hector and annie's second meeting.

annie's an ocean-dweller, and the first of her family to move upstairs, so she was really excited to start getting to know surface-dwellers. ronnie was her first friend, but she was fascinated by ronnie's boyfriend, hector, so she just had to interview him properly.

basically just doing OC development 😅 and a lil exploration of what it might mean to be a frankenmonster and how it could affect your own personhood. i've been a franken-fan ever since i read the novel in high school, and i've always been interested in characters that are based on the idea of being a frankenstein's monster (a pretty traumatising way to come into the world) that was shown love and care instead of rejection at every turn. (like frankie stein in monster high, or herman munster, y'know?) you have a weird origin, but you just do your best to make a good life. that's hector.

This is one of those true, declassified government things that always sounds made up but one of the things Henry Kissinger did with his career was use the CIA to help turn small, prosperous socialist nations into fascist dictatorships just to keep those nations powerless and possibly to keep socialist systems *looking* doomed and futile to the American public, like maybe just to scare Americans out of demanding better infrastructure or universal income. Once the friend of a friend of my mom's was visiting Rio and she saw Sugarloaf Mountain and she wanted to impress her taxi driver with her knowledge of Portuguese, so she said in Portuguese "Look, Sugarloaf [Mountain]! It's very big!".

Unfortunately, English native speakers have a hard time making the "ão" sound correctly since the sound doesn't exist in English, so instead of saying "pão de açúcar" (literally, bread of sugar), she said "pau de açúcar." Now, "pau" technically just means "wood," but it's also, unfortunately for her, slang for "penis."

So to the driver what he heard was "Look at the sugar dick! it's so big!" and he almost crashed the car from laughing so hard.
