The Lying Eyes Of Spring
The Season Of Love-Spring
"There's so much novelty in the spring, and there is so much more colour, new smells, people take their clothes off and you can see more of them. And so there is a lot of new stimuli that trigger the brain and drive up dopamine, and make you more susceptible to love." ~~~
Same old crowded street as always but he never did notice, neither any places nor those wandering souls. It never bothered him that every next second there was a new face who is dealing with their own life problems. He is cut-off from this world; he is never bothered by anything and not either by himself. He just keeps on imprinting his foot-marks at all available places. The sky is bright blue, air is thin and blowing while he is searching for the place where he actually belongs. He deviates to the left and starts crossing the road with red-light intact on the pedestrian sign. He is completely unaware of the surrounding nor of the red light or vehicles passing by. He is lost in his own illusion when suddenly a tight grip on his wrist pulls him back to the bank of the road.
"Do you wanna die or something?" A girl cries in her taut voice while her eyes widen in disbelief.
"Well...it's not like I am alive either..." He responds toneless looking down at the road.
You surely talk less but whenever you open your mouth, some big words come out of them. What are you...a tragedy king? Drop your deadpan face, Jerk.
"Sorry, but in anyways do I know you?"
"You can't be fucking serious?" "Pardon me. But are you fucking serious?"
"Don't you remember me from yesterday? Rain?...roof?...Being a jerk?" She tries her best to make him remember about their meeting from the day before.
"If I would have...I would know you, right?" He says in a throaty voice staring right into her eyes.
Her face goes all red again but this time she tries to relax herself down. She takes a deep breath and extends her right hand forward in a friendly manner and introduces herself in a soft tone," I am Sophie. Nice to meet ya."
"And I am Aiden." He replies in a soft tone looking away at the street signs.
"So you do know your name."
"Sorry?" He says with a quizzical expression.
"Nothing."
"coffee?" She asks him pointing at the coffee house centred on the right side of the road.
He nods and they drift towards the coffee house without talking.
He never noticed the girl before but her consent towards her and the way she talks, slightly annoying, compelled him to believe that someone is there for him who wants to know him and treats him equally. He feels a silent peace in his heart, there is a new feeling blooming within his heart which is still unknown to him. They take the seat by the window and seat facing each other. She orders a cappuccino and he also orders the same. They wait for the coffee to arrive while they both search for the words to start the conversation. She breaks the ice between them.
She puts both of her hand on the table and places her face on them and asks, "So, What is the deal with forgetting and ignoring things?"
"Do you know me? Have we met before?" He becomes alert by her question.
"Sort of."
"Well...it's complicated." He answers while his dead eyes look at the empty table trying to ignore the question.
"Your Highness. Please elaborate in simple words then." She says in a bit harsh tone and then winks at him in apology biting her tongue.
"Okay. Well, I will tell you but you do not freak out." He says with sparkling eyes as if he was waiting for that question from a long time. He wants to answer those questions and want to be close and friendly with others too.
She nods and then puts up a serious face.
"I have Schizophrenia..." he describes everything to her.
"That's what you call a problem, Bleh. You are absolutely fine and normal." She exclaims and gives a wide array of a smile.
His fear of people is slightly fading away after he hears her say. He can now hear the surrounding noise and soon the waiter comes taking their cappuccino. She passes the cappuccino to him but he keeps on hearing the echoes of her words. He feels a gentle wind caressing her neck. This is the first time; he has the regular chilled fresh feel as he always felt while staring at the water under the bridge during spring. He can see his image within his heart but faintly.
"You just need fresh air and a companion like me." She says, sipping the cappuccino while staring at him from the corner tip of her eyes.
She sees him being serious and then giggles. He looks at her and the way she smiles intrigues a new feeling within him and a faint smile occurs at his lips.
"Dang it. I told you, you need someone like me." She encounters biting her lips immediately looking at his faint smile.
He remains silent and sips his cappuccino little by little. He feels mesmerized by this new warm feeling which is causing his stomach upset. He wants to savour this moment, this new realm of feeling and keep it buried within him for forever.
"What is your number?" She asks putting down her cup.
He didn't catch her words and keeps drinking as he just happens to catch a glimpse of a kid joggling around while her mother tries to make her sit. He gets lost in the moment and keep on staring at her smile and all the nuisance she is doing and yet enjoying in that no-moment.
Happiness is not what you search for, it is what you make out of any given situation. It is not an art rather just a belief and satisfaction.
Sophie taps on the table twice knocking him down from his virtuous dream. He gets startled and his body shakes in awareness.
"I am sorry. Is everything okay?" She hands him napkin while her eyes flash guilt and concern for him.
"I am fine. Nothing to be afraid of." "What were you asking for?"
"Your number!!"
He writes down his number on a napkin and hands it to her. "But no one ever calls me." He says while handing her the napkin.
"Don't worry. I was not before..."
He remains silent and just tries to understand her words. She pays the bill and they walk out of the coffee shop. While exiting he sees the little girl standing near him at the counter, he takes out a candy from his pocket and gives her. She stares at him for a various suspicious reason, he looks scandalous and broke. Sophie passes a wide smile to the girl and she smiles back accepting the candy and runs to her mother.
"So you like kids, huh?"
"It's just a thing. I do not know. It just happened, there is no reason to hate them either."
"Okay then, see you later." She says and moves forward to hug him but he moves backwards. She stretches her teeth raising her eyebrow and passes a fake smile. He is socially awkward and he doesn't realise it at all. He nods and turns back and saunters towards his new destination.
Sophie sees him fading away in that crowd and she too starts to walk away towards her own destination.
He soon finds himself laying down on the bed under the same old rusted ceiling. Soon, he starts to miss something; maybe a feeling which he wants to desperately keep within him. Little by little the unknown feeling has started to fade away with the gentle breeze of the spring. But this time it is different, he is determined to savour it so he takes out his mobile and make a note of everything that happened today and puts his mobile upon his chest and hides his face with his right hand, only eyes popping out.
He is just tired and filled with emotions which are not for him. He then gently closes his eyes and assembles all his feeling and memories in his mind. Within no time, he falls asleep without taking any sleeping pills. He is lost yet is in the process to find.
The new era of spring has just begun; will it bring any good?
