NEW GAMEPLAY VIDEO: Pidge! Katie Holt. Space Wiz Pidge. @bex_tk Pidge is probably my favorite Paladin. She may not be the biggest or strongest, but she has brains and an unbreakable drive. Her Grapple Line was challenging to implement. NEW GAMEPLAY VIDEO: Shiro! Space Dad. Former Leader of Voltron. Captain of the IGF-Atlas. Shiro was a bit tricky because he never used the Black Bayard on the show (at least I don't remember him using it). I still wanted to give him a weapon, so I decided to go with the Energy Blade from Season 6, Episode 5: " The Black Paladins." BEHIND THE SCENES: The Screenplay. In addition to modeling, texturing, concept art, and coding, I've also been hammering out the story for the game in Final Draft. John Carmack once said, "Story in a game is like story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important." While I do agree that engaging gameplay has higher precedence than story, having a great narrative can make the game more memorable and meaningful. I know a lot of Voltron fans were disappointed with Season 8 and the finale, and I thought to myself, "If the story were to continue, how could each character develop further?" Anyways, I'm going to tease you with the first two pages of the script. NEW PALADIN GAMEPLAY VIDEO: Keith! The Hothead. The Lone Wolf. A Blade of Marmora. And the leader of Voltron. It turns out that creating a good combat system is a lot more challenging and complicated than Hunk's shooting mechanic. Keith still needs A LOT of work, but the basic combos are working. Eventually, I want to add air juggling, better FX, and better enemy hit reactions so that he feels powerful and impactful. SCREENSHOT OF THE DAY: Zipline Tunnel. Here's the tunnel that the Paladins travel through on their way to their Lions. To make the game more engaging, I thought about making the player lean left or lean right to collect power-ups or avoid obstacles. Yes, I know that wasn't on the show, but I didn't want the player to be passively gliding down the hall. SIDE NOTE: Unreal Engine now supports Realtime Ray Tracing, but I have an older video card.
