unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.

We can't own the things we buy.
Healthy food and housing is priced out of reach.
Enshittification has consumed public infrastructure, technology, entertainment and communication.
We're forced to choose between two racist, genocidal patriarchs for president.
Police and corporations have more rights than anyone or anything. They can harass, intimidate and murder with impunity.
Our "representatives" offer no leadership or a way out of the capitalist hellscape.
Chances are you or someone you know is in dire poverty. You or someone you know just spent an entire paycheck for a few days of groceries.
The escapism of social media and video platforms is wearing off and being replaced with censorship and ads.
There is no serious, concentrated global effort to tackle the climate crisis.
Fascism is here and pretending to play nice while all of its hydra-faces from transphobia to evangelical "Christianity" are playing dirty pool everywhere. A political coup is riding almost entirely on voter suppression, and a corrupt Supreme Court.
Good news: you have a superpower. It's called Collective Action.
The tough part: In order for it to work, you have to build solidarity and organize locally in communities via unions, student/citizen civil organizations, political and cultural committees, advocacy groups, even churches.
More good news: It's never too late to start.

If these stay-at-home things have taught us anything, it’s that the internet is vitally important to people’s education, employment, ability to communicate with others, and our overall well-being. If that doesn’t sound like something that should be considered a public utility, I don’t know what else to say.

Israeli forces have supposedly withdrawn from Khan Younis, but at what cost? All houses are destroyed, al-Amal Hospital is completely out of service, bodies strewn everywhere under rubble. People still have no electricity and no clean water and no food. It’s hard to dub this a victory when the suffering continues.

Just a head's up if you're using or considering using the Mojeek search engine: some of the art/photos that come up are provided by Pixabay and they are using ai-generated images.

Shoutout to all the artists on Tumblr who work on something for weeks and only get 4 notes
Shoutout to all the artists on Youtube who do amazing speedpaints and, if they’re lucky, will get 500 views
Shoutout to all underappreciated artists who do amazing work and receive no recognition

Pretty sure none of these actors consented to their images being used like this, Tumblr.

And there's no real reporting mechanism for it.

[Image above: screenshot of tweet by @rashaabdulhadi: All that "world war 3" talk is settler talk, by the way. Unlearn it, unlearn the fascination with it that you've been raised on.
Second tweet follows by @michkeenah: yeah, we only speak about a 'world war' when there is a possibility that the imperial core is in danger. which is funny bc when you look at who is funding these genocides + conflicts around the world, it's obvious that we are at war--the battlefield is just the global south /end description]

What happened yesterday was Bibi successfully redirecting the conversation away from the genocide of Palestinians and how that isn't going to stop anytime soon, toward Iran, whom they deliberately provoked into an attack.
Tumblr media
An attack, btw, that was announced beforehand, giving Israel, the US and Jordan, time to knock them all down.
This bullshit has been going on for decades.

Hot fandom discourse take but framing dark content as only being acceptable if its a vehicle for exploring personal trauma is just giving ground to the puritan segments of fandom.
Simply liking dark content for its own sake is perfectly fine.

When I say there are things that Israel will never ever take away from Palestinians I also mean the way the fight for Palestine is ingrained into every aspect of our lives, down to even the names we give our children who come decades and decades after our initial Nakba.
For example, Bisan is a very popular girls name in Palestine and it is the name of a Palestinian city that was depopulated by Israel in 1948. Girls with names like Bisan, Yafa and Jenin may not have seen these cities yet, but they carry them within them regardless.
Also, many Palestinians can identify with how our aunts and uncles have symbolic names such as A'ed or A'eda which mean returnee. These names were not chosen arbitrarily by our grandparents who were forced to raise their families in refugee camps. Similarly, there are names like Thaer (revolutionary), Bassel (courageous) and Nidhal (revolutionary struggle) that are very common to this day.
We are literally walking around carrying notions of Palestine and our struggle with us and planting the seeds of resistance within our children, we must be so frustrating!
