Fellow Gravity Falls fans, it is with great excitement that I reveal, the script to Not What He Seems!!

In 2015, a guy named Mason McGrew won a contest Alex Hirsch was hosting by making this awesome stop motion video of the theme song with the VinylMation toys!

His prize was the entire script to Gravity Falls' biggest episode!

I reached out to him last week and he graciously scanned every page and gave me permission to release it for you all to read.

There are some differences in it to the actual episode. Some funny and some...I'm gonna go cry now ;-;

It just occured to me that Stan technically canonically liked to draw, so here's my take of what Stanley's sketchbook would have looked like had he never gave up on art :]

Stanley first found this sketchbook left behind in a dumpster next to a library. The rings that once held the pages together were broken and warped, so he instead fashioned himself a jury rigged binder by weaveing one of his shoelaces through the holes in the side. In the end, it was essentially just a stack of barely held together paper, but he was still satisfied with it.

Pencils were easy enough to snag from the store since they fit so easily inside his pockets; but he had to settle for the shitty stubby pink erasers that barely did its job on the end of the pencils if he made any mistakes.

Stanley wasn't much of a poetic guy, and he didn't do the kind of art that had deep symbolism or meaning behind them. He was more the kind of artist that just drew what was in front of him, plain and simple. Had he been younger, he might have been able to fill in this cobbled together sketchbook in a matter of days, page after page filled to the brim with creatures and adventures of the wildest dreams.

Well, Stanley wasn't exactly a sprightly young child anymore with a boundless imagination to take inspiration from, but 10 years was a long time to be on the road and moving around, so there was plenty for him to draw.

(My primary goal was just to make these pages look as realistic as possible, but I did add in mini backstories in each of the pages' image description, if you feel like reading that :])

omg this is great! love the thought process behind the design

atelier falls ... apprentice witches dipper and mabel, as well as brimhat bill

under the cut is me rambling abt the designs (plus bonus drawing)

idk if its noticeable but i wanted like... their hats to resemble their associated symbols (dipper with the pine tree - pine tree shaped like tassels??? mabel with the shooting star - long ribbon with a star charm on the end)

added constellations to dipper and glitter meant to mimic star clusters to mabels dress... i like associating space with the twins, also wanted to keep their core colours

bill's ink wand/cane is made out of birch! since he's often associated with birch trees in the show .. also the little eyes i thoguht would be neat. also idk if they make ink wands this big but i imagine he's very precise with it ??

the leaves are birch leaves... silhouette is meant to mimic a triangle.... just a ton of eye imagery here. the tassels of his hat is meant to mimic his triangle forms little hands LOL which leads me to this doodle

often doesnt use his own two hands and relies on these tendril-like little guys... to do gestures, to apprehend people, etc. i got inspired by engendale and his leeches kind of
