Kelly raised an eyebrow but chuckled before nodding toward his office.
You thanked all the stars that it was a quieter shift. After all, an entirely quiet shift didn’t exist at Firehouse 51. But at least that’s the way you liked it.
Kelly gave you a crash course, but not without reminding you that you owed him one. You spent the rest of the downtime studying it so that at least you’d have something smart to say, even though there were a few times you wondered what the hell you were doing.
Tumblr media
Hard work indeed paid off.
You walked out of the game, feeling a little embarrassed as Jay’s friends gushed over you.
“Jay, you got a good one. My girlfriend doesn’t even want to come to games with me.” One of his buddies quipped.
Jay laughed, putting an arm around you and grinning. “Hey, should I be worried? What if you guys just call her for the games instead?”
The laughter rumbled through the group as they all nodded, teasing Jay that they’d rather call you instead of him in the future.
You really did owe Kelly one.
As his friends dispersed, calling that Jay had better bring you out for the next game, Jay’s phone rang.
You nodded at him, telling him he’d better take it, assuring him that you and Will wouldn’t leave him behind.
Jay took the call from Voight, glancing toward where you and Will were talking as he nodded. “Yeah, I got it. I’ll be right in.”
Jay could feel the dread in his gut, that felt just a little too much like guilt that he had to blow off again tonight even though he’d promised a nice after-game dinner and maybe some drinks and cuddling.
“This is why you don’t promise anything, Jay.” He mumbled to himself, before he walked back toward the both of you.
“Hey, Y/N, I…”
You glanced at the look on Jay’s face and just smiled. “Gotcha.”
“Sorry.” Jay couldn’t even say anything more because everything else in his head sounded like an excuse.
“I’m not saying I’m not disappointed, because I kinda am. But I get it. And if these were bells going off for the ambulance, I’d do the same thing you’re doing now. So, go.” You paused. “But you owe me a mind-blowing date.”
Jay laughed and nodded. “That, I definitely do.”
You shot him a huge smile and headed off toward Jay’s truck to wait because you knew he’d at least take you home before heading back down to wherever he was supposed to go.
Will watched the exchange with a mix of amusement and awe before he glanced at his younger brother.
“Jay?” Will called, before Jay and him headed off in different directions.
Jay glanced up at Will and Will smiled. “You better marry that girl.”

There Will Be Peace (6): Oddly Familiar
Tumblr media
Chapter 6: Oddly Familiar
Chapter Summary: On a new case in a new town, Y/N gets a feeling of deja-vu.
Word Count: 2.2K
Warnings: canon-typical violence/blood
A/N: Hi guys!! I'm so sorry for putting this on hold for so long, but I never meant to abandon this! I'm still writing this obviously because of my extended hiatus from tumblr and writing in general but thought I'd put this up! Remember to leave a footprint if you read and like this!
SERIES MASTERLIST || DEAN WINCHESTER MASTERLIST
Chapter 5 || Chapter 7
Tumblr media
You turned your head, hearing the tinkle of Leah’s laughter, the sound of Seth’s feet pattering across the wooden floorboards of your house. You frowned, the smell of freshly cooked dinner confusing you before it felt like everything was warping.
Your eyes snapped open, and you recognized the purr of the Impala’s engine, feeling both disappointment and relief at the same time. It had been one of the rare good dreams, like a memory reel taken out of your brain archives, letting you re-live the simpler times of your life when you had your family. But you were also relieved that it had been a good dream, you really didn’t relish having a nightmare in the back of Dean’s baby.
You looked up and Dean was watching you from his mirror.
“We okay back there?” He asked quietly, and your eyes flicked over to Sam who had nodded off to sleep in the passenger seat.
You nodded. “Yeah, where are we?”
Dean let his eyes linger on you for just a while longer before he looked ahead again. “We still have a way to go. Go back to sleep.”
But you didn’t want to, partly because now that you’d had a good dream, you were a little worried about closing your eyes and being caught off guard by a bad one. Worse still, you’d get greedy, you’d want the good dreams and the more you wanted it…
You shook your head, reaching for the laptop Sam had gotten you a while back that was sitting next to you. “I’m already up. Besides, it’s kind of rude for everyone but you to be asleep.”
Dean cast a look at Sam. “Exactly.” He paused, suddenly turning the music up to the maximum volume and singing at the top of his voice.
Sam practically jumped out of his nap, his head hitting the top of the Impala as Dean chortled, continuing to sing.
“Nice, Dean. Real mature.” Sam muttered as he reached over to lower the volume.
You smiled, even though Dean didn’t respond to Sam, humming to his music like he couldn’t hear Sam, or like he wasn’t the one who had just shocked his younger brother awake.
You looked back at the screen in front of you. Sam had taught you early on how to look out for demonic signs. This one reeked of it, whole families slaughtered with only one survivor. That was way too similar and the sense of deja-vu that hung over you was haunting. And Dean confirmed it with the set in his jaw, and the way Sam looked over with concern at you.
You closed the laptop again, leaning backwards and closing your eyes. Staring at the omens or the newspaper articles were useless, there was no research to actually be done until you got there.
You opened your eyes almost immediately, feeling eyes on you again, your eyes meeting Dean’s in his rear view mirror. Dean’s eyes flicked back towards the road, after a second but it was enough for to pick out the concern swimming in his green eyes.
Tumblr media
You knew where Dean was heading the moment he turned into town - the town diner.
When you’d first started joining them on hunts, you’d almost believed Dean’s reasoning about how diners were the best place to start any investigation, until you’d seen the way his eyes lit up at the bacon littering his plate, or the light in his eyes when he bit into a full cheeseburger. While Sam had rolled his eyes, you’d just found it cute the way he seemed to turn into a child around the things he loved, a side that was very different from that gruff first impression of him.
But Dean’s plan was sidetracked as the three of you noticed a crowd outside one of the houses you passed by.
So Dean had brought the Impala to a stop and the three of you had climbed out. With a nod to Dean, you’d infiltrated the crowd as he and Sam made sure they had the right badges to circle around straight to the police tape.
There was chattering around you and you shook off the hood covering your head in order to hear better, jamming your hands into your pockets and peering at what everyone else was.
Body bags.
You clenched your hands into fists when you felt them start to shake, turning your attention instead to the chatter around you.
“What happened?” You asked someone standing next to you who looked like she’d spill everything she knew to a stranger.
You had always been good at reading people.
“They said there was an accident. Only the wife survived. Her husband, and both kids didn’t make it.”
You swallowed, clenching down on your teeth so as not to reveal the turmoil that was turning around inside of you now. You nodded quietly, looking back up at the house. “Has anything out of the ordinary happened recently?”
The woman looked back at you, studying you a little closer now like she was deciding how much to tell you. “We’re just having some bad luck around here. Too many deaths.”
You were spared from answering when you glanced to your left and spotted Dean waving you over. You gave him a discreet nod, waiting around a while more before you quietly extricated yourself from the crowd in front of the house.
Dean looked like he was worried so you frowned. “What’s up?”
“Nothing.” Dean said quickly.
You raised an eyebrow. “The case, Dean.”
“Oh, right.” Dean looked slightly embarrassed and you were surprised that it wasn’t annoyance that filled your belly as you watched his almost lame effort to be nonchalant and look like he wasn’t worrying about you. “This is the third case, not second. The first family wasn’t featured in the papers since they were keeping it quiet.”
You nodded, glancing back at the house. “One survivor for all three?” You asked.
You didn’t miss the look the brothers exchanged. “Yeah, one. No sign of breaking in, no valuables taken. It’s like someone just came in just to kill them.”
Even though the three of you were standing off to the side, you were starting to attract the attention of some locals.
“Alright, let’s get out of here.”
——
You glanced at Dean, as he pulled the Impala to a stop at one of the houses two streets away from the previous night’s crime scene.
“I called the station. They told me she’s staying here with her sister for the time being.” Dean told you.
“You’re not babysitting, right?” You asked, your eyes narrowed.
Dean didn’t answer you for a beat but then he let out a small laugh. “Come on, making Sam go do the dirty work is part of my duty as his older brother. Don’t take this away from me.”
You cracked a smile and Dean smiled back. “Alright, let’s go.”
The door was answered by an older woman who must have been the sister that they’d mentioned. “Hi, I’m Agent Day and this is my partner, Agent Rogers. We’re looking for Caitlin Fox?”
The woman glanced at the badges the both of you held up before she nodded, stepping back. “She’s still very upset.”
“We’ll be gentle. I promise.” You assured her.
The woman nodded. “Why is the FBI investigating this?”
You glanced at Dean, who gave you a discreet nod, before you answered. “This isn’t the first case, the bosses are just concerned.”
That seemed to sate her curiosity for the time being before she showed the both of you into the sitting room and told you she’d go get her sister.
Dean let you take the lead on this one, even though you could feel his eyes on you like he was watching out for a meltdown. You couldn’t even be annoyed because you knew he was worried, but at the same time Dean also knew you were the best person for this.
You connected with Caitlin almost instantly, reaching out for her hand and guiding her through the recounting of what had happened - how she had been in the shower and by the time she came down, they were lying in pools of their own blood, and most importantly how she was now all alone.
You asked her the usual questions you’d heard Dean or Sam ask victims’ families a million times. “Were you having any troubles recently? Any weird feelings in the house of cold spots?”
“Cold spots?” She frowned in confusion.
You barely batted an eyelid. “You know sometimes it’s just a physical reaction to something that’s off. Like that feeling you get when someone’s watching you?”
Caitlin shook her head. “Everything was good, not out of the ordinary. We didn’t have any enemies. Shawn was only five.”
You swallowed, unable to stop your thoughts wandering to Seth.
As if he could read your mind, Dean reached out and squeezed your hand discreetly, hidden from Caitlin’s view.
You looked back up at Caitlin. “Alright, I think that’s all we need for now. If we have more questions, we’ll be in touch.”
So with nothing made clearer after talking to Caitlin, you got back into the car with Dean and he drove off back towards the house where it’d happened.
It was quiet now, compared to the ruckus of the night before. People passed the house almost like the crime scene tape was invisible to them, or as if they hadn’t been standing right out here 12 hours ago.
Maybe this was how it had been at home too, you wouldn’t know, since you’d grabbed Leah and run but it must have been a spectacle too - your parents dead, the children gone…
“Hey, you okay?” Dean touched your arm gently and you looked up. “We can take a minute.”
You wanted to argue but instead you just took a deep breath, gently blowing air out of your lips, before you glanced back at Dean. Dean wasn’t even looking at you anymore, just looking straight ahead, like he was trying not to intrude into your personal space but also keeping close.
Feeling your eyes on him, Dean turned to glance at you and you nodded back at him.
Dean studied you for a while more, before he nodded. “Alright, let’s go.”
“Seriously guys?” Sam asked, jogging up to the both of you as you headed towards the house.
Dean gave his brother a look but didn’t say anything.
“Anything?” You asked Sam, successfully changing the topic.
Sam glared at Dean. “Seriously dude, next time you’re taking the morgue. Their insides were practically melted, apparently the cause of death is inconclusive because they have no freaking idea what the hell could do this.”
“Proving our point.” Dean muttered, ducking under the crime scene tape and lifting it so you could pass under it.
The three of you moved in, and you tapped your jacket pocket to make sure you could feel your FBI badge in there, just in case someone decided to check out the crime scene again.
You headed for the living room, while Sam moved upstairs and Dean moved into the next room, as if he wanted to stay close.
You looked through everything, the EMF reader staying silent in your hand, until you reached into the sofa, your hand closing around something.
You pulled it out, making a face.
“Dean!” You called, just as he popped his head around the corner.
“You got something?”
You raised the small hex bag you’d found.
“Great.” Dean made a face. “I hate witches.”
Tumblr media
You stared back at the screen in front of you. The lore wasn’t much help. You knew nothing. Whether it was one witch, a coven, and what the hell they wanted.
“Y/N?”
You glanced up, and realized Sam had already been watching you. Dean had stepped out to get food, leaving “the brains at work” as he called it. You shook your head at Sam. “You know what, I’m switching this up.”
Sam frowned in confusion, as you snapped the laptop shut.
“Look, if I was police, which I should have been before…” You swallowed as you let the thought wash over you, just waiting for it to move on.
Sam didn’t say anything, like he knew you just needed to wait it out.
You took a deep breath., before you cleared your throat. “Say we didn’t know about witches… I’d look at victimology.”
Sam nodded, as you laid out the newspaper clippings and case files he’d managed to get.
There was a silence as you arranged everything on the table, both you and Sam standing to get a better look. “Maybe it’s not about the people who were killed.”
Sam glanced at you and you knew he’d already caught up. “The survivors?”
For the next hour, you and Sam delved into anything you could find about the survivors - social media, newspaper clippings, online school yearbooks. Dean didn’t say anything when he returned, putting the food down on one of the adjacent stools, his eyes watching the both of you silently until you looked up.
“Okay, so all the wives survived so far, right?” You said, pulling out the newspaper clippings.
Dean nodded, crossing his arms. “Yeah?”
“They went to high school together.” Sam turned his laptop around towards both Dean and you, the three of you exchanging looks.

Going Home
Pairing: Derek Morgan x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: Y/N returns early from her time off but Derek notices something's off.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1.1K
Tags/Warnings: established relationship, allusions to physical violence (sorta?)
A/N: Of course, my first Derek Morgan piece has to be extremely self-indulgent. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Your cheek still smarted, as if it had just happened. The mark across your face had faded already, but anyone observant would be able to tell.
But of course, you had to work with the most observant people. They’d probably be able to tell what you were thinking even without such obvious signs.
The only thing you were thankful for was that they were probably not back yet. If you were quick, you could slip in, leave the signed form on Hotch’s desk and be out of there without running into Penelope.
Even with that thought, you put a mask on, just to be safe.
You’d asked for the week off for personal matters and only Hotch knew you’d been called home to check on your mother. As you'd already expected, Hotch had told you to take all the time you needed. No one know how much you dreaded going back there. Not even Derek.
You didn’t care that your parents considered you a disappointment despite the fact that you were working in the most elite team in the FBI. You didn’t even care when your father had hollered that he was cutting you off, and you didn’t care that they had never once remembered your birthday or even showed up for your graduation.
You didn’t care.
All you had wanted was to stay as far away as possible.
What you really hated was the way you caved when they called. You told yourself not to go, but the tiny voice in your gut wondered if there was something up, if there was something serious going on, and if you would regret it.
And you had. You regretted going back to that horrible house to stand in the living room as they asked you for money so they could send your brother abroad.
You opened your mouth and then closed it.
What were you supposed to say? Or ask? You were dumbfounded.
When you finally found your voice again, all your emotions flowed with it, “What am I, a cash cow?”
That had only earned you a tight slap across your face. This wasn’t the first time this had happened, but you didn’t remember him ever using this much force.
At least your mother and brother looked apologetic but you were no longer that teenager who had no choice but to take all this lying down. So you’d turned right back around and headed all the way back home.
Home.
You shook your head quickly. You hadn’t meant to get so lost in your thoughts. Grabbing a pen from your desk, you quickly signed the document and headed up to Hotch’s office, leaving it on his desk before hightailing it out of there.
You’d almost made it.
Until the elevator doors opened, and you were staring back at your team.
“Hey!” The chorus of smiles and greetings echoed in your ears, a treatment that was totally different from what you’d just experienced a few hours ago at what was supposed to be home, and you felt the sting of tears as you smiled.
You stepped to the side with Hotch as the rest of the team scattered.
“Y/N, we weren’t expecting you so soon. I told you to take the time you needed.” Hotch's expression was stoic as usual but his voice was filled with concern and you didn’t miss the way his eyes raked across your face even though he could only see your eyes.
You smiled and nodded. “It's handled. I just came by to hand in the HR form since I was back in town. I’ll be here tomorrow.” You paused. “If that’s okay.”
Hotch studied you for a while more before he nodded. “Tomorrow.”
You turned away to leave before you felt someone grab your hand.
“Where do you think you're going?” Derek’s warm voice filled your ears.
You hadn’t even realized he’d been waiting.
“Hey.” You smiled. “I was gonna call you when I got home.”
Even as you spoke, your eyes darted upward. You’d been dating for a while, and the team knew, but both you and Derek had kept it pretty low-key especially around here.
“Fine, come here.” Derek said quietly, almost dragging you to his office, closing the blinds and shutting the door behind the both of you.
You blinked at him, and the frown reappeared on his face now that the both of you were alone.
“Why are you wearing a mask? Did you catch something?” He asked, his voice dropping to one of concern, the gentle tone that was reserved just for you when you were alone.
Before you could say anything, he put his hand up to feel for a temperature.
Instinctively, as if you couldn’t control your own body, you flinched. It was just a little, like you were leaning your cheek away from him but this was Derek Morgan, and he caught it.
Derek’s frown deepened.
“Derek, I…”
He didn’t say anything, merely reaching behind your ears to take off your mask.
“Derek, wait…” You tried to stop him but it was too late.
The mask slid off your face. Derek slid his hand along the side of your neck, angling your face gently toward him so that he could take a look at what you’d been hiding from him. “Let me see.”
You recognized the moment his eyes registered the mark across your face. The quiet rage that flashed in his eyes as he realized you’d been hurt, the confusion about why you hadn’t come straight to him - you recognized them all.
“What happened? Who did this?” His voice was low and you could hear the concerted effort it took for him to keep his voice steady.
You looked back at him and you sighed. “It’s nothing, Derek. It’s done.”
Derek just looked back at you quietly.
Suddenly, you didn’t feel like pretending that it was okay anymore. You stepped forward, melting into the safety of Derek's arms as he pulled you tightly into him, his arms wrapping securely around you.
“I got you.” He whispered. “No matter what.”
You just nodded, burying your face into his shoulder, even though you weren’t really supposed to do this in the office.
“I’ll tell you at home.” You mumbled.
Derek just nodded, pressing a kiss to your temple. “Alright, come on. We’re going home.”
Home.
The word bounced around your skull and you smiled, knowing that this was it. You’d always told yourself that the day the words “going home” no longer made your heart sink, you’d know.
And you knew. You didn't have a single doubt in your mind.
Derek pulled away gently, wrapping his arm around your shoulder as he led you back out of his office so the both of you could do exactly that.

Note
Just imagining little Leo toddling to find Dean one evening, he’s got his nighttime pacifier, teddy bear plushie and trusty cuddly blanket that trails behind him as he looks for his daddy as he can’t sleep and Mama is away (on a hunt, but he doesn’t know) and he finally finds Dean in his batcave watching a film but when Dean sees Leo’s little teary eyes (which are the double of his mamas) he instantly picks up his little boy and brings him over to the sofa and puts on a Batman cartoon and it doesn’t take long for Leo to doze off on his daddy’s chest and Dean falls asleep right there too, with Sam & Leo’s mama finding the two there the next morning as they come back from the hunt
did a thing
===
Dean sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.
Since you and Sam had gone on a hunt, Dean was alone here with Leo. He'd spent an hour in a bed that seemed way too big for just him before he'd resigned himself to the fact sleep was evading him. He'd gotten up and headed to what you fondly called his mancave.
The words on the pages before him were starting to swim around him and he considered closing the book. Then, there was a sniffle that reached his ears.
Dean glanced toward the door.
Leo stood right before the threshold, his teddy trailing along beside him as he held one of the bear's arms, and his tiny comfort blanket sweeping the floor behind him.
His eyes swam with a hint of tears as he sniffled. "Daddy?"
"Hey buddy, what are you doing up?" Dean shifted his demeanor, heading straight for the door to put his son into his arms.
"Can't sleep. No Mama and Daddy." His voice was soft, with a tinge of sadness, and Dean realized he must have gone to the bedroom looking for one of you. "Sleep with Daddy?" Leo continued.
Dean couldn't help the way the corner of his lips tugged upward in a smile as he brought Leo over to the couch. "Of course you can sleep with me."
Dean put on a cartoon, which ironically enough was Batman. He was a little worried it would keep Leo up, but it barely took five minutes in Dean's arms before his eyelids drooped downward sleepily as he cuddled into his father's embrace.
===
The sun was barely peeking through the clouds when you and Sam got back. "I'm gonna peek in on Leo." You told Sam.
"I'll get the coffee going." Sam responded.
You walked quietly toward Leo's room, pausing when you noticed the door left open and his empty bed. You felt your heart sink and you quickly headed back to the room you shared with Dean.
Nothing.
Consciously pushing down the panic that threatened to wash over you, you headed back out. "Sam, they're not here."
"What?" Sam responded, hurrying out of the kitchen. "That's not..."
The both of you paused at the entrance to the mancave you'd set up for Dean.
Finally, the panic seemed to die down as you finally laid eyes on them.
There was a smile in Sam's voice. "I'll go grab some breakfast."
"Thanks, Sam." You responded, fully aware Sam meant to give the three of you some space.
You turned back to look at them. Leo was cradled in Dean's arms, his teddy tucked comfortably under his chin. Dean had his arms still protectively around Leo's tiny body even though he was fast asleep. Both of their chests rising and falling in tandem.
"Hey you." Dean greeted sleepily, his voice still coarse from grogginess.
"Hey you back." You responded softly, climbing gently onto the couch next to him, careful not to wake Leo.
Dean smiled, pulling his free arm around you. "All okay?"
"Never better." You responded with a smile, settling right next to your boys.

Safe Space
Pairing: Matt Casey x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: After a bad day, Y/N returns home to her very own safe space.

Word Count: 800+

A/N: Written for my best girl @seatsbythepit, I hope you like this!
MATT CASEY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Days like these were the worst.
It was bad enough you’d had to cover for people who weren’t pulling their own weight in the team. But of course, like they said, bad things came in threes. At least it was never just one thing.
Everything that seemed to go wrong, did. Then, there came the finger pointing, the backstabbing, and your boss’ yelling.
You were practically drained by the time the office was emptying out.
Yet, the universe didn’t seem to be ready to let you off for the day.
You’d passed a cafe on your way back, grabbing an ice cream on a whim, hoping that your mood would have improved by the time you saw Matt that evening. You weren’t crazy about ending the day on a less than happy note, and you hated making Matt feel down with you as well.
You’d just taken two steps down the street with the ice cream in your hand when a guy had rushed past, practically crashing into you.
The force sent you stumbling at least three steps backward, and you’d barely managed to stay upright but your ice cream had ended up top down on the street.
“Would you at least watch where you’re going!” The guy yelled.
On any other day you might have ignored him, but you’d had more than enough unreasonable people in your face for the day.
“You bumped into me.” You responded, keeping your voice as even as you could. “And that’s my ice cream you knocked out of my hand.”
The man glared at you, flashing a rude sign at you and muttering about how you were lucky he was in a rush before he continued his way down the street.
That only served to worsen your mood but you headed home anyway, feeling the fatigue of the day start to hit you.
You stood outside the door of the apartment you shared with Matt for just a minute. You weren’t sure if Matt was already home. He wasn’t on shift today but he’d been working on a construction project and hadn’t been sure of his timing.
Just in case, you steadied your emotions as best as you could before you opened the door.
Matt was indeed home, and he heard you the moment the door opened.
“Hey babe!” You heard his voice first, before he appeared before you, leaning in to give you a welcome home kiss. “You’re a little later than usual.”
You smiled back at Matt, feeling your emotions stabilize a little just by seeing him standing in front of you. “Yeah, I just took a little detour to pick up some things.”
Your words sounded lame as you heard them, but even so, you thought you’d handled it pretty well, considering.
Matt, however, seemed to pick up on everything. The look in your eyes, the tone in your voice, or the smile that didn’t fully reach your eyes.
Matt's brows furrowed, just a little. “Y/N?”
You weren’t sure what it was that caused the prick of tears. Maybe it was the soft tone of Matt’s voice, or just the fact that Matt was standing right in front of you.
“Yeah, I’m…” You couldn’t even finish your sentence before Matt pulled you into his arms, your face fitting snugly into his shoulder.
That was all it took before you were a mess, the frustrations of the day seeming to flow out with each tear that soaked into Matt’s shirt.
Matt didn’t ask you anything, merely holding you tight against him.
When your shoulders stopped shaking, Matt spoke, “We’ve got pasta and I can pop out the wine that Kelly brought the last time he was here.”
You smiled through the residual tears. “Sounds perfect.”
That’s how you and Matt ended up on the couch after the meal, the plates forgotten in the dishwasher as you cuddled into his side. The television was on, but you weren’t really paying attention, your head laying on Matt’s chest, close enough that you could hear the regular thump of his heart.
“You want to talk about it?” Matt asked quietly, adjusting the quilt he’d draped over you earlier.
You shrugged but told him anyway, starting to feel a little stupid about your mini meltdown.
“It’s not really a big deal, I don’t know why…”
“Hey.” Matt interrupted you. “If it's a big deal to you, it's a big deal."
You didn’t say anything, merely scooting closer.
Matt’s arm tightened around you. “But I’m glad you know I’m here. No matter what.”
That’s when it hit you, the realization of what had caused the onslaught of tears. The only place you could let go, be yourself and allow your emotions to take over was your safe place.
“Thank you Matt.” You whispered quietly, almost to yourself.
Matt pressed a kiss to the crown of your head. “I love you too.” He responded.
This was indeed your very own safe place - Matthew Casey.

DEAN WINCHESTER MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Dean paused just as he was about to step out of the library.
He’d been so caught up with everything - seeing you, you showing up with a kid in your arms that was almost a carbon copy of him, processing the fact that he had a son in the first place, and everything else in between he hadn’t really thought about this next part.
Dean could hear him laughing, which seemed to have the opposite intended effect.
“Dean?”
Your voice seemed to shake him out of the thoughts that were swirling in his head and he looked at you.
You paused when you saw the look in Dean’s eyes. It was almost foreign, a look that you might have seen before but didn’t see too often and it took you a moment before you realized what it was.
“He’s your son, of course he’ll like you.” You said quietly, reading his mind with absolute ease. “Come on.”
You gently pushed Dean out of the library.
Sam had put Leo onto the table right in the front and Leo was spinning his mini Impala around, seeming to have a ball of a time all on his own.
You nodded encouragingly at Dean, who approached Leo slowly, like he didn’t want to catch him off guard.
“Hey, Leo.”
Leo tore his eyes away from his toy car to look at Dean, his eyes flicking toward you.
You smiled and Leo took that as an approval but he looked back at Dean, blinking without saying anything.
“So you like cars, huh? That’s a cool one.” Dean continued, reaching out for another one that was sitting off by the side.
Dean warmed him up a little, playing with Leo, driving the toy cars around him, complete with sound effects. You watched, feeling your heart warm up, and you even felt the prick of tears.
“Actually, I have one just like that. Do you wanna see?” Dean asked.
Leo’s head snapped upward before he turned his body toward you.
You smiled and nodded at him. “You wanna go take a look?”
Leo nodded eagerly and you chuckled.
“Go ahead.” You smiled.
Dean gently reached out toward Leo, as if he was asking for permission and with barely any hesitation, Leo was climbing into Dean’s arms, eager to go.
Dean smiled, feeling the weight of the tiny guy in his arms as he hoisted Leo upward, before taking him out toward the garage.
“Car!” Leo yelled triumphantly as soon as he saw her.
“You know a good one when you see it don’t you?” Dean chuckled, supporting Leo on one arm before reaching to open the door of the Impala.
Dean reached in so he could put Leo right at the driver’s seat, which only served to thrill Leo even more. Leo looked around the car, his small body bouncing a little as he looked around, his own tiny Impala still clutched in his hand tightly.
As Dean watched him, he could already see it - working on the car with Leo, showing Leo everything he loved about Baby and more. And as that image pressed itself into Dean’s mind, Dean couldn’t help but feel a little worried about what the future held for them.
But he didn't have much space to overthink or worry as his attention was once again overtaken by Leo's yells of "vroom vroom", a direct echo of the sound effects Dean had made for him when they'd been inside.
The weather was a little chilly so Dean leaned toward Leo in the car.
“Hey buddy, let’s go back inside for today, alright?” Dean said gently.
Leo glanced back up at him, and Dean smiled. “Maybe we can go on a drive next time, what do you say?”
“Drive?” Leo asked.
Dean nodded with a smile and Leo reached out for Dean almost too naturally.
As Dean brought Leo back in, he couldn’t tear his eyes away from you, where you sat next to Sam, your eyes twinkling as you looked at Leo.
“Mama, we stay?” Leo asked.
Dean didn’t miss the way you froze, your eyes flicking to him, before you averted your eyes again and looked at Leo, as if you didn’t know how to answer him.
On impulse, fueled by a very real fear that he’d lose both you and Leo if you walked out that door again, he stepped right up to you. Leo, as if he could feel Dean’s emotions, put his small two-year-old arm around your neck, looping the three of you together.
There was a small silence, that was significantly less awkward than the silence you and Dean had shared in the library an hour earlier.
Dean then reached out for your hand and squeezed gently. “Stay.”
“I’m not going to lose you again. Not for anything in the world.” Dean added, after a short pause.
You smiled at Dean. “Yeah, we’re staying with Daddy and Uncle Sammy.”
Dean leaned in to give you a quick kiss, and as you stepped to the side to welcome the hug from Sam, Dean lifted Leo onto his shoulders, the bunker filled with his gleeful giggles.

Dean dressing himself up as Batman and Leo as Robin 🥺
You raised your eyebrows as you walked in.
"I thought you said you were done with Halloween." You asked, a slight smile playing on your lips as you looked back at Dean, dressed as Batman, cape and all.
Triumphantly, Dean grinned, hoisting his son up to sit on his shoulder, the tinge of yellow under Leo's Robin cape flashing at you.
"It's us Mama!" Leo yelled triumphantly. "Daddy's Batman!"
You laughed, nodding as Dean let Leo down and your tiny Robin made a dash for you.
"Leo?" You answered, in mock surprise, putting down the tray you'd brought out of the kitchen and propping him up in your arms.
Leo giggled and you exchanged a smile with Dean.
"Well, I hope Batman and Robin are not too full for pie."
Amidst Leo's excited squirms, Dean leaned in with a soft kiss and you just smiled quietly against his touch, marveling at how far the three of you had come.

Pairing: Dean Winchester x Reader
Requested: Yes, by anon
Summary: Sam gets an unexpected call from Y/N, which brings another surprise for Dean

Word Count: 2.7K

DEAN WINCHESTER MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Sam frowned, glancing at his phone where it was lighting up with an incoming call from a number he didn’t know.
Not many people had this number, so he picked up warily, as Dean looked up.
“Hello?”
There was a short silence on the other end of the line before a familiar voice reached his ears.
“Sam?”
Sam froze.
“Y/N?”
Dean sat up straighter, his eyes flicking toward his brother but Sam wasn’t paying attention.
It had been more than 2 years since you’d left and not a day had gone by that Dean didn’t blame himself for it. Sometimes, when he lay in bed at night, the last fight still haunted him - the look in your eyes when those hurtful words had cut across the room, the defeated sound in your voice as you looked him in the eyes and told him that if that’s what he thought of you, there was no point to all this.
After you left, he’d spent too many days staring at your name in his lists of contacts, his thumb hovering over the call button. The days ticked by, and soon it was way too late for Dean to call or reach out so he was left with replaying the last conversation you’d ever had like he needed to torture himself to make up for the hurt.
“Where are you?” Sam’s voice pulled Dean out of his thoughts and he frowned. That was never a good sign.
Sam spoke in a low voice before he nodded and hung up.
Dean stared at his younger brother as Sam stood, pausing as his eyes flicked toward Dean who was watching intently.
“Dean, she…”
Dean nodded, his eyes flicking back downward. “Yeah, I don’t blame her.”
“Look, why don’t you help from here, alright? I’ll make sure she’s alright.” Sam said, although he knew it must be killing Dean.
“Yeah, just let me know what you need,” Dean responded, failing to hide the slight dejection in his voice as Sam left.
Tumblr media
“Sammy.”
His name flowed off your lips the moment you opened the door, feeling familiar yet foreign at the same time. Yet, it was really good to see him.
Sam just smiled, enveloping you in a tight hug the way only an older brother would. “It’s good to see you.”
You nodded, smiling.
“You flying solo?” Sam asked, frowning.
You shook your head. “I’m not hunting. Not really. We were just passing through and I wanted to just run, but I… I couldn’t. Now, my friend’s sister is missing and I just…”
Sam raised an eyebrow. “Wait. We?”
You gave him a guilty smile. “That’s why I called.” You paused before continuing. “And why I asked you to come alone. I didn’t think I should surprise Dean out here.”
Sam gave you a confused look and you exhaled slowly.
Without saying anything more, you led Sam into the room, as his eyes fell upon a two-year-old kid. A kid who was unmistakably Dean’s son as he gripped a miniature Impala car in his hand where he was sitting on the ground.
Sam looked at you in surprise.
You nodded. “This is Leo.”
Tumblr media
It was probably a Winchester thing but Leo took to Sam almost immediately despite the fact he never let anyone else but you carry him for the past two years.
You remembered how he’d wail in the doctor's or nurse’s arms but he seemed perfectly content sitting in Uncle Sammy’s arms now, playing with Sam’s hair.
“I was gonna get a friend to watch him, but if he likes you so much…”
Sam looked at you like you were crazy. “You’re not going alone.”
You exhaled slowly and nodded, like you’d already expected this answer from him.
Instead, Sam asked to review the information you had. It felt almost like the good old days, as you watched Sam pore over the notes you had at the small desk at the motel, the only thing different being that Dean wasn’t here and you had a two-year-old who’d fallen asleep in your arms.
You knew Sam was planning to call Dean when he left to get dinner but you pretended like you didn’t, busying yourself with preparing Leo’s meal.
When Sam returned with food for the both of you, you glanced at him and he nodded. “Yeah, I called Dean. Look, you know the research there is helpful. It won’t hurt.”
You shrugged. “I didn’t say anything.”
Sam glanced up at you. “What’s the plan, Y/N? Why didn’t you tell him? Or me?”
You glanced over your shoulder at where Leo was sleeping soundly and sighed softly. “I don’t know. I guess… I guess Dean and I never really had the talk. I didn’t know where he stood with regards to having kids, especially in this life.”
You paused, looking up at Sam momentarily before continuing. “Besides, we’d broken up. I thought he’d try to come and get me but… well, he didn’t. By the time I found out I was pregnant, too much time had passed and I didn’t know how to tell him.”
Sam nodded quietly, letting you continue.
“But I got out. I didn’t let Leo into this part of our life. Until today. And I hate it that he’s here when there’s a nest of fucking vamps right here. I didn’t…”
Sam reached out and squeezed your shoulder. “You were right to call. No matter what, it never hurts to have someone looking out for you.”
You smiled. “Well, I’m glad it’s you…”
“And Dean. Sorta.” You added after a small silence.
The conversation was cut short by Sam’s phone and he quickly answered it. “Anything good?”
You could hear the crackle of Dean’s voice and you felt your heart give a jolt. A jolt that didn’t exactly surprise you. Of course, how could you ever get over Dean Winchester?
You could vaguely hear Dean giving Sam some additional information before Sam hung up, glancing at you.
“You sure about this, Y/N?”
You glanced at Leo before nodding. You planted a firm kiss on Leo’s head, nodding to your friend, Samantha.
“Don’t worry. Sam’s great at what he does. We’ll figure this out.”
She nodded back at you, assuring you that Leo was in safe hands.
Tumblr media
It was your first hunt in a long while, but being a hunter seemed to already be a part of your DNA.
Armed with the information that Dean had dug up, you and Sam managed to infiltrate the nest, easily lopping heads of vampires off as they were caught off-guard. You were glad Sam was there to have your back, especially when you both made your way to the dead center of the nest.
“Sharon?” You kept your voice low.
You headed to where she was huddled in the corner. You didn’t know Sharon well but you’d met once or twice when you’d come up here to meet Samantha.
“Y/N?”
Her voice shook slightly.
You nodded. “Yeah. I promised Samantha I’d bring you home.”
Sharon looked around, her eyes flicking to a dead body lying to the side. “They’re…”
You shook your head at Sharon. “Sharon, look at me. We’re going to get you home alright? Trust me.”
“Come on, Y/N.” Sam urged gently.
Of course, you knew hunts never went that smoothly.
A growl alerted you that a vamp had joined you and your body stiffened, the grip on the machete in your hand tightening.
“Sam, get her out of here.”
“Y/N.” Sam’s voice was stressed and you recognized it, the struggle between leaving you here and taking Sharon to safety.
“I’ll be fine.” You assured him, glancing back at the new arrival.
Sam didn’t answer but you knew the exact moment when he took Sharon and left, their footsteps seeming to echo as they got further away.
“You hunters are the real monsters.” The vampire droned, staring at you. “Here we are, just trying to survive and you break into our home and kill my entire family.”
You tried to stifle the sarcastic laughter that was at the tip of your tongue.
“That’s rich coming from you.”
You knew it was coming before the vampire twitched, and you swung your machete upward as he rushed toward you.
The vampire sidestepped, missing the machete by inches as it growled, even more determined to get you.
You stepped back again as it lunged at you, your heart sinking as you felt yourself lose your footing.
Fuck.
You rolled out of the way but the vampire was too quick, pouncing upon you.
You raised your machete but it was too close, the machete inching closer toward you as the vampire bared its fangs at you.
You held onto a single thought. You had to get home to Leo.
Then, as if by sheer willpower, the unmistakable sound of a blade swishing through the air before the vampire’s head rolled off its shoulders.
“Dean?”
Tumblr media
Dean had lasted all of five minutes after the last call with Sam before he’d muttered a “screw this” to himself and torn his way out of the bunker and down to where Sam and you were.
You were still stunned as Dean rolled what was left of the vampire off you and helped you up.
“You alright? Are you hurt?” Dean’s eyes studied you, unable to differentiate if the blood on you was the result of any injuries you might have sustained before he’d arrived.
You shook your head. “I’m fine.”
The atmosphere sank into awkwardness as the both of you stood there now in silence.
“Sorry, Y/N. I know you wanted me to sit this one out, but I…”
You shook your head and interrupted him. “No, I… Thanks, Dean.”
You fell back into silence, both of you walking out toward the exit to Sam.
“God, Y/N!” Sharon’s stressed voice made her way to you first but you didn’t miss the surprised look Sam gave his brother even as you were assuring Sharon you weren’t hurt.
You looked up to see Dean quietly heading to the Impala, and before you could think through your next move, you were running toward him.
“Dean.”
Dean paused and turned to look at you.
You took a deep breath. “We need to talk.”
There was a look in Dean’s eyes that sat somewhere between confusion and intrigue.
You looked down at your blood-stained clothes and smiled. “Give me a few hours and I’ll come meet you at the bunker?”
The words rolled off your tongue feeling foreign yet welcoming at the same time.
“The bunker?” Dean asked.
You shrugged. “Or wherever you guys want. If you don’t want me there.”
Dean shook his head. “That’s not what I…” He paused before continuing. “See you there.”
You watched the Impala drive off before you turned back to look at Sam, who had a small smile on his face, and you knew he’d heard everything.
Tumblr media
You’d delivered Sharon safely back to Samantha, who hadn’t asked any questions, just glad to see her sister again. and you even managed to shower and change before Leo even noticed you and Sam were gone.
Now, Sam pulled up outside the bunker and you took a deep breath.
“Ready?” Sam asked softly.
You gave a short laugh. “Never.”
You felt everything at the same time as you took Leo in your arms and walked into the bunker, the memories seeming to hit you all at once - the way this place made you feel, the laughter in your head that belonged to a memory of the three of you as you sat in Dean's embrace.
Even if this was the same place where things had ended, it was the happy memories that followed you as you walked down the stairs now.
Dean stepped out of the kitchen, freezing in his footsteps.
His eyes took in the sight before him, a kid that looked like a carbon copy of himself except for the eyes that were undoubtedly yours.
“Y/N…”
You cleared your throat and exhaled.
“Hey Leo, let’s go find you some snacks,” Sam said, reaching his hands out for Leo.
Leo cracked a smile and allowed Sam to pick him out of your arms. “Pie!”
Sam glanced over at Dean, unable to hide a chuckle. “I’m sure we have that.”
The silence that followed was almost loud as Dean looked at you in disbelief and you cleared your throat. “Let’s talk.”
Dean led the way into the library, unsure if he should be pissed or happy to see you.
You leaned against one of the tables, as Dean looked back at you.
“Sorry.” You said quietly, looking down. You knew Dean had every right to be angry and you braced yourself for the rise in his voice but nothing came.
You glanced up at him again, meeting the green eyes you’d sorely missed.
Met with Dean’s silence you spoke again. “I didn’t know how to tell you. By the time I found out about it, too much time had passed since the last time we spoke. I stared at your number but I was afraid. I…” You took another breath. “We never talked about this. I didn’t know if you’d be happy or not and I chickened out.”
“So were you never going to tell me?” Dean finally asked.
You couldn’t really determine the tone of his voice but you shook your head.
“I… I kinda was on the way here.” You said quietly.
Dean’s eyebrows shot up.
“I didn’t really have a plan.” You said. “Part of me thought if I just drove here, I wouldn’t be able to back out anymore. Then, that nest of vamps kidnapped my friend’s sister so I…”
“So you called Sam.” It was a statement.
You gave him a tentative smile. “Didn’t think you’d appreciate seeing Leo without an explanation in the middle of a hunt.”
Dean exhaled slowly.
“So what now?” Dean asked.
You didn’t dare look up at him, afraid your eyes would give you away. The eyes that screamed how you were still in love with him and that you’d missed him every single day that you’d been apart. The way your heart crumbled every time Leo smiled because it reminded you of Dean, and how all you wanted was to be enveloped in those arms again.
Even as those thoughts ran through your mind, you felt the prick of tears because this was exactly why you’d put off telling Dean about Leo.
“I don’t know, D.” You answered quietly.
Your voice cracked slightly and you hoped Dean hadn’t picked up on it.
“Y/N.” He called, forcing you to look up at him, even though the tears blurred your vision.
Dean closed the gap between the both of you, one hand cupping your face as he pressed his lips against yours, his other arm snaking around your waist and pulling you closer to him.
“God, I missed you,” Dean whispered, as he pulled away just a little, your faces still pressed together.
You buried your face into his shoulder without saying anything, feeling your tears get absorbed into the shirt he had on.
You needn’t have worried about Leo. You looked at you son clutching the tiny toy Impala while he sat in his father's arms almost triumphantly as they came back in. Dean had brought Leo to see the real thing, and Leo had a ball of a time just sitting in the Impala.
“Mama, can we stay?” Leo asked with anticipation in his voice.
You froze. Dean and you hadn’t talked about anything. He’d kissed you, you’d hugged and then you’d gotten him out of that library to meet his son.
Dean closed the gap between the two of you, putting Leo into a giant hug between the both of you before he reached out for your hand.
“Stay,” Dean said quietly.
You glanced up at him.
“I’m not going to lose you again.” Dean added, squeezing your hand gently. “Not for anything in the world.”
The words felt stuck in your throat, but you glanced at Leo and smiled. “Yeah, we’re staying with Daddy and Uncle Sammy.”
Dean leaned forward to press a quick kiss to your lips amidst Leo's triumphant yells.
Sam moved forward to press you into a hug. “Welcome home, Y/N.”

With Spencer
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: Y/N deals with the wave of anxiety that hits her after Spencer's conference
Tumblr media
Word Count: 900+
Tags/Warnings: established relationship, anxiety, insecurities
A/N: Had to get this out of my head so I wrote this on a whim, then it sat in my drafts because I was worried it sucked (still am) but @halsteadlover once again threatened to kick my ass (because that's how we communicate love) so I'm posting this. Please do not shoot me if it sucks lol.
Tumblr media
You stood off to the side of the spacious conference hall, quietly watching as people approached him after his spotlight presentation.
You’d have been able to spot him anywhere he was standing even if the place was twice as crowded as it was now.
There seemed to be something that had drawn you to him almost automatically since the first time you met, and he seemed to emit a glow that only you could see.
Spencer raised his head slightly, his eyes locking onto yours effortlessly, and he smiled softly at you before his attention was drawn back to the person next to him.
You couldn’t help the small smile that flit across your face, accompanied by the familiar flutter in your gut that only Spencer managed to make you feel.
At the same time, a darker swirl of insecurity seemed to rise up to meet the innocent butterfly flitting around in your stomach.
It wasn’t new. This feeling of being inadequate next to Spencer, the feeling that he was made for greater things and that maybe somehow you were holding him back. It was totally irrational but the thought still greeted you once in a while. Sometimes it reared its head when he made a joke that you didn’t totally get or when he started rambling and you lost him halfway. But even if that wasn’t it, personally watching him stand up in front of an entire conference hall and deliver facts and research you didn’t fully grasp would definitely do it.
You didn’t know how long you stood there, lost in your thoughts while trying to keep the dark swirl of anxiety as controlled as possible.
“Sorry, I didn’t expect to take so long.”
His voice pulled you out of your thoughts and you smiled back at him, although the look in his eyes told you that he knew something was up.
Spencer didn’t ask, merely smiling as he let you lead the way out of the hall and to the car.
It was about halfway through the car ride back that you realized you’d been a little too quiet. But that realization was too late.
“You okay?” Spencer asked quietly.
You looked up into his hazel eyes and tried a smile.
Spencer didn’t say anything, his eyes flicking back to the road before he made a deviation in his route and you raised your eyebrows.
“Caffeine replenish.” He said quietly, as if he could read your mind.
You watched Spencer as he stood at the counter, letting the intrusive thought of ‘maybe coming with him wasn’t such a great idea’ creep into your head.
When Spencer had asked if you wanted to come, all you’d thought about had been how happy you were that he wanted you there, and about how you’d take any extra time you could spend with Spencer before work whisked him away again.
You wondered if you would still have come if you’d known how you would be feeling now. Yet, something told you that you would have. Nothing would have deterred you from time with Spencer.
That thought was merely reinforced when Spencer slid into the seat opposite you, armed with your favorite coffee order.
After a short silence, Spencer broke it. "You okay?"
You nodded, then you shrugged realizing how futile it was to try to hide your emotions from your profiler boyfriend who was sitting opposite you.
You looked back down at your coffee, and sighed.
“You were amazing today, Spence. Really amazing.”
Spencer smiled back at you, the shy smile that seemed to be reserved just for you and you felt your heart flutter once again.
“You are amazing. And I just… well, I’m not.”
Spencer blinked back at you.
“Actually, recent studies have shown that couples are indeed more likely to be similar than different, but it also shows that other than similarities, complementary skills and features are just as important…” He paused mid-sentence. “I’m rambling again, right?”
You couldn’t help but crack a smile.
“What I’m saying is, you are amazing.” Spencer concluded.
Now, it was your turn to blink back at him.
“You have no idea. I can explain a lot of things, Y/N. But I can’t explain this. I can’t explain why we fit together like the last two pieces of a puzzle that didn’t seem likely but are actually the only two pieces that are supposed to be together. We just are.”
You ran your finger across the rim of your mug and Spencer reached out for your hand, taking it and playing gently with your fingers, almost like a habit.
“We are meant to be, crazy as that sounds coming from me.” Spencer laughed as he said it.
You let out a small chuckle.
“So don’t…” Spencer said, his voice dropping lower just slightly as his voice trailed off.
You glanced up now, unable to miss the crack of slight insecurity in his voice and you realized he was just as scared as you were.
Spencer smiled. "See? Similarity."
Sliding your hand out of his grasp momentarily, you made your way to sit by him in the small corner booth, sitting as close as you could before you slipped your hand back into his.
“I could never.” You whispered, in response to the sentence Spencer hadn't been able to bring himself to finish.
Spencer didn’t answer, just leaned toward you, taking your face gently in his hands as he pressed his lips against yours, almost like he was sealing a deal. You smiled against his touch, pulling closer to him, before you nuzzled your face into the crook of his neck.
The dark swirl was still there in the pit of your stomach, although it was slightly muted, but somehow but it didn’t matter because Spencer was here as well.
And as long as you had Spencer, the dark swirl had nothing on you.

Low Effort
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: Y/N gets a surprise visit, which triggers some unpleasant symptoms
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1k+
Tags/Warnings: mentions of stomach cramps, slight allusion to anxiety, negative emotions
A/N: Long time no see! This is a thing I needed to get off my chest and needed to get the emotions out, so it’s just some Jay comfort/fluff. Also, a warning that I haven’t written in so long, this kind of feels a bit meh, so I hope I haven’t lost too much of my writing touch LOL
JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You closed your laptop shut, just as your phone lit up with a notification about a new message from Jay.
Sorry, got held up. 10 minutes. Tops.
You smiled, typing a quick response of acknowledgment to tell him not to hurry before you got up, grabbing your bag. You were too fried to continue anything else so you figured you would just go and wait for him. Fresh air was better than whatever was coming through the office vents.
As the glass doors of the main entrance on the first floor slid open and you felt the chill of the Chicago winds hit your face, you sighed. Fresh air was definitely better.
“Y/N.”
You glanced up, your eyebrows naturally bunching together at the sound of a woman’s voice.
As your eyes met hers, you froze for a moment, your brain still processing the fact that she was here.
“Amy?” Her name slipped past your lips before you could stop yourself, even though the only emotion you were feeling at this moment was surprise. There was nothing positive or negative about it.
Amy could feel it in your voice as well. “Can we talk? I’ve missed you.”
You frowned as a cramp shot through your lower abdomen.
“I thought we were better friends than this. Low-maintenance, remember?” Amy said, and you could hear the tone in her voice, the one she used when she was upset or disappointed.
The feeling of indignation shot through you once again.
“Yeah, low maintenance, not low effort.”
Your voice was low but you didn’t let the emotion sway it. You spent years telling yourself that it was just a low-maintenance friendship, that you were both just busy, but you couldn’t ignore the way she’d reappear in front of you only when she needed your support, or when the guy she was seeing was out of town.
You glanced up at the street but hadn’t seen Jay’s car yet.
You exhaled. “Look, Amy. You have your priorities, I get it. Just don’t expect me to drop mine when you blow back into town or when your boyfriend doesn’t have time for you. It doesn’t work that way.”
You felt the cramps intensify and knew what it was. You called it “emotional cramps” with Jay, joking that as long as he kept you happy you’d be fine. Yet, here they were again. Maybe it was because you hadn’t had them in a while, you felt them more intensely now.
You put a hand on your stomach as you looked up at Amy. As expected, she had an indignant look on her face.
“How could you say that, Y/N? I know the fact that I was seeing Trevor was a sore spot with you because you weren’t seeing anyone so I didn’t want to make things harder for you. But now…”
You couldn't even respond as the pain ripped through you once again and you bent forward slightly, your knees buckling a little. You braced yourself for the impact of your knees hitting the concrete sidewalk when you felt his arms around you.
“Babe, what’s wrong?”
Jay.
Amy seemed stunned for a moment before she spoke again, “It must be her…”
“Why’s it acting up?” Jay asked, his entire focus on you as you glanced up at him and quietly shook your head.
Jay glanced up at Amy. They didn’t know each other since you’d met Jay sometime after contact between you and Amy had dwindled to almost nothing. By the time you and Jay had started dating, you’d made up your mind to let go of Amy and this friendship, and it had merely nagged at you a little at the back of your mind from time to time so you hadn’t brought her up.
“Come on, we’re going to Med,” Jay said quietly, pulling you upright.
You glanced at him. “Don’t you dare carry me,” You warned.
Despite the worried look in his eyes, Jay smiled. “We’re going to Will.” He repeated, almost like he was daring you to argue.
You didn’t argue. Partly because all you wanted to do was get out of there but partly because you knew it was useless. Besides, the pain was more intense than you remembered.
Without a second glance back, Jay helped you into the car and drove off, both of you leaving Amy still standing on the sidewalk.
Tumblr media
You knew what had triggered the attack, so after getting medication for the pain and cramping, you’d been feeling much better.
“You know I’d be feeling even better if you would stop hovering, Detective.” You said, directing the comment at your boyfriend.
Will smiled as he tapped on the iPad in his hand and glanced at his brother. “She’s fine. Her tests are normal, and it was probably just a one-off stress-related attack.”
You nodded. “I’ll follow up with my therapist, I promise.”
Will ruffled your hair affectionately and you growled because he knew you hated it.
“I’ll get the discharge started.”
Jay was quiet as he leaned over you, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead. “You sure you’re okay?”
You nodded, before you glanced back down.
“Amy’s an old friend.” You said, after a while. "At least, she was."
Jay didn’t say anything, so you continued, telling him about how Amy was when she started dating anyone, and it only progressively got worse. “And it’s not about seeing her often, you know? It’s just…”
Jay nodded. “You didn’t feel like she cared.”
You sighed quietly. “I just… it got to a point where I realized she didn’t care. I was a friend when she needed me, and when she didn’t, I just… didn’t exist. And apparently, to her, that’s me being sore.”
Jay just took your hand in his, gently stroking your fingers.
“But I just realized it was better to have no one than to be treated that way, so I just…”
“You don’t have to explain anything to me,” Jay said quietly. “Listen, someone who gives you low effort doesn’t deserve you. I don’t care who they are. Anyone who makes you feel this way doesn’t deserve even one percent of you.”
You looked up at him and smiled, a little sadness hidden behind it.
“I guess seeing her today just brought it all back, you know? And then it triggered all those emotions and then my stomach cramps decided to join the party.” You made a face.
Jay smiled quietly back at you. “But you know what? You’re not alone. At least not anymore.”
You smiled and leaned forward for a hug. Jay perched by the edge of the bed, pulling you gently into his arms and you buried your face into his shoulders, feeling his arms encircle your entire body.
“I know.” You whispered.
Jay kissed the top of your head. “Good.”

Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Requested: no
Summary: Jay notices something is wrong with Y/N's mood over the phone
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1.5K+
Tags/Warnings: mentions of (workplace) harassment
A/N: I know I haven't written in months so starting off slow/small to see if maybe I haven't lost my touch... also @halsteadlover may have threatened me to post this.
JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You glanced at the last message Jay had sent you a few hours earlier and smiled.
You got this.
Three simple words that somehow warmed your heart even though you were miles away in another city.
You rarely had to travel for work even though you’d worked as a translator at this company for some time. You mostly dealt with inbound foreign clients who came to Chicago but this time, they’d needed a translator for a conference outside Chicago and you were the only available one. Thankfully, it wasn’t too far so you didn’t even have to take a flight and the company had arranged for a car for you to get there.
Which was all too well, since Jay had also had his hands full and had to go undercover for a few days.
So it was even more heartwarming to see the message from Jay when you hadn’t really been expecting a reply.
Even though you had only seen the message after the conference, it still felt comforting to feel the last dredges of work nerves and anxiety leave your system.
“Y/N, come on.” One of your colleagues from another team called out to you and you stuffed your phone back into your pocket, before following her toward the private room of the restaurant where you were all supposed to be having dinner with a huge client.
You didn’t even like having social dinners with people you weren’t close with, not to mention dinners like this.
Dinner had barely started when you were proven right.
“Thanks to your team, the conference went very well.” The client smiled, looking around. “Of course, we have to thank Y/N for ensuring all communication went smoothly.”
You’d just smiled when you felt his hand slide onto yours from under the table and the smile froze on your face.
Instinctively, you pulled your hand away, bringing your hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear and grabbing your jacket from behind you and draping it around you, smiling.
“Just doing my job, Mr. Saunders.”
You saw the look on his face and knew he’d taken offense, ridiculous as it was.
You chose to ignore it, pretending like nothing had happened. After all, he’d probably have gotten the hint.
He hadn’t.
The client made a few more passes at you - a hand on your knee, trying to take your hand again, and the most outrageous one was holding up food to feed you in front of everyone.
The action wasn’t lost on everyone who was there but no one spoke up.
You swallowed. “I’ll help myself.”
It was like something snapped in him and he glanced at you coldly and said, “Guess if you’re not hungry, you should go out and wait for everyone to finish.”
You glanced helplessly at your team manager who gave you a look to ask you not to make things worse than they already were.
You gritted your teeth but bit back any sort of response, getting up and leaving the room, a mix of anxiety, humiliation, self-doubt, and every other negative emotion swirling in the pit of your stomach.
Tumblr media
Jay sighed, stretching as he sat up from the couch.
The apartment was uncharacteristically quiet since you were away for work.
Jay looked up at the clock. It was slightly past 10 which was weird because he hadn’t heard back from you.
Getting up to get himself a glass of water, Jay glanced at his messages before he decided he’d try and call. Even if you were still with your colleagues, you could probably still answer the phone since the conference was over.
There were two rings before you answered.
“Hey, still having fun with your colleagues?”
There was a slight pause before you answered.
“Jay.”
Jay frowned, immediately picking up on the fact that something was wrong.
“Y/N? What’s going on? You okay?”
Jay’s voice was gentle and so comforting, you felt the prick of tears again.
You cleared your throat. Honestly, crying on the street in the middle of the night was the last thing you wanted to do. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Have you eaten?” Jay’s worried voice sounded through the phone.
You smiled to yourself even as a tear escaped and slid down your cheek.
“Yeah, told you there was good food waiting for me after the conference.”
“Y/N, what’s wrong?” Jay pressed.
You shook your head even though he couldn’t see you. “I’m fine. I just… miss you.” You managed to keep your voice steady.
“I’ll come and get you,” Jay answered.
“Jay, it’s late and you probably haven’t had enough sleep for the past few days. I’ll take the earliest bus out to Chicago tomorrow.”
You heard the reluctance in his voice even though he agreed and after reassuring him not to worry, you hung up.
The wind felt even colder now as you sat by the side of the road, your carrier bag sitting next to you.
Technically you had another night at the hotel but you hadn’t felt like staying there for even a second longer. Other than the fact that the client knew exactly which room you were in, your team manager had left a message for you berating you for how you’d handled the situation which made you even more disgusted than you already were.
You didn’t know how long you sat there but as you felt it turn colder you thought you should get up and maybe find somewhere else to sit for the night. You didn’t care if you had to sit up all night at a 24-hour cafe but you weren’t going back to the hotel.
You’d barely gotten to your feet, reaching for your carrier when a familiar truck pulled up right before you.
You froze, as Jay appeared right before you like magic.
“Jay… you…”
Jay’s green eyes appeared even brighter than usual as he looked at you with a mix of exasperation and worry. “I came to take you home.”
You’d clearly been sitting out here for longer than you thought, but it didn't matter because when Jay finished speaking you felt the tears well up in your eyes as the security that Jay always made you feel flooded through your entire body and finally gave you enough courage to cry.
Jay stepped forward, wordlessly enveloping you into his arms.
You dissolved into sobs as you felt his arms around you and he pressed you gently into his embrace, his hand over the back of your head protectively. Jay didn’t say anything, just standing there quietly with you in his arms until your sobs gently died down.
"I…”
Jay pressed his lips against your temple and whispered, “Let’s go home.”
Jay didn’t ask you anything on the way home, and you must have fallen asleep because the next thing you knew Jay was pulling into the parking lot in front of your building and your stomach gave a tiny rumble as Jay killed the engine.
You glanced at him and Jay just let out a chuckle.
“Come on, I’ll order us a pizza and you can get comfortable.”
Tumblr media
By the time you got out of the shower, the pizza was here and you got comfortable on the sofa as Jay handed you a slice and curled in next to you.
You didn’t say anything and Jay didn’t push you as you finished your first slice before you glanced up at him.
“I’m sorry.” You said in a low voice.
Jay raised an eyebrow.
“You must be exhausted.” You added.
There was a silence which made you look up and you felt the rare surge of insecurity from not being able to read the look on Jay’s face.
“Did you think I’d be able to go to sleep when I could hear how upset you were?” Jay said quietly. “Y/N, listen. You don’t have to worry about asking me to go out of my way for you. In fact, if it was possible, I hope you’d always do it. I’d go to the moon and back for you if you needed me to.”
You felt the tears well up in your eyes again, this time from an overwhelming feeling of being loved by someone.
Jay just quietly pressed his lips against your temple.
You leaned into him, the rest of the pizza slices forgotten on the table.
“Will you tell me what happened?”
You bit your lip, sitting up a little before you recounted what had happened that night as vaguely as possible, with bare details.
Even so, you could literally hear Jay grinding his teeth beside you.
You glanced at him. “Jay.”
“I’ll kill him. I will literally break his hands.”
You snuggled back into his side. “No, you won’t.” You mumbled. “But I needed to hear that.”
Jay sighed and pulled you tighter against him. “You did the right thing, you know that right? No matter what anyone says.”
You nodded without looking up and Jay patted the back of your head gently, ruffling your hair gently in the process.
You leaned deeper into Jay’s embrace before turning your head up gently to glance at him.
Jay smiled and leaned down to press his lips gently against yours. The negative feelings of the entire night were long gone because you were right where you belonged - home with Jay.

A/N: Okay, I know I am the worst, I am sorry! I had to take an extended break from writing in general, and then I had to get back into the groove of this but here's an update! I realize I should have updated this eons ago but too many things have happened! Anyway, let me know what you think if you can!
SERIES MASTERLIST || DEAN WINCHESTER MASTERLIST
Chapter 4 || Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Sam headed straight for the guidance counselor’s office, picking the lock and slipping into the room quietly.
He looked around before heading for a chest of drawers, rifling through the files and trying to find a Sarah Smith. “Hello, Sam?” Sam muttered to himself before closing the drawer. If there was anything to hide, the file wouldn’t be in an unlocked drawer.
He glanced around before he found what he had been looking for - a locked drawer tucked under the desk, almost invisible to anyone who didn’t know it was there, or who wasn’t looking for it.
“Come on.” He muttered to himself as he picked at the lock, taking longer than he’d expected, glancing up periodically.
Sam quickly rifled through the contents, finding a bunch of papers and spreading them all out onto the table that was in front of him, his eyes scanning as quickly as he could. There was something weird about all the papers laid out here in front of him now.
Sam bent down to look back in the drawer, noticing something small that must have dropped out of the bunch of papers when he’d taken them out and he frowned as he picked it up.
It looked like a handmade bracelet, one of those things that teenagers liked to make with their friends, but he didn’t have long to dwell on it.
Sam stuffed the bracelet into his pocket, but before he could pick up the notes, his head snapped up at a sound.
“What the hell are you doing in here?”
Crap, too late.
Tumblr media
“Y/N!” Dean yelled, watching you crumple to the ground just before the blinds fell, which only made Dean more nervous.
“Damn it!” Dean yelled, long forgetting that they’d sneaked in as he yelled. “Y/N!”
Dean threw his weight against the door but it wouldn’t budge. The unease settling in the pit of Dean’s stomach was new and kind of confusing, but right now all Dean could think of was getting through that door.
Dean threw himself against the door one last time, muttering to himself that he’d shoot the door down if he had to when the door creaked open and Dean tumbled through.
“What the hell…” Dean muttered but snapped his head up at where you were lying crumpled on the floor just a few feet away.
“Y/N!” Dean scrambled up and towards you, barely touching your arm before your eyes flew open.
“Y/N?”
You blinked, looking up at Dean before you looked wildly around the room. Dean shook his head. “She’s gone.” He said, bending down next to you.
“Are you okay? Are you hurt?” Dean demanded.
You exhaled. “Dean.”
“What is it, Y/N?” Dean looked worried, as he peered at you.
“We got a problem. We gotta go get Sam.”
Tumblr media
Sam didn’t have an excuse for being here. His FBI badge wasn’t going to get him out of this one, that much he knew. At least he recognized the man standing in front of him now - the guidance counselor.
Sam was getting a bad hit so he really needed to make something up.
“Listen…”
But Sam didn’t have any time to get a word in as the guidance counselor pointed his gun right at Sam.
Sam exhaled as he put his hands up. “Andrew, right? Andrew Foster? Listen, I know my partner talked to you this morning. Why don’t you put down the gun, alright?”
Andrew, the guidance counselor, didn’t seem so harmless anymore. Sam narrowed his eyes, knowing there was no way he could reach for his gun without first getting shot but waiting around for you and Dean seemed a bit of a long shot, especially if the both of you were held up dealing with the ghost.
“You found the file.”
It was a statement, not a question and Sam was once again reminded why Dean always said he’d deal with monsters any day. Humans were just crazy.
Sam didn’t respond to Andrew’s statement, instead just watching him, and with barely any prompting from Sam, Andrew started talking.
“At first, it just happened and then I found myself being drawn to her. Things just spiraled out of control.” Andrew went on while Sam was putting the pieces together in his head.
“She wanted to stop. She wanted to report me. I didn’t have a choice, she forced my hand.” Andrew finished telling the story of how he’d taken advantage of the young and vulnerable Sarah and Sam had to take a breath so that he wouldn’t punch the lights out of the armed man standing in front of him.
Sam narrowed his eyes. “So basically you’re saying a teenager turned you into a sexual predator? How many other girls were there before Sarah? Girls that didn’t have the courage Sarah had to try and stop you?” Sam internally sighed, he hadn’t been able to curb it after all. Although he couldn’t imagine what would happen if it was Dean who was standing here now instead of him.
“That, you don’t need to know. I just wanted you to know what you’re dying for.” Andrew said, pulling up his gun now.
Andrew put his hand on the trigger and Sam ground his teeth together before there was another click.
“Drop it,” Dean growled, as Andrew felt the nozzle of Dean’s gun graze the back of his neck just slightly.
Dean held the gun just slightly away from the back of the guidance counselor’s neck, like a trained professional. You remembered that class when you’d been in the academy, the one where they’d taught all of you to stay a short distance away from whichever perp you’d be arresting, so he couldn’t twist the gun out of your hands too easily. You just wanted to give a dry laugh at this very thought. If only your instructor could see you now.
You stepped to the side just a little just in case Dean needed some space, peering in and breathing a sigh of relief to see Sam was standing and looking none the worse for wear.
“I said, drop the gun. Your finger so much as twitches, I’ll blow your damn brains out.” Dean growled, his eyes flicking up to Sam.
Andrew lowered the gun now, pulling his finger away from the trigger, glancing backward as far as he could at Dean. “I knew there was something about the way you were fishing for information. Walk away and no one gets hurt.”
Dean narrowed his eyes. “Big talk for a freaking perv.”
You’d filled Dean in as much as you could while the both of you ran to get Sam. There’d been something different about this ghost, and you’d been right. She hadn’t hurt you, she’d shown you - at least enough for you to know that Andrew was dangerous.
With a sudden motion, Andrew threw himself backwards against Dean, sending both their bodies tumbling onto the floor.
“Dean!” You yelled but even though you held your gun in your hand, there was no way you could shoot, not without the danger of accidentally shooting Dean as they struggled on the floor. Sam hurried forward towards you, opening his palm to show you the friendship bracelet.
“That’s it, Sam but…”
Your voice trailed off. “Alright, I’ll handle the ghost. The two of you…”
You nodded. “I’ll get the police here. Go.”
Sam nodded, heading a little way off so he could burn what was left of Sarah’s things. No matter what, Sarah was killing people and they had to stop her.
You ran into the office now, trying not to be distracted by the sound of the fighting outside, resisting the temptation to make sure neither Dean nor Sam was hurt. Blocking out the sounds you moved behind the desk, finding the phone under the scattered pieces of paper that Sam must have been sieving through.
You picked up the receiver, glad that at least this was working, quickly dialing in the number of the detective that you’d spoken to that morning when the three of you had visited the local precinct. Normally, the three of you avoided police interaction as much as possible save for the early part of the case, but in this case, the human was definitely more dangerous than the ghost lurking around. In fact, you were pretty sure the ghost problem would be solved once Andrew was taken care of.
“Detective, it’s Agent Day. Requesting local police assistance at the school. We have a…”
You were talking fast but apparently not fast enough.
“Y/N!” You heard Dean yell, followed closely by a gunshot.
You didn’t even look up as you dropped yourself to the ground, bringing the phone down with you with a distinct crash.
There were more scuffling sounds and you peered around to check.
“Sammy!” Dean yelled and you peered out from around the huge desk in the middle of the office.
Sarah had appeared right in front of Andrew, looking definitely like the vengeful spirit the three of you had been coming to hunt in the first place. Normally, the three of you would always try to keep the supernatural away from people, guilty or not, but Dean didn’t look particularly interested in getting the ghost to back off yet, considering Andrew had almost shot Sam just a few minutes ago.
Andrew was frozen, staring terrified at the face of the girl he had murdered and Sam paused, the lit lighter in one hand, the rest of her belongings in the bin in front of him, as if he was hesitating to put this spirit to rest.
Thank you.
Sarah’s voice washed over you as you watched her eyes tick up at you and she nodded at you like she was ready. You took a breath and nodded at Sam who now dropped the lighter into the bin and she disappeared.
Dean took the opportunity to hold Andrew down, as the police now swarmed in.
“Y/N?” Dean called.
“I’m okay!” You answered, and you could even hear Dean’s sigh of relief.
Tumblr media
The police had taken Andrew into custody immediately, Sam handing them all the evidence that they needed to put him away for good. Andrew’s face was still white as a sheet and you hoped the scumbag would never forget that moment, ever.
It was only when the three of you were climbing out of the Impala back at the bunker that Dean paused, turning to peer at you.
“Y/N, what the hell, you’re bleeding.”
You glanced down at your arm, a small patch of blood that had formed on your sleeve. “Oh.”
“Oh?” Dean repeated, looking at you incredulously as his voice rose. “Were you shot?”
Sam turned back as he heard Dean’s voice rise.
“I’m fine. It doesn’t really hurt.” You answered, although it gave a stupid throb as if it needed to prove you wrong.
You scowled down at it and Dean rolled his eyes.
“I’ll get the stuff,” Sam said, disappearing into the bunker ahead of the two of you, as Dean reached out for your arm gently and led you inside.
The bullet had grazed your arm but as you had been trying to explain to both Sam and Dean, it really hadn’t hurt. Dean gave you a look as you flinched while he was cleaning your wound. “Until now. Maybe it was the adrenaline or whatever.”
“I’ll go get some food. Be back in a bit.” Sam said as Dean nodded at him, and you heard Sam leave.
There was a silence after Sam left and you tried to focus on not flinching. “Y/N, it’s okay.” Dean said in a low voice.
You looked up at him.
“You don’t have to…” He paused. “Don’t hold it back. It’s okay to show you’re in pain.”
You blinked back at him.
Dean smiled. “Yes, I know I’m not the best person to preach this, but I’m serious. It’s okay.”
You gave Dean a look. “Dean, seriously. I wasn’t holding back, alright? I seriously didn’t feel it until we got back.”
Dean sighed. “Fine, but you have to tell me if you’re hurt alright? Otherwise you’re not coming out for hunts anymore.”
You glared at him and Dean shrugged. “That’s the way it is.”
You exhaled and nodded. “Yeah, I got it.”
Dean smiled, patting your head gently as he slapped on the bandage. “That’s the only way I can protect the both of you.”
You just smiled up at him, the warmth spreading in your chest once again. “Thanks, Dean.”

JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
“Hey, you wanna grab dinner?” Will asked as he opened his locker next to you.
You glanced back at him, your eyes betraying the mental exhaustion from the day. Losing children was never easy, everyone knew that.
You gave Will a small smile. “No date with Connor?” You lightly teased.
Will chuckled.
Will and Connor had been dancing around each other for almost forever and it had taken you an unbelievable amount of self control not to literally bonk their heads together. Thankfully, they’d gotten off their asses before you had to.
“Connor got pulled into a surgery so I got stood up.”
You let out a small laugh, closing your locker. “Your brother’s on a case so… dinner’s on you.”
Will laughed, nodding. “I got you.”
The both of you ended up in one of the eateries you frequented that was near Med which opened late exactly for this reason - a place that had saved all of you from many late nights. Be it when Jay came to get you from a late shift, or when you, Connor and Will needed to eat after a shift before going to crash. All four of you had even been here together shortly after the shift in dynamics - you and Jay had just gotten married, while Will and Connor had finally started seeing each other officially.
In an effort to steer both your thoughts away from work, Will started a conversation about Connor, and you watched a light in Will’s eyes as he talked about Connor, a light that had finally let its way out into the world.
“What?” Will asked, angling his eyebrows at you before you realized you were smiling cheekily at him.
You shrugged. “Just nice to see you so happy.”
Will smiled, reaching over to ruffle your hair.
“You know you transitioned into this annoying older brother role way too smoothly.” You growled playfully, your eyes narrowing at him.
Will laughed, retracting his hand and chuckling.
Tumblr media
“Y/N?”
Jay’s voice reached you first before you saw him but it still made you smile.
“You said you were going to be late?” You said but you were already looping your arms around his waist and pressing yourself into his embrace.
Jay let out a small chuckle. “Sorry, I know things have been a little crazy.”
You shook your head, burying your face deeper into his shoulder. “I just missed you.”
Jay leaned back before leaning back down to press a gentle kiss to your lips. “Shall we stay in tonight?”
You grinned back at him. “Sounds perfect.”
It felt like it had been a while since you and Jay had done this, just stayed in, the television turned on while the two of you had a cozy meal before cuddling on the couch with the wine glasses sitting just a little precariously on the small coffee table Will and Connor had gotten the both of you as a wedding present.
“Everything at work okay?” Jay asked quietly, his arms resting around your waist.
“You know, same-old. We have the bullies, the overbearing parents, but there are also families that remind me why I became a doctor.”
Jay rested his chin gently on your shoulder, his cheek resting lightly against yours before he closed his eyes.
“I think that if you’re here, if I know that I get to come home to you at the end of any day or case, I’ll be able to do about anything.” He whispered.
You knew that voice, the voice that told you he'd had a hard day.
You took his hand gently in yours. “I’ll always be here, Jay. At the end of every difficult case, or day, no matter what.”
Jay pressed a kiss to your cheek lightly and you leaned further back into his embrace.
Tumblr media
“Dr Y/L/N, someone’s asking for you in the waiting room if you have a few minutes.” One of the nurses came up to you as you were studying a patient’s chart.
You looked around the ED, it was a quiet sort of day but you weren’t in the best of moods since you’d lost your card holder. Just thinking about having to replace your credit cards already made you feel tired and anxious. Regardless, you nodded with a smile at the nurse, thanking her for letting you know.
Putting on your best professional smile you headed towards the waiting room, scanning the crowd for someone who looked like they’d be waiting for you.
A woman who was about your age made eye contact with you, giving you a small smile. “Y/N Y/L/N?”
You frowned just a little in confusion although you kept your expression mostly neutral and nodded. She seemed a little familiar to you even though you weren’t fully certain where you’d seen her before.
The woman just smiled, handing you back a card case that was most definitely yours.
“I think you dropped this, this morning at the coffee place. I got your name from one of your cards and luckily the cafe said you were a regular so they knew you worked here.”
You felt the relief flood your system, the anxiety that had been clawing at you the whole morning finally seeming to let up.
“Oh my god, thank you.” You could even hear the relief in your voice bounce back at you but you weren't even embarrassed. “You saved me a lot of trouble and well... stress.”
You paused as you looked at her. “I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before. Have we met?”
The woman just smiled and shook her head. “Maybe in the mornings, I get my coffee there too most days.”
It didn’t feel like a correct answer but you let it go, reminding yourself this was not the time to obsess over unimportant details.
“Look, you did me a huge favor today. Is there something I can do to thank you?”
The woman just smiled. “Maybe you can just buy me a coffee. Tomorrow morning?”
You studied her for a bit and then nodded. She smiled, extending her hand. “Grace.”
You smiled back at her and shook it, agreeing to see each other the next morning at the cafe.
As you watched her walk back out the main door with a friendly wave, you felt that weird feeling again, like something wasn’t quite sitting right with you.
You definitely knew her from somewhere.
Tumblr media
As agreed, you’d met Grace the next morning at your morning coffee stop and it had gone better than you'd expected, so much so that you’d talked yourself out of that weird feeling in your gut, putting it down to that tinge of social anxiety you had with new people.
You’d almost caved and asked Will or Connor if they could come with you but decided you didn’t really wanna be a wuss. Besides, the rational part of your brain was telling you that your anxiety was being irrational once again.
Grace had been easy to talk to though, so you were glad you hadn’t overreacted.
But when you opened the door to the doctors’ lounge armed with coffees for both Connor and Will, you sensed something was off.
Will was sitting on the couch, his head ticked up just a little as the door opened and Connor’s arm was around Will’s shoulders, Will gently pressed up against Connor. Even though it was no secret, they didn't usually behave much like a couple at work.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, frowning as you quickly put the coffees down on the table and headed towards them.
Will glanced at Connor. “I’m fine.”
Connor gave him half an exasperated look, even though you could still see the frown lines tinged with worry.
Will might be your brother-in-law, but way before you and Jay had gotten close, the three of you had always been great friends so it wasn’t surprising you could tell they were holding something back.
You raised an eyebrow at Connor. “Someone better tell me what’s going on.”
Will exchanged a look with Connor before he gave him a small nod.
“She’s back.”
She.
You knew exactly who Connor was talking about. That was the part that really made you feel like shit.
Will had been reluctant to call it stalking at first, reluctant to put Jay on this even though the laws on stalking had already greatly improved the past few years. But now it seemed like Will was getting concerned too.
“Will, maybe we need to tell Jay about this.” You said gently, even though you understood why Will didn’t want to tell Jay and make it all official.
Will just nodded. “Maybe. I’ll talk to him.”
Connor glanced at Will before squeezing his hand gently. “I’ll see you later, alright? I've got a surgery."
With a quick kiss, Will and Connor parted and you nodded at Connor to assure him that you were here anyway.
Tumblr media
Will had told himself that if it persisted he'd go to Jay but she'd suddenly stopped showing up. The notes stopped and the street was empty when Will left the house.
“Maybe she finally gave up. Like she had one last look and she left.” You said, even though just saying it sounded stupid.
Will just smiled back, asking everyone to stop worrying.
“Y/N, you’re wanted in the waiting room.” Maggie called across the ED and you nodded, patting Will on the arm before heading straight out, shrugging at Maggie.
You’d barely stepped out of the automatic doors when you saw her.
“Grace?”
She looked a little frazzled, like she was startled.
“Y/N, thank god. I didn’t know anyone else and…”
You frowned, stopping her with a hand on her arm. “Okay, slow down. What’s going on?”
“My friend, she got hurt and I don’t think I can move her. It’s just at the next street. Can you…”
You frowned. “How is she hurt, Grace? What happened?”
Grace shook her head. “I don’t know, can you just…”
You took a glance back at Leah, who nodded at you quickly disappearing back into the ED.
Feeling certain that whoever it was that Leah alerted would be able to catch up to you quickly, you let Grace lead you out of the ED, so preoccupied that you didn’t notice the shift in the look in her eyes.
Tumblr media
“Anything?”
Will asked, jogging up towards Ethan who shook his head.
Having just gotten a bit of time between patients, Will and Ethan had come out after you almost immediately but somehow you were nowhere to be found.
Will already had his phone pressed to his ear but while it had been ringing earlier, it was now dead.
“Are we sure…” Will’s voice trailed off as his eye caught on something right by the side of the sidewalk. “Wait.”
Will bent down, picking it up. There was no mistaking it, Will thought, as the key-shaped pendant from your necklace lay in his palm. “This is hers. I better call Jay.”
Tumblr media
The ringing in Jay’s ears hadn’t stopped since he’d heard from Will.
With no hesitation whatsoever, Voight had sent Jay and Hailey along to Med, while Kim went straight to try to track movements from traffic pods.
Jay frowned now as he leaned over the computer in the security office with Hailey, watching as you spoke to a woman in the waiting room, her face not fully visible from the angle she was standing at.
Hailey glanced at Jay. “She knows where the cameras are.”
Jay nodded absentmindedly, his eyes locked on the image of you leaving the hospital - the last time any of your colleagues had seen you.
Jay ran a hand across his face as he tried to empty his brain to think. Nothing made sense. It didn’t make sense why anyone would want to take you. There’d been no violent patients that you had mentioned recently and everyone Hailey had spoken to earlier couldn’t think of anyone from the past few months either. Sure, there’d been difficult patients and family members but no one that jumped out as being dangerous.
Which meant they had no starting point. And Jay was worried that his brain was too clouded with worry to even think straight. He felt like he was missing something.
“Jay. Here.” Will said, his voice quiet as he put the necklace in Jay’s hand.
Jay’s eyes lingered for a while on the pendant now and Will glanced at his brother worriedly, unable to even imagine being in Jay’s shoes right now.
“Jay, if you…”
Will was interrupted as Jay’s phone rang, his eyes wandering towards the screen of the image capture.
What the hell?
Will glanced up again where Jay was still talking on the phone, before his eyes found the screen again, feeling the knot in his gut seemingly grow in size.
“Will, I just heard.” Connor’s voice broke Will out of what was almost a trance, turning to look at Connor.
Connor registered the look in Will’s eyes almost immediately, his eyes flitting to the screen before he glanced at Will. “That’s…”
“What?” Jay asked now, joining them again as he finished talking to Kim.
Will could barely look his brother in the eye as he glanced up.
“Her name is Grace. Grace Turner.”
Jay frowned. “You know this woman?”
Will exchanged a look with Connor, who merely squeezed his hand. “She's been stalking me."
Tumblr media
The room was still spinning but at least it seemed to be slowing down.
Grace had her back to you as she fiddled with something on her table. You knew you should have trusted your gut.
From the beginning, something had felt off about her, like she was being too friendly. But then you’d put it down to your social anxiety, swallowing it down like a bad pill.
Yet now, as you became more aware of the ache around your shoulders from your arms being pulled towards your back, feel the rough material of whatever she’d used to tie your wrists together, you knew your gut had been right all along. You should have just listened to it.
Just as you were trying to figure what the hell you were supposed to do, Grace turned to look at you.
Her lips curled up into a smile that you’d never seen on her face before, something that made the feeling of unease balloon up in the pit of your stomach.
“You’re awake.”
You frowned, your eyes scanning her expression for more clues.
“Grace, what’s going on? What… is this?” You asked, trying your best to keep your voice level and calm, as you’d done many times in the course of your work in the ED, regardless of what you were feeling.
Grace looked back at you, blinking. “I’ve been trying to figure out why he likes you. There’s nothing truly outstanding, you know?”
You frowned.
“What?”
You weren’t sure if she wasn’t making sense or if your head was still kind of spinning from inhaling whatever drug she’d soaked that cloth with before she’d pressed it against your mouth and nose earlier.
Grace turned back to look at you now and you didn’t like the glint in her eye. “I’ve been trying to figure it out for weeks, why he's been keeping his distance. And then I saw you with him, and then I knew. It was you. You’re the one standing between us.”
You frowned, your mind spinning as you tried to figure out what she was getting at. Jay hadn’t mentioned anything in particular and you were sure if there’d been someone following the both of you around, he’d have said something or changed up the routine for the both of you.
“You… what? Listen, if there’s…”
Grace didn’t seem to be listening though. “Is it because you’re both doctors?”
Both…
“You.” You couldn’t hide the contempt in your voice as you realized this was her. She was the woman who’d been stressing Will out.
Nervous as you were, your gut still feeling like it was flipped inside out, you also felt annoyance and the extreme urge to protect someone you cared about despite the situation you were in.
Even with the ache in your arms, you glared up at her. “If you really cared about him, you wouldn’t be doing this.”
Grace turned back towards you, the anger in her eyes more pronounced now. “No one cares about him more than I do!”
You didn’t avert your eyes, the anger you felt bubbling over in you overtaking the fear and uncertainty that was still hanging over you.
“Not even his brother?” Your voice was still even, as you looked at her. “You took me because you thought Will and I were seeing each other?”
Grace didn’t say anything, just narrowed her eyes at you.
“If we really were seeing each other, did you think taking me here was going to solve anything?”
Grace exhaled loudly. “I’ve been watching you with him.”
You studied Grace, feeling your thoughts swirl. She’d been so obsessed with Will, that she saw you when you were with him but she didn’t watch you any further. She didn’t see the times that you went home or on dates with Jay. You were actually more surprised she didn’t know about Connor.
“So what do you actually want?”
Your eyes flicked to the scissors she had in her hand as you finished your question, before she stepped towards you.
Tumblr media
Jay was quite literally going out of his mind.
They’d matched the woman’s identity, and went straight to her last known address but the apartment looked like it hadn’t been lived in for months judging by the layer of dust that had settled on the furniture. What they did find was a bunch of photos of Will scattered along the walls and other corners of the apartment.
Jay could feel the anger building inside him. Even if this crazy woman hadn’t taken you right under everyone’s nose, the fact that this was somehow connected to his brother was pissing him off so much it was taking all his effort not to punch something.
The sounds of fingers dancing across keyboards, as well as the sound of rifling papers reminded Jay that he needed to keep his head in the game.
“Hey, Jay.”
Jay glanced up to see Connor heading out of the pantry where he’d been with Will, his eyes flicking towards the back view of his brother before he nodded.
“Listen, I was thinking. Will mentioned he’s seen her around his apartment a few times, so couldn’t we…”
Jay froze. “Wait, what?”
Connor frowned. “He didn’t say anything to you?”
Jay’s eyes flicked back in the direction of his brother. “He should have told me about this when it happened.” His voice was slightly reproachful but Connor could hear the tinge of worry as well.
Connor just nodded, realizing he needed to tell Jay almost everything.
“So, can we…”
Jay’s mind was already there as he nodded, leaning back down over his computer, trying to run matches between Grace’s known family and acquaintances with recent rentals near Will’s apartment.
Jay’s eyes scanned the screen in front of him quickly before he paused. “Ruz, what did you say her sister’s name was?”
“Kayla.”
Jay frowned. “I have a Kayla Lloyd here.”
Kim was right on it. “I think you’re on the right track. Kayla Turner married Nash Lloyd three years ago.”
The team exchanged looks. Hailey nodded. “It’s the best we got so far. I say we go.”
Voight was already standing at his office door before he nodded. “Let’s go.”
Tumblr media
Connor glanced at Will from where they were sitting in the back of Jay’s truck.
Will was glancing out, his fist curled into a ball as it rested on the seat between him and Connor. It wasn’t that he was that affected by this woman, but the fact that he hadn’t done anything which ultimately got the people around him dragged in was really eating at him.
Jay glanced at his brother through the rear view mirror before training his eyes back on the road. He didn’t have the capacity to think of anyone else but you right now. He didn’t know how to. But he could feel the fear clawing at him, but he just exhaled slowly, turning the corner towards the address they’d found earlier.
Tumblr media
You exhaled, hearing Grace pacing outside the bedroom she’d put you in.
Your eyes darted around the room, your brain feeling like it was finally clearing up enough for you to form thoughts that were coherent enough for you to take in other details you hadn’t noticed earlier, like your phone sitting on the dresser.
Grace had been a little out for it for a while, alternating between mumbling to herself or ranting at you about Will. You hadn’t exactly pointed out the fact that you weren’t Will’s girlfriend, like she’d been thinking when she’d grabbed you. Other than the insinuation that had seemed to pass right over her head, you weren’t sure if it was going to make things worse if you pointed out that there was nothing going on between you and Will.
But you needed to do something.
You struggled a little to get to your feet, especially considering that your hands and feet were bound together but you managed to stand a little shakily with minimal sound, feeling a bead of sweat travel down the side of your face.
Gritting your teeth to try not to make any other sound, you gently hopped, grateful that at least she’d put a carpet on her bedroom floor. You angled your body, wobbling backwards as you neared the dresser, your hands finally closing around your phone. You fumbled with your fingers trying to at least turn it on so that Jay could somehow find you. You felt like it was forever, trying to wait for the stupid logo to disappear and for the phone to start but you’d just turned around again to peer at the screen when the door opened.
You froze as you watched the look on Grace’s face shift to one of rage as she took in the scene before her.
She lunged and you threw yourself out of the way, your eyes not missing the fact that she was still gripping onto the scissors in her hand. Your phone slid out of your hands and onto the floor with a thud and you felt your heart sink with it as you tried to reposition yourself on the floor, trying to ignore the shooting pains from the shoulder you’d landed on.
But you knew it was useless, especially as you heard her frustrated breath and a low growl before you felt yourself get yanked up by the hair.
She was freakishly strong for a woman her size.
That was the thought that entered your mind as you tried to regain as much balance as you could. You felt your breath catch in your throat as the threatening cold metal blades hovered near your neck right before the door crashed open.
You’d never felt such a sense of safety overwhelm you until you saw your husband’s face now, his gun ticked up high, his eyes betraying a mixed look of relief and worry at the same time, if that was even possible.
“Y/N.” Your name left his lips like a reflex, his eyes locked directly on yours, even the unspoken words putting you slowly at ease.
Jay was here.
Jay’s eyes flicked towards the woman standing behind you who looked as startled as a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming car.
“Put the scissors down.”
You heard the effort it took for Jay to keep his voice steady, knowing that it would just take something small for Jay to lose it. So you locked your eyes on his, even though you felt the anxiety once again eat at you.
Grace hadn’t reacted and Jay kept his gun raised, his trained eyes looking around the room.
“Stay out of this.” Grace forced the words out through her clenched teeth. “I wouldn’t have done this if she didn’t…”
Her words trailed off as your body froze, your eyes catching the flash of ginger at the door.
“Will.” You felt the jolt of worry hit you, interrupted only by a growl from behind you, the scissors that inched dangerously closer towards your neck reminding you that maybe you shouldn’t have said his name.
Will’s eyes lighted on yours and despite the predicament you found yourself in, you wanted to smack him upside the head for that guilt swimming in his eyes.
Your eyes moved back towards Jay’s and he nodded discreetly at you.
“Grace. Listen to me. Put it down and we can all talk, alright?” Jay said quietly, lowering his gun just a little as a show of faith.
Grace frowned, her eyes flicking up towards Will before she spoke. “All I needed to do was get rid of her, right?”
Will’s frown deepened just slightly as he absorbed what Grace was saying.
“I was just getting rid of the obstacles standing in our way.” Grace said, her voice cracking just a little. “I see the way you look at her, but if it wasn’t for her, we'd be together!"
Will glanced at you and you frowned just as his eyes flicked back to Grace, his head shaking slowly. “I need you to let her go. Can’t you see you’re hurting everyone?”
You heard Will’s voice crack softly, Jay’s eyes flicking towards his older brother as well.
“She’s my… she’s my sister. There’s nothing… You… you’ve misunderstood.”
You could hear how much it was killing Will to keep his voice even and steady, when he was just as close to losing his cool as Jay was.
You felt Grace’s hold on you loosen just a little as her focus shifted entirely to Will. “Your…”
She shook her head, her shaking hand once again inching closer towards you. “I’ve seen the both of you… you don’t have a sister, don’t lie to me!”
“It’s true.” Will said quietly, glancing at Jay who nodded, now lowering his gun even more, Hailey stepping just half a step forward in case.
“Grace.” Jay said quietly. “Look at me.”
As Grace turned her attention to him, Jay exhaled gently. “You know me, don’t you? If you know Will as well as you do.”
Grace nodded slowly. “I just want my wife back.” He said quietly and you heard the quiet crack in his voice, one that only you would have picked up on. “Just give her back to me, please.”
“Your…”
Grace angled her head back down to you and you nodded. “I tried to tell you.”
Caught off-guard, Grace looked like she wasn’t sure what to do next. In her hesitation, her hand holding the blade moved slightly away from you, hovering off to the side and Jay nodded at you.
You threw yourself in the opposite direction, falling back down onto the ground with a crash, the pain in your shoulder causing you to groan. Jay lunged towards Grace, the metal blades of the scissors clattering across the ground as she lost grip.
“Y/N, are you hurt?”
Will’s voice reached you first and you opened your eyes, the groan escaping your lips. “My shoulder. I think…”
Jay was back at your side as Hailey took over the arrest, slicing through the cables around your wrists quickly. The relief was almost immediate and a quiet sigh escaped your lips as the pressure of your arms being pulled behind you was released, even though your shoulder still gave a small throb.
“Are you hurt?” Jay’s voice was quiet but you could feel every single emotion that pulsated through those three words.
You winced as Will’s fingers applied pressure on your shoulder but Will glanced up a little guiltily at his brother, shaking his head. “It’s a little strained but I don’t think it’s a serious injury.”
“Chloroform I think.” You told Will, glancing a little worriedly at Jay for an impending reaction.
Instead, Jay just leaned in, pressing you gently into his embrace, as if worried you’d disappear right out of his arms.
You felt tears well up in your eyes as the adrenaline still pumped through your veins, the anxiety from everything that had happened pulling to the surface, a quiet sob escaping through your lips.
Putting a gentle hand on your head, Jay pulled you deeper into his embrace, soothing you quietly and as you felt your heartbeat slow, you didn’t feel like crying anymore.
Tumblr media
The only time Jay had let go of your hand was briefly in the ambulance when the paramedics needed to put a line in, as well as when Ethan had asked him to wait outside and you’d nodded quietly at him with an encouraging smile.
But the moment Ethan had let him back in, Jay was once again next to you almost like a bodyguard while Ethan assured him that everything seemed to be okay except that your shoulder was slightly bruised from the fall and that you were getting an ice compress and they’d examine you again after.
As Ethan left the both of you alone in the room again, you leaned your head against Jay with a soft sigh.
“You doing okay?” Jay asked quietly.
You didn’t answer immediately before you nodded. “You heard Ethan.”
“You know that wasn’t what I was asking.” A reproachful tone crept into Jay’s voice despite his efforts to hide it.
You pulled away to look up at him and Jay took the opportunity to lower himself down towards you, sitting at the edge of your bed so he could be close enough for you to remain snuggled into his side.
“I remembered where I knew her from…” You’d barely begun when your eyes caught Will hovering at the entrance of the room.
Jay glanced up, nodding at his brother who was closely followed by Connor. Connor had Will’s hand protectively clamped in his own, which only made you want to smile.
“Hey, you doing okay?” Will asked. “Ethan said whatever she gave you was probably just a sedative and that other than a busted shoulder you’re…”
You smiled. “I’m fine.”
Will glanced at Jay, which made you look at your husband as well.
“Look, Y/N. I’m sorry. This is all…”
“Will Halstead.” You snapped, interrupting him. “I swear to God, if you take all the blame for this one I will smack you upside the head. Hard.”
You narrowed your eyes at him as Will looked a little startled, even though a smile was playing on the corner of Connor’s lips.
“How the hell were any of us supposed to know this was her? Or that this woman following you around would actually think I was your girlfriend and kidnap me in broad daylight?” You said, glancing over at Jay as if this was directed at him as well.
Jay just nodded at you before looking at his brother. “Will, I wasn’t blaming you, I just…”
Will nodded. “I know. I kept thinking if Connor had disappeared…”
Connor gave Will’s hand another reassuring squeeze.
“We done?” You asked, almost accusingly at Will.
Will’s eyebrows bunched together in slight confusion as he nodded.
“Now, get over here. I need a hug from my older brother.” You snapped.
Will let out the first real smile that day and stepped forward to pull his arms around you. “I’m sorry.” Will whispered.
You shook your head. “All of you came to get me. That’s what matters.”
Will pulled away and Connor reached for his hand once more. “Told you so.”
You smiled, leaning back into Jay’s embrace. “You almost induced a heart attack today. Don’t ever disappear on me again.” Jay whispered, pressing his lips onto your temple.
You just closed your eyes, letting out a soft hum of satisfaction at being safe with Jay, accompanied by Will and Connor, the ache in your shoulder barely even bothering you anymore.

Model Husband
Pairing: Connor Rhodes x Reader
Requested: yes, by @lelaartt
Summary: Stressful day, but at least there's Connor.
Tumblr media
Word Count: 819
Tags/Warnings: Established Relationship, mentions of death
A/N: I know I haven't posted in a while, but this has been sitting in my drafts for... forever lol. Please bear with me, this semester is kinda crazed.
CONNOR RHODES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
It had been a long day. A long draining day and Connor was just looking forward to seeing you and having a quiet night together.
Figuring he’d check if you were ready, Connor left the doctor’s lounge still in his white coat, taking the lift right up to the ICU.
As he stepped in, he caught sight of you immediately, running towards one of the rooms where there was an obvious code blue, a rush of staff heading towards the room.
Connor stood to the side against an empty side of the station, quietly watching as you worked quickly to assist the doctor standing next to you.
It must have been a tough day for you too, Connor caught himself thinking as his eyes followed you. Anyone else would have missed it - the slight droop in your shoulders, or the way you stood telling him you had that persistent ache at that one point on your shoulders that kept coming back to haunt you.
Connor looked down as he picked up on the sounds of “Clear!” from the doctor that was working on the patient. But Connor also knew well enough the chances…
He held back an audible sigh as the faint sound of a flat line made its way out to him. Now, the look in your eyes told him he really needed to get you out of there.
You looked up, catching sight of your husband now. Even just seeing him from afar made you want to cry, so you gave him a small smile and he nodded, telling you not to worry and that he’d be right there waiting.
Tumblr media
If anyone asked how you’d gotten from the hospital back home, you’d have to ask them to ask Connor.
You were drained, both physically and mentally. The knotted ache in your shoulder that was consistently giving you issues was acting up again, you felt dead on your feet and the ICU had lost three patients today.
You weren’t exactly emotionally attached. You were an experienced enough nurse to handle that well, but even so losing patients was draining no matter what.
“Here.”
Connor handed you a plate and you smiled up at your husband from where you were seated with your legs crossed on the couch.
Like a model husband, Connor had insisted on preparing dinner while you took a hot shower which had definitely made you feel a lot better even though the knot in your shoulder was still there.
“Thanks, babe.” You answered, not realizing how hungry you were until the smell of pasta reached you as you took the plate in your hands.
The both of you ate in mostly silence, but Connor sat close by and that in itself made you feel better and you glanced at your husband, who returned you a smile.
Connor took the empty plate out of your hands and you frowned.
“You already cooked.”
Connor shook his head. “Just fulfilling my husband duties.”
“I knew I married you for a reason.” You announced in a sort of teasing fashion that would have been more convincing if you weren’t so exhausted.
Connor just smiled and pressed a kiss to the top of your head before you heard him patter off to the kitchen, flipping on the stereo on his way.
Music was now playing softly in the apartment and you closed your eyes for a while, the faint sound of running water from the kitchen mixing together with the soft music tones. This was the kind of evening you needed, especially today.
You opened your eyes again when you felt Connor’s hands touch your shoulder from behind you and you glanced up at him.
“What’s going on?” You asked with a smile. “Is today a special day I don’t know about?”
The words were barely out of your mouth before your brain started working, trying to figure out if you had forgotten a date or something.
Connor shook his head. “Relax. The ache’s been bothering you today, hasn’t it?”
You felt his thumb press firmly against the knot, and you exhaled, the stress seeming to leave your body almost instantaneously.
You closed your eyes, feeling Connor’s fingers seemingly press out all the negative feelings and stress from the day.
Angling your head upwards again, you reached up for his hand. “You must be tired too, come here.”
“You sure?”
You smiled, tugging gently so that Connor would make his way back around to the front of the couch and next to you.
“This is the best way you can help me recharge.” You said, fitting yourself right into his arms , both of you sprawled on the couch.
Connor smiled, his arms looping around your body. “Me too.”
You chuckled, resting the back of your head against his chest, feeling the edges of Connor’s stubble against your temple and knowing this was the perfect way to end a stressful day.

she's alright, i guess
Pairing: Stellaride x SeverideDaughter!Reader
Requested: yes, by anon
Summary: Y/N hasn’t been very welcoming towards having Stella in their lives, but when she’s faced with a situation, Stella proves to Y/N that she’s in her corner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Word Count: 2.2K+
Tags/Warnings: Dad!Kelly, mentions of attempted assault, single parent, victim shaming
A/N: This is a different kind of request/fic from what I've written for OC so far but I was pretty intrigued by it so I decided to give it a go. Not opening requests for daughter fics at the moment still because I’m not sure how this turned out yet so let me know what you guys think!
STELLARIDE MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You looked up from where you’d been playing with the food on your plate, only to catch Stella smile at your father who was sitting next to you.
Resisting the urge to make a face, you turned to look at him. “Can I be excused?”
Kelly gave a small sigh and turned to look at you, looking like he wanted to say something and then deciding against it, merely nodding. “Yeah, go on.”
You gave his girlfriend a last withering look before you took your plate back into the kitchen.
Kelly suppressed an audible sigh before he looked back at Stella. “Sorry.”
Stella smiled and shook her head. “She just needs some time.”
You rolled your eyes and headed back to your room, plopping yourself down on your bed and staring up at your ceiling.
It wasn’t really that you didn’t like Stella. Hell, you’d been okay with her before you found out she was dating your father.
As far as daughters went, you were sure that you were at least three times more protective over your father than your classmates were about their own parents.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that you only ever had Kelly growing up. You’d overheard countless discussions about people telling him that it was hard being a single parent especially with his job but whatever anyone said, and however Kelly had felt from the first time he’d found out he’d had a daughter and come to get you, Kelly had stuck it out with you.
Over the years, especially once you were older, you’d seen many girlfriends come and go - some didn’t want commitment, some ran the moment they found out about you, some just… didn’t make it. It didn’t matter that Kelly had seemed fine with everything. You were not, so all that had done was make you even more protective over him.
So when you’d found out about Stella, you’d felt your hackles raise.
Logically, you knew Stella had done nothing to deserve this but your 15 year old brain couldn’t seem to override the emotion with logic.
You lay there for a while more until there was a knock on your door and Kelly poked his head in.
“Hey kiddo. Can we talk?”
You sat up but didn’t give him an answer because you knew very well what he wanted to talk about and you weren’t sure you wanted to hear it.
Kelly came in anyway, pulling out the chair at your desk and sitting across from you.
“Will you give Stella a break?”
You looked up with a look of protest and Kelly held up a hand.
“I know.” Kelly said in a low voice, giving you a small smile to show you he wasn’t mad. “Just lighten up a little and give her a chance. That’s all I’m asking.”
You didn’t say anything but Kelly let out a chuckle as you pursed your lips. “Go easy.”
He pressed a kiss to the top of your head before patting your hair affectionately and leaving the room.
Tumblr media
You pulled your jacket tighter around you, glancing behind you.
You hadn’t meant to let it get so late but you’d gotten a little too immersed in your notes and lost track of time. Other than the wind blowing against your back and making you shiver, you hadn’t realized how quiet the road from your friend’s house was.
You kind of regretted not calling Kelly to come and get you, but you also didn’t relish the idea of waiting here so you’d forged on, telling yourself you’d walked this street thousands of times.
But now, you were pretty sure someone was following you, hearing the echoing footsteps behind you.
Damn it.
Your hands that were jammed into your pockets closed around your phone but you were also worried things would escalate so you picked up your pace instead.
You heard the footsteps behind you match the increase in your speed and just as you thought you should break into a run, you were yanked backwards and unable to maintain your balance, you tumbled onto the concrete pavement, feeling the concrete scrape against your skin.
Your head snapped upwards, feeling your heart fall straight into your gut when you looked back into the face of the man that now towered over you.
It was a stranger, not a face you remembered seeing, but his lips ticked upwards in a smile that flipped your stomach over and your gut feeling as well as every nerve in your body was screaming at you to get up and run.
Flight.
You scrambled to your feet, slowly moving backwards as he now stepped towards you. His movements had slowed, like a predator that had just cornered his prey.
He took another step towards you and with well chosen timing, you brought your knee up swiftly, just like how Kelly had taught you.
Winded, the man bent over but not before letting out a growl.
You didn’t stick around long enough to find out what he had to say, your legs already moving before your brain realized you were running.
The wind blowing against you was painful but you didn’t dare stop because you weren’t sure if he was on your heels.
You turned the corner, sparing a glance back and collided straight into someone.
“Sorry.” You panted, glancing up.
“Y/N?” Stella looked surprised to see you before her expression switched to one of concern. “What’s wrong?”
Stella glanced up at the empty street behind you and then looked back at you. “You okay?”
You really didn’t have the energy for anything else. You just really needed an adult. You glanced up at her without talking and Stella reached for your hand.
When you didn’t pull away, Stella squeezed. “Do you want me to take you home?”
You shook your head quickly. “No. Wait. I just… I don’t want Dad to see me like this.”
Stella studied you for just a second more before she nodded. “My apartment’s just around the corner. Why don’t you come and have something at my place and we can talk? If you want to.”
You hesitated for just a second but you were still kind of spooked so you nodded, letting her lead you back down from where she came from, not even realizing your hand was still in hers.

Stella wasn’t exaggerating when she said her apartment was around the corner.
Within five minutes, you were seated on Stella’s couch, a cup of hot tea in your hands while you found yourself telling her what happened.
It was weird - you’d expected Stella to maybe pat your shoulders a little to reassure you that things would be fine before trying to convince you to call Kelly so he could come and get you. She wouldn't be the first girlfriend to hand you back over to your father as soon as she could.
But the emotions on Stella’s face as you told her were new to you - looks of concern, before outrage and then… if you didn’t know any better, you’d think she was upset.
You fell quiet after a while and Stella scooted a little closer to you.
“Alright, Y/N, listen.” Stella said and you looked up at her. “We have to report this.”
You looked back down again, your index fingers twirling together even though you were still holding the mug.
“I’ll come with you.” Stella paused. “If you’ll let me.”
You looked up again and nodded quietly. "You… You’d do that?”
You registered a look of surprise on Stella’s face before she next spoke. “Of course, Y/N.”
“Can we not call my dad yet?”
There was a small silence and you held back a sigh. You knew what would happen if your father found out about this. Other than the fact that you hated making him worry and that you knew things might get blown up out of proportion with practically everyone getting involved, it was kind of awkward talking to him about some stuff.
Stella glanced at you. “How about we take things one step at a time?”
You bit your lip and Stella nodded encouragingly at you. “Let’s go to the district and then when you’re ready, we can call Kelly alright?”
You nodded quietly, taking another sip of tea before Stella smiled. “Ready?”
You got up and Stella grabbed an extra coat off her coat hanger, draping it around your shoulders.

Stella had been told to wait outside while you gave your statement to the uniformed police officer sitting across from you but you were regretting this with each question the officer asked you.
“What were you doing out so late?”
“Is this what you normally wear to school?
You were done with the insinuations in his voice and tone. You were 15, not an idiot. You knew exactly where this was going and you’d been around your father’s friends long enough to pick some stuff up.
You stood all of a sudden, the nails digging into your palms in an effort not to let the angry tears out. “I’m not answering any more questions.”
“What do you…”
You didn’t let him finish his sentence, opening the door and stalking out.
As promised, Stella was right outside, glancing up as you walked out, reading the expression on your face instantly.
“You okay?”
You pulled Stella’s jacket tighter around yourself. “I just want to go home.”
Stella frowned, glancing up at the officer that was now outside the room as well. “You still have to answer a few questions. You can’t just…”
You didn’t move and Stella looked back down at you. “Y/N?”
“He hasn’t asked me a single question about what happened.” You said in a low voice, focusing only on Stella now. “No questions about how the man looked, what street this took place on, how he sounded.”
Stella frowned. Those were enough for her to put together a few pieces of the puzzle.
“Those are necessary questions. We need to know if…”
“Kidd. Y/N.”
You glanced up at a familiar face and Stella patted your back. “Told you I got you.” She whispered in a low voice so only you could hear.
Stella nodded with a smile at Hailey.
Telling the officer she’d take over, Hailey led you back into the room and smiled encouragingly at you.
“Stella called me. Will you tell me what happened?”
It was easier than you’d expected to talk to Hailey but even as you told her what happen, you found yourself internally steeling yourself for a lecture of some sort and you suddenly just really wished Kelly was here.
But Hailey offered no lecture or talking-to. Instead, she treated you like an adult, taking down the information you offered, her questions only revolving around important information she obviously needed, before she closed the book.
“Thank you, Y/N. Here.” Hailey handed you a small bottle and a small device. “Pepper spray and a small panic button.”
You looked up a little surprised and Hailey smiled. “If nothing, maybe it’ll help you feel safer.”
You nodded, keeping the things she handed you and Hailey came around and squeezed your shoulder before taking you out of the room again where Stella was waiting.
“Dad must be worried, I…”
Stella shook her head with a smile. “I told him you’re with me so he wouldn’t. I can call him if you’re ready.”
You felt involuntary tears well up in your eyes before you nodded. "Can you? I... I think I really need him."
Kelly was here in record time, running up the steps of the district as if he’d been waiting nearby in the first place but you didn’t care. The rush of relief and safety when you saw him made you wonder why you hadn’t gone to him immediately anyway.
“Y/N!”
You didn’t say anything, merely shooting off your seat to dive into your father’s arms like you were a child once again.
“You okay? Let me see.” Kelly pulled away just a little to look at you but other than remnants of the startled look in your eyes and new tears ready to spill over, you weren’t really hurt.
Kelly gently pulled you back into his arms and exhaled. “Thank god.”
He was never one for long verbal communications of how much he loved you but you didn’t really need him to tell you. This was even more apparent now as you were huddled in your father’s arms in the middle of a police district.
“You must be starving.” Kelly said after a while, looking down at you to wipe a stray tear off your face. “Why don’t we go get something to eat, hmm?”
You gave a small crooked smile and Kelly looked up, meeting Stella’s eyes.
“I’ll call you tomorrow.” Kelly said with a small apologetic smile at Stella. “Thank you.”
Stella nodded, but you interrupted them. “You’re not coming to eat with us?”
Kelly raised his eyebrows.
“Thought I’d give you two some private time.” Stella said, although she seemed to be weighing the look in your eyes now.
You shrugged. “You can come eat with us, too.”
Kelly glanced between his girlfriend and daughter. “Did something happen?”
You shrugged, lowering your voice. “She’s alright I guess.”
Kelly chuckled, swinging an arm around your shoulders as he led you out of the district. Stella fell into step on your other side and you smiled up at her. “Thank you.” You whispered, fully aware your father could hear you.
Stella smiled. “Thank you, too.”
Kelly just smiled at both his girls as the three of you walked down the empty streets. Together.
