Media Conventions: A contract between producers and consumers
Code is considered as a system of signs that can create meaning if it were decoded.
It is is grouped in the following:
technical codes - all to do with the way a text is technically constructed - camera angles, framing, typography etc.
verbal codes - everything to do with language -either written or spoken
symbolic codes - codes that can be decoded on a mainly connotational level - all the things which draw upon our experience and understanding of other media texts, our cultural frame of reference.
codes can create feelings to the audience through effects and techniques, for example rain in a film and a woman looking upset can make the audience feel bad for the woman and be emotional.
Codes mostly focus on letting the audience understand the media, codes make it easier for people to understand information about a certain media and helps them create an idea.
Convention - is what you expect to see in a genre. Like in horror movies, people are expectant on Jumpscares, blood shedding gore and terrifying looking ghosts, monsters are murderers.
Media codes and conventions are seperated to 3 groups:
- Technical (e.g camera angles, movements & shots), - Symbolic (e.g clothing, colours) - Written and audio (music etc).
Convention is seen to be focusing on the content of the genres like Sci-Fi, Romance, Documentaries that people expect when watching.
Both codes and convention are needed in the media, you cannot do one without the other because it will help people to understand the form of the media being made.

Symbol Vs. Ritual
Symbols are known to be signs, it can be seen visual, sounds, etc. And it is mostly used as a guide by people. Symbols are the basis of all human understanding and serve as vehicles of conception for all human knowledge.
According to Joseph Campbell - "A symbol is an energy evoking and directing agent."
While Ritual is more of a sequence or pattern, a series of actions or type of behavior regularly and invariably followed by someone.
If involving media in the two, Symbol in the media can serve as the agent, or the medium in the media while Ritual is the common habit of using media regularly.

Form and Content are Inseperable
I learned that Form and Content are inseperable due to the fact they are considered distinct aspects of a work of art in art critism. But in media, Content is delivered through many things, CD's, Books, Television, etc. Content is the information gotten from the medium itself, while Form is the shape of the content. For example, The Book by Antoine de Saint-Euxpery, "The Little Prince" the content or story of the book is the content while the book itself is the form. You cannot show a book without content. You cannot show the story without it's form. That's why form and content are considered inseperable.

September 15
This one is technically not yet history, because at the time of posting, the little craft has about half an hour left to go. That said, let’s proceed.
In 2017, NASA’s Cassini space probe ended its twenty-year mission at Saturn. After a nearly-seven-year-long journey there, it orbited the ringed planet for 13 years and just over two months, gathering copious amounts of information about the planet, said rings, and many of its moons. It landed an ESA probe called Huygens on Titan, the first-ever soft landing in the outer Solar System. It discovered lakes, seas, and rivers of methane on Titan, geysers of water erupting from Enceladus (and passed within 50 miles of that moon’s surface), and found gigantic, raging hurricanes at both of Saturn’s poles.
And the images it returned are beautiful enough to make you weep.
On this day in 2017, with the fuel for Cassini’s directional thrusters running low, the probe was de-orbited into the Saturnian atmosphere to prevent any possibility of any contamination of possible biotic environments on Titan or Enceladus. The remaining thruster fuel was used to keep the radio dish pointed towards Earth so the probe could transmit information about the upper atmosphere of Saturn while it was burning up due to atmospheric friction.
This is us at our best. We spent no small amount of money on a nuclear-powered robot, launched it into space, sent it a billion miles away, and worked with it for two decades just to learn about another planet. And when the repeatedly-extended missions were through, we made the little craft sacrifice itself like a samurai, performing its duty as long as it could while it became a shooting star in the Saturnian sky.

Look at this gorgeousness

A gigantic motherfucking storm in Saturn’s northern hemisphere

This image is from the surface of a moon of a planet at least 746 million miles away. Sweet lord

Mimas

Vertical structures in the rings. Holy shit

Little Daphnis making gravitational ripples in the rings

That’s here. That’s home. That’s all of us that ever lived.
