Major Championships and Background Checks

Hi friends,

  This past week the sports world was treated to a virtual buffet of championship excellence.

  Golf’s premier major at Pinehurst – the US Open, was won by Martin Kaymer in a wire-to-wire victory.

The LA Kings are starting a dynasty with their 2nd Championship in 3 years for the NHL.

Nadal took Djokovic in 4 sets to claim his ninth French Open title.

Last night the San Antonio Spurs claimed the NBA Finals crown from Lebron and the back-to-back champs Miami Heat.

And the fervor around The World Cup is more exciting every day.  USA!  USA!  USA!

This has been awesome for sports fans everywhere.  And we’re 80 days from the opening kickoff of the NFL season and college ball summer camps are starting with great energy and hopes.

  So what does this have to do with background checks in any way, shape or form?  And when did this turn into a sports blog!?  Well, let me tell you.  None of these epic events would be able to happen without the support of thousands upon thousands of people.  People who work or volunteer for the stadiums, teams, TV crews, vendors and more.  Do you ever wonder how some guy on each golf green is selected to hold up a “quiet” sign?  Who put him in charge?  And why does Peyton Manning get so many commercials?  He probably never eats Papa John’s pizza anyway!  Didn’t Seattle win?

    It all comes down to trust.  Will the company I’m dealing with deliver when I need them.  (No pun intended).  Just like referees in sports, they should be quietly in the background.  The last thing anyone wants is a rogue soda vendor at a baseball game assaulting a fan.  It is critically important that whenever you are in a situation where 2 or more people will be interacting, that we have complete, accurate and thorough background checks performed.  It doesn’t matter the reason – Tenant, Employment or Volunteer.  As leaders and those responsible for a safe and a profitable environment; to skip (or do a poor job on) a background check is unwise.  For a few dollars, you save thousands..as well as your future business.

Why you should always be concerned about Eviction records that are PAID!

Hello and I hope you’re having a terrific day as we get closer and closer to summer time.  Spring has sprung and excitement for the warm weather revitalizes our hope in all things new.  For some, that means moving out of their current rental and into a wonderful, new, clean apartment or home that you have for rent.  So how do you select the right applicant?   It’s important to know the credit history, job stability and criminal record of every applicant; but it’s also important to know if there are any severe delinquencies that will NOT show on a credit report, but will be part of the Civil Court record.

This is because the seemingly perfect applicant may not be so squeaky clean.  The credit report looks good, the public record does not reflect an Eviction, but those pesky Eviction history records unveil a deep problem.  That problem is that it took filing Writs at the courthouse for the tenant to pay their rent.  Yes; they eventually did, but how much did it cost you?   Why do you want to have someone who will always test your limits and then ask for more time.  We’ve seen it too many times where that type of tenant is the one that sneaks out in the middle of the night owing you 2-3 months rent..PLUS fees and damages.

Please add Eviction Records as a product in your Screening order so you can see the true cost of your rental.  Managing your P&L takes on many forms and you can protect yourself with this extra layer of coverage.  See the big picture!

What is the definition of Value?

Hi all,

Value.  What does it really mean?  Is it the lowest price for a good or service?  The highest quality?  The best service?  Websters definition is “a fair return or equivalent in goods, services, or money for something exchanged”.   I believe that Value is also what you perceive that fair return it to be.  As a provider of background checks, I see various Clients hold dear different parts of the Value equation.  Some want the file to be completed in seconds, some care more about price, to some the accuracy or service availability at any pace is most important.

Tax Season and Employment Background Checks

We all go through it every year.  Tax Returns.  Even if you get money back, it’s such a hassle to make sure you have everything in place to file the return without fear of missing something or have an agent knock on your door!

Tax Fraud

As tax returns are completed though; an IRS form, the 4506-T can be used by employers to verify the Tax Schedules and amounts their applicants claim in those Schedules as their income history.  The turn time on these reports are nearly instant and only require an authorization (which a valid applicant will gladly provide).
