Exclusionists are out there really thinking people take resources they don’t need

They think aces don’t get kicked out of their homes but they’re worried about homeless aces taking up lgbt+ shelters (how did they become homeless then…?)

They think aces don’t face enough discrimination to drive them to suicide so they kick up a fuss when the Trevor Project offers their services to aces (if that were true then no ace would call in so who cares)

They think aces don’t need any of the resources offered by lgbt+ organizations but they’re so worried that aces will take those resources they supposedly don’t need, all without ever being able to answer the question of why anyone would take those resources if they don’t need them

But since aces do use these resources… maybe that’s because they need them. And maybe that’s because asexuality isn’t compatible with heteronormativity, which results in discrimination against aces by the hands of straight people.

Which means sitting around on Tumblr doing your damn hardest to make aces feel unsafe in the community isn’t actually activism and you’re contributing to the hateful shit aces are already facing

I'm a rape survivor. Why do you people think the most traumatic thing that ever happened to me is erotic? Do you think it's ok because a handful of survivors feel that way, so now I and the rest have to spend our lives knowing that what happened to us is a turn-on for people like you? This is basically misery tourism lite, where people are masturbating to my trauma. Thanks for validating my rapist.

1. the world doesn’t revolve around you and your trauma. this is harsh, but it’s the truth. the vast majority of people who have rape fantasies do not know you, and aren’t thinking of you, or your rapist. it has fuckall to do with you. nobody is masturbating to your trauma because most people don’t know you. hell, I don’t know you. it’s not about you. it’s about the people having those fantasies. 

2. fantasies are a way of sublimating traumatic incidents into things we can deal with. It’s one of the ways we deal with trauma. some people are triggered and repulsed by anything that reminds them of their trauma, and other people want to rewrite the traumatic incident until they have gained power over it. both are equally valid ways of dealing with trauma, and neither of them is better than the other. different things work for different people. maybe only one of those works for you; that doesn’t give you the right to talk over people with experiences of recovery different to yours.

3. nobody is forcing you to have such fantasies (I hope). I want you to be healthy, and to have an environment that allows you to curate your experiences so that you never have to see things that trigger you. but also? the creation of this space is your responsibility. it’s up to YOU to ask people to tag things, to use tumblr’s inbuilt tag filtering system, or install xkit. it’s up to you to curate what you see so that you are safe. I want you to be safe, but I cannot swaddle you in bubble wrap and nuke everything that makes you uncomfortable. things that make us uncomfortable will continue to exist despite what we want. I am so sorry. but it’s up to you to make the world as easy for yourself as possible. 

4. things that make us uncomfortable exist despite our best efforts. you know what makes me uncomfortable? food. especially meat, which I don’t eat. vegans also make me uncomfortable, because they’re wrong. religion triggers me. food is something I have to interact with very carefully, because it makes me hurt in ways I don’t know how to deal with. but both of those things are everywhere. I have to go to the temple sometimes. I definitely have to eat. it’s not the same, but it is comparable. I have food blacklisted on tumblr, and I am still trying to work up the courage to ask people I follow to tag their religious posts. I am trying. so should you, to the best of your ability. for your own sake.

i’m a CSA survivor. i was sexually abused by my cousin for years. he created child porn of me. luckily he got caught before he was able to spread it, but it still horrorfies me in a way i cannot explain. i’m sure other survivors can attest to this. i am a victim of sexual abuse. i will always have trauma. i will always have to block the edwin tag. i won’t ever be able to look at barbies again, because that is what he groomed me with.

when i got older fiction helped me cope. royed fanfic? fuck yeah. fucked up sexual shit? yes. stuff like hermione/ snape? sometimes, yes. fucked up sexual shit helped me realize just how bad my abuse was.

i’m getting off track. my point is that i know what abuse is like. i know what CSA victims go through. and fanficiton and shipping will never be anything even closely like that.

and honestly? i could care less if people who aren’t CSA survivors read fucked up shit. what fiction you consume does not dictate what you support IRL. if it did, 90% of the population would be pedophiles, murders, and rapists.
