what if the dragon guard where the first town people to be fully aware of Caldarus. sure Balor is aware someone lives in the woods, and Juniper, Ryis, and Celine have had varied levels of interaction with him. but Dell says she goes to the deep woods, what if she saw decided to climb over the stump after seeing Balor leave a order and a note there and she finds the temple and Caldarus. who no doubt has been keeping an eye on her from a distance because i doubt he would allow a child to be that far from home unsupervised. initially she would probably try to attack him, with a wooden sword and a battle cry she learned from Eland's history books, the wanna be monster hunter she is. but it wouldn't be too hard for Caldarus to grab her by the ankles with his tail and explain he is a good dragon not a bad one and wants to help people it would probably take a bit of bribery with sweets and cool dragon items to get her to decide a truce.
she would run back to the town telling everyone how theres a nice dragon in the deep woods and if she was right about the dragon she
MUST be right about everything else. after getting in trouble for going in the woods on her own and being put under constant supervision for a few weeks. she is freed from her punishment and immediately tries to convince Maple and Luc to go with her to the deep woods, which is only successful after she goes and vists Cal on her own several more times and comes back in one piece.
i think he would like having visitors, and it would make him feel better that the children are not wandering the deep woods alone, he could trick them into learning about history because he’s reading the stories from his scrolls, and making them the “official dragon guard of Mistra” because hes a real dragon and can do that.
imagine the children telling everyone how theres a nice dragon in the woods that is their friends and everyone besides Balor thinking it was just the kids playing a game they don't realize is just pretend. when in reality they're the best secret keepers who don't know how to keep their mouths shut.
this is so canon it hurts. those kids would keep an open secret so well.
i seriously hope Caldarus gets to start interacting with the villagers in this next update. i am in love with the idea of people finding out about him <3

Detect evil but it becomes increasingly clear that whoever calibrated it had some really weird moral stances.

One big advantage of literary fantasy over more visual media is that you can hide completely batshit worldbuilding in plain sight. Like, yeah, what this setting calls "elves" are actually grey aliens, like from UFO folklore, but it takes thirty chapters for the reader to get enough information to piece that together because none of the viewpoint characters particularly remark upon it. Why would they? Elves looking like that is normal for them.
