Colt, “Well boys, it looks like we’re in luck, not only is Antarctica the coldest place on earth, but this happens to be their winter season. There currently is no sunrise in Antarctica for the next 2 months and the average temperature is around -30 degrees Fahrenheit.”

Nick, “I was able to lock down transportation, but I feel like I spent most of my share of that reward money in the process. I also got us arctic gear, and confirmed that the prototype helmets that we’ve been running with are tested at -60 degrees Fahrenheit and our night vision will work fine at that temperature. The helmets even have temperature regulators built for both heat and cold.”

Dave, “That all sounds fine and dandy, but what’s the plan once we get there?”

Colt, “From what I can tell by looking at the thermal imaging photos that the NEA sent over, they were right about the 5 terrorists but they failed to mention that they’re sitting on a B61-12 bomb.

Nick, “So we’re talking Nuclear?”

Colt, “Right, the radius isn’t huge but they’ve been known to be extremely accurate. It hasn’t been activated, but we’re obviously dealing with some heavy hitters”

The three of them arrive at their take off destination, everything is loaded into the plane and wheels are up within a couple minutes. The flight is spent going over details and confirming everything they need will be there when they land. The pilot, the only other person on the plane, doesn’t seem to be privy to much so they do their best to keep their planning session between themselves.

As they get off the plane and step foot onto the South American pavement, they notice what looks to be a massive black helicopter on the other side of the small airport. A short bearded man in army fatigues approaches their plane, before Nick can get a word out Dave asks, ‘Nick, this guy with you?”

Nick, “Yup, that’s my guy.”

The man proceeds to shake all of their hands and assume that they all speak spanish, as he jumps into a 5 minute breakdown of their new prototype helicopter. Since Dave is fluent in spanish he does his best to translate.

Dave, “He says that it can make the trip to Antarctica no problem.”

“Now he says that it has enough firepower to hold the entire Argentine army at bay. It was developed in order to fly small military units into hostile environments and extract hostages from hot zones. He says it’s called the Tarantula Hawk”

Nick, “Ask him why”

Dave, “He says that the tarantula hawk is a spider wasp that hunts tarantulas. It’s sting is considered to be the second most painful insect sting in the world, plus it sounds scary”

Colt, “That’s awesome.”

Nick pays the guy as Colt and Dave make their way to the Tarantula Hawk, when they get to the chopper, they start looking it over and see all of the arctic gear they requested waiting for them inside. Colt start sifting through the gear, he pulls out some arctic parkas, and sees some thermal underwear in sealed bags marked BULLETPROOF.

Colt, “Is this stuff really bulletproof?”

Nick jogs up, “That’s what the man said, or at least that’s what I thought he said.”

Dave, “I overheard him as we were walking away, he said that it’s confirmed and tested bulletproof thermal underwear that the Russians were working on. A scientist in South America was able to perfect it. He threw that in because he says we’re walking into a death trap.”

Colt, “Well that’s reassuring. Dave, can you fly this thing or what?”

Dave (as he’s flipping switches from the pilot’s seat), “This T. Hawk is pretty intense, but I can fly it.”

Nick, “Good enough for me”

The blades begin to slice through the air  as the chopper grows louder and louder. The Tarantula Hawk utilizes a perpendicular rotor that allows it to fly at speeds over 200 mph, making the trip to Antarctica a little more tolerable. The team is slowly lifted into the air and with what feels like a gust of wind behind them, they shoot forward towards their destination.

Rubicon: Pt. 1

The Revengers are a group of highly trained and gifted individuals, inspired by their faith. Their purpose is to protect and defend innocent lives from evil that exists throughout the world.

As the Revengers are heading back to home base, they get a call on their secure frequency. “Revengers do you copy?” “Revengers, this is the NSF (National Science Foundation), do you copy?”

They all look at each other a bit puzzled. Nick grabs the mic, “We copy, what’s this about?”

“We were referred to you by DEA agent Smith, we have a situation, we think you might be able to help. In fact, you might be the only ones that could help.”

“We’re listening.”

“We have a terrorist threat, and from what we can tell, there’s only 5 of them, but they have taken over our US base and are extremely hostile.”

Colt jumps on, “Wouldn’t a counter terrorism unit be able to better handle that situation?”

“In most cases yes, but due to the location, no one wants to take the job.”

Colt, “and that is?”

“Antarctica…”

Again, they all look at each other, this time a little less puzzled. Nick seems to be excited for some reason, while Colt and Dave look concerned as they run scenarios in their head.

“Revengers, do you copy?”

Colt, “Yeah we copy, we’re just trying to figure out how in the world we’d even begin to plot a trip, let alone a mission, to Antarctica”

“We have a small plane in Arizona ready to take you to Argentina, if you’re up for it. From Argentina you can either take a ship or plane, it would be up to you to secure transportation from there.”

Nick, “ I can handle that.” (Colt and Dave both look over at him with a surprised glance)

Colt, “Even IF we can secure transportation, AND pick up arctic gear, how are we going to get the terrorists back to the US for trial?”

Nick, “ I can get us gear too”

Colt, “and how are we going to get them back to the US?”

NSF, “We have an undocumented UN (United Nations) detention center set up in Antarctica, which can easily house the terrorists”

Dave, “You literally have a prison in Antarctica?”

NSF, “That’s correct”

Colt, “You’re confirming an undocumented detention center in Antarctica?”

NSF, “Correct”

Nick, “That’s cold”

Colt on the radio, “Give us a minute please”

(offline) “OK, all kidding aside, what do you guys think?”

Nick, “There are Americans in danger, no one wants to help, and I can lock down transportation and gear, I’m all in.”

Dave, “If Nick can pull through on our transport, I’m in.”

(Colt nods his head in agreement)

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me” (Isaiah 6:8)

“Nick get on the line with your contacts and get us what we need. Dave, it should only take an hour to get to the coordinates the NSF sent over, get us there in one piece. I’ll do some recon work online and see what kind of elements we’ll be up against.”

Nick to NSF, “ We’ll be there in an hour”

The SheepDog blazes through the Arizona desert en route to the take off destination, while the exhaust rumbles on the outside, the inside of the cab is quiet as the Revengers scramble to put together a last minute rescue mission in under an hour.

Colt’s Log: 1

“ Early in the morning David left the flock in the care of a shepherd, loaded up and set out, as Jesse had directed. He reached the camp as the army was going out to its battle positions, shouting the war cry.Israel and the Philistines were drawing up their lines facing each other.David left his things with the keeper of supplies, ran to the battle lines and asked his brothers how they were. As he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, stepped out from his lines and shouted his usual defiance, and David heard it.”    1 Samuel 17:20-23

To me, this is one of the manliest verses in the entire bible. Here we have this shepherd boy, David, destined to be a warrior king but he doesn’t really know or understand any of that yet. He just knows that he has been able to protect his flock with God given strength, abilities, and discernment in the past. He has a confidence that he really shouldn’t have, but his confidence is not in himself but in God through him.

My favorite part of the story is in verse 23 when Goliath steps out like he had, time after time, and called out the Israelites but this time was different. This time David was there, and he heard it. The one word that sticks out to me when I read this verse is “Heard”. If this line were being read in a vocal drama or movie, I feel like thunder would sound and lightning would flash as it was being read. In my mind, David didn’t just overhear it and go back to what he was doing. When Goliath shouted at the Israelites, David took it personal. He probably balled up his fists, his adrenaline likely started to pump, and he was ready to accept that challenge. What he heard that day caused David to be so righteously indignant, he took on that giant Philistine. Not necessarily because he thought it was a good idea, but because he could not let his brothers be humiliated and insulted any longer.

To me, it’s the same feeling that overcomes you when you turn on the news and hear that a woman was assaulted or a child was abused, you have a visceral reaction to hearing things like that and if the perpetrator was sitting there in front of you at that very moment, it probably wouldn’t end well. This isn’t anything to be ashamed of, it’s what makes us men. We are called to be protectors, warriors for our brothers, wives, children, and our families. We are wired to care about and protect those around us. They should feel a sense of security in your presence. Having the capacity for violence makes you a male, but being able to control those feelings makes you a man.

They roll up to the new site, cautiously, It’s an unassuming, small building seemingly in the middle of the desert. In all likelihood, Nerezza has underground tunnels leading back to Mexico in case he runs into any trouble. Using their infrared technology, they’re able to see inside the building. It looks like it’s just him, the girl, and a video camera setup to broadcast his demands to the governor and anyone else that wants to listen. They all look at each other, they know what they need to do, this is what they have been training for. They approach the door, Colt can feel his heart beat faster with every step… Nick gives the countdown with his hand, 3…2…1.

Colt puts his shoulder into the door, knocking it off it’s hinges. Nerezza fires a frightened shot that is quickly absorbed by Colt’s chest plate. Nerezza then puts the handgun to the little girl’s head. Colt starts his sprint toward the girl, as Dave has shouldered his rifle. “These are my dema” “THWIP!” Colt has the girl in his arms, as Nerezza’s lifeless body falls to the floor from Dave’s deadly accurate shot. Knowing his intentions, there was never a second thought. Nerezza was responsible for thousands upon thousands of deaths and a countless number of ruined lives. Not to mention the largest inflow of drugs into the entire state of Arizona.

Colt can feel the girl shaking in his arms, as he takes off his helmet to reassure her. “It’s gonna be ok, we’re the good guys. What’s your name sweetheart?”

“My name’s Allie.”

“It’s gonna be ok Allie, let’s get you home.”

Later, in the DEA’s field office after they reunited Allie with her father the mayor and the rest of her family, our heroes sit around a table with DEA agent Smith debriefing the case…

Agent Smith (who had been working the Nerezza case for nearly 2 years), “You guys know there was a bounty on Nerezza’s head? It’s a small fortune, we never thought anyone would actually be able to get him. He was on the most wanted list for over 3 years! How did you do it?”

Colt, “Nick here had gotten a few leads and heard a lot of chatter around the border from some bad people, he knew something big was in the works. Once he got word that the mayor’s daughter was taken and no one was stepping up to help, he told us about the situation and we formed our little three man band you see here.”

Smith, “So what do you guys call yourselves?”  

Dave, “Colt, what was that verse you kept talking about the other day?”

Colt, “Romans 13:4, For he is the minister of God to thee for  good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”

After what feels like 5 minutes of silence, Nick jumps out of his seat and says,”You can call us the Revengers!”

As the three walk out of the DEA’s field office, the sun begins to rise, warming the vast Arizona desert.

Jericho: Pt. 3

Immediately a dozen or so cartel members rush them, at the same time Nick shoots out the only light in the long hallway. Typically a hallway is not an ideal location to get into a firefight with only 2 ways out (forward or backward), but in the cover of the darkness and with the use of their night vision, the thugs are easily dropped with non lethal .223 rounds (from their modified M4 style short barrel rifles) one by one, as some rush forward and others tried to retreat into the back half of the compound. They’ll wake up in 12-24 hours after being hit with just one round, but by then they will have been cuffed and stuffed by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) after they call it in. The Revengers aren’t there for the cartel, their only mission is to get the girl out safe and sound.

As they get to the suspected holding room, the compound is completely silent. They fear that they may be too late. The door is cracked open slightly, which is never a good sign. Dave signals to Nick to take the front and motions Colt to take the right side. They fall into place quickly and silently. They all have tremendous respect for each other and will jump into place when any of the three feels they know what the situation calls for. Nick pushes the door open only to see two thugs trying to escape through what’s left of the back half of the compound. He shoots one with a tranquilizer round while Colt rushes forward and tackles the second. He quickly cuffs his hands behind his back as they all make their way out of the compound into the Arizona desert.

Colt, staring at the thug through his tactical helmet, with a matter of fact tone intensified by the built in voice altering system , “Where’s the girl?” The guy just stares at Colt, showing no sign that he understood what he just said.

Colt, “Dave, please translate.”

Dave (in spanish), “Where’s the girl?”

The cartel member responds with, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Dave, once again, “Where’s the girl?” And again, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Dave, again very matter of factly, “Last chance, where’s the girl?”

The guy just shakes his head to note that he isn’t going to talk.

Even without speaking spanish, Colt and Nick get a good idea that this guy doesn’t want to say anything. They both spot a massive cement mixer to the side of the building, probably inherited by the cartel when they pushed out the business that used to actually produce a product and employ hard working Americans. Colt and Nick both look at each other, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

Nick pokes his head in the barrel to make sure it’s got enough space to fit their new friend. He pulls a lever and it fires right up, which puts a grin on his face. “She’s ready to go.” Colt pushes the thug over to the mixer, he looks at Nick, seeing his own reflection on Nick’s visor, “Get in.” Even though he doesn’t speak english, Colt knows he understood by the frightened look on his face. With a little help from Dave, he gets him in the barrel of the mixer. Colt looks around at the guys, “You know this interrogation technique could be frowned upon for inciting fear and terror” but follows up with, “but so could kidnapping a little 10 year old girl from her parents.” Colt knows he doesn’t need to explain, as Nick and Dave just nod knowingly.

Nick, “Let’s fire it up.” Dave, “Lock-n-load.”

The mixer begins to spin and they hear some shouting coming from inside the barrel, and he begins to pound on the barrel, indicating he wants to talk. Colt, “That didn’t take long.”

They stop the mixer and pull him out, Dave addresses him in spanish once again, “Where’s the girl.” He then proceeds to tell them exactly where the drug lord has taken her, giving them the best route to take to get there, and even acknowledges the fact that she’s still alive and the drug lord won’t take her life until he knows the governor has complied with his demands. They all turn around and quickly head for the SD-ATV. The cartel crony is left there looking around frantically, Nick looks over his shoulder and nonchalantly drops him with a tranq round. As they jump in, Dave puts the pedal down and the desert sand rolls behind them in the wind like a rising storm as they charge forward toward their newly acquired suspected site. Colt jumps on a secured frequency, “Do we have confirmation on Nerezza?” The DEA jumps on the line to confirm, “Affirmative, he is on the top of our list, permission to bring in, alive or dead.”

“You heard ‘em. We do whatever we have to do to save the girl, no exceptions.”

Nick jumps on the line,”You got about two dozen cartel taking a twelve hour nap at the compound, you might want to pick up.”

“We copy, three vans are being dispatched.”

Colt, “Let’s recap before we head out. The mayor of Sierra Vista’s daughter is our extraction target. She is only 10 years old and is being held captive by local drug cartel. The mayor refused a pay off that would have allowed the drug trade to continue to run freely over the border. The border patrol is nearly non existent in certain hot spots, and local law enforcement isn’t equipped to handle this sort of threat. So we go in, grab the girl, get her out, and drop anyone that doesn’t agree with our plan.”

Nick, “Taking any hostages?”

Colt, “No”

Dave, “Lethal force?”

Colt, “Only when absolutely necessary. Load up with non-lethal rounds, grab 100 rounds of armor piercing ammo just in case. Everyone good with that?”

Nick & Dave, “Yep.”

Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked

Psalm 82:4

Colt prays, “Lord, help us to save this little girl and get her home safe”

Everyone in unison, “AMEN.”

Nick, “Let’s roll out”

They park the SD-ATV about 50 yards out, they’ll be on foot from here on. Colt steps out first as the leader. Colt was a college football player, but now he is a husband and a father. He’s not one of those guys who can’t let his past accolades go, he’s happy to be a dad to a two year old son with another baby on the way. At 5’10 and 210 lbs. he’s not an overly imposing figure, but if you look him in the eye you get the feeling that it wouldn’t be a great idea to pick a fight. He has enhanced strength, speed, and agility due to a adrenaline supplement that he developed for his supplement company (the same company that he sold to help fund the Revengers initiative).

Next out is Dave, he also played college football (so did Nick for that matter, that’s where they all first met). He got recruited into a special forces unit in the US military after college. Dave is the most highly trained member of the Revengers, he is skilled in all manner of weapons, hand to hand combat, navigation, and piloting or driving nearly any vehicle. He stands at 6’0 and weighs in around 260 lbs. He would easily be the strongest Revenger if not for Colt’s adrenaline enhancement. His brawn is only surpassed by his big heart and his love for his family.

Nick is the third and last to step out of the SD-ATV, he has an uncanny ability to lighten the mood when everything seems bleak and hopeless. Aside from being a 6’1, 210 lb. former college athlete Nick was also a field operative for the Federal Information Analysis Association (FIAA), formerly the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). (The name was changed after public opinion went down considerably for the CIA following some suspicious events) It was through Nick’s connections and informative sources that the Revengers were able to assemble for this mission.

They all look at each other, able to see one another clear as day even though it’s pitch black out, utilizing the night vision built into their combat helmets. These helmets were prototype designs that they were able to buy up before they went to production. They are fully bullet proof, and cover the entire head with a visor over the eyes that has anti fog technology along with night vision and thermal imaging. They also have a built in air filtration systems in case of gas, fire, or any unsuitable environments they might encounter. If that wasn’t enough, they also have a built in communications system with a private frequency only the 3 can tap into and it’s supposed to be 100% unhackable. (The communication system might be Nick’s favorite part)

As they head out into the darkness to take down the compound, they all know their entire lives have been leading to this moment. Nick’s experience as a field operative gained him unique skills and expertise along the way, Dave has a list of accomplishments a page long from his time as a special forces operator, and Colt was a reserve police officer in his small town giving him just enough tactical training to fully utilize his enhanced speed, strength, and agility. They approach the front door which looks to be steel and reinforced. Colt glances over at Dave and gives him a nod just before kicking the door in, sending it flying into the dark corridor that awaits them.

Jericho: Pt. 1 The Revengers are a group of highly trained and gifted individuals, inspired by their faith. Their purpose is to protect and defend innocent lives from evil that exists throughout the world. In the not too distant future, American law enforcement has been decimated and local governments are forced to turn to private contractors for help, this is where their story begins. In the not too distant future… an all terrain vehicle rumbles as it gets closer to it’s destination in the Arizona desert, approximately 60 minutes out. The vehicle has a 6×6 drivetrain, 2 tires in the front and 4 tires in the back, which allows it to get through nearly any terrain it encounters. It’s fully outfitted with bulletproof glass, plated armor outside and underneath that can withstand nearly any RPG (Rocket propelled grenade) or IED (Improvised explosive device), the capacity to carry 8 men, and the technological ability to act as a mobile intelligence command center if needed. It’s a mixture of desert brown and black, some would say intimidating, and affectionately called the Sheep Dog (SD-ATV). Today it’s carrying Colt, Nick, and Dave otherwise known as the Revengers. This is their combat vehicle and this is their story… Nick shouting from the back, “Why do I have to sit in back?” Colt (from the passenger seat), “ Have you ever watched the movie Predator?” Nick, “Of course I have.” Colt, “Well, I’m Arnold and Dave is like Billy” Dave chimes in from the driver’s seat, “That makes sense.” Nick, “So does that make me Apollo Creed or Mack?” Colt, “Apollo Creed is a character from Rocky, not Predator” Nick, “Right… I’m more like Rambo.” Colt, “I think you’re missing the point.” 30 minutes later… Nick (still sitting in the back), “You know what’s ironic? The guy with the most US military experience is from Canada.” Dave, “I’m not Canadian!” Colt, “Well you did live there for 3 years and you do speak French” Dave, “ I also speak Spanish and Arabic but who’s counting?” Nick, “You have an accent” Dave, “IF I have an accent it’s from upper Michigan” Nick, “Don’t dress it up.” Read more at www.revengersepic.com
