An ethereal charm necklace made of broken jewelry, scrap ribbon and chains, and kept trinkets. The Celtic cross came from a necklace, and the silver spider was a navel ring. I wore both in my baby bat goth days. More little trinkets collected... And then it was time to make something new with them. The cord itself is braided with two ribbons and a silver chain, with a toggle clasp holding it together at the ends.
Lately I’ve been into crystals. I’ve always loved crystals and have been wearing them recently. There’s the dark iridescent one in the center of this necklace. I put a clear one in the glass vial with iridescent silver glitter. There’s another one hanging from the cord to the side. Apparently, they have healing powers and while I’m skeptical about that, it’s nice to hear anyway.
This necklace is special to me, and I like to think it has existential qualities to it (if that’s the correct way to put it). The wire-wrapped glass vial with glitter and a crystal inside is like a little vulnerability under my protection; and at the same time, it feels like my entire surreal existence is condensed into that single vial. (Heaven help me if it breaks from my clumsiness.) Then there’s the striking dark iridescent crystal that doesn’t look so vulnerable. The spider and Celtic cross are from a different life, one where I had to fight hard to secure my identity, dreams, and ambitions. There are two keys that go somewhere, and maybe one of them goes into the heart-shaped lock. We’ll find out where the other goes later. (I feel that it could unlock my subconscious.)

Attention artists! If you'd like to be a resident artist at a studio/gallery, look no further! Echo Echo Gallery is looking for one or two more to join our awesome and supportive team. We collaborate for art walks and two or three times a year we curate group exhibits. Every second Friday of the month, we are open to the public for the Greenwood art walk. This is a fun and professional group to be a part of, as we share ideas and make them into a reality--all with the mission to make art more accessible (and affordable) to more people. If interested, please reply to this event page and send us a PM with your portfolio link. We'll be happy to answer any questions.

"Making Peace with the Bullet of Suffering" Acrylic on canvas 6 x 8 inches
This painting was submitted to Eight and Sand Gallery's show, Window on a Dream. It's this Saturday, March 14, 6-9 PM for the Georgetown Art Attack.
This is from a dream I had a month ago, where I was shot in the head by a "Bullet of Suffering" and had three minutes left to live. The bullet made me think about my entire life and lament how I'm not living up to my fullest potential, which sounds like a cliche wake-up call that everyone talks about. The only difference was that I was so close to dying so that's why it was very intense. The truth is that I am very grateful for my life, especially after what I've been through for most of it. My dad showed up and told me that being dead is actually boring and that there is no afterlife like we were promised. This was strange since dead people usually don't talk in my dreams, and he doesn't really appear in them anymore.
Then I heard some bad singing with scratching noises and it was the cats meowing at my door. Feeding time is more important than sleep, they say.
