Just finished a presenting for wonderful Baptist Health South Florida care workers. We did concentric circles just in time for dot day (September 15) and drew our favorite cup of hot beverage in our favorite mug ☕️ More importantly we gave a pause for wellness by pouring into ourselves. We participated in a little inner child play via drawing and coloring while also learning some new things along the way. I been offline for a bit; mainly because of COVID but also just feeling stuck and sad about a few things. I kinda missed my birthday and have yet to thank all of you who reached out. Trust that it meant a lot to hear from you. The world can be so heavy. Many friends have moved away from Miami (and I wish I could do the same), basic daily necessities are more expensive, and health, which is the ultimate wealth, is always a concern for my family members. It can be so overwhelming and tiring, right? What do you do about it? I have to remember to take care of myself and do things that bring me joy. Like I haven’t painted in a couple months. So sad. I did finally make it for a facial from gift certificate given to me for last year’s birthday…. It. Was. Amazing! And made me question why I don’t do it more often. Why don’t I make taking care of my well being and my peace a priority? I need help with this. I need a change of pace. But in the end I need to remember to remain calm, And that everything will be okay. Eventually. I am finally feeling better, and it’s summer time. So, everything for a couple months, is going to be lighter. But still wondering… is anyone else is going through it? Sadness? Staleness? Solitude? Maybe we can help each other get out of it together or at the least make art together? As we take the time to celebrate love… for those near, and those afar, Those who are still here in the physical form, and those whose spirit lives on. I wanted to share this art of love because when I encounter such love I can’t helped but be shooked by it. It’s unworldly and inspirational. I was honored when asked to paint this portrait of a dear late husband. The pain in the loss of a loved one, especially the love of your life, is life shattering. It was always my hope that it bring her some solace. Nothing can bring our loved ones phyisically back but the actions we take to remember them can bring us comfort. I’m humbled that she loves and wears her painting of him everyday. Today, I want to wish those who are lonely, depressed, or in grief a day of self gratitude and love. Want a mini date with yourself using art as a vehicle? Take 5 seconds and scribble. Yeah, scribble…. uncontrollably with your eyes closed. Scribble softly. Scribble sensually. Get silly. Get angry. Vary the speed, cover that page. Having trouble? Use your non dominant hand. Still having trouble letting loose? Use both your 🙌🏽 hands. Your mark making is yours alone, no right or wrong, just what comes out. It all looks similar but upon closer creative examination images may start to emerge. Your scribbling (which how we all started drawing) is your energy on paper. Let it out and see what comes to the surface. Close your eyes, Scribble for 5 seconds. Then, open your eyes and examine what come out. Can you bring anything out? What do you see? Turned Upside? Add lines, shapes and color for the next 5 mins.
