Secretly Yours By Tessa Bailey
Tumblr media
Rating: 2.5/5 Spice: 3/5
Secretly Yours is the first book in the Vine Mess series. It is a classic opposites attract romance. Hallie Welch has harbored a crush on Julian Vos since she was a freshman in high school and he was a senior. He left for college and she took over her grandmothers gardening company. Fifteen years later, Julian is back in town and they navigate a relationship as two very different people.
The plot and idea behind this book is great. I think the characters are great and both Hallie and Julian are very loyal to the people they care about. However, it was hard for me to get into because I am not typically a fan of slow burns. They have several interactions with each other before anything significant happens between them. There are a lot of parts of the book that I would consider filler scenes and didn't really add anything to the plot. I wouldn't put it on my DNF list but I did skim a few pages and didn't feel like I was missing anything.
It didn't engulf me the way other books would, but I will eventually read the next book in the series called Unfortunately Yours which is about Julian's younger sister, Natalie. I am hoping I like that book a little better and it is more engaging to me. But I do believe that Tessa Bailey is a very creative author. My feelings about this book does not mean I don't like Tessa Bailey as an author. I don't care for slow burn, so this book just wasn't for me personally.
