I accidentally ended up with a Bordoodle. I was young, and it was my first time getting my very own dog, combined with the breeder seeming really good but lying about things. I knew she was a mix, but she turned out to be a different mix than I had been told she was. Despite some initial struggles, she is the best dog I've ever had. She loooooves obedience and to work, as well as hiking and playing fetch. But also loves hanging out on the couch or bed for most of the day. There are plenty of stories on places like Reddit and Facebook, where owners struggle with their bordoodles and doodles in general. Will I ever own a doodle of any kind again? Absolutely not. I hate the coats, and I hate the way most doodles behave. Lack of training? Or poor genetics? Honestly, from the cases I have seen and dogs I have worked with, it seemed to be the lack of training more so than poor genetics. Personally I don't understand why people doodle everything. It really is not my cup of tea. They often times don't even inherit the low shedding from the poodle parent. Every doodle I have seen has been matted.
If mixing is done to better the breed (and/or prevent too much inbreeding, especially in the breeds that are less common), then sure. But personally, I do not see the gain from doodling dogs.
That being said, I have seen many purebred dogs who were just as- if not more neurotic than your average petsmart visiting doodle. It can happen to anyone. Also why I think it's more of a training issue than genetics in most cases.
You know why I'm not on team doodle? The three different people I know who HAD to get into sports to fulfill their herder doodle. Two aussie doodles and a bordoodle who were so neurotic and needed a job so bad it pulled their owners into dog sports. If it's pet bred, that's not what you want.
#just my hot take#starting a howl#also just rambling#i agree that dogs shouldnt need sports to function#but its not just doodles#psychiatric service dog#border collie mix#ruska

I'm honestly just curious, as at my work, we have police dogs that are boarded with us. These dogs seem to be on constantly. They are both "do not enter"s, which means that we have to shut them outside whenever we have to enter their kennel, no one except the owner can walk them in and out of their kennels and the building, and no one else except the owner can be present in the hallways when they leave or enter. The german we have especially seems a little, uh. High drive. He constantly barks and spins. The bloodhound is honestly pretty good. Until you get too close to his kennel.
These are in the US. Do these dogs not have an off switch? Are they only trained to just be on all the time? Do they have commands for biting and letting go like the bite sport/PP dogs do? (Genuinely curious).
I have walked past police dogs in the netherlands. When they were out in general public just walking by, they were muzzled. My own dog was within sniff distance of the dog (she ignored him because she was working), but he didn't even look at us. I wonder if they are trained differently per country.
My abnormal gait caused a police dog to lunge and chase at me while I was simply walking in my neighborhood. That’s a bit terrifying.
Thankfully it was off duty and leashed (I know it’s a police dog cause the owners are my neighbors, who are cops. Their cop cruiser is parked out front. The dog has training.)
But it scared the shot out of me and made my already difficult mobility worse and I had to limp even worse the rest of the way home, while the owner (a cop) just watched.
The implications that cops and their dogs are trained to view suspicious activity as anything abnormal, aka, many things people cannot control (disability for example, like Jesus Christ a trained dog tried to attack me for being disabled) are ferrying. I’m scared.
#its sad that we can tell which dogs are cop dogs#they seem so much more aggressive and non stop here#theyre beautiful but i would be scared for my life if theyd somehow get loose in the building#dogs#starting a howl

I gotta say, working line dogs can be an absolute handful (so far, I only currently have experience with my 5 month old pup). But they're such good dogs. I love their drive and ability to learn. Yes he is struggling with potty training as he still has to be introduced to the house properly (he currently lives "out" in the covered & fenced patio, and has a lot of freedom). But he will get there soon, and for now just loves to play and cuddle and learn other things, such as settling, basic obedience, and is actively getting better with walking on leash. He is such a little clown and I can't wait to see what he's gonna be able to achieve as an adult.

Almost 5 months old! Time goes so fast. Had a blast playing and practising recall. His main motivation for running over to me was to crash into me for cuddles and kisses every time.

Very early disclaimer, the name of this blog is a play on the dogs their names. Possum being, well, Possum (I actually considered naming him roadkill because I just like pet names like that, I have a dark sense of humor). Ruska is the finnish word for the transition from fall to winter.
#i know its gonna offend some folks#and im sorry#but its funny to me and i like it#i love my little roadkill
