My Review on Chick fi la:
I've never had Chick fi la at this point in my life and wanted to know how it actually tastes. The sticking point? The current owner of the chain is incredibly homophobic and regularly donates money to orginazations that promote homophobia and conversion therapy, so I actively didn't want to give my money to the orginazation.
But I had to know, people rant and rave about the food that Chick fi la( Shortened to CFL from here on out) serves. Could it be worth the human suffering? Is the chicken sandwich that good?
Tumblr media
Enter my parents, more specifically my mom. She had been given this card for a free sandwich at a CFL. She passed it on to me because there is no CFL restaurant near them and ironically there's one not far from where I live. This was the opportunity I was looking for. I had access to their food, without having to pay them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The process of getting said sandwich was honestly not that bad. Due to the high amount of customers they ususally get, they've got a system to get people in and out as painless and quick as possible. They accepted my coupon, gave me my sandwich and I headed home to try it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sandwich itself was unassuming and nonthreating. It was simple, just fried chicken, two pickles, and a bun. That's it, nothing more nothing less. While they offered me the iconic CFL sauce, I didn't get. You can purchase from a store and I wanted to try the sandwich on it's own. Of course the sauce would change the flavor, but I wanted a bare bones test. So I took my first bite
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was incredibly surprised by the texture. Compared to most fast food chicken sandwiches, this was (unfortunately) pretty good. It was juicy and tender and the outside was still crispy even after the drive home. It's not very flavorful, but it was honestly pretty tasty compared to most fast food chicken sandwiches of the same ilk. I won't lie, after a long day at I was pretty satisfied.
Tumblr media
So back to the beginning; is the food there good? Surprisingly yes, it's a notch above fast food in terms of quality and experience. Is it worth the human suffering and blatant homophobia the company supports?
Tumblr media
Absolutely not. No sandwich, food item, or postive customer experience could ever justify the horrible treatmemt of LGBTQ+ people the company partakes in. I still don't understand how people can overlook that and still say the food is worth it. Go to a different chain or make it yourself is the advice I'd give. Thank you for your time
(Note I did finish the sandwich just so food didn't go to waste)

Not even as a joke. People's lives are literally depending on this upcoming election and this would be basically throwing away your vote.

I originally worked on this after the news broke that Ahmaud Aubery was killed jogging by residental neighbors because it bothered me. It erked me in a way, probably because it shouldn't of happened. But I couldn't finish it for two reasons. I wanted to it convey a message and I spent time tweaking and editing it to get it right. The other reason is that not long after, the news broke that Breonna Taylor was killed in her own home in a police raid. And now George Floyd was killed by a police officer not even a week ago. The picture I was working on felt OUTDATED in a matter of days. It shouldn't have happened at all, let alone this quickly. It felt wrong to make this picture without making ones for Breonna and Floyd.
I want instead to use the this unfinished picture as a jumping off point to talk the stuff happening now.
Let me make this clear, THESE ACTS OF VIOLENCE SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED AT ALL.
The fact that black people (and other poc) are treated with such aggressive action for mudane reasons or no reason at all is a problem that we can no longer tolerate. We have more than enough reason to be upset, scared, angry and vocal about this matter. Because no matter we do, no matter where we are, we live with the thought in the back of our heads that we could end up the same. And unfortunately we've seen how true that is. And this will be true as long as the people in power let this happen. This will be true if we sit in silence as this happens again and again. This will be true if the people that rise to these positions of power believe that there are no consequences their actions.
It is ludicrous how our goverment have reacted, i.e. little to no reaction at all. If anything, they've reacted to the outcry and the protests more, which is nonsense. They can no longer say this isn't a matter of race. That white people storming a capital, making death threats, armed to the teeth, retaliating at an order to slow the spread of a virus, with no retalation or consequence to them. But when people peacefully protest the death of a innocent black man they are met with excessive force. They won't accept peaceful protests, they won't accept a giant kickback in protest. No matter how we protest, they just say it's uncalled for as another death is swept under the rug overnight.
Be vocal. Share the names of Ahmaud Abery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd. Share all the names of black people who died just trying to live. Share your support. Support the families of those who have had someone taken away for no reason. Let it be know that this sort of systematic racism is unacceptable and cannot and will not be tolerated. Not now, not ever again.
