super simple low-effort ao3 summary methods that are 1000% better and 1000% less annoying than just saying you suck at summaries:
copypaste the first few lines of the fic. u already wrote ‘em. let ‘em be their own damn hook
if ur feeling fancy & don’t mind showing ur hand a bit, copypaste the first few lines of the fic that u feel are esp. Important or Interesting - the ones where u first start getting into the real meat of things
state the main tropes! theyre probably already in ur tags - just say them again - maybe as a full sentence if ur feelin fancy. or with a joke if ur feelin Extra fancy
ask a question. pose a hypothetical. eg what happens if u take [character] and put them in [situation]?
make an equation. [character] + [thing] = [outcome]
just write like a one-sentence summary of what the fuck is going down. just one (1) sentence. doesnt matter if it doesn’t cover every important aspect. or if it sounds bland. any summary sentence is gonna be miles better than “idk i suck at summaries”
just…explain the fic like u would to a friend? it doesnt have to be a polished back of the book blurb. it can just be “[pairing] coffee shop au, but like, still with murder, and also i made everyone trans. enjoy”
just stick a meme in there
honestly who cares
just put literally anything but a self deprecating comment in there & ur golden

the missed parallel of eddie helping buck find a new apartment and sabotaging his showings remains so dear to me, even if it's apparently not dear to the show
eddie making up some sad attempt at an excuse about how buck can't be trusted to pick a nice new apartment, how he's actually never picked a place on his own before, how buck needs his help etc.
and then during the showings eddie keeps throwing buck under the bus like yeah have you seen his clothes no wonder his credit score is horrendous // he keeps acquiring pets and bringing them home without telling his landlords, heart of gold this guy // he practiced some basketball in his old place once and broke a window, funny man, isn't he?
and buck just snaps because eddie keeps sabotaging him and it's selfish because buck needs a new place okay he can't keep living in eddie's and chris' space, not when he's so in love with eddie and can't stand to be so close to eddie without ever being allowed to have him (which... he doesn't tell eddie about that last part but he snaps at him nonetheless)
and eddie feels bad, he truly does, but his plan is coming together too nicely to really dwell on it. he convices buck to come to one last showing with him and promises to behave nicely. buck agrees and eddie drives them... to his house? to 4995 south bedford street. and eddie goes it's me, i'm your landlord and buck is ??? because what even is happening here?
cue eddie's little love confession and asking buck to stay, forever, in his arms, in his bed, in his home, in his life, in his family, and most importantly in his heart
and you best believe buck replies with you really did this for me and eddie just answers i‘d do just about anything for you but this is also for me, you‘re my juice

j'adore le franglish content le code switching c'est tellement fun je sautille from a language to another like a gazelle et toi aussi tant que tu voudras :)
OUAIS baby we are so fucking back. franglais est parfait parce que americans get mad AND it sends evil psychic vibes à l’académie française. The phrase “qu’est-ce qu’y’all doing aujourd’hui” came out of my mouth this evening and i think that might be the pinnacle of human language. i love being annoying

you killed the second chance at happiness of a horrifically traumatized woman that fought so hard for both of their lives (Athena)
you killed the pseudo father of a man that everyone leaves and who can't rely on his family despite his parents being alive (Buck)
you killed the best friend of a man who's going to blame himself for the rest of his life every time he thinks of him (Chim)
you killed a step dad of a girl that recognized him as her second dad that saved her and her mom's life multiple times (May)
you killed a support system of a deeply repressed man that could and always did turn to him for advice and help (Eddie)
you killed a beloved superior and friend for a woman that finally got all the recognition she deserved working under him (Hen)
and in an of itself you killed the actively suicidal character that even tho he took all the "right" steps to an actual happy ending he always wanted and made him the ultimate (unnecessary) sacrifice for everyone else.

my place, my peace
buddie roommates era, 8.3k words, getting together
what happens when Buck becomes TikTok famous, people assume that Eddie is dead, then that they are married and eventually help them get together— or also the TikTok shenanigans fic
“Oh— I just— never mind, so… I guess people like me?” Buck cheekily says, but his cheeks are slightly flushed and his tone is shy. He’s sitting on the edge of the bed and running a hand through his hair and— how could anyone not like you? Eddie wonders. How could anyone not love you? He wants to ask. (Texas is that good when it comes to self-discovery and revelations, apparently) “Tell me about it then,” is what he says though, encouraging his friend, basking in the warmth that Buck’s voice carries. “Well, they— uh, they found out that I’m a firefighter ‘cause I was at the station, uniform on and all, and some people started asking questions—” Eddie smiles fondly and cuts him off without thinking. “And you love talking about it,” he usefully finishes the thought.

i love 9-1-1 on abc the show that ended after s08e09 when buck gave up his loft for eddie but eddie decided last minute off cam to bring chris back instead of moving and then they all lived happily ever after together at south bedford street

To me the most fun part about fix-its is placing dominoes.
Tragedies often consist of escalating series of actions and circumstances which, in isolation, were not clearly leading to the tragic end but form a chain of cause-and-effect directly towards it in hindsight. In equal but opposite fashion, I love starting with small inoccuous changes to canon that in themselves do not obviously fix everything but start a new chain that leads to a better ending.
It's kind of impossible for fix-its to feel fully natural– the reader by definition knows what the original ending was and that this ending will be happier because the writer wants it to be– but it is possible for them to not feel contrived. A big deus-ex-machina, or a character breaking with their pre-established tragic flaws to suddenly make all the "correct" decisions almost always feels unsatisfying to me.
But a few carefully placed small domino pieces slowly knocking over bigger and bigger tiles until the entire story has radically changed? That's a lot more fun.
It recquires the author to both correctly identify the original chain of cause-and-effect and understand the characters well enough to know how they'd react to different circumstances. Because if the story feels like it's fixing the wrong problem or the characters don't act like themselves the magic is lost. But when it works? When it clicks and the reader sees the domino chain laid out in front of them? It's beautiful.

eddie’s stretched out on the couch, book in hand, when buck comes in from the kitchen and groans. loud and attention-seeking and annoying.
eddie looks up. “can i help you?”
the sleepy withering glare eddie receives in response gives him cuteness aggression. “i was going to lie down on the couch, but now i can’t because you are.”
biting down on a smile, eddie gestures vaguely at the space in front of him. “yes, you can, buck. there’s plenty of room.” sure, their legs will get tangled, but eddie’s sitting up against the arm, so buck can definitely fit on the other end.
buck’s eyes brighten. “really? you—you sure?”
“yes?” eddie’s not sure what’s unclear here. or why buck’s cheeks are pink all of a sudden.
buck just hums, pleased, and shuffles over to the couch. he turns, maybe to say something? no, he’s—oh. he plants a knee between eddie’s legs and lies down on top of him, fully, like a blanket. head resting on eddie’s chest, arms wrapped loosely around eddie’s sides, contented sigh whispering across eddie’s neck.
this—was not what eddie meant.
but he waits until buck settles against him, and he can’t quite find it in himself to care.
“better?” eddie asks softly.
he feels buck’s mumbled response against his chest more than he hears it, but it seems positive.
eddie sighs. he’s still holding his book, dangling off the side of the couch, his thumb marking the page. it’s easy to let it fall the rest of the way to the floor. easy to wrap his arms around buck’s broad back, one hand buried in his curls. easy to close his eyes and drift.
yes, it’s easy. eddie might just stay here forever.
“forever, buck, if you’ll have me,” he whispers. sleep takes him before he can feel buck’s answer.

Imagine a buddie fic that follows the b99 audio “do you wanna know how I actually hurt my wrist? I was hula hooping.” “Why are you telling me this?” “Because no one will ever beleive you” and the plot is buddie got together and decide to keep it from the team for a bit but Buck thinks it would be HILARIOUS to tell only Ravi because nobody at the station would believe him. The whole thing is just Ravi fighting for his life while Buck and Eddie giggle in a corner

My sister’s friend teaches yoga, and she was telling me about how she teaches a weekly class at a local fire station — for the firefighters. Highlights of this conversation:
firstly, she has had to make some adjustments to poses to accommodate their tree-trunk thighs.
second and I think even funnier, she was initially asked to do a fairly strenuous class for them but they already work out so much and do so much high-impact exercise that she has been gradually making her class a little bit more chill every week. Now the firefighters are like “wow, I feel so relaxed!” at the end of her class.
anyway I feel like fans of the hot firefighter show could probably make good use of this information. send that bisexual firefighter to yoga class or something.
