So, 9-1-1 abc. Buck, Bothered and Bewildered ep 07x04, and You Don’t Know Me ep 07x05. I just caught up.
What did I just watch. I’m going out of my mind right now with the emotional whiplash from “here we go again with gay men thirsting for Buck and Buck flirting back obliviously” (and also being low key jealous abt and in love with Eddie, but that’s another conversation) to CANON BISEXUAL BUCK to his awkward first date with a man and subsequently coming out to his sister (and also being low key conflicted abt and in love with Eddie, but that’s another conversation) to inviting the man on a second date TO HIS SISTERS WEDDING.
BUCK. listen I know coming to terms with your queerness and telling your loved ones is difficult. I get it, I lived it. YOUR SISTERS WEDDING IS NOT THE TIME AND PLACE TO GO ON A SECOND DATE (let alone with the first man you’ve dated!)
So, 9-1-1 fox. Buck Begins ep 4x05.
Buck/Eddie teasing aside:
In a flashback, Maddy’s queer-coded co-worker sees a picture of Buck at work as a cowboy in Montana and jokes about him making his way through the Village People (due to his job hopping.)
That is a three-in-one turducken of gay references and (pending bi!Buck confirmation) it might also be a hate crime.

My twelve year old cousin finding out I know what yaoi and BL is and asking me why I never told her.
Listen. Em. My babiest of cousins: I have not been 18 since before you were born. I cannot be having this conversation with you, it is breaking my brain.
Cousin: it’s okay! I’ve been reading stuff even the spicy stuff since I was 9!
Me: *That actually makes it worse, somehow.*

Funny to me to think about the whole "oh you say you don't like <insert website> but you'll gladly reblog content FROM <insert website>" as like... trade exports between nations that all a little bit don't like each other.
"Come try these grapes. They're from Tiktok." "OH Tiktok? Wonderful. They grow the best grapes. We just don't have the right terrain for them here." "I agree. Lovely grapes. Wretched country though, I'd never live there." "Oh me neither. They cancel their peasants in the town square. Speaking of, have you seen the new textiles boypussydilf is selling in the town square? Imported from Instagram!" "Oh amazing textiles, Instagram has. Wretched country though." "Absolutely wretched."

Dr horrible was written during strike but went into production after the strike. Given that and the fact that dr horrible wasn’t written to be produced by a studio, I think dr horrible probably would have been fine under the current guideline quoted.
Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20080822100528/http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Roush-Dispatch/Joss-Whedon-Dr/800042425
Edit: however it was a different time, and maybe stuff like dr horrible is why this is part of the strike guidelines now.
I mean this in good faith I promise- does it not violate strike rules for you to be posting on tumblr about your work? Of course you're proud of it and want to promote it but Amazon is definitely a struck company, and if influencers reviewing the show would count as crossing the picket line, engaging with Fandom on social media would seem very much like promotional work.
The answer to your question is at the WGA FAQs. I've refused to do any mainstream media, TV, panels etc at Amazon's request, but I'm allowed to talk about my own projects on my own social media, especially on an Internet backwater like Tumblr.

The Fucking AMPT(P) and Studios, Man
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: The above tweet thread by Amy Thurlow (@athurlow) from August 23rd, 2023 reads in its entirety:
This proposal (that very much shouldn’t have been released under media blackout) is wild to me for so many reasons. Here’s why it is a giant nothing burger of an offer. 🧵
[this tweet includes an image of part of the proposal that reads:
Required Employment in the Writers' Room
Oh High Budget SVOD and pay television series or serials, the Showrunner may select at least two writers to be employed (together with the Showrunner) for a period of at least twenty (20) consecutive weeks in the writer's room, but not to exceed the duration of the writer's room.]
The Showrunner “may select” aka it is the Showrunner’s choice. This may seem like an out for SRs that don’t want to be “forced” to hire but really it’s a loophole. The studio can just suggest that if the SR makes this “choice” will pay for it some other way.
Maybe that means the studio tells them “we’d really rather you not” or “actually we don’t do that here” — there are a million ways that passing this off on the Showrunner is a way of hiding how little power many Showrunners have — especially if they’re new.
If a SR does manage to hire these two lucky lads for 20 weeks they are not to exceed the duration of the writers room. 🤔 So, if a room is 10 weeks they can’t stay for 20 and be involved in production and post. So they’re just hired for the TIME THEY WOULD ALREADY BE HIRED FOR.
And only for 2 of them when a standard room is no less than 10. But wait, there’s more: this only applies to High Budget SVOD, pay tv and serials — meaning maybe 10% of television that’s made.
The spin is going to be “we gave them minimum staffing” but this proposal is maybe worse than the current system because it codifies the 2 person room as being the Showrunner’s “choice”.
It does nothing to address the broad issues of 4 writers doing the work of 10 and those lucky 4 people not being able to pay their rent bc they have to make 8 weeks of employment with a 25% rep tax last 52+ weeks.
/End ID]
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The above is a tweet from David Slack (@slack2thefuture) quote-tweeting Amy's "The spin is going to be..." Tweet. Also from August 23rd, 2023. It reads:
It’s also worth noting that unless the term “showrunner” is rigorously defined as a writer in our MBA — which it presently isn’t — there’s nothing to stop the studios from saying, “You’re just the head writer. Exec X is the showrunner now and they select zero writers.”
/End ID]
Tumblr media
[Image ID: the above Image is Jose Molina's (@JoseMolinaTV) August 24th, 2023 Quote Tweet of David's tweet that reads:
Happened to me a couple of years ago on an animated show. I had all the responsibilities of a showrunner, but my producers had final call on all things -- like when they took scripts I'd assigned to writers of color and gave them to white guys who weren't even in the room.

The difference between a strike and a boycott is the focus of what is being withheald
In a strike the supply is being withheald because the workers aren’t producing whatever it is.  It works by having the masses demand what the companies cannot produce and therefore, if the company wants to continue providing whatever it is in order to continue making money, they have to listen to worker demands
In a boycott the demand is being withheald because the masses aren’t buying or engaging with whatever it is.  It works because companies, obviously, need to actually sell things in order to function.  The point is to make the company change something about a product in order to appeal to the masses again
That’s why you shouldn’t boycott when a strike is on (unless the union says so) because it kind of cancels out the strike.  If there is no demand then witholding supply is meaningless - again, unless the union says so, since that means they factored it into their industrial action plan and believe it would be beneficial
I know people want to help but the reaction to call for a boycott whenever there’s a strike just kind of…… doesn’t

Sometimes I have a flash back to being 17, exploring concepts of gender and sexuality primarily by interacting with folks on livejournal and very early tumblr. My context for terms like transgender versus transsexual versus transvestite came from whispers on forums and rocky horror picture show, dear lord I knew nothing. Somehow I came to the conclusion that “trans” was a catch all term for all those things, and tr*nny was a diminutive term for the same concept, and I said the tslur out loud once in reference to someone cross dressing, because I thought cross dressing => transvestite => trans => tr*nny. Idk, people don’t talk about those things in high school, nobody ever taught me what a slur was. My parents hardly speak English and I had no friends. How was I supposed to know these things.
In the next few months I was bullied by a girl pretty badly (by the standards of the honors roll class, it mostly came in terms of talking over me in class and isolating me from the others in class) and I had no idea why. It wasn’t until recently, over 20 years later, that I remembered she had responded pretty harshly to what I said in the moment and I realize now she probably thought I was transphobic. Incredibly funny to think that little genderqueer me who was seriously trying to figure out if I should have been born a guy was being bullied for being transphobic. I kind of wish I could tell her what that was all about.

My like 3 mutuals who forgot where they know me from are probably like, hey why is that undergod suddenly super active rn about the wga/sag strikes.
I mentioned this in the tags of a prior post, but it’s a little bit personal for me because my hometown is hella affected by the strikes. Istg the entertainment industry makes up probably 40% if not more of the working population ranging from producers and Oscar winners living at the literal top of the hill to av assistants and hair and make up artists living in mobile home parks at the base of the valley. (40% also includes the equipment rental companies, caterers, editors, vfx artists, and other adjacent industry.)
I have this neighbor who is an exec at a struck company who makes hella bank, and even more with side projects he’s got going. He could definitely withstand a pay cut. So for example he might take a slice of that multi-million dollar salary and buy some out-of-date equipment to rent out. It’s not illegal if you set up your businesses right, and idk if I’d call it immoral since the studio would be otherwise hoarding it in a warehouse somewhere, but I’m just using this as an example of how money begets money for these people. They all do stuff like that. That’s just how capitalism works.
Let’s not forget either that being employed by the studio, executives and admins generally enjoy far greater job stability than nearly any creative in the field. Hollywood is an absolute hellscape to break into; it’s largely a gig economy and even when you get work, projects disappear all the time and you have to go hunting for a new one. Hundreds of thousands in the industry are eking by, surviving on inconsistent contract work, unemployment, and stars in their eyes. The only salvation is getting into a guild, because union approved contracts offer a more standardized and equitable pay scale for tracked levels of experience.
And another the thing: a rising tide lifts all ships. What happens here helps composers, helps the set crews, helps the PAs down the line. #UnionStrong
But also like, I’m looking at my neighbors house on Zillow right now and it’s worth 20% more than his next door neighbor after all the $$ he’s put in it. Fuck that guy.
~~~
Please donate to the community fund to help the strikers and other folks out of work due to the strike. The longer they hold out, the longer they have to fight for their rights.
I commented on this post but reblogging with comments now (local LA politics is my bread and butter):
It’s nice and all for Burbank mayor to show up and support, but he has literally no stake or say in the Universal stuff. He’s just parroting LA’s controller, it’s a totally different government. Its easy for him to show face where he has no ties to the locality. He needs to go home and get opped with the picketers at Warner Brothers since that is HIS turf. If he doesn’t he’s a COWARD.
Edit to add context I learned in the comments, Burbank mayor Konstantine Anthony is a sag member. He actually is picketing with Burbank so I’ll eat my comment on that. I’m not going logging onto Twitter for screencaps, but the Twitter previews when I google his name s show his vocal support for unions in Burbank.
Edit2: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/burbanks-mayor-actors-strike-economic-impact-1235536723/amp/ I like this guy actually. The article carefully quotes him about the hit to the economy like he’s blaming the strike, but he’s clearly just talking factually.
so SAG-AFTRA finally released some official guidance for fans, viewers, creators/influencers, critics, and more during the strike. here's what you need to know:
if you see a publication/news source/journalist talking about a piece of struck work, that's ok. they're allowed to do that.
Tumblr media
2. they're asking regular viewers and fans to DONATE TO STRIKE FUNDS, SHOW UP TO PICKETS IF YOU CAN, and please do NOT boycott streaming services or movies in theaters.
Tumblr media
3. influencers, content creators, cosplayers, and anything in between is still a bit of a grey area, but they're asking people to use their best judgement. "organically" means UNPAID promo (like an invite to a premiere without being paid, being sent a publicity box, letting the company's social media post a photo of you in cosplay, etc).
Tumblr media
obviously this doesn't answer every question, and isn't hard and fast rules for fanworks, but it can at least inform how you personally choose to move forward when posting online and moving publically. i hope this helps!
