Seriously I went through the full dark romance pipeline: betrayal, sacrifice, redemption arc and power couple ending with three kids. And honestly?? i’m effing glad they ended up together and above all i’m effing glad his character wasn't watered down. He’s still his same commanding and somehow controlling self, which is so perfectly in character for a possessive, trauma-forged, delusionally ambitious husband. And also??? He satisfies her in bed (they reproduced like rabbits for a reason), she’s wrapped in luxury, doesn’t even have to leave the house if she doesn’t want to, and her word is law to the one man who could ruin lives for her. Sing me up. For some reason I love that their relationship feels so... insular. It’s us against the world in our secluded home type of thing.
Twas a pleasure sticking to this branch till the end and see the outcome.

Mehmed got everything he thought he wanted: power, an empire, victory. The empire flourished, he was the great Mehmed the conqueror. It’s like he tried so hard to be the Sultan his father never believed he could be. But at the cost of the only thing that ever truly mattered to him. And he was cursed, and Lale was gone. And now he has to live forever with that knowledge, with that regret, unable to escape it. No redemption, no peace, just an endless existence haunted by what he did.
He’s not just trapped in Istanbul, he’s trapped in his own mind, reliving his choices, drowning in what ifs. He probably replays every moment, every decision, wishing he could go back, knowing he can’t. That’s… agonizing. At least that’s how it was until he met with Lale’s reincarnation.
And now that they met again.... he’s had centuries to reflect on his mistakes, to live with the torment of losing her. He knows he won’t get another chance if he ruins this one. It’s like he’s walking a tightrope between making things right and not scaring her away, but at the same time, he’s still him: dominant, possessive, but more in control of his emotions and reactions.
This is not a common love story. It’s the kind of love story that devours both of them, consuming them across centuries. Mehmed’s love for Lale is twisted, possessive, selfish, and yet utterly devoted. And I honestly see Mehmed calling her his queen now as his way of rewriting the past. This time, she won’t be someone else’s. This time, she won’t be lost. He sacrificed her once, thinking he was doing what he had to, and paid the ultimate price: eternal regret. Now he is still the same possessive man, still intense, but now he understands what he lost and what it feels like to lose her. And he will not make the same mistake again.
This is all from the perspective of a Mehmed romancer, it doesn’t apply for those who have another LI.

Hold on... so the Sultan would rather put a newborn in line for the throne instead of trusting Mehmed? Seriously? It’s a highly unstrategic decision, as it will bring instability to the empire due to the lack of a clear ruler. This would not be beneficial, there would be tons of chaos and rebellions or rebellion attempts. And I understand Mehmed’s pain regarding this, it must cut deep, not just because it’s about power but because it’s about his father’s love and trust. He heard his father’s words, so he now understands that it’s not just distrust, it’s rejection. No matter how intelligent Mehmed is, no matter how much potential he has, his father has already decided that he’s a lost cause. And the worst part is that Mehmed probably believes it, too.
And I resent the Sultan. He keeps hurting the people who are close to him with his foolish decisions. First, he caused his sister’s death (Lale’s mother), and second, he’s always been a terrible father to Mehmed. Instead of guiding him, helping him become a better leader, he just threw him away. It’s like he wants Mehmed to fail, to prove him right. No matter what Mehmed did, he was either a burden or a threat. He’s spent his whole life being treated like a mistake. That kind of rejection is suffocating.
And the first time Mehmed was sent away wasn’t even his fault, that was pure neglect. His father should have been there for him after his mother’s death, should have given him love and stability. Instead, he just discarded him, setting the stage for all of Mehmed’s issues with obsession, control, and violence. Mehmed probably learned that love is something unstable, something you have to take before it’s taken from you. So he stays trapped between obsession and self-destruction, between wanting to claim Lale and wanting to push her away. He’s not just violent or dominant, he’s deeply, fundamentally broken.
And it’s tragic because if things had been different, if he had been loved properly, he might have been a completely different man. But instead, he’s this wounded, volatile storm of a person.
This is not an attempt to justify; it’s an attempt to understand.

I feel so bad for him. He’s saying all these hurtful things because he’s so deeply hurt that he’s tryna play it lightly to cope. It makes me feel guilty but I don’t regret choosing Mehmed. I’m sorry Noe :(
