Summary:

“Do you think we’re stupid?” Liz’s voice was harsh now, almost angry. “The Evans family would never risk losing their prodigy son. We’ve been tracking you since you landed in JFK. We knew you were gonna be at that concert. We’ve got your number, Wesley.” Soul blinked. Then blinked again. One more blink, then realization slapped him across the face so hard that it almost felt like an actual blow. Okay, that explained it. . . . After a disastrous show, Soul runs off only to get held up at gunpoint by weapons in the smallest gang he's ever seen. Mistaking him for Wes, the two take him hostage for ransom. But what started out as a hostage situation slowly turns into an unexpected friendship that changes all of them for good. Written for Reverb 2025.

Ta-da! I come back to this cursed account to start posting again- and this is a quick little piece I made for #reverb2025! I can't thank the mods enough for their superb job at handling all submissions, let alone organizing such a wonderful event- so, thank you @reverbmod!! Here's to another year! --- This is a tiny summary I revamped after I submitted my entry: "From the pages of an ancient, cursed book, beings of paper and ink spill into Death City. These creatures, known as Witches, twist imagination into chaos. Their most dangerous tale given flesh is Crona, a story so powerful it threatens to unravel Death City itself. Only Kid, heir to the first Shinigami, can seal the Witches back into their realm. To stand against them, he grants his elite team, SPARTOI, a new power: the ability to summon weapons born from books—living stories forged for battle."

"He isn't serious..." Both weapon and meister watched as Stein stood up. Each of the candles were lit, a small flame flickering from each of them. "I... think he is." The door slamming shut as Stein left gave them their answer. "He's definitely serious."

A sharp dive threw Maka into the open paneling she was actively repairing, nearly jamming her forehead into completing a circuit. The arcing electricity crackled around her and she pulled back quickly.

Damn Soul for getting them into this mess.

Soul is drafted into an interstellar civil war. Being as he comes from the nobility on the capital planet he is made a captain and has to gather a crew. Maka, an engineer, made a promise together with Soul to not leave the planet without the other. Soul unwilling to leave without Maka, goes to her to try and convince her to join his crew.

As they round out their crew, both are unsure about the morality of the war. In the end they have to wrestle with a choice: Fight for the capital, or join the uprising.

Hey you. Yeah the one reading this.

Come along to meet the big red Wolf, our one and only Spirit Albarn. A handsome fella with golden fingers. He knows how to snatch your wallet like he snatches hearts–and all that without a tie, cause he ain't leashed.

Next up is his best bud Mister Snake-err his name is Franky Stein, but everyone calls him a snake, because well… he is a snake. A Burmese python to be exact, mister morph made of several molts. There's no safecracker better than Franky, and he does all that without any modern equipment (scalpels don't count, right?).

Yeah, this is the part where I, Shark, show up and steal the show! The name’s Tezca Tlipoca, master of disguises. I'm so good, even I don't know if I use magic. Oh, and I'm presumably a bear. I've once been asked if I wasn't a human in a bear suit. The answer to that is ✨✨✨

Now meet Azusa, codename Webs. Hacker extraordinaire, and knows her way around the web like no other.

Finally there's Soul, our little rookie. Codename piranha. A bit of a mini-me and a mini-every one of us, because he's simultaneously the most insane and most normal young man a piranha could be.

That's right, we're the Deathscythes.

And we're bonafide Bad Guys.

"The Black Room opened with the sound of soft jazz playing on the old gramophone. The echoes of what seemed to be rain pattering against an unseen ceiling joined the melody, a new addition ever since they had defeated Arachne. Besides that, everything remained as he remembered it, black and red checkered pattern floors with blue floating teals. Soul sat dressed sharp with his performance attire behind the grand piano, fingers hovering above the keys as if he had been playing just moments ago. He slowly blinks, trying to remember what the hell just happened. Glancing around, he noticed there was… a glass wall of sorts on his right side.

Something was wrong.

Once his eyes adjusted to the dim lights, he noticed there was someone on the other side. A figure that resembled him, down to the pinstriped suit, leaning against the opposite wall to his and arms crossed. When he noticed Soul, he smirked and waved.

-”You!”-

-”Me.” - he mouthed, amused."

A few weeks after arriving, Soul finds himself in the middle of having a stress-induced anxiety attack during his 30-minute lunch break. After all, a stranded alien has to make money somehow, right? And working the grill at Planet Earth’s finest 24/7 diner for slightly above minimum wage felt convenient enough. When he crash landed on Earth, the last thing he expected to find in this random tourist trap beach town is someone from Retsiem. I mean, what are the odds of two aliens from two different planets landing on Earth at the same time? But sleeping on the couch is getting old, and this girl, Maka, is definitely going to need a job in this planet’s economy. Splitting the rent between two recently relocated aliens whose ancestors have a century-long history of butting heads is totally not a bad idea.
