Something In My Eye, by Callum Beattie.
This is my first release as an independent artist and is taken from my forthcoming album, due for release in summer 2025. The single is all about mental health and features Scottish actors Sam Heughan and Richard Rankin. A share of the profits will go to the charity Mikeysline, who support mental health in the highlands of Scotland and beyond.
For anyone out there struggling with your mental health, this song is for you.

#MiniatureMonday

Poor Richard in Rebus: selections from Poor Richard's Almanack // by Benjamin Franklin; introduction by J. Michael Lennon
Poor Richard in Rebus contains a series of visual riddles, where images are used in place of some parts of words. Rebuses have been around since the Middle Ages, where they were often associated with heraldic expressions.
Do the pictures above stump you? Don't worry, the back of the book contains an answer key to these riddles.
This miniature book is the perfect match for anyone who liked to watch the late 1980's game show Classic Concentration!

For #InternationalBatAppreciationDay:
#LuckyBats spotted at the The Frick Pittsburgh’s Chinese Porcelains exhibition! 🦇

Porcelain vase with enamel decoration, China, Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period (1723-1735), c. 1730.

#LuckyBats: The center medallion of 2 joined #bats encircled by 7 more is a #rebus, or visual pun - the Chinese word for bat is “fu,” a homophone for the word for "good fortune,” and “nine” is also a homophone for “long-lasting.” It was likely a wedding wish for a happy marriage.

Rebus unveils first look as BBC acquires reboot of hit crime drama
Outlander's Richard Rankin stars in the new detective drama.
Crime drama fans, the BBC has acquired another surefire hit of a series - and is bringing Rebus to our screens this spring.
The series, which was the first UK drama commission from Viaplay, will air on BBC Scotland, BBC One and iPlayer soon, and is based on the best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by award-winning author Ian Rankin.
Previously announced back in 2023, the show stars Richard Rankin (Outlander) as Detective Sergeant John Rebus.
It is, of course, not the first time that the Rankin novels have been adapted for the small screen, with ITV's Rebus adaptation airing between 2000 and 2007 and starring John Hannah and Ken Stott in the title role.
The new series, however, sees a younger Rebus drawn into "a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality".

Milestone Monday

March 18th is the birthday of acclaimed American novelist, poet, and short-story writer John Updike (1932-2009). Updike was inspired to become a writer by his mother’s attempts to get published during his childhood and recalled fondly the memory of her writing desk with all its admirable equipment. By his early twenties, Updike had published a poem in the New Yorker as well as a collection of poetry with Harper & Brothers. His early successes went on to spur a prolific and varied career that included being one of only four writers to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction more than once in 1982 and 1991.
To mark what would have been Updike’s 92nd birthday, we’re sharing his signed limited-edition chapbook Five Poems. Published in 1980 by Bits Press out of Cleveland, Ohio, Five Poems is letterpress printed in an edition of 185 copies with a hand-sewn binding and a clever rebus cover drawn by Updike.

my headcanon about rebus is that he lived with a flock of owa'stryus for a while as they were teaching him to write and in turn he also adapted owl-like mannerisms
