The Advent Calendar Riddle #3: Rebus Edition (2024)
Like the year before last, another advent calendar game for this upcoming holiday - a riddle consisting of 25 puzzles, each for every day of December until Christmas.
The game is based on the principle of a traditional advent calendar. Each day, whose number on the calendar page can be pressed, corresponds to an individual puzzle presented in the form of a digital composite image/card. On this image there are clues with Rebus elements leading directly or indirectly to the answer. Each card will remain open, so that anyone can return and consult/revise their previous answers. All answers should be noted down and kept handy, as they will all be needed for the final solution.
Replacing part of the URL with the word or word/number combination that answers each puzzle, access is gained to more information and/or trivia concerning its subject matter. Although this step is not mandatory, it can help verify the validity of each answer, as well as of its formatting. In case of a wrong or incorrectly formatted answer, an error page will appear.
Individual answers and the final solution require EXCLUSIVELY Latin lowercase characters (NO capitals) and/or numbers, WITHOUT spaces, punctuation or other symbols.
If the riddle is completed successfully, rewards await (in digital form).

The Advent Calendar Riddle #1 (2020)
The year 2020 has been - and still is - difficult and sad; celebrations tainted by fear, and a gloomy, subdued summer to boot. The upcoming Christmas holiday already carries a dark, chilly note. So this year, I put together something different: a game. A riddle consisting of 25 puzzles, each for every day of December until Christmas.
Due to the general ambiance, the game's mood ended up tipping towards the macabre - but as my grandmother used to say, "fight evil with evil": instead of forced joy (which brings more depression anyway), I let myself go into a shameless, unrepentant Gothic spree, complete with mysteries, psychological horror and the entire "portfolio".
The game is based on the principle of a traditional advent calendar. Each day, whose number on the calendar page can be pressed, corresponds to an individual puzzle presented in the form of a Polaroid photo/card. On this card there are clues leading directly or indirectly to the answer.

The Cabeirian Horses Riddle (2018)
In Greek mythology, the Cabeirian Horses were a pair of fire-breathing mechanical horses, created by the god Hephaestus so that they would pull the char of his twin sons, the Cabeiri, whose mother was the sea nymph Cabeiro, daughter of Proteus. The Cabeiroi were maleficent demons who caused earthquakes and fires, but also deities of the sea, as well as protectors of metallurgy. They were leaders of the Samothracean Mysteries, celebrated in honor of Demeter, Persephone and Hecate. The Cabeirian Horses were automatons, self-moving mechanical devices - something like today's robots.
Cabeirian Horses is the title of my third original, browser based, URL replacement game, which welcomes you into the Matrix with a light alternate reality layer. Therefore, you still don't need to download or install anything in order to play. Everything happens in your browser window, without any effect on your system's configuration. Some of the puzzles, though, may require using an external application such as an advanced image or music editor (if you don't already have one, don't worry - there are several excellent FREE programs that are useful to keep around anyway). For the best part, Cabeirian Horses was created in pretty uncomplicated, straightforward code that should comply with virtually any browser.
The game's premise is simple: each page is trip-wired contains one or more images, Flash movies, sounds, links or other elements that will give you clues about a word or short phrase you need to guess in order to proceed to the next page. Most of the puzzles are independent but some of them may be inter-related, although not necessarily in a sensible or predictable order. Anyone who has already dabbled in one or more of the existing, famous and infamously brilliant games of the genre should be familiar with the structure and logic of this one.
Hints for the answer to each puzzle can be found everywhere on a page - or in a page. Some websites won't let you see their source code, but this is clearly not the case here. On the contrary, you are encouraged to take a page and its contents apart and examine them as thoroughly as you see fit. Most of the times the hint(s) won't be impossible to find, although as the riddle progresses the degree of difficulty will escalate.
For more info, specific instructions and additional help, please consult the relevant sections of the game's website.

The Bad Wolf Riddle (2010)
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?
A crimson story in black & white, Bad Wolf is more than a simple riddle game; it is in fact an interactive, alternate reality visual novel that unravels progressively. Contrary to its predecessor, The Scorpion Tango, where most of the puzzles were independent, in this game they are inter-related, following a more or less linear underlying narrative.
Bad Wolf is a browser based, URL replacement game, which means you don't need to download or install anything in order to play. The Scorpion Tango Riddle (2008)
It's been done before, and maybe better - but it's still so much fun to create and solve. With clue hunting puzzles that rely heavily on the visual aspect, and whose difficulty range is intentionally kept within reason (if we say so ourselves), The Scorpion Tango aims to avoid intimidating the freshly initiated as well as to pose enough challenge for the hard boiled riddle solvers.
Now you might ask, why The Scorpion Tango? Well, scorpions are mysterious and dangerous creatures. They live in shadows and attack in stealth, and their intricate and entrancing mating dance (what has euphemistically been dubbed a "scorpion tango") is the perfect allegory for love and death being two sides of the same coin. A "scorpion tango" could also be seen as symbolic of the player's quest for an answer, of the many and varied intellectual challenges he or she must go through in order to reach a solution.
The Scorpion Tango is a browser based, URL replacement game, which means you don't need to download or install anything in order to play.
