Targeted at those people who think that an "I love you, you know" on a deathbed, after THREE years, is somehow a stronger love confession than a "he's your first love, I intend to be your last, however long it takes" at a graduation party, after one year.

I don't understand why some people think that Klaus never confessed his love to Caroline or wasn't all the way in love with her?

He literally said this to her — "He is your first love, I intend to be your last. However long it takes."

Why would he say that to her if he wasn't already in love with her. He basically told her that his love was here to stay, ever lasting, and will wait for her to show up at his doorstep, ready for his love to be her last.

It definitely doesn't mean he will wait for her so that both of them can fall in love all the way in.

Am I missing something? This has always been my understanding of the whole scene and quote. He told her and the audience that he is, in fact, in love with her but will wait, however long it takes.

Klaroline Fic: The Wolf IV [6/13]

Summary: Five years after the downfall of the Mikaelson family, Caroline returns to New Orleans to fulfill the promise she made to Marcel: one day, she would be back for the man he has been keeping prisoner in the bowels of the old compound, and she would not be leaving without him. For all its dazzle and charm, the French Quarter makes for a wretched buffet at dawn. The revelers stumbling through the streets are little more than walking chemical cocktails, steeped in cheap liquor, fluorescent shots, and whatever questionable highs were handed to them between bars. Their blood reeks of half-remembered mistakes and tastes even worse. It's vile.

Elijah would much rather spare himself the bitter aftertaste, but abstinence is a luxury he can't afford - not if he is to endure the moral disdain that Vincent Griffith radiates before breakfast. He'll need strength, even if it comes at the cost of his palate and a little of his dignity.

Desperate times call for lesser evils. This morning, that means a sordid combination of hurricanes and ashtrays.

The night before, over bourbon salvaged from the ruins of their once formidable cellar, Elijah and Niklaus had devised a plan - bold enough, reckless enough, and, in true Mikaelson fashion, extravagant enough, that if it succeeds, they might finally be able to leave New Orleans behind. Not in retreat as they did last time, but unburdened by unfinished businesses, with no loose ends or ancient spirits snapping at their heels.

The downside is that their elegant solution hinges on one decidedly inelegant necessity: Vincent's cooperation. But they are in no position to be particular about their allies. Beggars, as it were, can't afford to be choosers.

As expected, the look of sheer dismay on Vincent's face when Elijah raps on his window is almost touching.

"What do you want?" the man barks, all but ready to draw the curtains on his face.

"It's early, Vincent. Can't we at least pretend to be civilized?"

"How does Marcel feel about being civil? I'd ask him, but I can't find him anywhere."

"Shocking," Elijah deadpans, shaking his head with mock disappointment. "Where is that young man's sense of courtesy? Going on a holiday in the middle of a crisis..."

Vincent tilts his head, dark eyes sharp as a blade. If looks could kill, Elijah would be a pile of smoldering ash. He meets the open hostility with a pleasant smile, which only makes the muscle in Vincent’s jaw twitch harder.
