Okay but

Someone making a crack about how Cas is in love with Dean, and Dean gets kind of flustered but still manages some witty one-liner to shrug it off. Except then Cas turns to him, all “But it’s true.”

And Dean is speechless for a moment, kind of floundering, eventually saying, “Well, yeah, but they didn’t just mean that you love me, they meant you’re in love with me.”

And Cas just shrugs. “Well, yes.”

Because it doesn’t occur to him for even a second that Dean wouldn’t know. Except then Dean’s face goes pale, mouth slack, and the realization hits that maybe he doesn’t know.

Neither one of them says anything, the conversation diving into awkward silence. And it’s not until like three days later that Dean comes up to Cas, out of the blue, and mumbles, “You know I… uh, me too?”

“You what?”

Only Dean can’t spit it out, even now, so instead he reaches out and takes Cas’ hand, carefully threading their fingers together, all the while looking at some spot just over Cas’ shoulder and blushing furiously.

“Oh,” is all Cas can say, completely overwhelmed, but he squeezes Dean’s hand softly.
