Rin and gai thoughts. they coulda been besties

Gai: HI, RIN!! Rin: Hi, gai! How're you? Kurenai: Why are you the way that you are? [rin laughing] rin: Happy birthday! Kks: He's trying so hard not to cry Rin: You like kakashi too!? Gai: Y-yes? Some more Rin, and I'll introduce my OC. Still working on their color palette, but working idea so far is their name, Tori Izumo and them being elder sibling to Tenma Izumo (Itachi's teammate + Obito killed him)

Rin and Tori are friends/rivals much like Sakura and Ino. While Rin specialized in Medical Ninjutsu, Tori focused on the Transformation technique for utility and combat. (Think like a D&D druid if Rin was a cleric)

I've thought a bit about the crushes, because Obito having a crush on Rin was a pretty big plot point, and then Rin's crush on Kakashi. I don't know if for Tori they should also have a crush on Kakashi, like parallel to Sakura/Ino, or if Tori has a crush on Obito and that is why they compete with Rin so much.

Another idea, because I want to make a parallel scene where Sakura asked Ino if she had a crush on Sasuke, Rin asks Tori what they think of Kakashi. I was thinking of making Tori's dad the teammate that Sakumo saved and the friend who turned on him. Specifically, Tori will remember seeing Kakashi at his father's funeral and listening to things people were saying, and Tori's father being the one who said, "It's like I killed you, ain't it? I never asked you to, y'know. So not only do you up and quit the mission, you kill yourself? What a sorry excuse of a man." (from the novel) And Tori feeling the guilt if growing up with a father responsible for ending Kakashi's dad's life. So, Tori's feelings towards Kakashi is both seeing how lonely he is and wanting to be a friend to him, but also feeling the guilt from their father's actions.

Leading into this, Tori watching Obito approach Kakashi and be there for him is how they developed feelings.

The Otherside

I had a couple of ideas for a fanfic of Rin Lives AU, but ultimately I really want to draw a comic. So, I'll try to post my story boards and concepts here as I go.

Current narrative ideas:

one idea was Rin dies, but wakes up in an AU where she is the only survivor, and the story is her being the jinchuriki and over coming her grief. But I considered it longer, and I do want to draw full team Minato together, where Rin grows up, and the team just faces differen challenges and risks than in OG Naruto tale.

Then while trying to figure out how Rin doesn't die, I had the idea either Minato just pops in and stops her, or I also have a concept for an OC. Basically thinking giving Rin a "foil" friend similar to Sakura-Ino dynamic. As Naruto's main theme is main character and their friend + over coming turmoil. So with Rin as the main character OC would be the opposite of her and the two would come to odds.

I also have an idea where the "path of destiny" remains, the original events in Naruto still happen despite Rin being alive this time. Obito leaves the village and becomes Akatsuki Tobi, etc. I'm still workshopping how and why, but I'm thinking it would relate to the Uchiha/Konoha schism.

Also I would really like some suggestions for Rin jinchuriki headcanon, theories, etc, to help with stringing along Rin's story.

The recent Minato comic gave me some ideas, like parallels between Kushina and Grandma-Uzumaki (Mito) conversation. Where Kushina would show Rin the spiral staircase Mito showed her, and give her the same speech.

R.I.N : Reincarnated Into Naruto

Have always thought about a Rin Lives AU, but never put any work into actually making a fic or art about it. So making a blog to post all my progress.

Drew this adult Rin a bit ago, I've since drawn a bunch of WIPs of Rin since then, which i will post eventually as well.
