Progress, 48”x48” oil. With a simple pallet of red, blue, and yellow most colors can be achieved right?!? . Well, Pyrole orange has such a high chroma that you can’t mix to it. I saw some of this and really wanted to use it. . Then I realized, it was perfect for the rich red silt on the elephant’s ears. Progress. I added more chroma, or saturation, and more value to this 40”x30” oil painting. . Slowly adding more detail. I intend to create depth in the painting through atmospheric effects. . No. I did not think I would end up finding joy in painting little frogs. I don’t even have color in any of my tattoos (except for one red dot on Helvetica). I suspect part of me might have quietly thought it to be a cheesy subject. . However, it has happened. I had an amazing massage and adjustment today and loosened up enough to come home and get started on this little guy. Is there anyone that doesn’t smile when they see this tiny dude? . A new layer of paint applied to this arctic scene. This one is strenuous, but really fun. I’ve transported myself here for a couple hours. . At this point, it’s just a balance for me of adding snow, then adding some rocks, then adding more snow... until the desired texture and balance appear. The right brush bristle, stiffness, shape... the right pigment consistency and medium. So many variable to get just right if the effect is going to read... it’s all so important to the final piece. . It’s important to remain interested when painting these in between layers, so I try to add something I really like. Another layer completed on this little guy. I really connect with what I’m painting. I feel like I’ve been hanging out with this cute little frog for hours. . I used raw umber and pure linseed oil to tone the canvas and get ready to finish the background. It smells awful! Some paints do not smell great when drying. . Follow me to see how it turns out.
