Hello! Not sure if you already talked about this but I'm really curious about the production of New Year's Day podcast regarding the writing and recording.

Have all the episodes been prewritten and prerecorded and just automatically comes out each new year or is it prewritten and each episode recorded a little before each new year (or perhaps some other combination)?

In terms of recording I was thinking on the one hand because they are immortal recording them all at once would make sense because they would physically sound the same (ie the voice actors voice wouldn't change overtime) but then again having the voice actors record over a long period of time can definitely add to the character development of the way the characters speak.

Anyway sorry for the rambling I've been musing on this wonderful podcast quite a lot <3

thank you so much for this question, it's a great one!! I actually have a pretty firm schedule in my asana (my task app) that breaks down as follows:

between the 11th and 13th of every month, I have "work on newsletter" - I always write the first draft long hand and usually type it up on the 14th to go out to everyone on the 15th

every june, I have a "work on script" task pop up. I really only have one year to go on here, so who knows what this will be in future, but this past june, I opened up a blank finaldraft and typed up a few lines - the setting, one of the topics they touch on, etc. but it wasn't a whole lot.

then, in october, another "work on script" task pops up. I chip away at it a little more, integrating some of the stuff that's happened in the newsletter.

then, november I finish up the script.

december, we record! in between christmas and new year's, I post-produce the whole thing.

so, in short, it is VERY contemporaneous with the release of the podcast. part of why we wanted to do this was to have a touchstone for our friendship every year and as a fun writing exercise for me, to see how my writing grows over the next ten years. and, to your point, it leaves a lot more room for character growth as the actors grow!

Thanks for remembering me! You can follow me here. So anyway, I'm writing my own What If...? fan fiction episode called "What If... Billy Maximoff Got Lost In Wakanda?" because children got lost somewhere which happens everyday. I would want my own episode to serve as a tribute to Toriyama-sensei who passed away last March. Julian Hilliard is the perfect Billy Maximoff for this one so I'll be having him as the main protagonist & Michael B Jordan's Killmonger as a main antagonist for this episode. Julian knows how much Toriyama meant to me & Michael B Jordan paid tribute to Toriyama. Some scenes for this episode would be a reference to Toriyama's work such as Dragon Ball. So 3 questions: 1. So do you role play like online role playing? For example: Billy Maximoff: Mom, He's in trouble! 2. What's your advice in making my own What If...? episode? 3. 1. I do like RPGs! But usually not with existing characters. I do like to write fanfiction lol, but when I do RPGs I like to invent new characters mostly, like with dungeons and dragons.

2. Your concept sounds really cool! I’m always jazzed to see magic mixed up with Wakanda, and Riri’s time with Kamala’s “Champions” team (that also has Viv & some magic users) is one of my favorite fixtures of recent comics. For a fanfic like this, you could write in prose for AO3, or try out Scrivner or FinalDraft (with a student discount license) to put it in TV script format!
