Bringing Poetry Back
So, I haven't actually practiced my poetry in a while guys! YIKES! And you could be asking, "but Retopyrra why is that so?" Well, I'll tell you. My life has been a chaotic cesspool of disarray with a heaping dose of crazy on top (okay, maybe not THAT bad, but you get my point). I have been super busy with working, having another baby, not working, college courses, working again.... the list goes on and on. But the truth of the matter is my blog was never something I actually dove into in the first place so of course it took a back burner.
Now I'm here (again) to fix that.
I've decided to focus fully on my poetry because honestly, THIS is God's calling on my life. And I thought to myself, hmm, how can I possibly build a following so people can actually hear my poems and be blessed? Well, I figured I would come back to this blog to start. Writing about my writing (though it sounds redundant) seems like a good way to connect with those who wish to read my poetry, and let me know what I can improve on.
Another conquest I've decided to pursue is Podcasting for the first time and that's an adventure I have never attempted before. All the details haven't been worked out yet, but for those interested like me on Facebook at facebook.com/Retopyrra or follow my Instagram @retopyrra
I'll be using those sites to explain more details about the podcast when I get them, but let's get back to topic, which is poetry. Now you might think, well what kind of poetry do you have? That's a great question, I'm glad you asked! My best form of poetry is actually Spoken Word, which is a type of poetry akin to rapping, usually reffered to as Slam Poetry. It's a kind of poetry that must be performed rather than read. A lot of times with these types of poems the rhyme scheme doesn't even make sense unless you hear me pronounce it the way I meant it, kind of like rap. The way I think of difference between the two is the fact that rap follows the beat Of a song, while spoken word poetry has a rhythm of its own.
Now as I said, Spoken Word is my "best" form of poetry, but it isn't my only form. So that's what I will be using this blog for. Starting today, I will be posting weekly my "other" forms of poetry, whether it be concrete, limmerick, haiku, or just simple stanzas of my work. My plan is to utilize the visual of this platform so that you can see poetry for what it can be: a multifaceted outlet of expression using one of our best instruments, our words.
I may also tell a story or two, have a little laugh, a little cry. Who knows! But one thing is for sure, I love poetry and a bunch of other stuff, so check me out next week to find out about the fun.

#TBT Back in 2011, I was ministering with EVOKE Ministries at UCF campus, sharing my poem called "Thank you note" which is a piece of my testimony. I prayed with and for that woman who was touched by my story. I can't wait to do more. #THROWBACKTHURSDAY

Wander
Yell me louder I can't hear The simple voices reign so clear Now says my heart so full of fear Once had you close to draw me near But deeper oceans venture I Across the blue and bitter sky Trails of unending ugly lies Reveal the world with open eye And in that foul darkness lay Anger and sadness gone astray Wailing for hope, an endless day A pit of hate, I dare not stay So help me please I beg of you Prove me again that you are true Hold me close and tighter to Your mercies always given new

Piece of me
I gave you a piece of me Please hold it delicately Because beyond what you think you see Im far from a catastrophe Please I offer only you this peace To take me to a place so sweet Where yonder waves unending feet And all my worry seem to cease. Yet to a different desitnation I find a new sweet conversation And the glass of truth is wiped of condensation To reveal to me a startling revelation You never were or never will be The icy blade to try and kill me But since my life, a rose quickly wilting I'll rush to life while I'm still free Sway stilly as i give you this part Of the chunks that have become my heart Tasting lifes feast and being torn apart So i may fully partake in a brand new start
