Bariatric surgery provides people with a new opportunity at life. People are regaining control of their health, and we are proud to be a part of that journey. Specifically formulated supplements
After bariatric surgery, we only recommend specifically formulated supplements. Why? These products are created and tested with bariatric nutritional needs in mind. Over the counter products are not created for bariatric needs, and rarely are they tested or regulated. We will not compromise on your health. So, we will always recommend the highest medical grade products including vitamins, minerals, and protein supplements. Roller Weight Loss deliberately seeks products that will be best absorbed and tolerated after bariatric procedures. Our program has been streamlined to provide patients with access to everything they will need to succeed. We conveniently carry these high-quality bariatric supplements at all of our office locations. We understand that not everyone can make it to our office as suitably, so we also provide an online store making all products available to ship directly to your front door without shipping fees.
We work with you
No two people are exactly the same. That is why we offer a variety of options in all of our products. We design each plan of care considering your preferences. The dietitians will ensure you are utilizing the supplements appropriately and for maximum benefit.
We care about your success

We have designed this process to help you maximize and maintain your success. We want to develop a lifelong relationship helping you every step of the way. So if you find yourself wondering about the products we recommend, please understand we have chosen them with extreme care. 3 Techniques For Stress Management
Stress! We all have it! Instead of trying to avoid stress completely (which is impossible), we can learn to manage it – properly! Notice, I said “properly”; this means, we often try to cope with stress improperly. Many people often try to cope with negative emotions by distracting themselves with other things – food included. For our journey to better overall health, we must include stress management.  So, let us review some basic methods to cope with stress properly. The American Psychological Association has a few suggestions.
Take A Break
Start by taking a break. Try to take about 20 minutes away from the situation of stress if possible. We are not trying to avoid it but to see it from a different perspective which time usually allows. Also, a break may allow you to employ some other techniques such as deep breathing. When meditating, you focus on something specific like breathing. During that time, you have to let go of the other overwhelming, chaotic thoughts to focus on your meditation. This may also allow some clarity in the situation. Exercise is also a great form of stress relief; it will allow you to expend energy but also increase endorphins which improve mood. Exercise usually improves sleep patterns as well. Getting proper rest and sleep is essential to stress management.
Laugh
Laugh out Loud – no really! Laughing has been shown to help reduce stress; even smiling is helpful! Our facial expressions can actually affect our brains response; so if we can positively affect our brain by smiling and laughing, it is worth a try. So consider watching a comedy or playing with your pet, etc. Do not forget your support group. You have a support group for exactly this reason. When seeking support, chose wisely. Pick people who you trust and can relate to your circumstance. Always remember professional counselors are available to help you navigate these emotions as needed.
Organization
The American Heart Association even recommends “giving back”. Consider volunteering to help others in an area that interests you. This may help you turn your focus onto something else temporarily and helping others feels good! Also they also recommend getting organized. This could apply to many parts of your life. For example, organizing your food for the week, can help you ensure you have the appropriate food when you need it. Organizing your budget may help alleviate over spending, etc. Organizing your time is also important. Allow for extra time when planning important events to avoid feeling rushed. Rushing can increase stress levels. The American Heart Association also encouraged taking time for hobbies like dancing, listening to music or podcasts, painting, etc.
Overall, managing stress can play an important role in your health. Proper coping mechanisms can allow you to navigate stress without turning to unhealthy habits. Remember, YOU are worth taking time and effort to improve your health.

How To Navigate The Grocery Store
In today’s modern world, we have the ability to drive to the nearest grocery store where we find tens of thousands of foods! This is an amazing accomplishment but can pose possible dilemmas when trying to eat healthy. So many options can be overwhelming, and temptations will arise. The best plan, be prepared!
Grocery List
Before setting foot inside the store, you want to be armed with a detailed grocery list. Without that list, the probability of forgetting things and picking up unplanned things just went up. To make a precise grocery list, you need to know what foods you will need and that starts with menu planning. Menu planning can be as elaborate or basic as you prefer. Once you start our program, we provide you with specific guidelines and food lists. This allows you to pick and choose the foods you enjoy.
Having a plan for your meals will help keep you on track when life gets busy. So, after you chose which foods you want to eat, the grocery list can be developed. Be sure to allow yourself time to do these steps. Depending on your preferences, you may even prefer to organize the list based on your route through the store. We all get discouraged when we forget something from the other side of the store – where we just were! Hopefully, you can avoid that scenario by organizing your list.
Marketing in the Store
As you make your way through the grocery store, you see many end caps and specially placed “splurge” items that grab your attention! Stay focused – if it is not on the list – better keep moving. Sometimes shopping with other people can make this situation more difficult. Know your limits, if grocery shopping alone is preferred, aim to make that happen. Remember, the grocery stores often move their products purposefully so you have to spend more time looking. Then you are seeing more “splurge” items!
Eat Before You Go
If you are wondering around the store and you are hungry, this is a recipe for disaster. So eat a small snack before shopping if necessary!
Other Options
Sometimes the whole shopping process just proves to be overwhelming. In this case, consider “pick-up” services. You have the option to choose all of your groceries online – without setting foot in the actual store-and then pick them up. Many grocery stores now offer this service and will even put the groceries into your vehicle. Some grocery stores even deliver and other delivery services are available!
So know your options and maximize your resources. After you planned what to eat and acquired the groceries, you have taken an important step to improve your health! And you are worth it!
Connect with our support groups for more ideas and tips to help you on your journey.

Now is The Time to Consider Vein Treatment
The primary goal of vein treatment is to improve one’s quality of life. Naturally then, when considering potential vein treatments, patients should take inventory of current signs and symptoms and correlate them to one’s quality of life. Significant venous disease could present in different ways. It could hide behind signs that look harmless as seen in spider veins. But it also could look devastating as seen in large venous stasis ulcers.
Signs
Then there’s a lot in between. Common signs of venous insufficiencies are varicose veins and spider veins. Common symptoms include leg pain, fatigue, swelling, discoloration, and heaviness. When these signs and symptoms start to hinder patients from carrying out their daily routine and start to negatively affect the things they enjoy, treatment should be considered.
Treatment Options
This is an exciting time in the world of vein treatments. New technologies and devices have been introduced which has revolutionized treatment options. Like everything else we do in our surgical group, we want to assure that the deliveries of our treatments are minimally invasive. The days of painful vein stripping are nearly extinct. Instead, you can have a diseased vein treated in about 30 minutes in our office through one or two tiny incisions. Due to such change in treatment, the patients are easily able to quickly resume daily activities.
One of the major advancements has been the development of radiofrequency ablation which is now delivered through a minuscule catheter. The catheter is inserted into the diseased vein through a tiny incision and most of the time, the patients do not even realize the treatment is taking place. In addition, there has been development of proprietary medical adhesives that can literally glue the diseased vein shut which redirect blood flow through healthier veins.
Need additional proof, check out the Before & After photos see the impact.
Roller Weight Loss
So, if you have been considering treatment for unsightly varicose veins which cause pain and swelling of your leg, this is the time to take advantage of one of our advanced treatment options.  Connect with us to have a consultation with Roller Weight Loss.

Loose Skin After Weight Loss Surgery
One of the most common questions we get from our weight loss surgery (WLS) patients prior to surgery is “What am I going to do with all my loose skin?” First, let me say that the 1st goal of WLS is to regain your life land your health. Second, not every patient gets loose skin after WLS. Third, not every patient is bothered by it if they do because they feel so much better after getting their lives back. Fourth, if you do get loose skin, pat yourself on the back because that means you have lost lots of weight. Last, if the loose skin is a problem, and it can be for some patients, there are options.
Loose skin never killed anybody philosophy
During the first 9 years of my career, I was of the philosophy that loose skin never killed anybody and losing weight to regain your health was (and still is) more important. However, that changed a couple of years ago when I did WLS on someone very close to our family that I see daily. She did great with her weight loss, but after the 1st 6 months, it was clear that the loose skin around her neck, arms and abdomen was really starting to bother her. It wasn’t until then that I realized the psychological impact loose skin can have on our bariatric surgery patients. It serves as a constant reminder as to where they have been, how far they have come, and where they NEVER want to return. It also is preventing our patients from completing their journey.
Reality sets in
I sent my patient to a plastic/cosmetic surgeon and she came back devastated from the visit after getting a quote for $29,000! It was at this point I fully grasped the importance of the question I had been getting my entire career as a Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgeon, “What am I going to do with my loose skin after surgery?” In this case, 29k was too much for my friend and patient to ever consider. Further, the type of surgery that was proposed was Maximally invasive surgery large scars, long downtimes, major pain, and extreme cost.
Time for a change
At this point, I decided there had to be a better way. I mean, I pride myself in delivering the most advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques for Weight Loss Surgery. Why couldn’t this be done for loose skin after WLS? Or even just from aging or having babies? I began doing extensive research and that was when I found “Bodytite” by Inmode. This is a machine/procedure that is able to cause skin tightening. What??? Yes, skin tightening! I was skeptical at first, but as I continued to meet with the company and have discussions with experts in the field, I became convinced that this could work for my patients. I began to realize that I could help my help patients complete their weight loss journey.
It seemed to offer everything I was looking and was definitely consistent with how we practice WLS – minimally invasive and the most advanced techniques available. Even better, it could be used for all parts of the body. Better than that, it could be used for all the places that WLS patients can get loose skin – face, neck, arms, breasts, abdomen, flanks, bra rolls, inner & outer thighs and knees. The Bodytite technology uses radiofrequency energy to cause skin contraction by producing more collagen – something we lose as we get older. It also melts stubborn fat, which is then removed by gentle liposuction. The result – stubborn areas of fat are removed and the skin tightens! This is all done with just a couple of tiny (2mm) incisions with little to no downtime!
Here are the advantages
• It’s done in the office • no general anesthesia required • minimally invasive with a few tiny incisions • no downtime • minimal discomfort
The best part – it doesn’t have the expensive price tag, scars, downtime, and pain associated with plastic surgery. I knew that this was an option that my patients needed.
I have now been doing the Bodytite & Facetite procedures for a year now and the results have been incredible. I have even become a National Instructor for In mode teaching these procedures to Surgeons from across the Country. Better yet, we now have options for our WLS patients who want to do something about their loose skin. I still firmly believe that loose skin should never deter anyone from weight loss surgery and regaining their health. Yet, I also know that loose skin can be a real obstacle for my patients and deserves some attention. Just know this, if loose skin is a concern for you after WLS, it doesn’t need to be! We now have minimally invasive options to take care of that loose skin. Now we know that this can be done by a Bariatric Surgeon for Bariatric patients and you no longer are at the mercy of Plastic/Cosmetic Surgeons.
Don’t let the worry of loose skin stop you from bariatric surgery that will change your life.  Connect with Roller Weight Loss to discuss your options.

Hypertension and Obesity
Obesity is a serious epidemic in the United States and continues to become a more significant health problem with each decade that passes. Obesity itself does not fly solo but is accompanied by its multiple comorbid disease companions. One disease most commonly associated with obesity, and most commonly disregarded due to its commonality, is hypertension. Hypertension itself is a precursor to significant health risks, including cardiovascular disease, heart failure, stroke, heart attacks, and kidney disease to name a few. In the United States, obesity constitutes 37.9% of men and 41.4% of women, and if we continue to follow past trends into the future, these numbers will continue to worsen.
As one continues to gain weight, the risk of hypertension escalates, which ultimately leads to an elevation in the comorbidities listed above. A weight gain of 55 pounds in a woman can increase her risk of developing hypertension three-fold. Obesity is most commonly evaluated by measuring one’s body mass index or BMI as well as occasionally measuring one’s waist circumference as well. These values allow clinicians to get an overall picture of one’s risk factors associated with a patient who is overweight or obese.
In many cases, weight loss has been shown to prevent the development of hypertension and its health risks in those with borderline disease, as well as cure hypertension in those who have been burdened by its effects. It was found that the greater an individuals weight loss, the greater the improvement of one’s blood pressure, which can ultimately lead to a decrease in arterial stiffness and other cardiovascular complications. In the Framingham Heart Study, it was found that patients who lost 6.8Kg and sustained this weight loss were associated with a 21-29% risk reduction in developing hypertension.
How Roller Weight Loss can help
At Roller Weight Loss and Advanced Surgery, we have developed a program that looks at each patient individually and includes personalized discussions with the patients and their families on how to approach the weight loss program strategically and safely. At Roller Weight Loss and Advanced Surgery, we use evidence-based medicine to direct our decision making and offer weight loss operations as well as medical weight loss options.
Weight loss surgery has been shown to decrease hypertension, as well as the risk factors associated with hypertension. At our clinic, weight loss surgery is paired with lifestyle changes for the best long term weight loss results. Lifestyle changes paired with weight loss surgery at our clinic include increased physical activity and exercise, and diet curtailing; both of which are emphasized and discussed in detail at each individual’s appointment. From the seminar at the beginning of the program to each subsequent appointment, patients will be educated on the importance of lifestyle modifications that are encouraged and evaluated.
Losing weight through weight loss surgery should be assessed by any individual who is looking to live a healthier lifestyle without the detrimental effects associated with obesity including hypertension and the difficulties that come with it. Weight loss surgery has been shown to increase the ease of developing an exercise regimen by making exercise easier on a patient’s joints and back. Increasing exercise ultimately increases weight loss, and in response, decreases the risk of hypertension and its associated comorbid effects.

Emotional Eating: How to Identify Triggers
Have you ever been stressed out and found yourself thinking food would make you feel better? Have you ever been really happy about something and decided you needed to eat to celebrate? Many people have considered “Emotional Eating” which usually occurs as a coping mechanism. We consider eating to either suppress or soothe emotions such as stress, anger, fear, depression, boredom, happiness, etc. Major life events or even “day to day” hassles can cause any of the above emotions.
Physical hunger usually sets in slowly. You eventually experience hunger pangs which are contractions of the stomach that gnaw or rumble. When you are physically hungry, usually any food sounds appetizing. After eating, physical hunger symptoms diminish.
“Emotional hunger” presents itself differently. It usually occurs very quickly and intensely. You may have very specific cravings. After “emotional eating” the feelings you were trying to suppress still seem to linger and you sometimes feel worse from overeating or remorse.
Identifying triggers can be the first steps to recognizing “emotional eating”
Let’s review a few possible triggers:
• Stress can actually release cortisol, a hormone which can cause specific cravings. • Boredom can sometimes trigger you to “fill the void” which may actually be feelings of dissatisfaction or “not having purpose”. • Childhood memories can even trigger food cravings. For example, as a child you may remember eating pie with you grandmother and feeling happy. So, you could be trying to replicate those feelings of happiness when eating pie.
These emotions are normal but how we cope with them is important. The goal is to cope with emotions with healthy, non-food related mechanisms.
Once you have recognized triggers to “emotional eating”, you can implement some tools to help control “emotional eating” or transition to non-food related coping mechanisms. Journaling can be a valuable tool to see a clearer picture. When you combine a food diary with a mood diary, you may see a direct link with eating patterns and emotions.
Then the task is to employ the non-food related coping mechanisms. Examples of non-food related coping mechanisms include yoga, meditation, kickboxing, etc. Also, consider taking a break of 5-10 minutes and then reassess your emotional status. Additional resources include support from family, friends and even support groups.
Consider new hobbies to keep you busy such as knitting, working a crossword puzzle, playing with a dog, volunteering, etc. If you feel additional resources are needed, contact a professional mental health counselor to continue working on proper coping mechanisms. Coping with stress properly can take practice, but very beneficial in the long run.
