I feel like when it comes to berserk, so many people miss pivotal facets of guts’ character. you’ll see him being praised as ‘badass’ or ‘manly’ and have the ultraviolence he revels in glorified when the reasons he engages in many of these things tend to be single minded and are detrimental to his growth and relationships. admittedly, the way miura depicts the things that guts does in the series is really fucking cool and fun but the consequences are consistent. when he isn’t fighting to protect people, he ends up hurting himself or alienating his companions. as he moves from his violent, isolated upbringing to knowing peace and friendship (even confronting rickert who has reconciled with the eclipse and moved on), he finds himself putting his quest for vengeance on the back burner in order to fix and maintain the relationships he has. this is all intentionally meant to contrast who he was at the earliest in the series where he was arguably at his lowest as a character
