WIP Wednesday

Thank you for the tags @adejareve and @sorrygoldfish, and also, coincidentally, fuck you both for conspiring to make this Varric-successfully-talks-Solas-down AU a thought I couldn't escape from. Softly tagging @rookamell @skogrr and @rosieofcorona!

This AU is going to take like.... truly an unimaginable amount of research and careful plotting on my part, and I'm not going to be able to start posting it until I have the ending at least reasonably certain in my head if not outright done, but deeply unfortunately I have a Lot of thoughts about this worldstate already.

Only the prologue will be in Varric's POV. He really has the best voice and I'm already missing this narration.

Just thought you might like to be informed. That sounded nice. One day. Here and now, at the top of the stairs, Solas presented a broadly armored back as he conducted his ritual to a chorus of howling winds and groaning earth. Just a humble apostate, he'd called himself, and more fool they that a mummer's hunch and slumped shoulders under homespun had worked. Just a humble apostate, wielding the crackling ruin of poor Snowdrop's hand against a rift like it was simply logic. Just a humble apostate. A story so thin it shouldn't have held water for one blessed minute, but which had, in fact, carried him through most of two years. Varric felt a professional respect, honestly, alongside the anger. Chuckles, of all people. Hand to his heart, a part of him just wanted to buy the guy a pint for pulling it off.

I’m really curious what are y’all’s fanfiction and fiction squicks?

I know the word has fallen from super-popular use but I think we need to revitalize it as a term (for a deep-seated distaste or turn-off from certain tropes, writing forms, character types, etc.) What makes you put down a book or close a tab so fast?
