One of my favorite tropes is character with a nasty toxic personality who tries very hard to do the right thing anyway

Sometimes it feels like you've lived your whole life in a house that's always a little bit on fire. Like it's usually just in one room and you make sure to wet the walls around it so it doesn't spread and that usually works. You were expected to take more responsibility over fire containment when you were like seven because it's not like you can expect your parents to always be 100% on guard about making sure the whole house doesn't catch fire, and you figure that's just how things are like.
And sometimes as a kid you visit your friends' homes and some of then whisper to you - grimacing with embarrassment - about how they're not supposed to tell anyone this, but there's a whole room in their house that's currently on fire. And you're like yeah it's ok I'm not supposed to tell people about the way our house is a little bit on fire all the time, too. And then you visit some other friend's house and there's no trace of fire anywhere, and you think "wow, these people are really good at hiding their house fire."
And one day you show up to work like "hey sorry I'm late, I forgot to wet the walls before going to bed last night and my whole house burned down", and you're startled by the way people react, acting like that must be the worst thing that has ever happened to you. And you're just like "chill, it's been years since the last time this happened, and it wasn't even that bad this time", and that just makes people more shocked, acting like that's the weirdest and most concerning thing they've ever heard anyone say, which only confuses you more.
And then someone tries to explain to you that people aren't supposed to have an ongoing house fire. Most people actually never experience a house fire in their lives. Like not even once. Not even a little bit. The normal amount of having your house be currently on fire is zero.

i definitely think protest safety info being spread around is a good thing and i also think it's always better to be safer than sorry. but unless you're in a major city, your local protest is probably going to be a group of like 30-150 people holding signs in a park. and like it's yes again it's always good to be safe over being sorry. but honestly i feel like a lot of people get intimidated by the idea of a protest and then just don't go. but, like, if you can stand (or sit! you can bring chairs!) for a few hours in a crowd of 30-150 then you're probably more prepared for a local protest than you think.

Honestly, I love her T. Kingfisher writing. It's unusual to read stories about middle aged people falling in love without the insane rush of youth. Like, yeah, I love you. But I also have a life already. So do you. Can we fit into each other's world? Do we need to, or can we build an extension, so this isn't all consuming and enmeshing? I want you, but my back is gonna hate me if we fool around that way. Can we do this instead?
Her fairy tales are dark enough to make the light parts striking and beautiful. There's no saccharine here. And it's so good.
I really, really like her books! I always recommend.

I can't do much but maybe this will interest someone. This cookbook is by a classically trained autistic chef, made for people with sensory issues. It's sold 1/6th of its initial run because apparently no one wants to have an autistic person interviewed on TV.
Apparently it's also very funny.
Spread this around! I bet someone here can use this.

Can't find the post but, someone on here headcanonned that Murderbot is a pirate (the torrenting kind), the way it speaks of Sanctuary Moon. It switches from Episode Number to Season Number fluidly, because it downloads bootleg torrent files which means no standardised Episode Numbering System.
These examples aren't pulled from the books but essentially, when Murderbot says "...from Epsiode 678 of Sanctuary Moon", and in another incident, "...from Season 16 of Sanctuary Moon" (or even the other shows it's watched). That's like sourcing parts of a show from EZTV and the other from YTS. But enough about that.
I posit that Pirate!Murderbot actually IS canon, and can be found in text.
Remember those "advertisements" SecUnit gets perpetually annoyed with? Those 'step on it and it blasts noisy, flashing adverts on your face' kind that it always complains about. Iirc it complained about them on Exit Strategy, during the rescue mission; and while in the PresAux space station, it was glad there weren't many of said adverts.
A rogue bot construct that's essentially a supercomputer with the capacity to hack into complex computer systems in a heartbeat, doing everything in its power to circumvent official lines and Avoid Ads At All Costs, piggybacking on existing communication networks just to get access to security, surveillance, AND restricted, paywalled media...
You cannot tell me it ever pays for a Netflix/Hulu/Prime/etc subscription in its entire existence. Absolutely no way its giving corpos any credits for access to the entertainment feed. That murder machine sails the high seas, 100%. And if it were alive in our time, it's definitely best of friends and cohorts with Fitgirl, QxR, FLUX et al. Heck I'd even argue Murderbot is probably just TGXGoodies irl.
Oh, and without a shadow of a doubt, Murderbot is one of the mods of r/piracy.

True facts.
The bi pride flag is, in my opinion, prettier.
I'm also old enough to have come out when the options available were gay, lesbian, straight, or bi. And I'm a creature of habit like that.
I think its valid that my girlfriend prefers to call herself bisexual instead of pansexual because she likes having purple in her flag instead of yellow.

The fact that animals that care for their young will sometimes adopt others' lost or orphaned young to raise along their own is just funny to me. I know that it's all hormonal and there's no conscious thought involved in it, but the internal logic of it is so funny.
"Baby = success. More baby = more success. I have one baby and I found four other baby. I have five baby. I am being so fucking successful right now."
