Reflection

During this first quarter , I learned about Media Literacy and other stuff and honestly I felt a little bit sad that the what was taught there is something that I've experienced in the social media platforms I used and the fact I was so used to such things that I'm starting to think it was normal but this quarter I was taught the differences between the things I see and what it's supposed to be. (I was talking about Trolling,False Informations and even plagiarism ) I wish more people will be taught about the proper manners in the internet since being anonymous doesn't make one free from the consequences of their actions.

Information Sources and Languages.

Indigenous Media

- defined as forms of media expression conceptualized, produced, and circulated by indigenous peoples .

Primary Sources - original documents such as Diaries, Speeches, Manuscripts, interviews etc.

Empirical Works - such as research and studies.

Creative works - poems,music and video.

Languages

technical and symbolic means or codes to deliver among media and information professionals.

Technical includes sounds, camera angles,types of shots and lighting.

Types of media

Media refers to the means of delivering a message to a certain audience.

Print Media - normally printed in paper

Newspapers

Pros: Cheap media,Flexibility, widespread

Cons: Short life span,Poor Quality, Hard for Illiterate and poor people.

Magazines- specialized advertising media in educational,informational,entertainment and others.

Consumer & Business Magazines .

Pros: Long life, Better quality

Cons: High cost,low flexibility.

Broadcast Media.

TV or television- principal source of information.

Pros: Visual,Audio and wide coverage

Cons: High cost and limited attention to viewers.

Radio - Premier mass medium for users and advertisers.

Pros: Wide coverage and mental imagery

Cons: Lack of visuals and short lived message .

New Media - What we have right now.

Internet,social media and etc.

Pros: Quick and Wide coverage, Audio visual elements .

Cons: Lack of security and Reliability for some websites or information.

what is it?

》 It's the ability to find,evaluate, organize, use and communicate information in various ways in different situations or need.

》 equips us with the skills necessary to become independent learners in the realworld and in the internet.

The Evolution of Media

Let's talk about how our media started and to where it is now.

Pre-Industrial Age (Before 1700s)

♤First written in the old times where technology such as ours didn't even exist.

♤Traditional (Oral or Written)

Ex. Papyrus (2500BC),Cave Paintings (35000 BC ) Scriptures or Odex in Mayan Region.

Industrial Age (1700s- 1930s)

♤Also known as "Information Age"

♤characterized by the shift from traditional industry to Industrial Revolution.

Ex. Telegram (1700s-1930s) Telephone (1876) Typewriter (1800)

Electronic Age (1930s-1980s)

♤the start of electronic media (which are media that uses electronics or electromechanical audience to pass content)

♤First TV's appeared and Radio.

Ex. Apple Computers , Radio and Television (1941)

Digital Age (2000s)

♤The start of what we can see right now and what we are using. Digital Media on Digital electronic devices.

Web Browsers,Search Engines, Social Network and what we call Internet.

Cyberbullying, Defamation, Death Threats,False Translations,False News all of this happens in every social media application.

I can use this person as an example let's call her "Maria" this person has experienced all of the things I listed above.

Everyday she receives hate due to her past mistakes (in which she apologized) and the blatant hate by people who have nothing to do hiding behind anonymous accounts.

She trended in Twitter with a hate hashtag

There's fake news about her everywhere.

She receives death threats ,she gets bodyshamed and most people who sent it to her are people who joins the bandwagon hate.

People downplayed her talent and all her efforts and the fact that all she wanted is to share her love and passion to others she gets hate for being who she is.

and she isn't the only person experiencing this or who has experienced it. Some of them no longer exist in this world due to the pressure and the hate they received . I sometimes wonder how some people can live peacefully and happily knowing they contributed to a murder of a person willingly.

Yes they didn't hold the weapon but their words can pass as one. Those words telling them to just die,rot in hell and take their own lives.

How can you say it so easily?

the question I have is why some people claim they hate someone but talks about them 24/7 ?

if you hate someone can't you just ignore them and spare yourself the headache of thinking,talking about them?

People doesn't seem to realize the consequences of their actions and words. Words can hurt and certainly they can kill.

Being anonymous in the internet doesn't give you the right to hurt other people but it seems like it's being taken for granted by people who trolls and people who doesn't care.

So to the person reading this... I have a question

How many people do you think you have hurt due to your words and actions in the internet?

did you think properly before typing ?

did you think about how they would feel?

did you think about the consequences of the mere words you said can do to a human heart?

Words can hurt and they certainly can kill.

Media Information Literacy what is it? not everything you see and read in the internet or any media is the truth sometimes lies and false news can mixed into what you read. Learning Media Information Literacy enables one to be able to analyze,learn and understand what we read and make proper judgments as users of information.

By learning how to analyze and observe what we see and what we read we can make proper unbiased and proper judgments. Preventing ourselves from falling for the lies and false news,mistranslations,intentional sabotage,rumors etc.

Also we can learn how to create and produce proper media/information without making it too biased and help us prevent from sharing false information.

Based on my experiences in different social media platforms I have seen many false news and intentional lies being spread just to ruin a person/artists reputation and people who believes in those lies continues to spread it and thus can result in not only harming the person's reputation but also their mental health (some even harmed themselves and took their own lives as a result) as a reader and consumer of information we must be aware of what is the truth and what is not as our actions wont only hurt ourselves but the people around us.

By learning how to differentiate ,analyze and observe we can stop the intentional hate and lies that can tarnish and harm people/ yourself.

I can speak three languages English,Tagalog and Swedish (But if I try hard enough I can actually understand Visaya and Japanese)

I have 7 instruments (that I barely use nowadays) I have 2 acoustic guitars ,1 electric guitar,1 bass guitar ,2 ukulele and a keyboard.

and if i try enough I think I can sing.

I have a doll-faced persian cat named Loki

I love music and my favorite bands/groups are Queen,Abba and currently a kpop group called Mamamoo.

and if you know me enough I can draw for you, write some prompts (which will be angst for sure)

But overall you can just hmu and I'll be there since I barely sleep (insomnia is a bi-) .
