Subject: India vs NZ, World Cup 2021
Today's performance by India was absolutely mystifying and demoralizing to the Indian contingent of fans and the world. From the very first ball, first over, shifting of the openers, moving Rohit to Number 3; my list can go on and on. The lack of playing as a T20 team is clearly visible. A resounding lack of plans & strategy to weather the storm. Just a sorry sight to see, and painful to watch. Why would India not choose their in-form players from the recently concluded IPL is beyond me. Here's a few:
* Axar Patel - India dropped him at the last moment literally shattering his confidence; he was one of the best spinners of the IPL and good with the bat too!
* Harshal Patel - do I need to say more? He was stupendous in IPL 2021. Top wicket taker by a mile!
* Hruturaj Gaikwad - Top scorer of the season...oh my goodness. What a talent! A really terror for bowlers...
* And so many more...
I hate to say this but the current India WC squad has more players based off past reputation rather than current form. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Bhuvi Kumar, Hardik Pandya... Should I say more? Virat's 50s in the IPL were never the fluent kind; not the Virat of yore for sure. Rohit has looked skeptical since his hamstring injury in the 4th Test. Hardik has been out of form for months; nothing to show of not with either ball or bat...believe me, Jadeja is a better bet for a finisher rule for India. Bhuvi just doesn't have that sting in his bowling at all. A break could do all of them good.
All in all, just plain disappointed with both the games India have played at the World Cup so far. They looked absolutely clueless and listless against Pakistan and today as well versus New Zealand. Just feels like they are severely lacking confidence, and now need to shed all their fears and play like the Indian team they were once feared for. The call for change is NOW! Shake it up India. Come on!
Sincerely,
A super die-hard & HURT India fan
