learning that addiction is a progressive narrowing of the range of things that make one happy was kinda life changing for me. i apply it to everything not even just addiction i am always checking to ask if i am narrowing my range of happiness or widening it

jon being silly-goofy for so much of season 5 ("methinks the spider doth protest too much," playing I spy, etc) but it's because the eye is in full power and pumping him with so much dopamine that he actually has the energy to goof around. he's full of energy and endorphins but it's all because he's powered by everyone else's suffering. makes you think.

Started reading Jekyll and Hyde today, this is peak fiction, was NOBODY really gonna tell me that people straight up think that Hyde's either blackmailing Jekyll for being homosexual or is Jekyll's sugar baby??? Absolutely amazing, 10/10, give me 14 of these rn and I'm so glad I got the clothbound copy since it explains the historical context of blackmail and homosexuality at that time

I know Robert and Everly probably tried to act like their wedding was bormal but I think it'd be so fucking funny if they just did everything in their power to avoid doing anything romantic whatsoever.

They say their vows—custom written ones that read more like "I'll still wear my wedding band when you die because it's really expensive and it'd be kind of a waste to stop wearing it but I'd wear it on a different finger so that people know I'm not married"—and the priest says Robert can kiss the bride only for Everly to loudly ask "OH CAN WE CUT THE CAKE NOW???" To which Robert agrees because he's apparently been starving this entire reception. (He doesn't even finish his slice of the cake when they cut the cake.)

The Solanki family members, still hopelessly naïve, are quick to make them half-heartedly promise that they'll kiss for a photo once they finish eating and the newlyweds agree except they're both stalling like crazy. Lanyon keeps bringing his slice of cake to Jekyll to discuss the "science behind it" and steers the conversation into "Oh, this guy's been my science tutor for awhile! Ask him anything, he's brilliant!" whenever any Solanki tries to pry him away from Jekyll; meanwhile, Everly has been curled up behind a tree somewhere nearby writing poems and eating cake her bridesmaids keep routinely bringing to her.

The Solankis eventually try to get Hastie to do something about this and he refills his wine glass then walks over to where Robert and Jekyll are speaking to talk some sense into his son. The Solankis give him a few minutes before realizing that he clearly wasn't even talking to Robert at this point. Instead, he seemed to have just gotten caught up in a conversation with Jekyll about the latter's thesis.

So, yeah, wedding amply self-sabotaged.
