Lots of thoughts recently. Everything feels plastic.

I could go on and on about why all that AI "art" is bad. I could mention theft, lack of creativity, it's impact on the work field and environment, but countless people have already said all that. I wanted to touch on something that to me is the most utterly wrong about all of it.

Art is more than just something pretty to look at or listen to. It's therapeutic. It's a form of communication. A tool for human connection. It's a pure, human need.

FINALLY after nearly a week of work, my fursona ref sheet is done!! Meet Peppermint :3 They don’t have a crazy amount of lore like my other sona does, kitty is just a silly lil creechur with fire powers. They do have multiple outfits but the alt is just the main one I wanted to draw!! AND when I tell yall I had to extend this so many times to fit everything I mean it. Like BRAH

This is my sona’s reference sheet!!

Vanny is a human-turned-cyborg, the first successful experiment of fusing a metal robot suit with the human body. Think almost like a springlock suit lol. Once deployed, the metal panels cling onto the host’s body and basically takes over the inside with wiring and various mechanisms that resemble and somewhat replicate a human body’s organs. This is why sometimes blood will drip out of the panels.

Vanny is also a tailmouth. According to lore, tailmouths can only come to be if one of their parents is a tailmouth, or if the host has killed an already existing tailmouth. Since they weren’t one before undergoing “surgery”, it’s wildly speculated that they were forced to kill a tailmouth that was being held within the facility for experimentation to observe how mouthtails, the tail itself, infect the host.

The mouthtail’s name is Minerva, and while it has its own set of organs and brain, it shares a nervous system with Vanny. However, since their nervous system is pretty much nonexistent, Minerva doesn’t feel or share pain with Vanny like normal tailmouth and mouthtails do. Minerva can speak as well, in any language that Vanny can also speak. Since they have two different brains, they don’t share thoughts, though. But even so, both Vanny and Minerva think similarly and work in perfect harmony. Most of the time.

Minerva also has a unique ability to take over the host’s body, if allowed to. This was unheard of, as mouthtails are usually only able to weakly influence the body’s movements at most. Another reason why the original tailmouth who had Minerva was being held for experimentation, but as well as observing the infection of tailmouth to new tailmouth, Vanny’s team of scientists wanted to add another weapon to their arsenal. If Vanny allows Minerva control, their body goes into what scientists have dubbed the “Feral Forme”. Vanny’s fingers deploy huge metal claws, and their jaw will unhinge and their cheeks will tear, forming another set of huge teeth. Fur pokes out from underneath their metal suit, and they seemingly lose the ability to speak or communicate in anything other than roars, growls, or animalistic sounds, since Minerva cannot control Vanny’s voicebox. Minerva will assume main control of the body’s movements and mannerisms. Minerva’s mouth will also fully uncurl, and slightly tear, forming yet another set of massive teeth. They will also get around by leaping and crawling like an animal.

This later proves to be useful, much to the facility where Vanny was held’s misfortune, as they use it to escape.

As for Vanny’s outfit, the shades are cosmetic, but also cover their robotic eye, which is a bit unnerving to look at in the outside world considering they are also missing the eyelid on that eye. The bandages they wear also are cosmetic, but prove to be useful as it sometimes soaks up the little trickles of blood that seep out from underneath the panels. They don’t change them often, at all, since it won’t bother them. They do sometimes, though. The boots add a little oomph as their fighting style consists mostly of kicks, and they have been known to absolutely annihilate an enemy with a stomp to the head if they get caught on the ground. They also using stomping when they are angry or to get attention, much like a rabbit, hence the ears that formed with Minerva. Imagine the cracks in the ground when they are angry lol.

And a Bonus Fun Fact!! Vanny’s body weighs about as much as a small car, about 2,500 pounds, or almost 1.4 tons. They can lift about three times their body weight.

Can’t forget, the latest addition to the Elemental Cats; the higher ups, so to speak! Representing life, death, and the sea itself respectively.

Playing Hacker's Memory made me really want to write about Yu.

Keisuke, the protagonist, was the only person to not mock him or make fun of him. He essentially became Yu's only friend for their entire school life, and Yu was the only person that trusted Keisuke when his account was stolen.

But after Keisuke joined Hudie, Yu felt like he was being left behind as Keisuke kept taking case after case, even having to leave while they talked.

That instilled a sense of envy in Yu, who only wanted to have and keep a friend to the point he became a hacker too, all in order to help Keisuke get his account back WITHOUT Hudie, to prove to Keisuke and even himself that he's not weak, that he won't be forgotten.

And, at least in my eyes, it feels like Yu also loves Keisuke, but is reluctant to admit it. He filed a case to "verify" date spots, and during that case, he says he "almost forgot" Keisuke wasn't a girl and that two boys on a date would be embarrassing. This tells me he has internal homophobia and he's aware of it. But doing this was a step to try to push past it.

And yes, Yu Nogi is a rather feminine guy, but he does voice that he doesn't like being feminine. It makes people view him as weak, when all he wants is to be seen as himself. To be respected as himself.

I'm only on Chapter 11, and Yu doesn't get the most screentime (most of it being the Hudie gang, especially Erika. I love them all too, I'm not saying "oh erika's in the way of the gay ship" or any of that nonsense), but he still feels like a very deep character that deserves to be studied. He's my second favorite throughout the whole game, only behind Chitose and that's just barely. Hell, the two could swap on any given day simply because of Chitose initially dumping shopping on Keisuke for his first "cases" as well as his needless flirtation towards women, meanwhile Yu is immediately shown to be a trusting friend, but we see what could be the start of a villain arc due to him feeling neglected.

And this doesn't go into the question of Why? What is his home like? Is he mistreated? Is he malnourished? Is he neglected? There are so many questions that can be explored, but simply aren't since Yu isn't the main character and it doesn't have a place in the narrative of the story.

Which is genuinely such a shame because Yu is such an interesting character to me. I'm realizing as I'm typing that he's a lot like Kieran from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and that's probably a reason why.

But a reason why Yu sticks out even more to me is because... It's genuine. It doesn't start from a needless lie. It comes from Keisuke essentially doing his job. Since he's a hacker in Hudie, he has to do jobs with Hudie. But because of how involved in them Keisuke becomes, Yu becomes neglected. Especially when Keisuke gets called by Ryuji or Chitose for an urgent manner.

Yu understands this all perfectly well. But the fact that Keisuke does it alone instead of letting Yu help him makes Yu feel weak. It instills a sense of inferiority, which goes into what I said earlier about him wanting to prove himself to not just Keisuke, but to himself as well.

I genuinely love Yu so much, from his design to his personality to how his character overall is developing. It makes you think he's there just for exposition, but he starts becoming more involved in the story and it makes you wonder... Is there more than what's on the surface with Yu?
