Note
if you’re taking requests, would you write a mainly angsty ominis x mc fic about him opening up to the mc about his family bc he’s now at that level of trust with them? not only is your writing amazing but i find your own headcanons about his family really interesting, and it would be really cool to hear about them in more detail if you’d be up for it :D
Thank you for the request!! I decided to do a bit of a headcanon at the beginning (i've never done that before hehe) and then a fic at the bottom! I hope you enjoy and it was what you were looking for! I enjoyed thinking about his family. Especially since you're not given much info about them - so I had fun envisioning what his family dynamic might have been like.
I wanna shoutout my wonderful ladies in the discord I'm in (Fanfic Friends made by @roohuh). @freesiriusblack came up with the banger idea about Ominis being wary of sleeping in his bed because his family would be able to find him there.
I love bouncing ideas with y'all and there was a lot of great ideas being throw around.

Ominis learned from an early age to control/suppress his emotions. Rather it be his siblings teasing him to get a reaction out of him - or his parents making remarks at his ‘emotional’ state.
So he found it best to keep his emotions in check as to not have another form of control over him. If they can control his emotions, then they can control him. Despite his aloofness, I think he does feel very deeply about things. He’s just learned to not show any interest in things, or to react in general.
There wasn’t a lot of laughter in the household unless it came at the expense of someone else. Laughter (and other loud obnoxious noises) was overall banned by their father as being ‘too disruptive’.
Ominis deals with pain terrifyingly well. Any discomfort or agony he’s in, he refuses to show it. He’ll grind his teeth and not make a single sound. He’s learned that the pain he’s in is another form of ridicule to be used against him.
Ominis does not cry. Crying is a form of weakness, and he cannot show that. If he does cry, it is silent and it’s when he’s sure he’s alone.
So when he does cry in front of someone, it’s an absolute sign he trusts them. He’s being vulnerable and he finds that extremely difficult to do. Always worried that his vulnerability will be used against him.
Ominis does not like sleeping in his bed when he’s at home. He’s in a state of vulnerability and anyone can approach/surprise him while he’s asleep. A big reason, he doesn’t want his wand stolen from him - his one piece of control and self-reliance. Once he was out of the Gaunt Estate, he had a hard time adjusting to not waking up every so often to check if he was safe or not - something he still struggles with.
On one occasion, Marvolo snuck into his room one night, and woke Ominis by pressing his wand under his chin. Marvolo liked the terror in Ominis’ eyes. After that, Ominis never wanted to be that scared again.
Growing up, Ominis learned to fight back in his own way - mainly snark. Using his wits and sharp words, he’s won many battles against his siblings this way. While he dislikes using magic against his family, he will if he has to. He’s not against defending himself, which is why he’s an excellent duelist.
Marvolo is the prized eldest son, which Ominis used to be jealous of - mainly the love and attention Marvolo received. Over time, Ominis has accepted he doesn’t have a true place within the Gaunt family, save with his Aunt Noctua. A fact which bothers him more than he’d like to admit. He doesn’t have a ‘true home’ nor a ‘true family’ like everyone else.
As for Ominis and Marvolo interacting, it’s a tense relationship. Ominis is never really sure what mood Marvolo may be in as Marvolo is quite temperamental and quick to anger - lashing out however he pleases. Rather it be cruel insults, dangerous spells, or using his fists - Marvolo is a wild card and Ominis tries to always be ready.
Marvolo is the reason Ominis is an excellent duelist. Ominis had to learn the hard way (through many burns, cuts, and straight humiliation) how to anticipate what the other duelist will do - and how to effectively counter. It soon got to the point that Marvolo lost interest in trying to fight Ominis once Ominis started putting up an actual fight.
Ominis has a rather distant relationship with his father. His father taught him (or had others teach him) the ways of properness and being a gentleman - out of necessity to hold up the Gaunt family name. His father doesn’t view Ominis as a ‘true’ son, but more as a strategic piece to use against the other families. AKA potential status upgrade if Ominis catches the eye of a potential Pure-blood wife.
His father is the ‘Stoic, Aggressive, Stubborn’ Father archetype. He wants Ominis to be able to uphold the Gaunt name - he desires Ominis to be a ‘true’ man. Since Ominis is perceived as ‘weak’ in his father’s eyes, his father viewed Ominis as a lost cause - something not worthy of any effort to try to mold. It wasn’t until Ominis became more independent with his wand did his father take more interest in him.
His father was unreasonably strict with Ominis - especially as a child. Any outbursts, whether it be crying, laughing, or any form of raised voice, would be met with a cruel punishment. Ominis was to be seen and not heard - a phrase Ominis heard many times from his father.
“You need to learn to stand up for yourself.” , “I’m not going to coddle you like your mother does.” , “Real men don’t cry.” , “I’m not here to be your friend, I’m here to make you into a man worthy of the Gaunt name.” , “I’m not interested in your excuses, I want results.” , I don’t care if you like it or not, you’re going to do it.”
His mother on the other hand, Ominis is far closer with. Not to say they’re extremely close. His mother is what you’d call a Devouring Mother archetype - she loves selfishly not selflessly. She’s a world-class manipulator. She wanted Ominis to rely solely on her, due to his aliment, but once Ominis started to become more independent - especially with his wand - she started to become more manipulative.
“Do you not love me?”, “You’re nothing without me.”, “I’m the only one who truly loves you.”, “I’m trying to protect you.”, “You’ll never find someone who actually cares about you as much as I do.”, “You’ll never make it on your own without me. You need me.” , “I only want what’s best for you.”
She has no shame in trying to guilt Ominis into doing what she wants. Ominis, having been removed from her influence for a long time now, realizes his mother manipulates him. It’s a hard truth for him to admit, and he doesn’t want to acknowledge it half the time. Ominis, deep down, clings to the notion that his mother does love him - in her own twisted way.

Warnings: mentions of child abuse??? i guess um nightmares, angst and comfort
Word Count: ~2,300 words
Sweat clings to his brow, a heavy breath escaping his lips. He listens intently, and he’s met with the soft snores of his dorm mates along with the humming boiler. His hands slowly release the tight grip on his sheets. He’s at Hogwarts, he thinks to himself as he sits up. Running his hands over his face and through his hair, he shifts to the side of his bed. He slips on his thicker winter robe and shoes, grabs his wand, and leaves.
He shoves the wooden door open and steps outside. The chilled air greets him and his hot, clammy skin. He stands there for a moment, breathing in the crisp night, before continuing his walk. He’s not sure where he’s going - he doesn’t rightly care. He just wants to stop thinking. He wants to silence Marvolo’s voice taunting him, and his own cries replying back. Hatred and frustration claws at the back of his throat at how pathetic and helpless he is to Marvolo’s torment. It’s been years, yet he’s still trapped in that wardrobe - being shaken and rattled.
The damp, mossy scent of the Black Lake catches his attention, and he waves his wand around to gather his bearings. He finds himself at the shore of the lake, his boots sinking into the rocky sand and water sprays onto his face from the breeze. With the gentle waves crashing to shore, he sits down on the beach. The sweat of his nightmare cools, leaving behind an unsettling chill. He drags his knees up to his chest with a heavy breath.
“Ominis?”
He jolts, whipping his head over to the sound of her voice. She’s walking towards him, her steps slow as if to not scare him away.
“What are you doing here?” he questions sharply. “It’s way past curfew, and you should be getting rest.”
Her laugh is gentle, warm, and it eases him for a moment. She takes a seat next to him, brushing her arm against his.
“And what about you? Do you not need rest?” she counters, her voice laced with a smirk.
His brows pull together, pulling his legs more into his chest.
“I’m fine. I… couldn’t sleep.”
He turns his face away from her, afraid she would see too much. She shifts towards him, sneaking her hand into his arm to wrap herself around him. His hand seeks hers without a second thought, their fingers intertwining. With her warm body against his, the chill of the night doesn’t feel so oppressive. The rolling waves alleviates the heavy silence between them.
“It’s a beautiful night,” she finally comments. “No clouds, just the moon and stars. The lake looks so peaceful.”
He closes his eyes, finding it hard to picture any sort of peace in his current state.
“How did you find me?”
His question hangs in the air while her thumb strokes over the top of his hand.
“You had another nightmare,” she states. “I… was worried.”
“It was just a silly dream,” he dismisses, shaking his head slightly. “Nothing to concern yourself with.”
“Ominis-,”
“I’m fine,” he snaps, directing a heated gaze towards her. “Go back to bed. I’ll be back to the castle soon.”
Despite his sharp words, he doesn’t loosen his hold on her hand. He expects her to pull away, leave him be, but instead she lays her head on his shoulder. A heavy exhale escapes his lips and he lays his head on hers.
“You can talk to me, sweetheart,” she whispers so quietly, her words nearly drift away with the receding tide.
“It’s nothing,” he murmurs, lifting his head off of hers.
He can feel her gaze upon him, looking up at him with concern.
“Do you not trust me?” she asks, her voice tinged with hurt.
He scowls at her. “What kind of question is that?” he hisses. “Of course I trust you.”
She strokes his cheek, softening his scowl, and he sighs into her touch.
“Then, why are you hiding this from me?”
Her tone is borderline pleading, and he can’t stand how hurt she sounds. His jaw clenches, grinding his teeth together, while he holds her hand tighter.
She continues in a gentle voice, “I didn’t want to tell you what happened at the Repository. It was a horrible, frightening experience, and I didn’t want to burden you with it. But, you were rather insistent on me telling you. And I’m glad I did. So, here I am, insisting you tell me what weighs your heart so.”
He doesn’t say anything. She squeezes his hand with a grimace.
“Please, Ominis,” she pleads, “tell me what’s going on. Don’t shut me out. Whatever it is, I want to help. I want to listen. Your nightmares have been getting worse.”
He frowns, “You’ve… known about the nightmares?”
She lays her head against his shoulder, nodding.
“Yes. For some time now. I was hoping you would talk to me about them, but you’re rather determined to pretend nothing is wrong,” she reaches her hand up to stroke his cheek, causing him to melt into her touch.
She turns her body towards his. “You won’t burden me, if that’s what you fear. You don’t have to face your demons alone, Ominis,” she says softly. “Let me be there for you, just as you have been there for me.”
He chews the inside of his mouth, flooding his tongue with a sharp copper taste. As much as he didn’t want to open up about this, hearing her upset is far worse. He sucks in a deep breath.
“They’re… about my family,” he admits in a quiet voice. He shakes his head with a grimace, “I don’t even know where to begin.”
“How about the nightmare tonight? What happened?”
He turns his face towards the cool mist of the lake, his breathing already starting to pick up.
“It was… about the time Marvolo tricked me and locked me in a wardrobe. He told me that we could play a game of hide and seek together - and he would help me find a spot to hide,” he lets out a bitter laugh which contorts his face into a cruel expression. “Once I was inside, he started to-, he-,” Ominis’ hold on her hand tightens as he struggles to compose himself. She waits for him, rubbing the top of his hand like a soothing balm.
He shudders, “He locked me inside, and he started to shake the wardrobe. Levitating it and making it spin and flip around. I had no idea where I was, what was going on. And I cried and begged to be let out, but he only laughed. He just kept laughing. Then once he grew bored, he left me in there. It wasn’t until a house elf found me hours later before I was set free.”
She’s not sure what to say. Squeezing his hand, she kisses his cheek then rests her forehead against his temple.
“Did that happen often? Marvolo tricking you?” she asks.
He nods, “In my younger years, yes. He was supposed to be my brother - someone I could trust. And he had no qualms in using that against me.”
She grimaces, “Did your parents ever intervene?”
He snorts with another bitter chuckle, “Intervene? No. Marvolo was teaching me a lesson - toughening me up. Making a man of me, as to not be some sobbing feeble weakling. No, Marvolo could treat me as he pleased. In fact, I think they actively encouraged it,” he shuts his eyes with a tense sigh.
“I remember the first time I fought back. Really fought back,” a proud smirk tugs on his lips. “He wanted to ‘duel’, and his spells would always come at me so fast. Then, I noticed something. There would be a pause when he went to cast certain spells - and he actually had a set pattern. During that pause, I managed to land a spell right into his chest. I could hear him stumble back from me in surprise. And for the first time in my life I felt… powerful. Best of all, Marvolo was weary of me after that.”
“If he could see you now, I doubt he’d be able to muster the courage to fight you at all,” she smiles, making him grin for a moment. His grimace returns and he turns his face towards his lap. She remains silent, quietly caressing his hand while he gathers his thoughts.
“My parents are… not kind people,” he begins in a quiet voice. “I told you of their ‘pastime’ with muggles. I still can’t comprehend being so cruel to someone - a complete stranger. But my mother, she wasn’t always unkind to me.”
A soft smile plays on his lips as he says, “She used to let me sit on her lap as she read to me - mainly over our ‘great’ family history. She’d hold my hand and take me through the corridors, telling me all about the portraits of our ancestors. One time, she gave me a chocolate pastry before bed - which Marvolo found out about the next day and punished me for it.”
“She sounds like she cares about you,” she says.
Ominis’ features fall into a more neutral expression, “Perhaps. In her own way. Once I got my wand, and I didn’t need her to help guide me, she changed. She’d cry anytime I didn’t want to hold her hand, or I wanted to read on my own. She nearly broke my wand in half one time, if Father hadn’t walked in.”
“She nearly broke your wand? Why-,” she stops herself with a shake of her head. “Your father actually stopped her?”
He nods, “Only because I had more worth in his eyes once I had my wand. I wasn’t some burden to him - not completely anyways. He wouldn’t talk to me often, unless necessary. For someone I lived with for nearly all my life, I barely know the man.”
“And he’ll never see how great of a man you are.”
Ominis turns towards her with a soft gaze, “Do you mean that?”
She kisses his cheek with a nod, “I do. You’re amazing, Ominis. Despite them trying to break you, you remained strong. You’re a kind, loving man. It’s something they’ll never be able to take away from you.”
He closes his eyes with a heavy breath - pressing his forehead to hers.
“I owe that to my Aunt Noctua. She was my light in those dark times,” he admits. “She showed me the world wasn’t always so cruel, nor unkind. She gave me hope that once I left that place, I could be whoever I wanted to be. That… people would… love me for me.”
His voice cracks and he squeezes his eyes harder together. He feels a tear trickle down his cheek, and she gently wipes it away with her thumb.
“My sweet, Ominis,” she whispers. “You’ve been through so much. But, you don’t have to face it alone anymore. I love you. I love you so much.”
Her tender touch and lips on his cheek - break him. Tears fall, despite him trying to keep them at bay. She doesn’t realize he’s crying until she feels a damp saltiness on her lips. Guiding him, he nuzzles into her neck as she holds him in a tight, loving embrace.
“It’s okay. I’m right here,” she strokes the back of his head.
He crumbles in her arms, letting himself cry silent tears for all the pain he’s kept in his heart. He weeps for the child he once was, who yearned to be loved and held like this. Her presence, her embrace, is warm and comforting - combating the darkness which weighs him.
She holds him, feeling her neck dampen while his fingers clutch onto her robes. There’s a rage in the back of her mind. She would like nothing more than to storm right up to that Estate and rip it apart - piece by piece. The more barbarous side of her would do the same to his family. Make them cry in agony, beg for mercy - a grace which she would never grant.
How could they ever be so cruel to her sweet, kind, loving Ominis? She hates they made him so aloof, and closed off from the world. Shattering his trust, again and again and again. Twisting the heart of someone who loves so deeply.
Instead of focusing on the injustice done unto him, she tries to think of only him. He survived. He made it out of their clutches with his heart. He could’ve been just like them. She buries her nose into his messy hair, inhaling his woodsy scent.
His hold on her loosens as his tears begin to calm. He feels lighter, while his eyes are heavy - begging for sleep. But, the idea of having to leave her warm embrace frightens him.
“Can we… stay here?” he asks, his voice small and vulnerable.
She smiles, lowering them onto the sandy beach, then pressing herself into his chest. He wraps her in his arms, letting her warmth wash over him. In the embrace of night, with her by his side, nestled in his arms and tucked under his chin, he feels safe, protected.
“Thank you,” he whispers. “For being with me. For finding me. For listening to me. You… I love you.”
She kisses his neck with a soft hum, “And thank you, for letting me in. For loving me. I never want to let you go, Ominis. I love you.”
He holds her tighter against him, determined to make them one. Resting his head on top of hers, he listens to the gentle waves rolling to shore and to the soft breaths against his neck. The stars twinkle above them, casting a gentle glow upon their entwined bodies.
In that moment, surrounded by the soothing sounds of the lake and the warmth of her love, Ominis finally feels a sense of belonging, a sense of home.

AN: Sorry my Marvolo simps, but I don't think he's that nice of a guy especially to his brother Ominis. I think Marvolo, growing up, was doing all these things as 'brotherly love'.
Anyways, I hope y'all enjoyed <3 Feedback always welcomed :)

------------------------------------
Time moves at an unreasonably fast pace as spring shifts into summer. Everyone is eager for the arrival of summer break, while she clings desperately to the remaining moments of the school year. It’s not because she wants to keep attending class, doing homework, or studying endlessly. No, it’s because she’s not ready to part from her friends and her beloved Ominis.
Her connection with Ominis is unlike anything she’s ever experienced before. Since their vows on the beach, it’s as if her walls have all crumbled, and having him in her heart brings her comfort. In his presence, she feels warm and at ease - even when they sit in silence together, engrossed in their reading or studying.
She’ll miss his smiles, which light up the room, and the way he’ll grab her hand in class to hold under the desk, caressing the top with a dreamy smile. While their more passionate moments are reserved for private settings, he will place a tender kiss on her cheek, or hand, before they part ways for their respective classes. His displays of affection are that of a true gentleman - shy, tentative, but brimmed with love - for her alone. The touch of his lips sends butterflies fluttering through her, and his gentle caresses ignite sparks across her skin.
While he tends to be reserved in public, she’s more than happy to make him blush with her bold actions. She’ll kiss his cheek at the dinner table, earning herself a scowl he can’t quite hide as a smile tugs on his lips. Or she’ll embrace him from behind while he’s searching for a book at the library - causing his whole body to momentarily stiffen, chuckling as he gently disentangles himself before anyone sees them. It all makes her heart ache at the thought of having them having to be apart soon. He’s her shelter in the storm, and she wishes she could offer him the same amount of solace.
Ominis interrupts her thoughts with his sweet voice, asking, “What’s on your mind, love?”
The gentle wind tousles her hair as she looks down at him, a smile spreads across her face, catching hints of his arboreous cologne mingling with the fresh earth. He rests his head upon her lap while her fingers comb through his dark blonde hair. His eyes are closed with a tranquil smile playing on his lips. Under the shade of a lone tree, they’ve found a perfect spot to enjoy the afternoon. Blades of grass dance and sway in the breeze, tickling her outstretched legs. Through the bright green leaves, the sun pokes through to lovingly kiss his cheeks and neck. Her other hand moves to follow these traces of light upon his face. She could stay right here, in this moment, for the rest of her days.
“There you go again,” he teases, peeking an eye open for a moment. “Where are your thoughts wandering to?”
She laughs, “You demand quite a lot of attention for someone who’s been napping this whole time.”
His smile shifts into a smirk as he retorts, “It’s not my fault. Your touch has the power to tame Hippogriffs. How am I to resist succumbing to it?”
“Oh, I didn’t realize you were a beast, dearest,” she taps his nose, earning herself a wide smile from him. His hand comes up to cup her own on his cheek, nuzzling himself into her touch then kissing her palm.
“Tell me. What weighs you?”
She laughs to herself at how easily he can read her. Amidst the birdsong and rustling whispers of grass, she gathers her thoughts to respond while gently stroking his cheek with her thumb and twirling his soft hair with her other hand.
“I was just wishing time wasn’t moving so fast,” she confesses.
He nods, a melancholy smile on his face, “I’ve had similar feelings as of late. It’s been wonderful being with you, and I will miss it dearly over the summer. I can’t imagine not being with you everyday.”
His voice fades away into a hushed murmur.
“Me too,” she whispers with a frown. “I know Anne needs you, and Sebastian needs me. I just wish it weren’t so.”
“I know. If only things had been different,” he sighs with a slight pinch of his brows. He strokes up and down her arm, squeezing gently on her forearm. “I’ll miss you. The mere thought already twists my heart in anguish.”
Her frown eases into a warm smile, “And I’ll miss you.”
Leaning down, she places a sweet kiss on his forehead. Before she can pull away, his hand rests on the nape of her neck, guiding her down to his lips. He hums softly from their warm, tender kiss, and when she rests back against the tree, their smiles are brighter. His hand runs down her arm to caress the top of her hand.
“Speaking of, have you spoken to Sebastian yet?”
She sucks in a sharp breath, “Not yet. I plan to after supper today.”
“Good,” he says, kissing her palm again with a soft smile. “I’m glad you’ve been opening up about Ranrok, and not just to me. It’s a relief really, and I can sense the difference within you. You’re lighter, happier.”
“Thanks to you,” she says with a grin. “I don’t know what I’d do without you, Ominis.”
“Nor do I, if I didn’t have you,” he whispers with a somber expression. His blueish-gray eyes glaze over, his lips pursed together.
“Now who’s lost in thought,” she giggles.
He chuckles, shaking his head, then saying, “I’ve been thinking about the Undercroft.”
“Oh? What about it?”
He falls silent, his brows pinching together as he traces over her arm and hand with his nimble fingers.
“My family has known of the Undercroft for several generations,” he finally states. “For Isidora to also use it, surely that can’t be a coincidence.”
“What’re you saying? The Gaunts and Isidora may have history? Perhaps relations of some kind?”
Ominis grimaces, “I’m not sure. But, the only way for us to find out would be if I went back home. Back to the Gaunt Estate.”
“No,” she says sternly.
His worried gaze searches for hers, “This is a lead we should pursue. If there’s more information-,”
“I’m not asking you to return back to those vile people for me,” she hisses.
He squeezes her hand, soothing her into an uneasy silence.
“I can handle myself,” he says, his voice filled with assurance.
“I don’t-,” she lets out a heavy breath. “I know you can handle yourself. That’s not-,”
“I wouldn’t have to stay long,” he interjects. “Only long enough to find any records involving Isidora. My mother prides herself on maintaining the family archives. If there’s any information on Isidora, or Ancient Magic, it would be there.”
She turns away from him, her scowl deepening. Staring at the sun reflecting on the Black Lake, his reasoning starts to sink in, and she reluctantly agrees with him.
“I don’t want you to have to return there. Not for me,” she whispers.
His hand cups her cheek, turning her to look back down at him with his gentle gaze.
“I would do anything for you, my love,” he says. “Besides, returning home has long been overdue, and dealing with my family is nowhere near as dangerous as what you’ve faced. I promise, I won’t be in any true peril.”
A heavy sigh escapes her lips. “Promise me, Ominis. Promise me you’ll be careful.”
“I promise,” he replies, his voice steady and unwavering.
She closes her eyes, allowing herself to lean into his touch. The warmth of his hand on her face is both comforting and reassuring.
“When would you go?” she asks, her voice laced with resignation.
“Sometime during the summer. If Anne is well enough, I’ll spend a week or two searching the library. I’ll let you know before I go,” he smiles, reassuring her despite her worries still clawing at her throat.
The flame of determination in his eyes is unwavering. He wouldn’t want to do this unless he thought it necessary, she realizes. She nods, with a heavy heart.
“Very well,” she sighs. “I don’t fancy the idea, but I… can’t deny the importance of finding more knowledge about Ancient Magic. Perhaps one of your ancestors wrote about her, or her magic.”
“I have a strong notion they may have. Any sort of insight would be helpful, if only to help quell your worries, darling. I don’t want you living in fear of the gifts you possess,” he says.
Her eyes widen then she kisses his palm, “Thank you. I… appreciate you, and everything you do for me.”
“We’ll get through this,” he says, filled with determination. “And once I return from the estate, we’ll be one step closer to understanding the truth.”
Gazing into his deep storm-cloud orbs, a spark of hope ignites within her.
“I love you, Ominis,” she whispers, unable to hide her emotions.
“And I love you, my dearest,” he says, his voice soft and sincere. “Always and forever.”
He has a sweet smile as he strokes her cheek. The bond between them brightens and a shimmering aura encapsulates Ominis. If he looked captivating before, he is ethereal now. Magic ripples across his skin and illuminates him as if he were a divine being, a God nestled on her lap. The humming of his presence soothes her soul like the cool wind before a summer rain. His eyes close as he lets out a soft sigh - her magic warming him to the very depths of his being.
“I… I’ve noticed that I can sense you more,” he admits in a quiet voice. “Like a deep part of me feels you, even now. Is that… your magic?”
“I’m sorry, it is. I can stop-,”
“No,” he shakes his head. “I like it. Feeling like this is… magical. Something I’ve never felt before. It’s nice.”
“I like it too,” she whispers. “It’s like you’re always with me.”
He smiles, guiding her down for another passionate kiss. The bond ignites into a smoldering blaze - making them both gasp. He tastes of the sweet orange they had earlier, and his lips are impossibly soft against her own. How is she ever supposed to part from him?
“My sweet,” he smiles against her lips. “You make it impossible for me to leave you.”
“I was just thinking the very same,” she giggles. “You’re an absolute seducer, and I’ve fallen helplessly prey to your charms.”
“Then come here. Let me seduce you further,” he whispers with a smirk.
They share another few kisses, before finally heading back to the castle for supper - their steps light.
The Great Hall is alive with chattering classmates - punctuated by occasional bursts of laughter - and clinking silverware. Smells of savory beef, roasted herb chicken, and fresh buttery rolls send her into a state of bliss, and bitter-sweetness. Another thing she’ll miss once the summer begins - the lively dinners and delicious food.
As they sit next to each other - conversing with Sebastian about their day - she can see the sparks of magic on Ominis. She smiles at the beautiful reminder of the love they share, stealing glances at him whenever she can. Sebastian and Ominis dive into a heated debate if Emancipare would work against an Anti-Unlocking Charm. Tuning out long ago, she watches Ominis grow more passionate and animated in their discussion. He only gets this heated when Sebastian riles him up - much to the latter’s amusement. She didn’t think it possible to swoon harder for the boy, but she does.
Her fingers trail across the wooden bench over to him - the polished grain cool against her warm skin. Under the table, she wraps her hand around his with a grounding squeeze, making him blush and stutter mid sentence. When his fingers tangle with hers, paying attention to the conversation is entirely impossible.
Once supper ends, Ominis bids her and Sebastian farewell as they head to the Undercroft, kissing her cheek before he parts. It’s a silent trek through the castle, causing her hands to wring together at the heaviness. Her lips part and close several times at the unspoken words stuck in the back of her throat. Sebastian’s back is stiff and his eyes remain forward, heightening her nerves.
As they enter into the secret hideout, the sounds of their footsteps echo off the stone walls. The air is cool and damp - wetting her cheeks. The hanging braziers’ lights cast flickering shadows on the ground.
They’re alone.
It suddenly dawns on her that they haven’t been in the same room without Ominis for some time. Not since she told Sebastian of Rookwood weeks ago.
“Well,” Sebastian breaks the silence with a gentle voice, “what did you wish to speak to me about?”
“It’s about Ranrok,” she blurts out.
His eyes widen, “Oh. Alright. I… What about Ranrok?”
She stares at him and the boiling anxiety of confiding in him starts to simmer. This is Sebastian, her best friend. Someone she’s fought goblins and Ashwinders alike with. He knows her, better than most, and, more importantly, he would understand the choices she made. Before she realizes it, the tale of her battle with Ranrok flows from her easily, and he listens attentively - nodding or frowning when appropriate. When she finishes, she finally meets his eyes.
“And that’s what happened. I absorbed the power of the Repository to unleash it. So, it may help those in need, instead of it being hidden away for all of time.”
He steps towards her, his voice filled with awe, “You did all of that? By yourself?”
She nods and he chuckles with a beaming grin, bringing her into a warm hug.
“You’re absolutely mad! If it were anyone else, I wouldn’t believe them for a second,” he chuckles. “Thank you. For telling me. I wish I could’ve been there by your side - fighting goblins and witnessing your Ancient Magic at work.”
She lets out a breath, a mixture of gratitude and relief washing over her. “Perhaps next time. Although, I would be more than happy to not have to fight for my life again.”
“I suppose we’ve both had enough ‘adventure’ for a lifetime. Or at least for a few months,” he says with a smirk.
As he releases her, he looks down at her with concern.
“So, what does it mean? Absorbing that power,” he wonders with a slight frown.
Her eyes fall from his warm brown ones, “I’m not sure. Absorbing such power is exactly what ruined and corrupted Isidora. I… I fear I may have opened a door to something. But as to what, I haven’t figured that out yet. I only hope it will bring forth good things, and I haven’t made a horrible mistake.”
“Knowing you, I’m sure it will be for the better,” he grins. “Besides, you have me and Ominis to fall back on. And if anyone can keep you in check, it’s definitely Ominis.”
She giggles, a sound filled with warmth. “He certainly has been my savior in all of this. I… don’t know what I would do without him.”
A somber expression crosses her face, and Sebastian’s gaze lowers with a grimace.
“Are you certain you want to spend the summer with me?” he questions in a quiet voice. “You don’t owe me anything, you know. Really it’s me who owes you after what I’ve done. I’m sure you’d rather spend the summer with him anyways.”
She nods with a determined glint in her eyes, “As much as I’d like to be with Ominis, I want to stay with you.”
His brows furrow, “But-,”
“I said I would stand by you, Sebastian,” she interrupts, “and I meant it. You’re my friend. Well, more than my friend really. You and I are bound by blood. You’re my brother - in every sense of the word. And besides,” she nudges his arm with a playful smirk, “I can’t have you wallowing in self-pity all summer.”.
He scoffs with a slight grin. “And I won’t let you do the same.”
His eyes lower with a soft smile. “I’m glad you still consider me your friend. Even after everything. You’re my family now too, you know, and I’ll stand by your side as well - no matter what. Whatever you need of me, don’t hesitate to ask.”
She beams, hugging him again, “We’ll get through this. Together. And we’ll come out better for it.”
“With you and Ominis by my side, I can’t imagine it otherwise,” he pauses with a wistful smile. “Thank you. To the both of you. For standing by me. I… I need you both. Now, more than ever.”
“And we need you Sebastian,” she squeezes his upper arms.
He wears a wry smile as he sniffs, “Well, now that we got that all out of the way, let’s go pester Ominis. I’m sure he’s missing you already.”
She snorts, “He’s more than likely enjoying his respite from me.”
They start to leave the Undercroft and Sebastian shakes his head.
“Not a chance. He can’t get enough of you,” Sebastian has a grin tugging on his lips. “You make him happy. I mean really, really happy. I hope you know that, and how much you mean to him. It makes me happy to see him open up to someone - help break him out of that stiff shell of his. And I’m glad it’s with you. You’re good for him, and I know you’ll protect him.”
His words warm her heart, and as Sebastian holds the gate open for her, she spares him a soft smile.
“I appreciate you telling me that,” she looks up to him with a fondness in her eyes. “He means everything to me, Sebastian. He’s… honestly too good for me.”
“You’re good for each other. I mean, I see how you two look at one another. It’s honestly disgusting how sweet it is,” he teases.
As they emerge from the Undercroft, the warm glow of the fire’s light greets them. The quiet corridors don’t feel so lonely with Sebastian at her side as they head towards the common room.
He lets out a sigh, “I’m glad you’re feeling better. It was hard to see you so down. It’s good to have you back,” he nudges her shoulder with a wide grin.
She nods with a matching grin, “It’s good to be back.”
Indeed, it’s like a great burden has been taken from her as she shares her troubles. Knowing she has the support of Sebastian, Ominis, and so many of her friends makes her feel like she can tackle anything that stands in her way.
Then, it finally arrives.
As she waves off her friends boarding the Hogwarts Express, a sense of bitter-sweetness washes over her. They all made a promise to stay in touch over the summer, and she looks forward to hearing what mischief they’ll get up to. Especially Natty, as she heads back to Uganda for the summer break. But alas, the absence of their lively meals, gossip between classes, and wild adventures are already missed. Thankfully, Ominis’ hand in hers prevents her from succumbing entirely to melancholy. Sebastian joins them with a wide grin - completing their trio.
The train shudders and roars to life, slowly moving forward with a deafening whistle. The ground rumbles under their feet as the train departs from the station. A distinct aroma permeates the air, enveloping the senses. The billowing steam carries the scent of coal mingled within - a fragrant blend of earthiness and warmth, reminiscent of burnt embers. There’s a tinge of metallic tang in the air, hinting at the iron and steel components working in unison. Once the Hogwarts Express is out of sight, they walk to Hogsmeade together to her little shop.
Stepping inside, the jingling bell alerts their entrance. The afternoon sun filters into the quaint space and the store has a cozy air from the numerous boxes neatly stacked on the far side wall. Smells of old, tattered books and dried herbs overwhelms the senses - a pleasing scent which soothes her. Penny’s eyes rise up from her record’s book with a warm smile already on her face.
“Hello!” Penny greets them, hopping off her stool and coming around from behind the counter. “Penny prepared the spare bed downstairs for Mister Sebastian. Penny hopes it’s to your liking.”
“Thank you, Penny. Your hospitality is greatly appreciated,” Sebastian bows his head, making Penny’s smile stretch even further.
Penny’s eyes widen at the sight of Ominis. “Oh, f-forgive Penny. Penny did not know there would be another friend staying here. Penny did not prepare another bed for him.”
“It’s alright, Penny. I didn’t warn you ahead of time,” she eases the frazzled house elf with a gentle smile. “Besides, he’ll be staying with me,” the words leave her mouth before she realizes what she just said. Her whole body flushes and she’s aware of Sebastian turning his head over to stare at her with a wide grin.
“I-I mean, um, if that’s what you want, Ominis,” she stammers, her whole body feeling like it had been set ablaze.
Ominis, his cheeks flushing, smiles softly towards her, “I don’t mind.”
“Merlin’s Beard. How improper,” Sebastian teases with a smirk. “It hasn’t even been a full day, and you’re already asking him to bed.”
“To sleep!” she exclaims, but it only makes his smirk grow. “I’m not having this conversation with you. Now, if you’d excuse me, I’d like to get supper going.”
She stomps out of the room, huffing while she does.  As she enters the kitchen, Sebastian’s snickers follow her until they’re interrupted by the sound of a sharp zap from Ominis. Listening to their playful banter, makes her giggle, and she flicks her wand to begin cooking.
Dinner goes smoothly with everyone lively discussing what they’d like to do this summer. From exploring the Forbidden Forest to checking out old Ashwinder camps, it’s Sebastian’s talk of possible Curse-Breaking which triggers a flash of concern in Ominis’ eyes. His gaze darkens momentarily, reflecting his worry, but keeps his concerns to himself - his jaw tightly clenched. Once dinner is over, she heads upstairs to prepare for bed while Ominis and Sebastian chat for a while longer. Her mind is swirling with a mix of emotions - contemplating heavily over the events of today, and the events yet to come. The thoughts don’t cease even as she bathes. And as she waits in bed while Ominis prepares for bed, her stomach twists on itself.
Her fingers tug on the sheets absentmindedly while her teeth chew her bottom lip. They’ve napped together before, whether on the floor or on a couch, but this is far different - far more intimate. Eventually, Ominis strolls into the room, and he gives her a warm smile, releasing her from her worrying thoughts. She didn’t think it possible for him to look even more handsome, but as he comes towards her - she all but gasps.
His silver silk pajamas make his skin seem more translucent, like a literal beam of moonlight. His mussed hair is slightly damp still, darkening his blonde hair to a richer brown, and it falls gracefully around his sharp features. His effortless beauty sends her heart hammering in her chest. Placing his wand on the nightstand, he climbs into bed. He settles himself then looks over towards her.
“Don’t be nervous,” he says with a gentle smile. “I didn’t take Sebastian’s teasing to heart.”
She wants to reply, but her heavy tongue is tangled in her mouth the longer she stares at him. He has an amused smile as his hand finds her arm then moves down to her hand. He guides her to him, and she shifts to be flushed against him. They’re both on their sides, gazing at each other - even if his eyes only give the appearance of doing such. His hand covers her cheek in a gentle touch as he feels over her face, his other arm secure around her back. Her skin flutters and heats under his fingers. She reaches her hand to mimic his, stroking his high cheekbone with a soft smile, enjoying how close they are.
“I’ve been wanting this too,” he whispers his admittance with a slight blush.
Her eyes widen, a small gasp escaping her lips.
“Truly?”
He smiles with a nod, “Yes. I sleep better when you’re close to me.”
“So do I,” she quickly whispers as she leans in - the scent of his mint and lavender soap fills her nose. Their kiss is intimate and tender as they share in the other’s comfort. Magic entwines around the both of them, and they part with a sigh, smiles playing on both of their lips. He’s sparkling, like a star in the night sky, from the magic, and she can’t believe how breathtaking he is.
His smile is the first to fall - a grimace starting to tug on his handsome features.
“What’s on your mind, love?” she asks, brushing back his loose hair from his temple.
He smiles for a moment at being caught, before the worry seeps back into him - darkening his moonlit eyes.
Stroking her cheek, he whispers, “I was thinking on what Professor Hecat said to me. After the Boggart.”
He pauses with a slight frown then continues, “She made a point - about the Ministry - if they were to know of your power, they would be keen to investigate. A power like yours would scare them. And I… I don’t want them to apprehend you one day - locking you up because they believe you to be a danger.”
Her brows furrow as she kisses the side of lips to ease the creases from his porcelain skin.
“They’re not some boogeyman that’ll kidnap me in my sleep, Ominis,” she tries to smile, but it falls short. Her eyes close with a sigh, “But, I do worry they’ll send someone to investigate. If Hecat is already suspicious, I’d imagine she’s already informed someone at the Ministry of me. At the very least, to investigate Professor Fig’s death.”
“Once they begin to look into you, I worry they will see you as only a threat,” he whispers. “Solely because they don’t understand what your magic is. Fear of the unknown makes people do irrational things, and I don’t want you to be on the receiving end of such a thing.”
She presses her forehead to his, making him sigh softly and wrap his fingers into the locks of her hair.
She bites her lip before saying, “If it’s Hecat’s, or any of the other professors’, account they’re hearing, then it may be concluded that I am just more magically talented than most. And as for why I was there, I’m just a nosy, overachieving student that got caught up in something I had no business being in.”
His frown doesn’t ease as he shakes his head, “And what of the Ashwinders? I’m sure they’ll investigate the rumors surrounding their dismantlement, as well as your involvement.”
“I wasn’t the only one who was involved,” she counters. “Natty was as well. Which goes along with my story of being a nosy student. The worst they’ll get me for is not having more faith in the Ministry to handle these matters.”
He closes his eyes, a scowl forming as he digs his fingers into her hair, pulling her closer to him.
“What if that’s not enough to satiate them? Aurors are known for using Legilimency in their investigations. If they see into your mind, then-then, they’ll know the truth,” he lets out a heavy breath as his eyes open to reveal them welling with tears. “I don’t want them to take you away. I-I don’t have the power to stop them.”
She hushes him with a soft kiss on his cheek then his lips.
“Then I’ll work on my Occlumency all summer,” she replies.
His grimace deepens even more, “Becoming an Occlumens, it requires you to shut off your mind. To compartmentalize your very self, and master your emotions. You would have to deny essential parts of who you are, and even then someone could infiltrate your mind anyways.”
She stares at him, reeling from this information.
“Are you not an Occlumens yourself, Ominis?”
“I am. Which is why I am reluctant for you to traverse down this path,” his features soften as he caresses her cheek. “The best part about you, what I love the absolute most - is how you feel things. Your emotions are so powerful, and effervescent, I… don’t want you to lose that part of yourself.”
Ominis’ eyes are shadowed despite the moon filtering in from the window to illuminate him. A horrible sorrow twists at her heart at what Ominis had to do in order to survive his childhood. She knew he was strong, but to be reminded of it - to know he suppresses his emotions out of necessity - makes her want to hold him, and never let go. She nuzzles into his neck, placing tender kisses on his soft flesh. He holds her close to him, resting his head on hers with a sigh.
“Then, I’ll just have to prove to them I am no threat,” she states.
His fingers tangle themselves around strands of her hair as he whispers, “That may work. You’ve done so much good for the hamlets here. If needs must, I’m sure we could have several people - witnesses - come forward to admit as such. Even the professors might be willing to speak up on your behalf as well. We could have a whole defense for you from all walks of life if need be.”
She smiles as she kisses him.
“See, galavanting through the country-side as its perks,” she giggles.
He scoffs, “That is still not a valid enough excuse for you to throw yourself into harm’s way, darling,” he presses his lips to her forehead with a sigh. His body relaxes as his worries settle. She won’t go down without a fight - something he admires her greatly for. He goes back to playing with her hair and stroking her back, a soft smile playing on his lips.
“How… has it been? Not having to go out as much,” he wonders.
“Calm, if not a bit dull at times. Not that I’m complaining. I think I needed a bit of mundane in my life. That’s not to say I haven’t been enjoying my time being spent with you instead.”
He chuckles, “I’m glad being with me is ‘mundane’ enough for you.”
“That is not at all what I meant!” she exclaims with a giggle as he laughs.
“Well, I’m sure you and Sebastian will find ways to get into trouble this summer. If dinner was any indication of your plans, you two will be avoiding any sort of dullness like the plague. And with that, tell me before you rush off into some cave, or ruin. Please. I worry enough as is with his Curse-Breaking nonsense, and having to be away from you. I would rather not find out you’re lost in a cave infested with Acromantulas.”
“I swear. No caves, caverns, castles, or whatever else without first inviting you to come along,” she promises with a warm smile, making him smirk with a slight snort.
He’s quiet for a moment, twisting her hair with his nimble fingers while his silver-blue eyes search for hers.
“And what of your magic?”
She frowns at the question, her eyes drifting away from his face and towards his chest.
“You mean have I felt the urge to start taking the pain from other people? No, I haven’t,” she plays with the collar of his silk shirt. “But, it’s always easy to say ‘no’ to something when the temptation is not there.”
“You worry you may be tempted when you use Ancient Magic,” Ominis whispers, his breath ruffling her hair.
“I haven’t had any reason to really use Ancient Magic lately. Not like how I was before,” she admits. “What if once I do call upon it, I can’t stop? What if I’m not strong enough to resist it?”
He’s quiet again, his heart strumming at a peaceful rhythm in time with his quiet breaths.
“You won’t succumb to power, my love,” he says firmly. “You refused Sebastian at every opportunity for dark magic. Your will is strong. And if you have doubts, you’ll tell me. Then we can figure it out together.”
It’s such a simple thing, but the relief of knowing he’s there - always there - makes her relax into his embrace. He won’t let her fall.
“How did I get so lucky to have you in my life,” she whispers.
“Please, it’s I who’s the lucky one. I love you,” he kisses her forehead with a soft smile. “Get some sleep, darling. Dream of sweet things, as I know I will in your arms.”
“I love you,” she hums, enjoying being swaddled in his embrace.
It’s not hard to start to drift away while listening to the steady rise and falls of his chest.
When her eyes slowly flutter open in the morning, she’s met with the most breathtaking sight. The sun lands softly upon Ominis. Like a gentle caress, it highlights his sharp cheekbones and jawline - illuminating his pale skin. His dark blonde hair is mussed and is strewn beautifully around his face. A warm smile plays on his serene features, sending her heart skipping and stuttering. His arms are still around her, as if to ensure she wouldn’t leave his side. She could stare at him for the rest of time, if allowed.
Feeling her eyes on him, he slowly awakens. He pulls her close to his chest with a soft sigh, nuzzling into her neck.
“Good morning,” she whispers, stroking his hair.
“Good morning indeed,” he whispers back, smiling into her neck before rising up to face her.
His hand rests against her cheek, his fingers tracing over her features. She angles her face so he has better access, making him smile. He brushes over her nose, her cheeks, her brows, her lips, her chin, her jaw, then finally her hair. Guiding her towards him, he captures her lips in a warm kiss. He pulls her closer to him, leaving no space between them, while he dives his tongue into her mouth.
The creak of the bedroom door opening gets their attention. He listens while she stares at an overinflated, paper bird fluttering into the room, swirling and gliding until it’s right above them. With a loud cracking bang, it explodes in a bright red flash. Ominis jerks in her arms then whips his head towards the door.
“Sebastian!” he yells, causing a boyish giggle from downstairs to waft up to them.
“Glad you’re awake! Come eat breakfast,” Sebastian calls.
Ominis groans, plopping down in bed with a scowl, “I’m going to turn him into a toad.”
She laughs, kissing his cheek, “I could handle a toad for a summer, I think.”
His scowl melts away into a beautiful grin as he turns his face towards her. He reaches his hand up to cup her cheek, caressing her face with a tender touch.
“I’m going to send another one, if you two don’t get down here!”
They both groan at Sebastian’s insistence, and they reluctantly get out of bed. She calms Ominis down enough to not jinx Sebastian, and they’re both surprised to find three plates of food already on the small circular table.
“You made breakfast,” she exclaims. “By yourself?”
“Don’t act too surprised,” Sebastian scoffs, then he waves his hand over his spread. “Now, come on. It’s nearly cold, thanks to your slowness. Oh, and you’re both welcome by the by.”
Ominis glares at him, “You make it so hard to be grateful.”
Sebastian’s cooking truly isn’t bad, she thinks to herself after the first mouthful of eggs. Not that she would ever admit that to him at the current moment as he looks far too smug as is. They eat, their spirits rising as their bellies fill. But, once their plates are empty, she realizes Ominis will be leaving soon. Something he seems to realize as well as his features fall into a somber expression. She helps Sebastian clean up while Ominis goes to gather his things.
Once everyone is dressed, the hour is nearly eleven, and Ominis is ready to depart. She holds Ominis’ hand as they venture outside, enjoying the last bit of his warmth while she still could. They stop a ways from the shop, turning to face each other. She adjusts his tie with a soft smile, smoothing down the fabric of his dark gray vest in deep thought. His head touches hers in a tender touch and she looks up to his bright blue eyes. He grips her tighter around her waist and his voice is quiet, just for her to hear, as he says,
“I’ll be back soon, love,” he smiles. “You’ve cast a spell over me, and I can’t stand to be apart from you for long.”
She sighs with a hint of a frown tugging on her lips, “I wish we didn’t have to part at all.”
His expression softens and he nods.
“So do I,” he takes her hand and kisses the top of it. “But, it will make our time together all the more sweeter.”
“Oh, Merlin’s Beard,” Sebastian groans as he slings himself over the two lovebirds, making them separate. “You do know that he is literally coming back in two weeks time? He’s not going away forever.”
“I’m aware,” she scoffs with her cheeks blooming a heated shade. When she looks back at Ominis she gasps, “Oh, I almost forgot!”
She rushes back into the shop, leaving Ominis and Sebastian outside with amused grins. Sebastian retracts his arm back to his side and Ominis tilts his head towards Sebastian with a stern expression.
“Sebastian,” Ominis faces him. “While I’m gone, I need you to promise me something.”
Sebastian’s eyes widen as he takes in Ominis’ austere pose.
“Anything,” Sebastian replies.
Ominis places his hand on Sebastian’s forearm in a firm grip, “Promise me you’ll take care of her. If anything were to happen to her, if she were to get hurt, or-or, anything, I-I don’t know what I’d do. So, please. Protect her.”
Sebastian grips Ominis’ hand with a sure nod, “I promise. She’ll be in good hands this summer. Don’t you worry. And the same goes to you. Look after Anne for me.”
“Always,” Ominis smiles.
Sebastian pats Ominis’ hand, and Ominis’ arm drops back to his side just as she rushes back out with a wrapped box in tow. Glancing between the two, she gives them a curious brow raise as she hands Ominis the package.
“What’s this?” Ominis holds the wrapped gift, noting how heavy it is. It’s a rectangular, wooden box and something akin to paper rattles inside.
“A gift. For you and Anne,” she smiles. “You’ll have to open it once you’re there.”
“Very well,” Ominis chuckles as he tucks the package into his jacket pocket, shrinking it down to the size of a galleon.
She bites her lip as she stares at Ominis. He’s not left yet, but her heart already aches. She places her hands on his chest and he’s quick to hold her closer to him. Her arms wrap around his neck and he gives her a warm smile.
“Don’t fret, my love,” he whispers. “We will soon be together again. I promise.”
His hand moves up to her cheek - stroking her with a tender, but firm touch. His stormy blue eyes are lidded and his breath picks up.
“Until then,” he whispers before he presses his lips to hers.
She melts into his embrace and into his kiss. Her hands hold onto his neck and cheek while he tries to pour all the love he feels for her into this kiss - this moment. He can feel her love and her longing echo back to him in return. Their bond tangles around them like fiery cords - searing their skin and etching into their very bones. They both lose themselves in the other as they both engrave this moment into their minds. How they taste, smell, feel against the other. His heart is beating wildly in his chest and he feels hers doing the same.
When they part, it’s slow and they’re both breathless. They both stroke the other’s cheek and as she stares into his heated face, she thanks her lucky stars to love someone like him - her Ominis.
“I’ll write you. Everyday,” she murmurs.
“Then, I’ll look forward to your owl,” he smiles fondly.
She wraps her arms around his neck in a tight embrace. He holds onto her waist with a heavy sigh, nuzzling into her neck to enjoy her sweet scent for a moment longer. They finally let the other go, their hands holding on before Ominis takes a step back and releases her.
“Try to keep eachother out of trouble,” Ominis grins as he pulls out his wand.
“Now, that’s asking for a lot,” Sebastian teases as he stands next to her with his hands on his hips. “Get going, lover boy. We’ll be here when you get back.”
Ominis smiles, “Goodbye for now then.”
“Safe travels,” she waves.
“Give Anne my love,” Sebastian says.
Ominis nods, turning around and walking down the path and up the hill. She watches him, finding it hard to breathe the further he walks away. Sebastian places a strong arm around her back, gripping onto her shoulder. She looks briefly up to Sebastian with a grateful smile then she goes back to watching Ominis.
Ominis pauses at the top of the hill and turns around, pointing his wand back to where her and Sebastian were. He’s surprised to find her still there watching him. He can’t stop his smile at seeing her aura pulsing brightly and shimmering in vibrant waves. Something about her waiting, just for him, makes his heart jump to his throat. An ache forms in his chest and he’s tempted to run back to her to fill this void within him. Ominis lets out a heavy breath, forcing himself to turn away, and head to Feldcroft.

Reconnection Pt 3
Nurse Blainley emerged from her office at the desperate pleas from Ominis for help.
“What’s happened? Were you present for the incident? Tell me everything.” she commanded as she began to examine the still-unconscious Arabella.
“We… She…kissed me…” Ominis confessed in confusion and distress “then she collapsed… did I…somehow do this to her?”
“Unlikely, Mr. Gaunt.” Nurse Blainely continued her examination as she spoke. “ She is stable, I’d like to observe her until she rouses on her own. As you seem to be close with her, and you were present when it happened, you may be excused from any classes to remain here. Please alert me as soon as she wakes.”
Ominis nodded absentmindedly in agreement, he still felt this was somehow his fault, that he had done this to her. He remained by her side, willing her to open her eyes and be okay. She now seemed to just be asleep, but the sounds she had made when she collapsed rang out in Ominis’ head for hours. Finally, mercifully, she stirred late in the night, or early in the morning, he wasn't sure exactly how long she had been like this.
Arabella groaned miserably as she attempted to turn over before feeling a wave of nausea at the pain in her head. “Arabella? Can you hear me, are you awake?” Ominis stirred immediately in the chair next to her bed, before she could answer him he moved to fetch Nurse Blainley, but she caught the hem of his sleeve in her fingertips “wait, please.” He sat on the bed beside her, clutching her hand in both of his.
“What happened, are you okay?” He questioned, distraught with lingering panic and concern. "You collapsed in the hall, we weren't sure what to do besides let you rest and wait for you to wake. You've been unconscious for hours."
Arabella properly opened her eyes for the first time since stirring, the fear and distress etched on his face made her stomach weave knots. "I'm okay, I promise. I'm truly sorry I scared you like that. It's…complicated, but this happens. Occasionally."
Ominis took the deepest breath he had in hours. This happens. Then it wasn't him, he didn't cause this. He dropped his head down to rest on the mattress, a sudden wave of exhaustion following his absolvement. "You're okay." He repeated, muffled.
She reached out and stroked the top of his head, a wave of guilt came over her at his distress and subsequent relief. "I'm okay, but...Ominis I need your help."
Nurse Blainley hurried over to Arabella with a tray of various containers "you've certainly had an unusual first day, Miss Night. Mr. Gaunt, I must speak privately with my patient. You may return to your dormitory now. Arabella will be released in the morning, provided an uneventful remainder of her stay.”
“Right, of course,” Ominis murmured, irritated at the her abrupt interruption and dismissal but knowing better than to challenge the sleep-deprived nurse.
“Thank you for taking care of me, I’ll see you in the morning.” Arabella squeezed his hand. He gave her a squeeze back as he hesitated before giving up his post beside her.
_________
Arabella was discharged from the hospital wing at Sunrise, but still, Ominis was waiting outside the arched double doors for her. Wearily, she asked “Couldn’t sleep either? We need to talk, where can we go to speak privately?”
“I know a place, follow me.” He muttered, still troubled by their last conversation, they make their way to The Undercroft in anxious silence. Once the door locked behind them, Ominis rounded to her “What did you mean when you said you need my help? What’s going on with you?” He bristled with confusion and the frustration from ruminating for hours.
Sighing heavily, she stepped in closer to him, “This is going to be a difficult conversation, Ominis.” She paused for a long moment, “Can you tell me about…Noctua?” Ominis froze, his expression steeled and brow furrowed at the name.
“Where did you hear that name?”
“She died here, at Hogwarts, didn’t she?”
“How do you know about her?”
“It’s complicated…”
“Then explain it.” he retorted severely, “I do not appreciate the cloak-and-dagger, speak plainly.”
Arabella was taken aback by his shift into agitation “Well, I…First, I’m sorry, about your aunt. When I had my…incident, it’s because she had made a request of me.” Arabella paused “I know this is a great deal to take in, but Ominis, I need your help, she won’t tell me where she is. She said "only a descendant" can take me to her, I need you.”
“How have you possibly been in contact with her? This reeks of dark magic.”
“No, it’s not even close, I promise. The women on my mother’s side of my family, we serve the deceased. The restless reach out, we find them, and fulfill their final rest requests. We’ve been doing so for generations, I’m not even really sure how long. When my mother passed away last summer, I took her role.”
Arabella watched him carefully as he considered what she said, increasingly perplexed. He took a deep breath and shook his head. "What was her request, to be moved from Hogwarts?"
"Not to leave Hogwarts entirely, just to have a proper burial, she wants to be near the lake. Please Ominis, I can’t find her without you, I need your help.”
Ominis shifted his weight anxiously as he grappled with her implications. They were silent for an agonizingly long moment, just the thought of going back there made his skin crawl.
"I'm sorry, I cannot be of help in this. Noctua disappeared long ago, along with any indication of her intentions."
"Ominis, I-"
"I'm sorry, Arabella." He turned and briskly walked towards the door.
"Ominis, please" Arabella started after him, but heeded the warning of the undercroft door slamming behind him as she sank to the ground, staring at the spot he'd fled from.

Werewolves
One shot
Summary: Ominis, Sebastian, and MC fight a Duncan Hobhouse who has transformed into a werewolf.
Warnings: Violence!!!
Tumblr media
The creature rises from the gruesome chaos it had wrought.
“Duncan…?” You try to sooth the massive werewolf who had once been the cowardly Ravenclaw. Covered in blood the werewolf stands in the moonlight over a body of indistinguishable origins. Wand trained on the creature Ominis hisses.
“Do not engage the brute. Let me dispatch it.” A low growl emits from the beast. Right as the werewolf begins a charge at the both of you a houl is heard from across the large grassy field you are standing in. Stopping its charge the animal sniffs the air. Another houl can be heard and this time you can see the culprit. Sebastian stands hands cupped to his mouth from across the field letting out long mournful houls. Duncan charges in the direction of the houls.
“Sebastian!” You scream running after the werewolf. In horror you watch as Sebastian goes down. You have never seen Ominis run so fast, he desperately charges towards his friend screaming a slew of curses at the werewolf.
“Confingo!” Ominis blasts the creature off your friend.
“Dipulso!” You send the werewolf flying into the forest. Sebastian lay bleeding in the grass, a large bite taken from his arm, claw marks scoring deep in his chest.
“No…” you whisper tears filling your eyes. Ominis crouches down murmuring spells, wand hovering over Sebastian's limp form.
“Stay with us.” Ominis pleads as he feverishly tries to heal his friend. Tears threaten to choke you as you stand by helplessly. At a rustling in the forest you look up just in time to see the creature charging once again. Body filling with rage you summon your ancient magic forth.
“Just leave us alone!” You cry lifting the creature from the earth. Again and again you drum the animal against the ground, until Ominis words register.
“Mc! That is enough!” The blinding rage dissipates. You can see the sad crumpled body of the werewolf lying limply in the dirt. Your own cruelty sickens you.
“We have to get Sebastian back to hogwarts!” Ominis cuts across your racing mind. Gingerly you levitate Sebastian's body in the air trying to keep him as still as possible. The walk back to Hogwarts is long and grueling, the whole journey you stay silent listening for Sebastian’s labored breathing. Once in the castle Madam Blainey whisks Sebastian away to the hospital wing. People are dispatched to see what has come of Duncan. All you and Ominis can now do is sit and wait. The tears which you have been fighting the entire walk now will not come to offer any release. Your chest feels like it could explode. Shell shocked you sit on the steps outside of the hospital wing watching Ominis pace restlessly.
“He will be alright…” you offer lamely your own words sounding hollow.
“He is infected now. Nothing will ever be alright again!” Ominis snaps at you. The anguish in his face and truth in his words makes your blood run cold.
“You don’t think…”
“If Duncan survives this I will kill him myself.” Ominis voice is cold. Remembering your own cruelty your lip quivers.
“You do not mean that.”
“I do.”
“Shut up!” You shout rising from your step. Viciously you slap Ominis across the face.
“Don’t you dare say a thing like that again! Just shut up!” You can no longer see through your tears. Ominis tries to move to comfort you but you shake him off.
“You do not understand… the weight of taking a life.” Brokenly you stammer. “Sebastian will be alright.” Turning you start to walk away.
“Where are you going?” Ominis demands.
“To look for Duncan.”

“Did your bag grow wings?”
Sebastian Sallow x Reader
Summary: Sebastian takes pity on a girl who’s bag has been stollen by bullies.
Warnings: angst kinda, hospital and chronic illness trigger
Word count 1066
Tumblr media
Sebastian eyes the girl as she awkwardly tries to scramble up a tree to retrieve a bag caught in the branches. After a few failed attempts she stands hands on her hips staring up at the bag, a forlorn look darkening her brow.
“Did your bag grow wings?” He asks in his most serious voice, scrutinizing the bag. Turning to Sebastian the girl seems to only now notice him.
“Oh just leave me be!” She pleads before bending over to pick up a rock.
“As you wish.” Sebastian chuckles, throwing his hands up, backing away. The girl rolls her eyes, then begins to throw rocks at her bag.
“You will never get it down like that.” Sebastian laughs at her struggling. “Where is your wand?” Whipping her head around the girl catches Sebastian off guard with a tearful face. She looks as if she is going to say something then turns around, running away with all of her might.
“Hey wait up!” Sebastian calls, whipping out his wand, retrieving the bag. The girl does not stop for his call, instead running back to her house. Standing there dumbly Sebastian grasps the bag, feeling the shape of a wand inside.
“Dummy, you need your wand.” Sebastian shakes his head walking in the direction the girl ran. He does not make it far before he hears soft crying coming from the girls bathroom. Wavering before the door, Sebastian tries to decide the correct course of action, knowing he could just give her bag to a house elf and be done with it. They would return it to the rightful owner, however the sound of muffled cries tugs at him.
“Merlin's beard this better not backfire.” Sebastian sighs before pushing open the door and walking in. The crying stops the second the door opens.
“I have your bag.” Sebastian offers, hoping he has not just stumbled across another different unfortunate girl. Sniffles come from the stall furthest from the door.
“Do you want your bag or not?” More silence. As Sebastian turns to leave a small voice comes from the stall.
“Please leave my bag.”
“She speaks!” Sebastian laughs as he gently sets the bag down in front of the stall.
“Thank you.” Her voice is small and shaky.
“Anytime.” As he turns to leave a thought occurs to him. “Who threw your bag in that tree?” There is a long silence then the girl lets out a shaky breath.
“Doesn’t matter.”
“Yes it does.” Sebastian’s voice is firm.
“Then I did it.” She shoots back defiantly. Running his finger through chestnut hair Sebastian chuckles.
“You are a strange one.” Then makes his exit.
As Sebastian sits to dinner he watches with satisfaction as the girl's bullies shuffle over to where she sits. Sebastian easily tracked down the cuprates teaching them a lesson they would not soon forget. The group of thrashed malcontents cast fearful looks in Sebastian’s direction while they deliver their apology to the girl. She too keeps sending looks in Sebastian’s direction, and the looks do not stop after the dejected group of miscreants shuffled to their seats. Before Sebastian can finish half of his plate he notices the girl standing excusing herself from the table. Unable to contain his curiosity, Sebastian stands to follow the girl. At his friends sudden movements Ominis gives Sebastian a funny look.
“Going somewhere?”
“The toilet, I need some air.” Sebastian mumbles as he makes his escape ignoring Ominis objection,
“Oh yes, just the place I go for fresh air.” Sebastian follows the girl unnoticed as she leads him all the way up to the infirmary, then sits on a bed expectantly.
“Did those troglodytes hurt you?” Sebastian snaps. She whips her head around, surprised by his sudden appearance.
“I swear I’ll-“ Sebastian’s treats are cut off by a soft giggle from the girl.
“I thought I heard someone behind me.” Sebastian stuffs the floor with a shoe putting his hands in his pockets.
“I… Well, I was worried that maybe they had said something nasty to you. Never can count on a bully to give a good apology.”
“I don’t know what I have done to earn your protection.” She raises an eyebrow to the freckled face before her.
“I just can’t stand to see a pretty girl cry.” Again Sebastian is given an eyebrow. Before the girl can give her retort the nurse walks in. At the sight of Sebastian standing there the nurse pauses giving the girl a funny look, to which she just shrugs in response.
“And how are we feeling today?” The nurse asks, hovering her wand over the girl as a dim green light is emitted from the tip.
“Fine.” She replies dismissively.
“That bad?” Stopping her work the nurse study’s the girl's face. “How many fits did you have?”
“Five.”
“Goodness me child! You know you are supposed to come and see me the second you have more than three.” Thrusting a vile of a sweet smelling potion into the girl's hands the nurse hurries away.
“I’ll be back.” She calls. As she drinks the liquid, a chill causes her whole body to tense.
“Are you alright?” Sebastian’s worried voice brings her eyes back on him.
“That’s a broad question.” She teases.
“I guess it is.” He rubs the back of his head. The sight is so reminiscent of his own sister trying a slew of potions given to her by a nurse who always wore the same worried expression. At the thought Sebastian begins to feel queasy. He sits on the ground.
“Are you alright?” Now it’s the girls turn to look concerned.
“That’s a broad question.” He mocks her tone. Looking down at her hands the girl seems to say more to herself then Sebastian.
“My second year at Hogwarts. I was in an accident. Had to take a year off to recover.” Sebastian stands again feeling guilty, he knew she had not wanted to be followed here and by the way she is sitting now she still does not want him here.
“I’m sorry.” He stammers as he backs toward the door. “I will give you privacy now.” All of his usual suave demeanor gone, he fumbles with the handle.
“Thank you.” She calls after him. “For your help today. With those jerks and my bag. Thank you.” He nods before disappearing out the door. He needs to find Ominis.

Ominis just couldn’t wait
Ominis X MC
Oneshot
Summary: You did not expect Ominis to show up in your carriage back to Hogwarts. But here he is and he missed you.
Warnings: sexual content 18+
Tumblr media
A carriage drawn by Thestrals touches down right outside your home. Summer is finally over and you are eager to return to Hogwarts. Waving his wand the driver levitates your suitcase on top of the carriage. Giving your parents a final wave over your shoulder you hop into the carriage.
“Ominis!” You exclaim in delighted surprise as you see him sitting calmly in the seat. A cheeky playing on his lips.
“Hello darling.” Before you can answer, his arms have circled your waist and pulled you across the carriage. Kisses are planted all over your face as the Thestrals take flight causing you to bounce in Ominis lap. Holding onto his shoulders for stability you plant a small kiss on the nape of his neck.
“I’ve missed you.” You whisper. As you kiss you let your hands roam up and down his muscular arms which hold you close. Ominis lets out a low growl as you nibble his neck. Sliding his hands under your blouse Ominis explores your curves. Remembering the driver you glance at the shut curtains to the car hoping this is enough to conceal your deviant behavior. As his fingers trace over your nipple you suck in a sharp breath collapsing against his body. You can feel his arousal pressed against your inner thigh as you straddle his body, the motion of the carriage causing a tantalizing amount of friction in your own delicate place. Seemingly of their own accord your hips begin to move in slow circles as Ominis hands run over your body. Firm hands guide your hips against his body so that your circles are now moving against his member. He thrusts into you only separated by your skirt and his trousers. You press your face into his chest trying to bite back a moan rising inside of you.
“Ominis.” You whisper your hands weakly fighting his own which now attempt to slide off your skirt.
“Is this not what you want?” He teases one finger under the line of your skirt running it around your waist. Shuddering at the contact your legs tremble with desire. Sensing the motion he smirks, withdrawing his hand.
“Is this not what you want?” The carriage gives a jolt as the team takes dive, you cling to Ominis to keep from falling off his lap letting out a small while. Chuckling his grip on your waist tightens. Ominis grinds against you then pushes you on to the seat next to him. In protest you whine and try to climb back on top of him, but his hand keeps you in your seat.
“Tell me what you want.” He commands. Flushing with embarrassment you mumble staring at your squirming legs.
“I want you.” A gentle but firm hand takes your face angling it toward him.
“Again.”
“I want you.” You sob. His eyes darken as he presses a hungry kiss into your lips, hands returning to your skirt. Fingers run under the edge of the fabric again.

Otters and Aurors
Part three of Piercing eyes
Professor Sharp x MC
Summary: Rosie is taking swim in the river when none other then Aesop Sharp comes walking up the lane.
Warnings: none really
Tumblr media
To Rosie, naptime was her favorite time of the day. Not due to a lack of love for her tiny daughter, but because of her passion for swimming. As soon as Penny fell asleep Rosie would enchant an ear to listen in on the sleeping baby before she raced to the river. In an instant Rosie transformed into a sleek brown otter. With one swift dive she is in the water spinning and splashing in the current. Here, she can work out all of her frustrations. What to do about her brother. How hard it is to raise Penny alone. But most of all how badly she misses her husband. With his death so sudden and her left with the farm where child and what felt like the weight of the world Rosie still barely could wrap her mind around the idea she would never see him again. A deep loneliness settles in her stomach, she swims harder into the current. Zipping up and down the river bed Rosie tries to forget her worries, if only just for this moment. The sound of someone walking up the path catches Rosie off guard.
“Aesop!”
She chirps from the River, then ducks away. Being an unregistered animagus was not a conversation she wanted to have with an ex auror.
Unbeknownst to the otter Sharp is fully trained in spotting animagus in his surroundings. He spotted her instantly. A quiet laugh escapes him as the otter frolicked around in the water, not a care in the world. Aesop watched bemused as she scurried onto the bank and transformed behind a bush. Then nimbly she skipped across the water, like a pebble. Her thin white dress fluttering as she moved, giving her an ethereal quality. Sharp tried to take his time wandering up the path politely giving the woman a chance to ready herself.
Rosie hoped Sharp’s limp was bad enough if she ran over the river she would have time to change.
“How embarrassing being caught out wearing not but a night dress.” She felt so silly but the late spring was a hot one and she was just trying to cool off. She just hoped that he had not noticed her. Frantically she summons a blue dress which she can see draped over a chair in the kitchen. Trying to look casual as Sharp approaches, she messes with the dirt in a pot.
“Hello,” Rosie calls out sweetly if not a little breathlessly.
“I hope I have not caught you at a bad time.” Sharp greets “I was just stopping by for my order.”
“Not a bad time!” Wiping her not dirty hands on her dress Rosie stands smiling sweetly, secretly congratulating herself on pulling off her ruse. She can’t help but squirm under the scrutinizing eye of Sharp. She always feels as if he is looking deeper into her then most and it unnerves her.
“You were right, it is not a bad walk from the castle to your farm.” Sharp says amiably.
“I am glad you found it easily.” Rosie eyes the man with a funny expression wondering if he actually walked all that way in a suit.
“Come sit on my porch and I will fetch you some water.” Waving her hand Rosie beacons Aesop to sit. As Rosie fetches the water Aesop's eyes wander over the tiny but packed farm, every inch of the place was covered with some sort of magical herbs. Her small cottage was also so filled with plants that it looked more of a greenhouse than a home.
“I heard from Pippin you were an Auror.” Hesitantly Rosie begins. Aesop nods seemingly reluctant to discuss the topic. Giving a hard swallow Rosie pressed forward.
“I know we are not that well acquainted but I must beg for your assistance. You see my brother, he is in Azkaban for a crime I know he could not have committed.” At the request Sharps face goes dark.
“And what is your brother accused of?”
“Murder.”
“How can you be sure he is not the culprit? What lies beneath often shocks those closest to a person.” Rosie shakes her head vehemently,
“I know John. He is a lot of things, but a murder he is not. Especially not who they say he killed. He couldn’t have.” The tears which she fought so hard to hold back prick at Rosies eyes. Biting her lip hard to keep from openly weeping she implores.
“Please if there is any way you can help. Anything.” Solemnly Sharp nods,
“I will.” Seeing her mouth open to thank him, Aesop raises his hand.
“Do not thank me yet. It is likely there will be nothing I can do.” Nodding solemnly Rosie gives a hum, putting her hands to her hips.
“I will get him home one way or another.” She flashes her most convincing smile to Sharp. “Thank you for agreeing to help.” Letting the features on his face soften Sharp stands with a sigh.
“I will need to hear the whole story but I have a detention to proctor back at the castle. Tomorrow evening, would you be able to meet with me?” Clasping her hands to her mouth Rosie desperately tries to maintain her composure. All of this time no one would help her. No one would even bother returning an owl but now this practical stranger has agreed to help. Seeing her state, Aesop offers a handkerchief.
“I will return tomorrow evening.” Like a flash he is gone, leaving Rosie to dab at her face with the hankie. A cry from inside the house breaks the air, mom duties await.

----------------------------
Natty drums her fingers on her arms as the hour grows later and later. She begins to wonder if her friend will return tonight at all, or if she’s chosen the wrong place to take watch. The sound of rushing air gets her attention, and Natty lets out a soft sigh as her friend lands in the lonely courtyard. Before she can cast her Disillusionment Charm, Natty approaches her.
“Hello, my friend,” Natty greets with a warm smile as her friend whips around with wide eyes. “Back from a flight?”
She’s shocked for a moment before she nods, “Yes, I was just about to head inside. Were you… waiting for me?”
Despite the darkness, Natty notices how her puffy eyes are like deep wells, bottomless and devoid of their usual bright spark. Natty’s brows furrow, and she steps closer.
“I was. After today, I was worried. Seems rightfully so, given the late hour.”
Cursing her observant nature, the Fifth Year tries to force a genuine smile.
“I’m fine. Just… couldn’t sleep.”
“It seems we are both plagued with restlessness then. Come,” Natty turns on her heel and says over her shoulder, “Walk with me.”
She watches Natty as she strides away with a huff. The request isn’t one to be refused, so she follows after Natty. Natty is as proficient at sneaking around after hours as she is, and they manage to go unnoticed by the Prefects patrolling the corridors. They ascend the winding staircase to the top of the Astronomy Tower. Walking into the darkened circular room, the wood boards creak under their feet and the wind chills their cheeks. They slip underneath the telescope hanging by metal wires then Natty sits down, her feet overhanging between the railing. She joins Natty and, for a brief moment, the worries of the world recede.
The breeze is pleasant, albeit chilly, at this height and they can see for miles around.  Like glittering jewels, the soft glowing lights of the different hamlets dot the dark rolling hills of the valley. In contrast, the moon’s dark face allows the stars to shine brighter against the deep velvety black sky. The Milky Way stretches across the sky like a river and the night feels infinitely more vast.
“I like coming up here,” Natty says in a quiet, thoughtful voice. “Makes the world feel smaller, yet huge at the same time.”
She nods in agreement. Her grimace drags down her features and she looks down at the ground far below them. With her feet swinging over the edge, her stomach does a flip at the sheer height. Like they’re teetering over the edge into oblivion.
“What is on your mind?” Natty’s voice breaks the silence, causing her to look over at Natty. “And do not tell me ‘nothing’. I will hear no more of you saying ‘nothing’.”
Natty’s stern stare makes her wince and she’s forced to look away.
“Ominis returned without you today,” Natty adds. “Did something happen?”
Her brows furrow, “I don’t want to talk about it, Natty.”
“You must,” Natty replies. “It is eating you alive. Like a sickness.”
There’s another long pause, where the only noise between them is the breeze whistling between the wooden banisters above them, and Natty sighs.
“Do you not trust me? Is that why you are adamant about keeping me in the dark?”
Like she’s been stricken, she whips her head over to Natty with a stern frown.
“I do trust you. That’s not the problem,” she says with a shake of her head.
“Then what is? Mhm? Tell me.”
She frowns and looks away from Natty’s pressing gaze once more. Gnawing on her lip as she stares at the ground below; she closes her eyes, hoping when she opens them again this will all be a dream, but Natty’s heavy stare keeps her where she is.
“It feels like everything is falling apart,” she whispers. “Things I felt so sure about, are unraveling. And Ominis-,”
Her fingers dig into the wood boards. Even saying his name makes her heart twist and she finds it impossible to speak without shedding more hot tears.
Natty moves closer, “What about Ominis? Has he done something?”
“Yes,” she hisses. “He… broke our promise.”
“What?” Natty exclaims with wide eyes. “Th-That doesn’t sound like something he would do. What happened?”
Shifting in place, she can’t swallow down the lump in her throat. Natty’s hand reaches for her tightly clenched fist.
Natty’s smile is kind as she says, “You do not have to be alone in this. I want to help.”
Her fist relaxes and she holds Natty’s hand which is warm, like an inferno, against her own cold one. The tightness in her throat releases enough for her to speak.
“After class today, Ominis took me to look at flowers,” she begins. “He was asking me what happened today, and why I… haven’t been talking to him about what happened below Hogwarts.”
“Did you tell him?” Natty asks with the crane of her head.
“No. No, I-I don’t know why I can’t tell him, but I can’t!”
As she starts to cry, Natty holds her hand tighter.
“So what did he do?”
She chews her lip, sucking in a sharp breath, “You can’t tell anyone this, but Ominis is a Legilimens. And I’ve been… letting him in my mind on occasion. But, today, he peered into my mind without my permission, something he swore he’d never do! A-And he saw everything. He swore he would never do such a thing, yet…,”
She falls silent with tears streaming down her heated cheeks. Natty stares out towards the horizon in deep thought.
“I see,” Natty murmurs with downcast eyes. “That is most troubling indeed. I am very sorry, my friend. I know how much you love him, and I can see why you would not wish to speak to him again.”
Her eyes lock with Natty’s as she swiftly turns her head, her brows raised and her eyes wide. Her lips part in shock and her shoulders drop as if she's been kicked in the gut. She couldn’t imagine her life without him. And to never speak to him again… she shudders at the thought.
Natty smirks, “Ah, I see that you are not open to that idea. That is good. Then, you may be willing to listen to what I have to say next.”
Natty turns towards her and she does the same. Natty grabs both of her hands and squeezes them.
“I have seen people in love do very strange - and very stupid - things, for those they hold dear,” Natty states. “I have noticed how Ominis is with you, and I do not believe he’s ever had someone like you in his life before. It would not be hard to imagine he would be willing to do anything to keep what he has with you.”
Natty looks down with a heavy sigh, “I fear, I too, have been wishing to find out what happened below Hogwarts. You have not been the same, and we have all been very worried about you.”
She turns away with a scowl, “So, you agree with what he did then?”
“That is not what I am saying,” Natty bites back. “What he has done is wrong, and you will need to address the matter with him. What I am saying is that I understand why Ominis did something so rash and hurtful. Because he loves you. And he feels helpless to do anything to ease your pain. For I too feel just as helpless.”
Natty’s features contort into a heartbreaking expression. The Fifth Year’s gut twists at Natty’s anguish.
The Fifth Year’s head lowers with a whimper, “I don’t know how to talk about any of it.”
“You have not even tried,” Natty says, frowning. “That is very unlike you. Do you think the worst in us? That we will not listen? That we do not care about you?”
“I don’t know!” She snaps with a biting tone. “I don’t know how any of you will react once you know the truth. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d never wish to speak to me again. Why can’t any of you just let me deal with this on my own?!”
“We are trying, but you are not getting any better on your own,” Natty grimaces and squeezes her hands once more, “If you don’t wish to talk to us, fine. But, you must talk to Ominis. If you are still wanting to be with him, then you must talk to him. Keeping him at a distance is not an act of love, nor kindness.”
Natty cups either side of the Fifth Year’s face - holding her tear stricken gaze with a determined look,
“Work through this. Together with him. You may find that you will emerge even stronger than before. But, you have to be willing to open yourself to him again. Do not be afraid of what he may do, for you do not know for certain that is how he is going to react.”
She closes her eyes and more tears slip down her cheek, “And what if he doesn’t want to speak to me.”
Natty hums in thought again then she has a sure smile, wiping her tears with her thumbs.
“I don’t think Ominis will stop speaking to you. You’re important to him. Otherwise, he’d never do something like this. We tend to hold on tightly to those we love. Even if it hurts them sometimes.”
Her shoulders sag and she falls onto Natty’s shoulder with a whimper. Natty pats her head and holds her. It’s because he loves her… that he would ever do something like this. Because she left him no choice. The bitter realization that her efforts to keep him at a distance made him do this, tightens her throat.
“I… hurt him, too,” she murmurs into Natty’s robes. “Do you think I made him have to do this? Did I drive him to break his word?”
Natty rubs the Fifth Year’s back as she whispers, “I cannot say for certain. Only you and Ominis would know that answer.”
“Do you think there’s any hope for us?”
Natty giggles, “I do. You two are so in love, it’s sickening.”
She smiles and closes her eyes with a quiet sigh. She still loves Ominis - there’s no question in her mind about it. Natty releases her from her embrace, and the Fifth Year sits upright with a shuddering breath, wiping her cheeks with her sleeve.
“W-What should I do?” She questions in a near whisper.
Natty smirks, “Talk to Ominis. That is the only way to move forward. And do not keep this pain in your heart, my friend.”
Taking a deep breath, she nods, “You’re right. I’ll speak to him in the morning. Thank you, Natty. For everything.”
Natty hugs her, “That is what friends are for.”
They both stand and head out of the Astronomy Tower, with Natty heading to her dorm and the Fifth Year towards the Room of Requirement. As the Fifth Year enters the Room of Requirement, she heads over to her Vivarium and closes her eyes. The bond between her and Ominis has been reduced to a near whisper towards the outer edges of her mind.
She frowns at how quiet he is, retreating so far away from her. It makes her stomach twist with unease at the idea that he truly did not wish to speak to her again. Taking in a deep breath, she reaches for him anyways and whispers:
Ominis…,
====================
Ominis can’t bear the silence of his thoughts as he paces around the humming furnace - not even attempting to sleep. The events replay in his mind, tormenting him with their weight: her battle with Ranrok, Fig’s death, the fear of power, then all the horrible nightmares that led up to today. Bile crawls up his tight throat from the last thing he felt from her - betrayal. A sharp gasp threatens to escape his lips, but his jaw is clenched so tightly, it keeps the noise at bay.
He’s done many regrettable things in his life, and this most certainly was one of them. How could he have done this? How could he hurt the one person he cares for, the one he loves so much? He truly is no better than his family - causing misery and pain to all those around them. He is a Gaunt, through and through - and he’s nearly sick at the thought.
In the moment, it seemed like the right thing to do. He curses himself for not thinking much further beyond glimpsing into her mind. How did he think she would react to being deceived and invaded by someone she trusted? His arms circle around himself in a vain attempt to provide some comfort, but there’s nothing to keep this coldness at bay.
A pillow is thrown at his general direction - narrowly missing his head - followed by a mumbled,
“Go to bed, Gaunt.”
Then, Ominis hears the creaking of someone’s bed from the other side of the room, followed by the sounds of bare feet padding towards him.
“Come on,” Sebastian’s sleepy voice murmurs. “Let’s talk,” he grabs Ominis by his forearm and drags him out of the dorm room.
Ominis is unceremoniously shoved onto the couch in front of the fireplace, with Sebastian settling beside him with an exaggerated sigh. Ominis shoots him an annoyed glare which Sebastian responds with an eye roll.
“What’s eating at you, Ominis? You’ve kept everyone up all night with your incessant pacing,” Sebastian grumbles.
The crackling, popping fire - a sound Ominis normally finds most pleasant - does little to ease him. Even the heat emitting from the burning logs, and the smoky wood scent, doesn’t combat the chill seeping from his heart.
Sebastian groans, “Don’t you start giving the silent treatment too. She does that enough as is.”
Ominis whips his head over to Sebastian with a snarl, “Just go back to bed, Sebastian. I’ve already bothered you enough as is.”
Sebastian shifts and the couch slumps further - creaking and groaning from their weight - as he moves to be next to Ominis.
“Don’t be that way. What’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong? What’s wrong?! I’ll tell you what’s wrong, everything!” Ominis hisses, his brows furrowing.
Sebastian chuckles, “That certainly narrows it down.”
“I’m not in the mood, Sebastian,” Ominis snaps while he goes to stand, but Sebastian yanks him back down onto the plush couch. “Quit man-handling me!”
“Then stop acting like a child,” Sebastian replies sternly. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
Ominis scowls in Sebastian’s direction, but the scathing action is fleeting. He lets out a heavy breath and turns away with a grimace.
“Do you ever feel that, no matter how hard you try, you can’t escape your true nature?” Ominis asks in a low, quiet voice.
Sebastian’s eyes darken, “What do you mean?”
“I mean…,” Ominis squeezes his eyes shut and his jaw clenches. “I try so hard to distance myself from my family’s legacy. Yet, n-no matter what, I-I just end up exactly like them. I will always be a Gaunt.”
Sebastian places a hand on Ominis’ shoulder, “What in Merlin’s name makes you think that? That’s not remotely true. You’re nothing like them.”
“I am,” Ominis hisses through his teeth. “I just proved it today. I-I broke our promise. She and I swore to each other something sacred, and I went and ruined it. All because I couldn’t… I couldn’t bear to feel her suffering - her wasting away - any longer.”
“Ominis, what did you do?”
Ominis’ head falls, tears threatening to spill. He can barely breathe, his chest and throat are so painfully tight. Sebastian’s grip tightens on his shoulder as he looks at his tormented friend with a deep frown.
“I know you, Ominis,” Sebastian whispers. “I don’t believe you’re capable of doing something so terrible, especially to her.”
“But, I did,” Ominis’ hands ball up the fabric of his pants into tight fists. “I promised I would never enter her mind without her permission, and today… I did. I became the very thing I swore I would never be. I-I was just like my father.”
Ominis sucks in a sharp breath, his hands cover his face. Sebastian stares at the dying fire in disbelief. Ominis feels Sebastian’s arm wrap around his back, gripping onto his other shoulder in a side-hug. Even Sebastian’s fiery presence does nothing to warm him.
“Why did you do it?” Sebastian asks softly.
Ominis lowers his hands back down to his lap, knotting his fingers together. His lips press into a tight line, and his brows pinch. It’s the same question he’s been repeating to himself all night. Before he knows it, the words start tumbling out of his mouth.
“She’s been pushing me away - pushing everyone away - ever since she fought Ranrok. I’ve tried to be patient and let her speak to me on her own. But, after the Boggart today… I didn’t think she ever would. So, I thought if I saw what happened, she would be more willing to open up to me - or at least be comforted in knowing that I knew too, and she wasn’t alone anymore,” Ominis lets out a sharp, bitter laugh and his face twists into a cruel expression. “What a foolish thing to believe. Now, she’ll never speak to me again, and she’ll continue to suffer alone.”
Sebastian rubs up and down Ominis’ arm, his frown etches deeply into his freckled face.
“I doubt she’ll stop speaking to you, Ominis,” Sebastian says with a slight smile on his lips. “I know you can’t see the way she looks at you, but she’s absolutely, madly in love with you, just as you are with her.”
“And I used that against her!”
Sebastian winces at Ominis’ anguished tone. He squeezes Ominis’ shoulder, eliciting a whimper from Ominis.
“You’re not your father,” Sebastian insists. “You didn’t do this for some sick twisted reason. You did this out of love. And sometimes we do… anything for love. Regrettable things,” Sebastian’s voice grows quiet and Ominis turns his head towards him.
A heaviness seeps into the air as Sebastian’s hand retracts from Ominis, and he grips onto his knees.
“I know all too well why you did it,” Sebastian says with a solemn grin. “You were worried about her. And you went too far. That’s what you need to tell her.”
“Like that’s any excuse,” Ominis whispers, a frown creasing his face. “I doubt she’ll want to speak to me anyways. Why would she?”
Sebastian smiles, “She will. If she truly loves you - which I think she does - she’ll want to talk to you. Then you two can work this out, and our roommates will stop plotting your demise.”
Ominis flushes, his gaze falling to his lap again.
“I… didn’t mean to keep them up,” Ominis says with a faint smile tugging on his lips as the fire’s light dances in his pale eyes. “I appreciate you pulling me aside. Although, I would appreciate it more if you weren’t so literal in the meaning.”
Sebastian tousles Ominis’ already messy hair, grinning widely, “That’s what best friends are for.”
Ominis swats Sebastian’s hand away with a scoff.
“I should go find her,” Ominis says, mustering a smile before his features fall into a grimace as he stands. “Did you mean what you said? That I’m not… like Father?”
“I did, and I do. You may be a Gaunt, but I’m confident when I say that you don’t live up to the family name.”
Ominis’ heavy eyes lighten for a moment and he nods, “That’s the best compliment you’ve ever given me. You must truly be exhausted.”
“I am. And on that note,” Sebastian stands with a sigh - patting Ominis’ shoulder, “I’m going to bed. Good luck.”
As Sebastian’s heavy feet trudge back towards their dorm, Ominis feels a presence pressing against his mind. He nearly resists, but he recognizes who it is  - a voice he longs to hear.
Ominis… if you can hear me, and you still… wish to speak to me… then you know where to find me.
Before he can reply, she withdraws from his mind, leaving him gasping for breath. Without hesitation, Ominis leaves the common room - determined to find her and face the conversation that awaits him.
==================
Ominis ascends the final stair and faces down the corridor with a grimace. He walks down the hallway, cautiously approaching the place she’s taken refuge at. He stops and faces the wall - silently praying for it to reveal. Doubts fill his mind. What if the voice he heard was a product of his desperate imagination. After what he’s done, she may never want to speak to him again. His jaw clenches, gripping his wand tightly. He must try. He has to pull her off this ledge she’s so stubbornly clinging to.
Reaching out, his hand meets the cold, metal doorknob - eliciting a gasp of relief. Closing his eyes briefly, he opens the door and steps into the Room of Requirement.
The gray waters reflect the gloomy, overcast sky, blurring the line of the horizon and the sea. Waves break to shore, washing over her legs, before retreating back into the vast expanse. She wonders if there’s an end to this ‘endless’ ocean. Would it swallow her whole, or would it spit her back out? She grimaces, considering the temptation to hide here forever. But, she knows that would be too easy. She digs her fingers into the wet sand and closes her eyes.
Since talking with Natty, she’s been trapped in a harrowing depression. Waiting for Ominis hasn’t helped in the slightest. It’s like she’s caught in an indefinite limbo, awaiting for this storm to end. She pushed him to this point, and now they’re both laying in the wake of their actions and inactions. Ugliness pervades their beautiful relationship like a toxin, and she doubts he’ll ever want to speak to her again now that he knows the truth. Perhaps, that’s for the best for them to go their separate ways, but the mere thought makes her heart lump in her throat.
Amidst the symphony of crashing waves, the chirps and growls of her beasts ring off in the distance. They run and play behind her - having given up on her long ago for any sort of attention. She smiles softly at their joyous noises, reminiscent of their excitement when she first enters the Vivarium. Her eyes fly open and she scrambles to her feet to turn around. There, walking towards her, is Ominis.
The waves nudge against the back of her legs, urging her to approach him. She’s overjoyed to see him, but then the crashing reality of what happened slams into her. Her fists clench to her sides the longer she stares at him. The dormant indignation stirs within her chest and ignites her rage.
“I’m surprised you’re here,” she hisses between clenched teeth.
Ominis turns his face towards her, her various beasts scampering away at her harsh tone.
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
Dark circles are under his eyes and unkempt, wild hair gives him an uncharacteristically sloppy appearance. His disheveled suit and dress shirt adds to the unusual sight. She looks away, afraid of what she might find lurking within his gray eyes if she lingers any longer. Her fists form into tight balls.
“You have some nerve,” she says, her voice cracking. She clenches her jaw, determined to keep herself from going to him.
Ominis steps closer, pleading, “Please, I only wish to talk.”
She scoffs and shoots him her most scathing glare, “Talk? Is that what we do?”
“No. Not lately,” he replies quietly. A haunting shadow dulls his usual vibrant eyes, and she despises how hollow he looks. Clinging harder onto her anger even more, she resists the urge to go to him.
He inhales sharply and admits, “I should not have delved into your mind.”
“No,” her voice cracks, her emotions spiraling out of control. “I trusted you, Ominis. You promised me!”
“I know,” he whispers, his head lowering. “I broke your trust, and our promise.  And I will live with what I’ve done for the rest of my days. My word may not mean much to you right now, but I will spend every day trying to earn back your trust in me. I swear to you.”
Every day?
Her brows furrow as a startling realization hits her. He’s here. He chose to come back to her, despite knowing the truth. She’s not sure what to feel, so she anchors herself to her anger amidst this chaos.
“You are such a hypocrite,” she seethes, her voice unrecognizable even to herself. “You condemned and chastised Sebastian for breaking his word, yet you had no qualms doing it yourself!”
“You had left me no choice!” His cry rattles her and he takes an intense step forward, “You weren’t going to tell me, and it was tearing you apart! Did you expect me to just sit back and let you destroy yourself?! Do you not believe that I love you? I would do anything to ensure your happiness, even at the cost of you never speaking to me again.”
His pained words matches his tormented expression and she looks away once more with a gasp. Tears brim in her eyes and she digs her nails into the flesh of her palm to keep them at bay.
“You don’t know that,” she mutters in a low tone.
“Then tell me, would you have told me otherwise?”
Her teeth grind together from her clenching her jaw so hard. She looks up to the overcast sky in a vain attempt to find an answer. Bitter tears stream down her cheeks like raging hot rivers, and her lip trembles.
“Damn you, Ominis,” she seethes through her teeth. “Is that why you’ve come? To tell me you were justified in what you’ve done?”
“No. Please,” Ominis grimaces and he reaches towards her, but she steps away from him. His brows pinch. “I’m not trying to justify anything. I’m saying we’ve both been making these terrible decisions and assumptions based out of fear, and it needs to stop.”
She steps further away from him and shakes her head, “Why can’t you just leave me alone? It’s what’s best for both of us.”
He takes a sharp breath,  his jaw sets as he stares her down, “No. I will not.”
“Why?!” She screams. “Is it because of the bond we share? Did you feel obligated to come because of it? Well, don’t. In fact, I will gladly find a way to… t-to make it all stop. Then you won’t have to deal with me ever again!”
He closes his eyes with a wince, “No. I came because I care about you. And I love you. And I… don’t want to lose you. Which is why you can’t hide away forever. It’s not good for you.”
She lets out a bitter laugh, “Well, you would know. You know everything now!”
He flinches at her venomous words, but he remains quiet. Her brows knit together and her nostrils flare.
“You once asked what I see when I look at you,” she steps towards him and hisses in a cruel, harsh tone, “So, tell me, Ominis Gaunt. What do you see when you look at me now?”
He doesn’t back away. Instead, his features soften, impossibly so, and he whispers,
“I see you, my love.”
His words carry warmth, love, and genuineness. She recoils with a sharp breath. How dare he? How can he still hold such affection for her? Her thundering rage surges, overpowering her, and she storms away. He snatches her wrist before she can get far.
“Let me go!” She tries to wring herself from his grasp, but he grabs her other arm amidst her thrashing. Her eyes widen and she lets out a wailing scream as he pulls her towards him.
“Let me go! Let me go!” She cries, like a child, turning around to beat against his chest.
“I am not letting you go,” he says firmly. “I won’t ever let you go.”
She gasps, her fists clenching the starched cloth of his tweed vest. She stares at him with anguish and despair.
“Why don’t you hate me?! Why?” She sobs.
She fights against him as he pulls her closer to him, but it’s all but finished. As soon as her cheek touches his chest, she collapses against him in a pained cry. They fall to their knees on to the sandy beach and he clutches tight around her.
“Why are you doing this? Why can’t you let me go? Please… Ominis. I’ll only ruin you,” she pleads through her mournful sobs.
“You will do no such thing,” he whispers into her ear. “I know you. And you have only brought joy and warmth into my life. I won’t let you lose yourself.”
It breaks his heart to hear her so… broken. He has allowed her to rot in these horrible, vile thoughts for too long. It takes all of his strength not to cry with her, but he remains stoic and silent - allowing her to unleash the pent-up feelings she’s been keeping at bay. And once she finally calms, he speaks.
“Tell me. Tell me everything,” he urges, gripping her tighter. “I want to hear it from you, from your own mouth. Your own lips. Tell me what happened. Please, stop running from me, and let me in.”
She pulls away enough to look at him, grasping his hands tightly and placing them in her lap.
“I promise. I am not going anywhere,” he whispers when she stays silent. “But, I will if you don’t let me in.”
She swallows the last of her tears then takes a shaky breath. Staring at their joined hands gives her enough strength to speak.
“Before Ranrok destroyed the Repository,” she shivers as she recalls the events, “I made a promise to Professor Fig that I would try to keep the magic within, contained. But, after I fought R-Ranrok-,” her voice wavers and he squeezes her hands to urge her to continue.
“After I fought him, the power was overloaded. It was going to surge and destroy everything. And I was left with a choice: mend the Repository and hope that no others like Ranrok would seek its power, or…,” she takes a deep breath, “I could release it. Let the magic be used by all. Used for something good instead of  hiding it away in fear.”
She sighs, “So I made my choice. And I had to… absorb some of the power in order to stabilize it.”
Her gaze meets Ominis’, and she’s met with understanding. Not loathing, nor disappointment. She shakes her head with a grimace.
“No, you don’t understand. I am just like Isidora! And it’s only a matter of time before that same power consumes me, as it did her,” she says, her voice filled with desperation.
Ominis frowns for a moment then shakes his head with conviction.
“You are nothing like Isidora.”
She’s about to argue, but his pale gray eyes seem to stare right into her, silencing her. He holds both of her hands firmly and leans in close, his expression serious.
“You have been focusing only on the harm you could potentially do, that you’ve completely ignored all the good you have done. You have done great things with your abilities. You’ve saved people, countless lives, and there is more yet to come. You are good. You are kind.”
“But, so was she,” she whispers.
“That may be. But, there’s something else which sets you two apart. She was alone,” he squeezes her hands with a soft, warm smile. “And you are not. You have so many people who love and care about you. I love and care about you. You are not alone in this. And I will not let you be consumed by this power.”
She lets out a soft gasp, “I can’t burden you with such a thing, Ominis.”
He chuckles gently and cups her cheek, “This is no burden, my love. You are far stronger than you think you are. And if you ever stumble, or fall - I will be right there to lift you up. And before you object, I already know you would do the same for me. So, why wouldn’t I do the same for you?”
She wants to argue with him, but her words fail to form. Looking into his earnest expression she wonders why she ever assumed the worst.
“Y-You’re too good to me,” she finally says.
His brows furrow and he shakes his head, “No, I haven’t been good to you, my love. I broke your trust in me. I was terrified of losing you, and I-,”
“Stop,” she places her finger over his lips. “Do you promise never to do it again? Do you swear to not break your word to me?”
He nods, gripping her hand tightly, “I promise.”
“And I promise to never put you in a position like that again. I won’t keep things from you, and I won’t ever doubt your devotion again,” she replies.
She closes her eyes as a great weight seems to fall off her shoulders. Her arms wrap around his neck and he’s quick to embrace her. A warmth blooms in her chest at how good it feels to be in his arms once more. He sighs, feeling this lightness within her. Then he crashes his lips against hers in a passionate, heated kiss.
She realizes how much of a distance had formed between them, and the intensity of their kiss brought a crashing wave of relief and longing. Her fingers tangle in his hair to keep him just where he is and she grips onto his shoulder for balance.
“I’ve missed you,” he whispers against her lips, continuing their passionate kissing. Tears mingle with the salt of the sea on their lips. Lost in the feeling of her, he invigorates her senses, and the electric connection of their bond is at a crescendo. It ignites his skin and burns away the last of the cold he’s felt from having to be withdrawn from her presence.
Lowering her onto the sand, he finally breaks the kiss with a sigh. He gently strokes her cheek, tucking aside her wind-blown hair behind her ear. She stares up at him in awe, taking in his disheveled appearance and heated face. The darkness which loomed in his eyes earlier is all but vanquished with an adoring brightness. The smile on his lips and the devotion in his gaze, ignites a fire within her. She reaches up and traces over his features, as if discovering him anew.
His eyes soften at her gentle hand, and as she stares into his swirling mists, she’s quickly falling in love with him all over again. With a light touch, she traces the constellation of moles on his cheek, each one a unique mark of his beauty. Her fingers dance over his skin, tracing the edges and curves of each mole with a tenderness he’s only ever experienced with her. As she leans in closer, she breathes in the scent of his skin, cherishing the warmth and closeness of the moment.
Their lips meet once more, tender and full of love, making him whimper at the sweetness of it. When they part, they sigh and he kisses her cheek then he trails his lips down to her jaw, working towards her neck. Soft, loving kisses fill her neck, and he nestles himself against her chest.
Listening to the strums of her heart and the rise and fall of her chest, he finds peace. She wraps her arms around him, holding him close to her. The weight of his body on hers brings her to a state of utter bliss. She strokes his hair and he nuzzles into her neck with a sigh. He can’t imagine being anywhere else. The ocean waves are calm as they break to shore, and the sounds of beasts as they play makes him smile. His hand remains on her cheek, stroking her fondly. He savors the feeling of her smile under his fingertips and the softness of her skin.
“I love you, Ominis,” she whispers as she kisses his forehead. “And, I won’t ever shut you out like that again. I am so much stronger when you’re by my side than I ever am alone.”
Ominis shivers at the power and sincerity in her words, releasing a breath as he fully melts into her.
“And I won’t ever betray your trust again. I will always be by your side. I love you. Fiercely. And I won’t let anything try to take us apart.”
She kisses his forehead and his hairline, wearing a warm smile as she whispers,
“So, you’re saying I’m stuck with you?”
He laughs into her neck and nods, “You are. As I’m stuck with you.”
“What a pity,” she giggles.
“Indeed. A tragedy, really. But, I’m sure we’ll find a way to manage,” he teases, kissing her neck.
She’s aware of her beasts coming over. They laugh as one of the Puffskeins works its way between them with a happy chirp, while more swarm over him. He’s covered in fluffy Puffskeins and she can’t stop giggling at the sight.
“I think they like you.”
“At least they’re soft,” he grins as he pets one.
They both start to drift off to sleep in a pile of Puffskeins - the exhaustion of the past few days, and weeks, having finally caught up to them. She hears his faint mumblings of his adoration and love for her, his voice and warm touch soothing her into a peaceful slumber for the first time in days.

AN: probs shouldn't have added the Puffskeins at the end because of that one image going around, but i do what i want. DUDES thank god for ChatGPT and Forefront for letting me just brainstorm with the stupid AI. Forefront came up with the idea of talking to friends before Ominis and MC talked, and i was like... shiiit you on to something. and i liked the idea of Natty being rather blunt and like 'yo GIRL' and even Sebastian being a bit on the 'DUDE' side.
But yeah this chapter... i really wanted to get right because i wanted them to make up in a meaningful way. Instead of just kissing and being like 'love ya babe' like i really wanted to at times LOL.
Anyways, let me know what y'all think <3 we're nearing the end dudes. i got like one more fic for this then some letters then... yeah. on to 7th year!
