monkey d luffy is legitimately such a terrifying ass opponent bc if he has more than one fight with you…….you’re done. you’re over. all he needs is five minutes to figure out what makes you tick and use it against you. he’s learning new battle techniques (including your own) and literally leveling up within a day to spite you. if he’s not strong enough to protect his friends he WILL be. you underestimate bc he’s a little silly n u think he’s not paying attention but the whole time he’s been observing you like a bug. and now he knows how to squash you

#mini_throwback The idea that Ace resembles his father even more than if he had grown up with Roger and Rouge.

Like, Ace is really "the spitting image of Roger," especially in his youth, but only those who saw and remember Roger as that kid from Logtown know this. And Roger was also fatherless, with a mother who sacrificed her life for the future of her son.

I think about a scene where Canon Ace could meet AU Ace from a world where Roger and Rouge raised their son together and both are alive. So this AU Ace just looks at the canonical Ace and notices that Ace really looks a lot like Roger.

It's like when you have a role model, especially someone you love, it's surprising but difficult to actually end up being like them; but if you hate someone, it's very easy to become just like them.

AU Ace has a similar personality to Rouge (because he's a mummy's boy and, together with Rouge, watches the chaos that Roger causes with Luffy, which Garp throws at them time and time again) Meanwhile, Roger can't be happier because he's a pathetic man who melts into a puddle of emotion over his son, who is so similar to his wife. While for canonical Ace, his path was very similar to Roger's, except that Roger didn't have a death sentence hanging over him from the moment of his first breath. But both of them share a hatred for their father, who left and never returned, leaving debts behind that had to be paid by his mother and son.

It’s such a simple thing really, but “do you want me to be alive?” is one of, if not the saddest, things written in the entire world of one piece. Although, maybe thats just because of my soft spot for found family tropes (especially siblings lol)

Ace is just a small little boy here, a fragile thing compared to the character we all know. This is a harsh contrast compared to Ace in his adulthood, where he’s fueled by his ache to prove himself and prove that he’s more than his father. You never would have guessed the reality of his childhood, considering the cheery and almost comedic relief he can be at times.

I guess I kind of expected this, though. Aces hatred for himself and feeling that he doesn’t deserve to be alive was first hinted through his self deprecative jokes, before we ever knew about his past or who he was. I noticed this myself, that through the facade of sarcasm and cockiness there’s just a guy who feels like his life is a burden to all those around him. And what does it all come down to? His blood, the last name that he refuses to bear out of his hatred for the man who gave it its meaning.

Ace going by his mothers last name isn’t just a testimony for his respect and love for her, but also an act of defiance against his father. I don’t blame him lol, but it’s honestly heartbreaking that Ace has no idea that Roger did love him, and Ace died not knowing this.

The result of Rogers actions on the world though basically fucked Ace over for his entire life, and that was what made Roger selfish.. to go and cause a war and then have a son? It’s no surprise that Ace is seen as the child of the devil, because that’s exactly what Roger was seen as.. the devil.

So for all of Aces childhood he’s taught one thing: that his father was the devil, and that he is the child of that monster. That he doesn’t deserve to live, and what’s worse is he has to listen to strangers talk about murdering Rogers son, if he ever had one. He’s barely even lived to know anything, he’s just a baby, and he already believes what the ENTIRE world thinks of him, he’s hated and worthless and a burden. That’s so much for a 10 year old to have to carry alone, and it’s even sadder to see how this causes Ace to be shut off and cold to everyone he meets.

But of course he is.. hearing people talk about murdering him if he did exist (not directly him because no one knows Ace is Rogers son, except Garp and the mountain bandits. Besides, the world believed Roger having a son was a rumor anyway.) doesn’t make his hatred for anyone he meets that unsurprising. For all he knows, they want him dead too.

When Ace meets Luffy, he’s completely baffled that this boy he’s never met before wants to be his friend! How can someone WANT to be his friend? No ones ever been like that to Ace before, except for Sabo. Even after Ace pushes Luffy away, and makes it extremely obvious he hates him and doesn’t want Luffy near him, Luffy doesn’t give up. He’s urgently insistent on being Aces friend.

So…

“You feel better when you’re around me?”

“You need me?”

Ace is almost at a loss for words here. Luffy feels better around him, Luffy needs him. He’s wanted, he’s loved and he’s cared for, someone notices him for more than just a mistake, that is both beautiful and heartbreaking. And back to this panel:

The way ace nervously fidgets with his hands here (I believe he is, anyway) and his head is tilted downwards.. he’s clearly asking something that means everything to him.

“Do you want me to be alive?”

And little Luffy just instantly, without hesitation, says of course is soooo fucking cute and sweet and UGHHHH!!! Luffy is the first person to EVER say he WANTS (fr gotta emphasize on the want) Ace to be alive. This changed the trajectory of Aces life forever.

I guess I’ll stop here but there’s so much more I could talk about and say.. but Ace and Luffy are very special to me

I adores the fact and fundamental part…

Luffy’s legacy of Ace.

Not someone else. Not Roger, not Sun God, not his father or grandfather.

But Ace.

Ace was there in Luffy’s the most important and difficult lifetime, he raised him, feed him, constantly changing for Luffy’s sake and health.

Ace takes important constant core for Luffy’s life.

His big brother, his family, his all in most part of day at Dawn.

Ace’s the only one who take care of Luffy constantly when we can compare with others.

So I’ve never been fully satisfied by parts and chapters that show Ace’s significance for Luffy.

I wanna trophy-wife Ace; but not as common victim of this marriage, but that one, who puts his husband on knees, fiercely stares into his eyes and through closed mouths mutters “if you dare to do such thing again, I will end you, don’t forget for what we have our arrangement”

Maybe Ace as high rank marine’s wife.

He complete his duties, plays his role for society and headquarters, help his husband in his work and life. Even keep his mouth shut.

But he’s not quiet or completely obedient.

His eyes are very speakable. his sarcastic comments very accurate

Between marines he has reputation as that bitch, who responsible for the punishment and training in situations when his husband decided that his wife needs some place to cool off.

Also imagine if Garp is your father-in-law really really become overprotective of his oldest grandchild, and could visit them suddenly without warning.

And you as husband get the hard path “love training”

Also before 17th wife’s brother also love to attend his big brother, who apparently also considered as parental figure.

And that poor bastard of husband rll not ready for guy with wide smile and angry eyes with familiar straw hat, who also get every time to remind of his threats as if “whenever whoever ever dare to mistreated his brother, he will make your life /miserable/“

Once Ace’s so furious and fucking genius so whitebread recalled that that’s rookie pirate not just some random lucky guy.

But he IS men who speed up Paradise, east blue, south blue, part of grand line without protector but spades themselves without any long stops on they way.

He IS the youngest on the great sea captain of pirate crew, who’s not beat up in recording only shanks

Sabo was royal who wanted enslaved with Ace

They fell in love,grew up and again fell harder

Ace proposed to Sabo

Sabo went to RA, Ace was the second time enslaved and become wife

When they met the last time Ace’s dying, but he still kept in his arms babyboy. Sabo took them both, and raise Ace’s boy as his.

Sabo was frustrated and glad when for the first in long time he heard Ace’s voice.

“Im sick, so they have no use of me. And now I’m back at Dawn. So glad to reconnect with u guys”

Ace’s cough was… bad

“I’m sorry, guys.. but I’m going to die”

“Sabo, everyone, I love you”

Sabo smashed doors, he aimed to his beloved, he gentle with still trembles arms hold Ace.

Blood went through his lips, but smile…

Smile was still the same. Sabo cradles his Ace, his light, his own.

“… Sabo.. Sabo.. i… always love you..”

Ace stop breathing.

It’s can’t be true.

Sabo reject to believe in that reality.

But… small and weak sounds from someone under Ace’s body take his mind back in reality.

The boy… the boy with Ace’s blood.

Ace’s baby.

‘Luffy’, his own whisper broke silence. His hands wavered, eyes watering. ‘Luffy’, his voice cracking.

Luffy knows all universal facts that necessary for future.

And it’s not like he has spoiler for everything, it’s like..Day before they meet Vivi, he heard how someones said“meeting with princess with D”

The fact is..

When he arrived at Marineford he was told

“Last Gol D must die, bc of protecting successor of Nika”

And Luffy who just doesn’t care or take serious those words and warnings, become… furious, for the first time he knows that whole universe dictates him the future he possibly couldn’t change. However, he disagree with such sentence. This future can’t happen. Luffy will not allow it.

So it’s kind of affect his entrance. And moment of awaking his conqueror’s haki.

Out loud he only growled this “Ace will live”.

I want Luffy and Sabo old and grey when they appeared in afterlife world.

And there’s Ace who meet them.

Still Young, forever 20 Ace, who’s become the most little and small one for his little brothers.

Who had dark hair and full of young energy in his eyes, if we compare them with old and tired with wrinkles over their eyes.

Forever young.

Forever the oldest.

While Sabo and Luffy outgrew him in decades.

But…

When they eventually could see him together.

Pulls his tall, big and old younger brothers into tight long-waited hug.

Ace uses their names with love and adoration, that nobody but Ace himself could say it.

He says he was there for them the whole time, even though they couldn't see him. And he's so proud of them, glad for them and so happy to see them both only now, when they achieved all their dreams and goals.

Warm words, so dear to heart hug, their big brother smiles and look at them like nothing changed, like nothing happened, like they’re grew together as they planned to…

while being in the arms of their young older brother, the formidable pirate king, as well as the divine revolutionary fire emperor wait only a moment so in the next, they sob, weep and start crying load, clutching Ace in their arms in response.

All titles left behind. Sabo and Luffy are just little brothers who missed a large time for their onii…their older brother for far too long.

So they’re no longer old and in some parts cranky old men, they’re children now again.

Again as they were at Dawn together.

When Ace said “yes” to propose, the first person who was against whole situation (but not show it for Ace himself) was…

Not Sabo, overprotective and obsessive brother

Not Garp, who DOES play favorites with his grandchildren ( Ace’s on top)
