Piper and Percy exchange a secretive glance that does something not altogether unpleasant to Jason’s insides. “It’s a rescue mission,” Percy whispers.
Jason frowns. “Rescuing who?”
“Ethel.”
“Who’s Ethel?”
“A baby Hippocampus,” Percy says matter-of-factly. “She’s stuck at the bottom of the Sound, all tangled up in these fishing nets. Her mom’s worried out of her mind.”
“She’s going to be fine, though,” Piper says. “We’re on it.”
The two of them exchange the quietest of all high-fives. Jason stares at them, taking in Piper’s confident smile and Percy’s barely-repressed excitement, and wonders how he ended up being the third wheel in this equation.

feeling like one of percy's siblings watching him leave the country to get married to a near stranger.
