davina-yuengâ:â
Davina was in her own world, sipping on her tea while reading articles on her phone. Her ability to focus in high volume places was a gift she was grateful for, especially in a coffee shop. It wasnât until a man stuck his hand out that she looked up. âIâm sorry, what was that? Something about catsâŚâ she had heard bits and pieces, but she didnât think the other was talking to her. Either way, she shook his hand and smiled in return, âDavinaâŚâ
River chuckled light-heartedly at Davina. âCats, yeah,â he said as he shook her hand and smiled at her. âI just hate them. So much,â he giggled, âitâs nice to meet you, Davina.â The smile on his face grew wider as he faced the girl, taking another sip of his coffee, âwhatâcha readinâ?â He asked her curiously, wondering if it was just social media or if it was anything interesting. Either way, he was open to hearing about it. Whether he was over stepping boundaries with his question or not didnât seem to phase him either way, and he patiently waited for her response to his question.

âThanks.â James grinned up at him before he placed his drum sticks into the holder, climbing to his feet. âI really should have been paying more attention.â Though is stomach gave a nervous churn when he asked for James to check him out. This was the part that always made him a nervous mess, even though there were step by step directions taped down by the register to walk James through it. He was always scared that heâd mess it up somehow and then heâd have an angry customer on his hands. Sure, he could stock shelves and talk music all day with customers but having to actually do customer service things was still a struggle for him. Even if he had been working here for Ed for what had to be months now. âNo problem, and yeah, I do work here.â He laughed softly and motioned for the other to follow him back up front, James slipped behind the counter and took the record, grinning when he saw it was The Beatles. âOh this is one of their best records by far.â He said with a nod before he glanced down at the post it note. âSorry this might take me a few seconds to get you checked out.â He admitted, a slight flush of his cheeks. Carefully he read over the first few steps, putting the code into the register, his brow already furrowing some as he worked his way through. Sometimes he felt like he wasnât good enough to be working for Ed, that he could find someone who knew what the hell they were doing, and who didnât forget to do this every time he came to work. He hit a wrong button, causing the register to beep, and James swore under his breath. âSorry-â He muttered again, âTraumatic Brain Injury, takes me a bit longer ringing stuff up.â James explained before he worked his way back through, finally grabbing the record and putting in the code for it. Since it had taken him a while, he felt bad, and quickly added the friends and family discount code. âItâll be $21.89.â James finally said as he looked up at the man, offering him a very apologetic smile. âGave you the friends and family discount since it took me way too long to get you rang up.â
âOh no, youâre fine,â he gently waved off his apology for not paying attention. âYouâre super talented, Iâm glad I got to hear you play a bit.â As the two of them walked up to the front of the store and James took the album from his hands, he complimented the album. âI agree,â he smiled at him, âmy mom loves The Beatles, and this is the last album she needs to complete her collection.â He watched as James rung him up, noticing how frustrated he was getting. âHey, donât worry. Youâre doing great,â River flashed a big smile at him, hoping to help him feel better about struggling to work the cash register. âA lot of buttons and stuff,â he chuckled lightly. âDonât be sorry, I donât mind, really,â he smiled again as James handed the record back to him. âThanks for the discount, though. You really didnât need to do that, but I appreciate it.â Before he turned around to leave, River spoke without thinking, âdo you maybe wanna hang later? I gotta be somewhere now, but let me write down my number or something,â he looked at James, realizing how awkward his question was but not really caring much. River had never really cared about embarrassing himself, so he shrugged off the awkward feeling and waited for a response.

âLouisa, come back here!â The blonde shouted at the park. That corgi mix may have been small, but somehow, sheâd snapped her leash in half (granted, it was like three years old and Lou had chewed through it several times, Millie just hadnât had enough time to buy another one). Thankfully, someone seemed to stop the dog. It wasnât too hard, Louisa would stop to be pet by anyone who offered, honestly. âOh, thank you so muchâ Millie said, out of breath with a small smile âGood God, I never thought she could ran this fast, you scared the life out of me, LouLouâ @codstartersâ
River knelt down on the ground as the little pup trotted up to him, his hands brushed over his fur as he petted the dog. âAw, what a precious doggie,â he smiled at the dog as the girl ran up behind it. âYeah, of course!â He smiled widely at her as he stood up again, the dog at their feet. âIâm sure that was scary. I know if my dog, Sage ever ran away like that, Iâd freak too,â he chuckled lightly as he shoved his hands into his front pockets.

It had been awhile since James had picked up a shift at the record store and frankly, he missed it. Holding down a job gave him a sense of normalcy and he found himself missing that quite a bit. So with things under control for the day, James had offered to come in, and pick a shift up. Even though it had been a very slow day, he was glad to be back in the familiar shop, surrounded by something he loved- music. With no costumers in the shop and since he had managed to put a box of new records away, James made his way towards the back where a drum kit was set up. The moment he sat behind it, James instantly came alive. His fingers reaching for the drum sticks, taking a mere seconds before he was tapping out a jazz beat. He had gotten so into it that he hadnât heard the bell above the door that announced that someone had entered. In fact, it wasnât until he heard them clearing their voice that James finally realized he wasnât alive anymore. His hands stopped and he looked up, flashing them a grin. âSorry- I didnât even hear you come in.â
@codstarters
River walked down the side walk, passing up different stores as he searched for the record shop where he would buy a new record for his mother. It was her birthday in a week and heâd be visiting his parents back in California for her birthday. Each store he passed by, heâd would take a glimpse inside as he walked, noticing the people that crowded some stores, and the lack of people in others. When he reached the shop he had been searching for, he noticed that it was rather empty. He gently opened the glass door, hearing a little bell above his head ding as he walked in. It was a wonder he heard the bell within the music from a drum kit that he heard on the other side of the store. The beat was good, and it had River tapping his toes and walking in rhythm as he searched for the record album he planned to buy for his mother. She was particularly fond of The Beatles, and he knew there was one album she didnât have on record yet. River walked down the aisles before finding himself in front of the source of the music - a man wailing away at the drum set in front of him. He shoved his hands in his front pockets, smiling as he watched the man get lost in the music he was playing. After a moment, River noticed a clock above the manâs head that read 3:48 pm, 12 minutes before he had to be home to meet up with his friend. âShit,â he whispered quietly under his breath before clearing his throat to get the manâs attention. âOh, donât worry about it. Youâre really good, you know! As much as I didnât want to stop you, Iâm actually about to be late meeting someone.â He smiled softly at the man, âmind checking me out? I mean, assuming you work here,â he waved the record album he held in his hand in the air, âconsidering youâre the only other person in this store,â he chuckled.

For whatever reason, it always took Owen by surprise when someone started to sign to him. Especially when it was a stranger out in public. Maybe part of it was because back in Florida, almost everyone he ran into didnât sign. But it seemed like where ever he turned in New York, there was someone that he could communicate with. Whether their signing was good or not never once mattered to Owen. What mattered was that at some point in their life, they had decided to learn a language that not everyone used, that he was able to communicate with people. âYes! Iâm deaf.â He signed, always making sure to sign a bit slower than he normally would, not for sure how much people would be able to understand. He paused for a moment, finger spelling his own name once more but this time leading into his sign name, A combination of the letter O and sign for nurse. âSo safe to assume you donât like cats?â He added a few seconds later, an amused expression resting on his features.
Seeing Owenâs face brighten up when he saw River signing made him happy. He loved to make people smile. Thankfully, Owen signed at a slow pace to make sure that River could understand him clearly. River knew sign language, but he didnât know much and was mediocre at best. âYes,â he signed before taking a moment to think about the signs for his next words, âcats are awful. Imagine picking cats over dogs. You have to be...â River trailed off, not knowing the sign for his next word so he finger spelled it instead. âE-v-i-l,â he finger spelled the word before proceeding to sign again, âto think cats are better than dogs.â He let out a small chuckle before shaking his head in disapproval. His words were purely light-hearted and he was only half joking about the evil thing. He doesnât hate cats that much, but he was frustrated about the cat trying to post up to his dog.

Owen was sat at a table in the middle of the coffee shop, his cup of coffee resting near his elbow and a book in his hand. It just so happened that the moment he looked up from his book, that the guy next to him turned around, his lips moving quite fast, and Owen instantly locked in on them. Trying his best to follow along with what was being said. Something about cats? Not liking them? With an amused expression on his face, he nodded along as the other seemed to go on a tangent about cats. He folded down the corner of his book to mark his page, his attention now fully on the other man. When it seemed like he was finally down, Owen gave a soft laugh, and reached to pull his phone out of his back pack. He held up a finger with a smile, hands quickly moving over the keyboard.
That cat was totally trying to fight your dog. He typed with a grin, shaking his head in amusement. I donât hate them per say but they can be such little shits. I thought about adopting one but ended up getting a dog instead. Probably a good idea, the cat might have tried to end me in my sleep. He held his phone out once more for the man, hoping that he had followed along decently with everything that was being said. When he stuck his hand out, Owen reached to shake it, giving another nod as he did so. You said, River, right? Wanting to make sure he had caught them before quickly adding, Iâm Owen, nice to meet you.
River noticed Owen typing out his responses on his phone, and it confused him. Why was he typing his responses? After a quick conversation between them using Owenâs phoneâs notes app, River finally caught on. âOh!â He exclaimed loudly, accidentally letting everybody around him know that he understood. His hands immediately began to move in rhythm as River spoke, signing every word. His signing was pretty rusty, and he didnât know much since it had been so long since he learned the language, but he did his best. His fingerspelling moved slowly as he signed his name, âNice to meet you, Owenâ he smiled at him, fingerspelling his name. âAre you deaf?â He signed and spoke, glad that he had learned sign language all those years back. Of course, it was a bit obvious that Owen was deaf, but River thought itâd be better to ask and know for sure than to assume.

Biography ~ Â Â Â Â Â
   River Callahan is a 25 year old cisgender male born on October 31st, 1995 in California. River grew up in a big ocean-side beach house in Santa Monica, California with his parents. He was always close with his mother, and definitely got his big personality from her. His father and him werenât as close due to his father not being around as much, but they still got along perfectly fine. Riverâs father is a famous author who also owns his own law firm, so he wasnât around as often, but because of his work, Riverâs family is pretty well off with money. River was always privileged and lowkey spoiled his entire life because of this. He grew up in a very big, fancy beach house, and now lives in New York in a big and fancy penthouse paid almost fully by his parents. He realizes his privilege and tries to keep an open mind and be the best person he can be despite that privilege, and sometimes even using that privilege, but sometimes he can be a bit materialistic.     Â
   River has always loved Pokemon ever since he was a child. Considering his mother was always a big Pokemon fanatic, his love of the Pokemon franchise makes a lot of sense. He moved to Manhattan when he was 21 years old to gain some independence and start studying as an English major in college. River has always wanted to be an author, and he can thank his father for introducing him to that world. Growing up on the ocean-side, River always had a passion for surfing as well, and always hops on his old surf-board when he visits home in California. Despite moving in an attempt to gain more independence, his mother still flies out to see him at least once a month, and River is sure itâs because she gets lonely when his father is working late hours at the law firm. He doesnât mind it, though⌠Usually.   Â
   River is carefree, funny, kind, social, exciting, and has a big personality. His friends usually describe him as the âsunshineâ of the group. River is confident, and always sticks to being himself, no matter what. Sometimes his mouth runs faster than his mind, and he can find himself talking and having fun even in inappropriate times. He is constantly distracted and has a lot of trouble focusing. He can also be a bit too frivolous at times, although he tries his best to focus and recognize the right and wrong times to be serious or frivolous. In terms of relationships, River can get a bit too attached sometimes, and is extremely passionate in his relationships, sometimes to a fault, but he is always trying his best to understand boundaries better. River is constantly working on himself to be a better person and to stay humble.

River sat in the coffee shop that located just down the street from his penthouse. His coffee cup was filled with, of course, only the best and fanciest cocktail of coffee and flavors mixed together to create his favorite frappuccino. He twirled the straw around in the cup that sat on the table in front of him, staring off into space. River always did get bored if he sat in the same place for too long. His thoughts ran to a million different places at once, he tapped his fingers of his free hand on the table, making mediocre music with the pads of his fingertips. Before he could think about it, he turned around to the stranger sitting at the table next to his and began to speak. âYou know, I hate cats. You wanna know why I hate cats?â His hands waved around in the air as he spoke, âI was walking Sage the other day, and this cat comes up and like, parkours over him like a maniac. Like, whereâd you come from, ya little shit? He starts circling around my dog like heâs posting up to âem or something. You tryna fight my dog? Cats are so weird. And mean. I hate âem,â he shrugged before resting his head on his hand that was propped up on the table in front of him, and he let out a sigh. Suddenly realizing that he just randomly began to annoy this stranger next to him, he shook his head lightly before facing the person. âSorry,â he chuckled awkwardly, âIâm River.â He stuck his hand out in front of him, gesturing for a hand shake and a small smile formed on his face.
